Continuing my alphabet series onto the letter S, I realized I already reviewed the prior to 2018 location (another Peruvian chicken place, Sardi's in Laurel, which I reviewed in August 2023 & had given them 5-stars then, although more like 4-stars as customer service was a little more hit or less in last 2 years). So, now just moving on to 2018 without replacing the letter S prior to 2017. I used to live in Wheaton and had a couple of Peruvian chicken places within walking distance of me, but I honestly wasn't overly impressed with any of them, and would most often drive a mile up the road to Don Pollo in Glenmont (see my 5-star review of them written way back in June 2018, when I actually lived near there). I went to Super Chicken a few times. I thought the quality of the chicken was pretty good as were the sides, but it didn't quite hold up to Don Pollo & Sardi's. Customer service was cordial overall. One noteworthy time I ate there was on Monday, September 24, 2018 during the start of the worst week of 2018. I was laid off from my company that afternoon due to economic hardship. That afternoon I drove home distressed and decided on comfort food for dinner convenient from my home, which was Super Chicken, which was my favorite in Wheaton. Another time I went was in January 2018 with my girlfriend of that time. We both thought Super Chicken was good. Then, about a month later I took her to Don Pollo. She was like ugh, not Peruvian chicken again, as we had been to a couple of other places within the past 2 months. I assured her Don Pollo was superior to Super Chicken or others we went to, and she was like you were right, Leigh, Don Pollo is way better. However, the reason why Super Chicken is not getting 4-stars & only 3. One time probably in 2019, I ate in there, and they had some soccer game in Spanish blaring full volume on the TV. It was absolutely ridiculous they had the TV extremely loud like that. I tended to eat in there because I probably walked and didn't want my food to get cold by the time I walked home having to cross two major roads and/or may have been doing something else after that was walking distance. After that deafening TV, I don't think I returned. read more

I use to go to this spot alot However, I dont like being ingnored nor judged due to being black. I speak Spanish however I'm ignored here because they seem as if I can't shouldn't be idk?? They say oh that's cute you speak Spanish my response Mi padre es de República Dominicana, sabemos muy bien español. if you don't recognize a customer coming in more than 5 to 10 times out of the month then you don't deserve the customers money you are supposed to know and become familiar with your regular customers and this place gets a thumbs down. Their food is OK. whenever my family and I ask for dark meat only they are very angry and start shopping at the chicken in an aggressive manner because they have to waste or they feel like they are wasting their white meat well I don't want to choke on your dry meat. read more

I been eating this chicken for years the best one so far , today I bought 6 chickens and vaciase I had a large party , and some of my guest told me that the yucca was excellent thicc and crunchy the chicken is delicious the best yellow sauce is the best one ever . Super Chicken is almost the same as its competitor next door, El Pollo Rico. They both serve Peruvian Chicken and pretty much the same sides. The only main difference for me is that Super Chicken has way better yuca and El Pollo Rico has better chicken (a little bit more moist & more flavor). For $14, you get a whole chicken with 2 sides. I usually go with fries & fried yuca. There're usually 2 sauces that come with the chicken: the yellow & green sauce. The yellow sauce's more like a mayo whereas the green is the hot sauce. Overall, I do enjoy Super Chicken. Very good bang for your buck & chicken's pretty good! The only bad thing is the neighborhood, very shady especially at night. **3 1/2 stars** read more

Consistently excellent. I like their chicken, soups, desserts and especially the chicken tamales.

Pio Pio Superchicken was my consistent favorite. They don't treat you like much, the place is not real clean, the TV may be blasting, your car is parked a mile away cause there are no space, plus you pay half the chicken cost for a stupid drink. But you get a little of peace when you are chowing down on that delicious chicken (no crispy skin from sitting in that glass case too long), and the addictive Yuca fries that I swear is laced with cocaine. It's not impressive, but the combination of decent chicken with Yuca made it a place to go for me. Now I go to Sardi's as they have all the positive things superchicken has like good chicken, yuca fries and plantain (yes the stuff they charge you 2.75 extra at superchicken) and people are friendly, you get three sauces, the place is large and clean, you get free water if you don't want to get ripped off buying drinks...etc. Well, I'll keep eating at new places and update this review as I go along. read more

