BEWARE AND DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU VALUE YOUR HAIR!!! This is a really hard review to write and I don't like doing it but today's appointment was awful. Left in tears and they couldn't care less. Because I don't want to hurt anyone's livelihood but I also have to be transparent. And had I known I would have never gone!!! I went for a cut and color. And the cut was shorter than I wanted but I can temper that with it will grow back but where it went MASSIVELY wrong was the color. I will put a picture the inspiration vs what I got. When I expressed that I was unhappy with the results I was made to feel bad. *They did accommodate and try to tone it down* but then said I would have to leave with wet hair. The problem was it was waaaaaay too light and I felt like they wanted me to leave before it dried so it looked darker. They offered to blow dry the front part but half blown out hair... no thanks...I was clearly upset but was nothing but kind during this. I paid and left without saying anything more. I walked out after a VERY expensive appointment with wet unstyled hair that is too short, the wrong color and hair that I really dislike. Not to mention it felt like straw and very damaged.. I supposed they did what they could after the fact but had they listened to my request it wouldn't have required fixing. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

'm writing this review super early this morning because my lower back is in extreme pain after my blow out session at this salon at 1pm. First of all I've been leaving 4 or 5 star reviews for most of the hair salons I've visited this year because I've had great service; but yesterday I was extremely underwhelmed. I came in at 11:45 to inquire if there were any available stylists to blow my hair out with some body not a flat iron treatment but a blowout. The receptionist said if I return at 1 or 1:15 I could be shampooed and have a blow out but the charge is $70. She looked at me sort of concerned that I wouldn't be able to afford the $70. I assured her yes I'd be happy with price and I'd return promptly at 1pm. I arrived later just I'd promised and she took all my information, my credit card and email address which incidentally she ended up getting wrong less than 40 minutes later when I checked out of here and did not receive a receipt. Let's get to the experience itself. I was rushed to get my coat off, sent to a chair and then introduced to Tara. She asked me to take a seat and asked me what was being done so she then took me to the basin to shampoo me and prep me. These salon chairs were really bad and I ended up getting water down my back even though I had a cape on. I really didn't feel comfortable and Tara really rushed the scalp massage so I couldn't relax. I was brought to her station and honestly this tiny salon is very cramped and when Tara washed my hair she bumped into the other guy who was trying to wash his client too. Tara had the receptionist assist her and they both round brushed my hair but they used a twisting technique spinning my fine, fragile hair repeatedly. Everything here felt rushed from start to finish and I was in and out in 40 minutes. I asked Tara about this technique and she explained the other stylist is in training and that's why two people are working on my hair. I noted one side of my hair had more body and wave than the other because two people were using the round brush differently. I also noticed hair coming out of my head and onto their brushes because they were in such a hurry to complete the job. I wasn't relaxed the entire time I was there and I was glad to just check out and leave. The tipping part was awkward too. Instead of being offered a venmo so I could tip in private I was shown a separate square option and Tara showed me 3 separate tip options- 15% tip 20% and 30% tip. Usually 20% tips are appropriate after a blowout so I left $15 which is actually more than 20% because the service itself was 70. This is the only salon I've visited that spent so little time with me. It was rushed, unrelenting and awkward from start to finish. The young lady at the register sent my receipt to an incorrect email address initially so that took about 5 minutes to adjust so I could get a copy of my bill. The salon itself is tiny and the chairs were so uncomfortable I haven't had a good sleep which is why I'm even bothering to write this review. I really didn't want two stylists working on my hair. You know the expression too many cooks spoil the broth? The energy was frenetic...not the vibe I was seeking. I wanted to feel pampered this afternoon; instead I felt rushed and unappreciated. I'm writing this review hoping that the women who worked with me yesterday won't make other future guests feel so rushed. I really didn't enjoy two stylists working on me especially since my purpose was to simply treat myself to a bit of self pampering. I attended a great event here at Base and loved my experience. While Base wasn't hosting (it was hosted privately), the location of the event was here. Base stylists were on hand to style guests' hair while the drinks were flowing. Jennifer was my stylist. She used a styling tool on my hair that curls and blow dries