We chose Nancy Knapp because we appreciate how well she listens and incorporates our wishes with her professional judgement in planning. She describes our plan as a drought tolerant "woodland garden." It is filled with grasses and flowering plants, as well as a California Sycamore tree, a couple of moderately sized pines, and a small Japanese Maple. It attracts lots of birds and insects, including butterflies, hummingbirds , and honey bees. The rain gutters feed into a dry river bed that she designed. We love Nancy's creative thinking. She is thoughtful and honest in suggesting suitable plants as well as incorporating some of our existing plants, to create this small sanctuary that is enjoyed by all. Communication is essential for us and Nancy always responded in a timely way to our phone calls, emails, or texts. She is very friendly, thoughtful, and understanding. She met the timelines that we set out for each stage of the construction. Nancy works well with her crew. They are respectful and careful working around non-garden areas. She leads a team of kind and pleasant workers. We highly recommend Nancy Knapp and Weeds for beautifully planned landscaping.

We contacted Artscape and from the get-go, Ben responded promptly. Ben asked us to fill out a landscape needs/wants questionnaire which provided him with a general idea of our vision. My wife wanted more of a succulent dominant landscape whereas I wanted more color and plant textures. Ben spent a considerable time incorporating our thoughts into a cohesive plan and a landscape design to fit our topography and climate. This was a dynamic process with a lot of communication. With our budget in mind, Ben provided alternative plant choices and explained the reasoning in a thoughtful, kind, and professional manner. Ben is an excellent communicator and designer. Once we agreed on the plan, Oscar and Melvin completed the installation. They were always on time, worked tirelessly and surpassed our expectations of professionalism. We received status updates at each milestone and were informed on what work was to take place leading to the next milestone. During the install, they found some leaks in our irrigation system and fixed the leaks. Oscar went above and beyond to help us find and install a modern sprinkler monitoring system which is working wonderfully. We love our new front landscape and updated backyard landscape. Even our neighbors have remarked how much they love looking at the new landscape! We highly recommend Artscape! Ben's leadership and creativity in the design are unsurpassed, and Oscar and Melvin's plan execution produced a beautiful landscape which we will enjoy for years to come.

Mr. Carrillo showed up as scheduled, sent an estimate by email the next day and then he and his crew came at the date and time we agreed on and worked incredibly hard from 9 am to 6:30 pm on a very hot day. They had to break up hard, compacted dirt to install turf, repair an area of DG and put in a new border all the way around, remove sprinklers and check the drip system. When I looked the next day during daylight, I realized there were a few minor issues. I contacted him and he immediately came back to fix them. They did a great job and were professional throughout! Instead, we're left with a long list of problems and a company that refuses to take responsibility. Here's what we got for $30,000: 1. Backyard slopes toward the house! We hired them to fix drainage, but now rainwater could run straight toward our living room and sliding doors. How does a landscaping company get something this basic wrong? 2. Sprinklers spray directly onto our house. They installed sprinkler heads right next to the stucco walls and sliding doors. Every time they run, our house gets soaked! 3. Poorly installed sump pump area. They left a deep depression right in our walkway--a tripping hazard. Soil can wash into the basin, and the pump system appears to have drainage issues. 4. Drain covers cemented shut! Seriously? How are we supposed to clean or maintain the drains? 5. Stucco clearance ignored. Landscaping materials were left piled too high against parts of our exterior walls, creating potential moisture problems. 6. Front steps and landing already sinking! Brand-new work, and it's already showing signs of settlement. And the worst part? Their response. After multiple emails and photos documenting these problems, Guillermo and Alexis disputed responsibility for the grading and claimed it was done according to my instructions. I NEVER told anyone to slope the lawn toward my house! We hired professionals to FIX our drainage problems, not leave us worrying about flooding every time it rains. I've now filed a formal complaint with the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB). Over $30,000 spent, and this is what we're dealing with. Absolutely unacceptable. I would NEVER recommend Green Grounds. I'll let the photos speak for themselves.

However, after years of avoiding the dead grass and concrete that made up our backyard, we finally decided to do something about it. Enter Ryan and Kate. We had a vague idea about what we wanted. Lights. Grass. A space that can be functional and aesthetically appealing. Ryan and Kate took it from there. They had a vision. They drew up plans. And it was all so much better than we could have dreamed up ourselves. More importantly, they made the entire process effortless, taking care of permits and third-party contractors, and any other obstacle that came our way. Ryan was constantly e-mailing, checking in, making sure we always knew where things were at and what was going on. Kate would regularly send us photos of plants and greenery she was considering, walking us through the differences when it all looked the same to us. Before we knew it, the work was done. Or so we thought. The two of them were so fastidious with details, they were unable to consider the job truly finished until they were satisfied that everything was...perfect. And it was. Ryan and Kate absolutely transformed our backyard. It was like one of those HGTV home makeover shows. Complete with a deck, pergola, lights, grass, flowers, and benches...the back of our house went from an area we warned our kids to stay away from, to an outdoor living space where we now spend a majority of our time. We couldn't recommend Ryan and Kate strongly enough. They are visionaries. Professionals. OCD-like in their attention to details. And now that we've had time to enjoy the fruits of their labor, we're strongly considering redoing the front yard. There's no question as to who we'll call.