I went to this place over seven years ago when I used to live in MD. Loved it. You can smell the chicken charring above the coals from a mile away. So when I came back to visit last week, I had to stop by this place. Much has changed. For one, no line out the door. Next, the place looks renovated, and I don't see the grill out in front. And guess what? It's not the same owners. From what I hear, they moved not too far away. Onto the food... chicken was char grilled, skin tasted good, but the meat itself was pretty dry, definitely not free ranged, probably factory farm produced. I had the half chicken. Once I finished the dark meat I was wishing I had more of the sauces to dip the remaining white meat in. Guess I should of shelled out a little more. But the complaint wasn't about the chicken. It was decent. My problem were the sides. Not even on par with El Polo Loco or even KFC. But don't get me wrong, the peruvian chicken is decent, just not over the top like before. read more

Oh man. Oh man. OH MAN. Super Chicken is absolutely fantastic in every single way imaginable. It is classic Peruvian-style rotisserie chicken at it's absolute BEST. I can't even put into words how delightfully flavorful the chicken is. They must use some kind of secret charcoal when they're roasting these things. Their mayo sauce and green chili sauce are also perfect. Flavorful and spicy at the same time. I highly recommend this place over any other rotisserie in the DC area. read more

I would give it 10 stars if I could.... OMG... my mouth is watering just thinking about it. MMMMMMMMMMMMMM I can't begin to describe the incredible flavors of that enters your mouth, touches your tongue and melts your insides and warms your stomach all the way through. It is so delicious, your fingers will melt when you are licking the juices and spices off. You don't want to stop eating because you don't want it to end. I don't know what they put it in, but it is heavenly. The chili sauce, oh the sauce, I could eat the sauce from that little tiny cup they provide it in. I ask for at least 4-5 cups of it. Some might go to the Rico, but for Pollo... I come to Pio Pio Super Chicken. I stick to the rice and the yuca as my side dishes. Prices are reasonable, a full chicken is $14, the bigger portion you get, the larger amount of sides and sauce they'll throw in. Service is very much like a conveyor belt, but I guess it is the best way to handle the take-out lines and keep constant turn-around. I like their sauces, if you ask the person at the register when paying, they might give you an extra few too. Their green sauce has a wonderful kick to match the chicken, mayo sauce is on point as well. For drinks during the summer I will usually get horchata from Super Chicken, it's hella refreshing alongside the mouthwatering chicken. I prefer the quarter white meat with fried yuca and either beans or plantains depending on my mood. You know those two little sauces that come with your chicken at every Peruvian chicken place? Ordered a whole chicken, plantains, fried rice and chicharrones. At check out they were to split the order. They ended up billing the same card twice. Additionally I got half way home and realized they shorted me the rice. Turned my car around and went back to the restaurant. Upon arrival, they argued with me that they had given me the rice. Eventually they gave in and provided me with the missing rice, but no without a lot of hassle. Most atrocious customer service I have experienced in a very long time. Sadly there are three pollo brassa's in this shopping center and I will not be returning to Super Chicken with my business ever again because of how they resolved their errors and poor customer service. read more

This is the best Peruvian chicken in the entirety of Maryland, don't listen to anyone who tells you otherwise.

The chicken here gets 4-stars but the sides bring my overall rating of Super Chicken to 3-stars. Don't get me wrong, the chicken is delicious here with an excellent spice rub. The chicken is also well cooked and very juicy. But, the sides are subpar and bring the dish down instead of helping to elevate the chicken. I got the 1/4 chicken dark, coleslaw and rice and beans. The coleslaw was flavorless and more dissapointingly, dry. Dry coleslaw? Come on now.. Also the sauce the coleslaw was in was strange. It was fatty like mayo but had no taste of mayo.. What is this mystery sauce? The rice and beans were not very good either. The beans didn't really have much flavor. What is the standard that I'm comparing Super Chicken to, you ask? Sardi's in College Park of course. The chicken is comparable at these places but Sardi's sides are amazing. Go try their rice and beans and come back to Super Chicken.. you'll be utterly dissapointed. I'll have to try El Pollo Rico next time and compare these battling neighbors! read more

Super Chicken is a great bargain, it has to be as there are three Latin chicken joints in this strip mall! Service was fast and friendly. Cost of whole rotisserie chicken plus two sides was a mere $16.99. This is a great place to pick up a hot meal in a pinch! All the Latin chicken kinda tastes similar to me but it's the little special sauces that keep me trying new places! Also-they boast quite a side selection. Enjoy!! read more