simultaneously. She was extremely informative about my problematic hair. -The best ways to style it, the products that would work best, and how to take care of it to keep my hair healthiest. The salon is small, but really cute. Located in the West Loop on N Morgan and W Randolph, it was just far enough away from the west loop social scene to have decent street parking options. They use good products and every staff member I dealt with was great. After buying the styling tool and a dry shampoo, I received a boatload of free stuff. I made an appointment and then had a work conflict, so I used the online platform to move my appointment to avoid fee. Their online system didn't work properly and didn't alert me, so I was charged $340 for a no show (& called repeatedly during the executive business meeting). I explained the situation and they ignored me, I showed the email I got to access my account for the change, and they ignored me. Well before tip I paid $350 for a full highlight, root shadow and color add on.. I have never HATED my hair more. This place was close to my apartment so I opted to pay a bit more for convenience. The last time I got my hair done (same full highlight) it was at the Aveda Institute in Lincoln Park and I paid $60 and I wish I just would've went back there. Feeling foolish for lying that much but lesion learned. When I moved to Chicago I needed to find a new hair salon. Base Salon was local and used high quality Kérastase products so I decided to give it a try.... 3 visits later I'm so happy I found this place and stylist Tara! I like to keep my hair looking natural so don't usually experiment with too many colors. Each visit, Tara has been so helpful providing color suggestions and tips for what would look best and in-season. I've been so happy with my visits here and highly recommend Tara - especially if you're newer to color and want someone you can trust! To adjust my last review- I originally went to Base Salon to follow my aesthetician Adriana; she is the most incredible aesthetician I've ever met I have been seeing her for the last 6 years. She has since left Base Salon to go to Swerve Salon (check her out you won't be disappointed!!) I went to a stylist at Base because I was going there consistently to get my brows done- the original "hair stylist" I went to is still there unfortunately even though she fried my hair off and gave me the worst Brazilian blowout I've ever gotten. To fix Danielles mistake the OWNER introduced me to Jennifer who was a senior stylist at the time at Base. Thankfully, Jen was able to fix my hair and I have now been consistently seeing her for 4+ years. The only positive things I have to say about Base Salon is that they introduced me to my tried and true "beauty" team. Jen has *safely* taken my hair from black to brown to black to blonde and back to brown. Whenever I need my bikini area waxed, I immediately book an appointment with Juanie! She's so personable and inviting. She makes you feel welcome and comfortable throughout the wax. I've tried going closer places but have yet to find anyone as capable and consistent as she is. I typically visit her for a full Brazilian, but decided to go all in and get my brows waxed & trimmed as well. I don't regret it. AMAZING!!! Danielle was the best! Most perfect hair cut I have ever had. She did better then i was able to ask for. For the first time in forever I was able to style my hair after a cut and have it turn out with out hours of extra work. The products they use made my hair so soft. And i got my first blow out ever, I never realized how great my hair would look. She was also super sweet and personable. I hadn't cut or trimmed my hair in ten years and I really didn't want to because I hate having short hair and getting my hair cut. My hair was looking really damaged though, and I knew I needed a trim. I went to Danielle after she was recommended to me by my friend who recently cut off a lot of her split ends in her hair and felt great about how she did her hair. I agree, Danielle helped me feel so comfortable about cutting my hair and she only cut off what was really necessary! First of all, what a cute salon. The customer service was fantastic, and the atmosphere was super welcoming as soon as I walked in. Danielle brought my blonde back to life and somehow made it feel healthier even though we were going brighter. She also put me onto K18's hair mask, and even though I've only used it for a few weeks, the difference is already insane. Krysta is actually a genius when it come to hair. I've been so many places and I finally booked with Base Salon because it was close to my apartment. Truly cannot believe the customer service I received this past week from Base Salon. I'm a super understanding person and I get that a lot of things are delayed now, but when you trust a business, give them an insanely overpriced amount of money and end up having nothing but a headache to show for it - I think my frustration is valid. I had ordered extremely pricey extensions for a business event, never having them before and wanting to get a little boost of confidence. I was told said extensions would arrive in two weeks. Today I got the phone call (3 weeks later) that the hair would be