Very nice staff, but that's where the pluses end. The seats are torn and dingy, many of them needed to be bussed. I'm not expecting fancy decor, but a few repairs and maintenance would go a long way. I ordered one fish taco and two chicken tacos. The fish was an unnatural color and shape. The chicken tacos came in store bought hard shells - yuck! And the morsels vaguely resembled poultry. Service- it was good, nothing too terrible, just a little misled. I asked what normally comes in the burritos and she said Pico de Gallo, guacamole, cheese and sour cream. So my sisters ordered chicken burritos and it only had cheese an chicken in it? So be aware of that. Quality- doesn't really taste authentic better than Taco Bell's tho just still tastes like another fast food version. Environment- clean & welcoming but also a tiny bit dull. The restaurant is large and clean and the staff was very friendly. My food could have been hotter temperature-wise but it was tasty. My fried had the burrito and loved it. The best carnitas nachos we have ever had! It was late and our first night in Newport. My husband was craving nachos and all the nearby pubs were closing down for the night. I'm having a hard time returning to Super Oscars, but with literally no other taco shops in Newport, and being from Cali...I kinda have no choice. This place is hit-or-miss. Their burritos can be great; The carne asada burrito with beans and rice tastes great and will fill you up for days, but when I ordered a chicken burrito, it was literally pieces of chicken and some grated cheddar wrapped in a tortilla. I tried the chili relleno and it was okay and I've had the green chili and was unimpressed. Another time I asked for a side of chips and guac and literally got a box of tortilla chips with guacamole spread on top. I now know that I must be explicit when I order. Super Oscars has become my go-to place for a quick, cheap meal. They make these burritos that are a foot long and probably weight a half pound. They're all meat and they're five bucks. My favorite is the carne asada but yesterday I tried the steak, egg and cheese breakfast burrito and it was awesome! Still mostly steak but just enough egg and cheese to make it taste like a steak filled chile relleno when eaten with the mild green sauce. Yummmmmmmmy! They're always incredibly friendly at the drive-through and pretty quick but not fast food quick because they actually have to MAKE your food. The meat has some bits of fat and gristle in it because you're actually getting meat, not some processed preformed meat product. This is the real deal. The sauces are good -- mild or spicy -- and they give you plenty. There's no reason to eat fast food with Super Oscars in town! read more

Stopped by tonight for a small snack of two tacos. Couldn't fully understand the squawk box and got hit with a $4.24 charge per taco. The tacos used to be $1.67 two years ago and these were half the size. For the price of two tacos here I could have had a two taco dinner at any other Mexican place in town. My wife and I were in the mood for tacos while staying in Newport. Unfortunately, our options in the area seemed kind of limited. We chose this place over the other nearby option, but weren't really that impressed. We both ordered the carne asada taco specials (two steak tacos, rice, and beans). For the price, I am used to getting three tacos back at home - but the tacos were filled nicely with extra tortillas. I wouldn't say the food was bad - I was just hoping it would be better. The rice was ok, but the tacos seemed to lack any real flavor. I also was disappointed in the fact that there were no public bathrooms (coming in from a long drive), and the place was a bit too fast-food style. We were hoping for a nice little sit-down restaurant where somebody would come take our order. Instead, this place has a menu behind the counter - you place your order and they call your order over a microphone when it is ready to pick up. If we are ever in the need for Mexican food while travelling through Newport again, I might consider giving them a second shot - just because there are so few options in the area. By simple I mean you're hungry enough to eat a burrito the size of your face but don't dont really feel like going to a fancy Mexican restaurant. If you want giant portions, yummy horchata, and a super casual environment (with cheap prices) this is the place to go! Those complaining about table service must not be familiar with these giant menu on the wall, order at the counter places. These as crosses between fast food and greasy spoons. My favorite mexican food place on the coast. I'm in love with their loco burrito, which is basically a california burrito with BACON. I order mine with extra cheese extra bacon and sour cream on the side, i know, picky. But I've been ordering it for well over 4 years, and still to this day I get attitude about it or the order comes out wrong /: often without the extra cheese and bacon that I paid for, which is hard to prove. Despite this I will continue to come because I love this burrito. I just hope that the customer service improves over time and that the orders are better communicated to the kitchen. read more

Another once great location, that is on the avoid list because of their incompetent employees. I had gone to this restaurant for over 14 years. I pulled in to order the same the exact order I've always ordered. Since it was a to go order, we didn't find out until we got home that they'd made us the wrong order. When I called them up, they insisted that I'd ordered something I don't eat and would never have ordered. She insisted that it was me who had placed the wrong order. Instead of simply remaking the order to what I asked and PAID for, she does nothing but blame the customer. Worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life. Imagine not eating fish and going to a restaurant. You order a steak and they bring you out.... FISH. I go there at least twice a week I travel in my car for work a lot it's really nice to stop buy in the morning to get a bacon burrito.