This place is delicious. I'm quasi obsessed with it and will randomly crave the yuca fries and plantains. The chicken is flavorful and not dry, the green spice to go with it is on-point, and the staff is always friendly. I'm pretty sure they are cash only below $10 but I could be wrong, and regardless, it's then a great excuse to add on additional items or buy more chicken. My favorite find . I love this place for their tasty chicken and their sides are delish! I get plantains ( sometimes very rare they do have an off day on it) and their coleslaw. My honey gets the French fries( they seem to fry it fresh every time we go! Amazing) and the fried rice. Even our little dog loves this place give it a try; no regrets. read more

On Thursday June 9th I have visited Super Chicken right about noon. Ordered half chicken with rice and plantain. Got the chicken and rice, plantains were not ready, I was asked to take a sit and he will bring them to my table. What a surprise when I receive four pieces of plantain, I asked the employee about it and his answer was "that's what I'm being told to do". The owner was there, and I did asked about it, she just said " they're four big pieces". Then I reviewed what I got charged for, I noticed about $1.00 over priced. I asked the employee about it and he said "any side that's fried has a $0.75 additional charge", but there wasn't any signs telling it. I did approach the owner for the second time and she said " well no one ever complaint about it, our price is competitive, most of our clients are construction workers (didn't know that a person that works in construction are low income)" the owner admit that there is no sign indicating about the extra charge (it seems like a scam, promoting one price but got charge more). I just don't understand the 5 star reviews for this place. Do you people have taste buds? Ok the prices are fair and the yucca is good but the Chicken sucks and the place is filthy. This place shares the name Super Chicken with Super Chicken in Hyattsville but has no comparison in taste of chicken. Super Chicken Hyattsville blows Wheaton away. I went to Wheaton on Sunday and ordered 1/2 chicken two sides the Yucca was fantastic and the yellow sauce was good. The chicken not so good though. It had a strong foul odor and tasted like cinnamon. For me 1) cinnamon, 2) bad smell, and 3) chicken don't go hand in hand. I only ate some skin and a little chicken but the smell made me sick and I threw out the rest. I've been to El Pollo Rico since it reopened around the corner and although the chicken is not as good as it was, it is far better than Pio Pio Super Crap. The only problem is EPR doesn't have many choices of sides. The sauces are better at EPR as well. The Green sauce at Pio Pio was more vinegar than peppers and was just watered down. The restaurant itself is just dirty... I wonder why the health department hasn't shut this place down. The kitchen was just filthy, greasy, disgusting. The employee cutting my chicken looked as if he hadn't showered in 3 days. I mean it wasn't that busy one of the 5 people working can grab a mop and clean up; it only takes a few minutes. If in the Wheaton area your best bet for Chicken is still El Pollo Rico. If you want side choices and affordability Sabroso in Silver Spring is a better alternative they are only 8 min away by car. 3.5 Stars Honestly, the chicken deserves a 4, but other factors lessen Super Chicken's star count. The sides are okay, nothing fancy. We always seem to get the yucca and coleslaw. Got take out from here for the first time the other night. This chicken was great, I would say a little better than El Pollo Rico because of the crispier skin. However, the sides left a lot to be desired. The french fries we got were cold and dry and the rice and beans were not flavorful and kind of goopy. My favorite Peruvian chicken. Although I don't like their location-it could be somewhat shady and dangerous for a lady to go by herself-, but, I really love their chicken. The staff is very friendly and attentive. They are always willing to make additional food whenever they ran out of it. Chickens are cooked everyday and the sauces are incredible! A crime that this place isn't rated 5 stars. Their yellow sauce is the best, tied with El Pollo Rico. Their chicken is absolutely superior. Personally, better than Sardi's. And while it doesn't have the higher end taste of Sardi's, I think that's what makes Super Chicken its own thing. Kind of gives you a hole in the wall feeling, even though it's very much in fine shape. Beans are better than the ones at both Sardi's and El Pollo Rico. I recommend this place to any Peruvian or newcomer to Peruvian chicken, because I think it's as close as anyone can get to the homeland's delicious recipe of chicken. read more

This is the only Peruvian chicken place my husband and I go to, as he has gotten sick from eating at El Pollo Rico before. Super Chicken's chicken is consistently flavorful and fresh, and their sauces are delicious. They put the fries in the fryer when you order them, so they are piping hot when you get them. We always do carryout here because the interior is dingy and the cleanliness is questionable. read more