arriving late. My appointment to get them done was supposed to be tomorrow at 9 am. So essentially I was told I'm SOL hours before I was going to get them done. The receptionist told me I have two options at that point - either come in and get something done that isn't what I want at all, but would give me "volume," or get a refund. Despite being upset they were not going to arrive before the event, I was still going to get them done because I have a busy August and again, was looking forward to having them for the first time! But I wasn't even given the option to still come in and get them done. I was still going to pay for them (literally $2,000) regardless, but was dismissed. Please work on your customer service skills. There are many salons in Chicago and it is super competitive. I could have easily chosen a different place that would have got the job done....and at least be nice about it. read more

First off- I want to say Danielle is jot only an amazing stylist, but she genuinely cares about her clients. I had a negative experience with my previous stylist and was due for a move up on my tape-in extensions and did not want to go back so Danielle moved around her weekend schedule to get me in for a move up to hold me over until my real booking with her. Prior to my session, I sent her a ton of different blonde looks I liked and when I came in to see her - she managed to piece together all the goals I had with my hair to leave me with my dream hair! I got the works - a full balayage, haircut, hand tied extensions, and she finished me up with some curls before sending me out the door. Each step of the way she asked about every detail to make sure I got exactly what I wanted - the placement of my part, the coloring of my hair, the color & depth of the shadow on my roots, placement of extensions and how it would impact styling, how often I wanted to come in for maintenance, etc. I almost cried when she spun me around I was SO BLONDE and had more hair than I knew what to do with- I have never felt so confident from just hair. I am so happy I found Danielle and cant wait to keep seeing her! She is an exceptional stylist and pays attention to every last detail to make sure your goals are met and you walk out of the salon loving your new look! HIGHLY recommend!! read more

I'm a longtime client at Base salon. I went in yesterday for my routine color and cut and decided spontaneously to add on extensions. The entire team jumped into action to make it happen. They juggled schedules, appointments, ensured they had the right color and texture of extensions for me, and had me out the door with a beautiful head of hair in no time. Krysta is truly magic. I've been very lucky to have some amazing hair stylists in my life, people that I truly loved. But, while I'd love my hair in the chair, I'd go home and wash it...and be totally unable to recreate the style. Krysta always gives me a sustainable cut, shows me the process of styling my hair, and is never afraid to both try new things with me AND be honest about what's not going to work. I find it very important as a women to keep up with your body!!!! Inside and out! I come here to Juanita For Body wax, underarms, eyebrows and Full Brazilian wax. She is the only person I go to and trust. She has been taking care of me for 3 yrs. There is no one that has taken care of me like her! She takes her time to figure out your brow shape. She cleans the area, makes you feel comfortable as it is a private area. She has done a very clean job. If you have never done Brazilian I would totally recommend her. Juanita places a Hot towel and it's reviving at the end of the wax, which was what hooked me to keep coming. Thank you for always being patient with me when I come! I decided to post this because the reason I went to this salon was for the reviews. So many five stars, I figured it was foul-proof for myself, considering I hadn't been to a salon in 10 years and was looking for a quality place in the loop. I believe the reviews are so glowing because they push it on you from the moment you sit down. If you review, it's a discount on the products in the store and a chance to win something, I believe. How could I post a review before they even touch my hair... I wanted a long bob and a bronde balayage. My brunette hair hasn't been colored in many years, it was virtually virgin again (meaning I was back to my natural color). I also know it can be lifted much lighter than my color, because I was blonde many years ago. I made it clear that I did not want anything close to caramel, I wanted the color to be much ashier. We landed on the word "sandy" after I showed her reference pictures and I was excited. The cut was nice. I had no complaints. The color... is incredibly brassy. I wish I would have said something but my stylist was so incredibly lovely and I didn't know what to say; which is definitely my fault. The unfortunate part was I was quoted $315, I paid $505 before tip. I was in a rush out and just paid it knowing I would never come back. The employees seem incredibly sweet and kindhearted. The color was just not what we discussed, the asks for reviews, and the price change at the very end were all red flags for me. I will not return. read more
