Figured I had to navigate through all the over-the-top quotes all over again on Yelp in order to find a reasonable one with good reviews. Turns out luck was on my side this time around. Elmer responded within 30 minutes of me posting on Sunday morning. Waited a few more hours to get more quotes. (I had taken a very detailed picture of what the work would entail). I won't give the exact pricing, but Elmer's was reasonable while others simply don't respond or some ridiculous quotes (heard others talk about how some companies on Yelps are just preying on older folks to land their ridiculous quotes). The work was good (I can't really comment much, but jt was fixed). Elmer was cordial (but was late for about 30 minutes). Another little complaint I have is he doesn't take credit card. A vendor is just a vendor, right? After my experience with Ernie and his team, I beg to differ! I found him on "My best friend Yelp" (as my wife describes my relationship to Yelp) and decided to hire him to work on my late mother's yards. Even as the business owner, Ernie is "hands on", and worked alongside his excellent staff Fernando and Ramon (I may have missed another team member who came in the next day to work over the weekend). Ernie walked me through running the sprinkler system, and we mapped out which ones to cap, which ones to lower but keep, and he explained how the zones were intertwined in the front yard. They completed the Herculean task of trenching about 20' in order to relocate the sprinkler system and faucet for hose from the middle of the yard. It was intricate work that they needed to approach delicately, to avoid cutting wires. They also installed a new water shut-off valve- Ernie discerned that the main shut off valve was broken and not in its usual location. Sr. Ramon loaned me a small curved knife for pruning tree roots from the ground, and in doing so, gave me the gift of understanding that I can make tree root removal easier for myself without having to use a large and heavy pick axe! Sr. Fernando arrived early on day 3, and gave me a hand with relocating the round edgers surrounding my mother's beloved palms. After relocating the irrigation and taking care of the 30 or so sprinklers, the team lay down weed barrier and applied nearly 80 bags of mulch! In between, Ernie was very kind to take a look at an electrical panel in the back that was not working, and provided an assessment and his recommendations. He is truly multi-talented! He did a great job there, so I hired him to install bubbler type sprinklers for my home with a large lot to irrigate my large perimeter hedges. I was hand watering them for about 5 years, which was nice and calming, but very time consuming. Elmer and his staff did a great job within one week, which required a lot of excavation to get through the clay soil at my property. Elmer recommended and installed the Rachio brand irrigation system, which I like because it has a lot of neat features such as an app to review the four watering zones, water use, notifications of watering cycles, and notifications if the system goes offline, all which have been handy for me. I contacted them and scheduled an appointment for some drainage work to be done to the perimeter of my home (we have a negative slope). Appointment was on 7/6. They came out and assessed the job. They informed me I would receive an email within the next few days. Weeks went by and I finally contacted them regarding the quote on 7/28. The response came that they would let me know and I will be receiving it that day. A week later and still nothing. I contacted again, with no response. I was excited to receive service from them, but sadly their communication is lacking. If the job was too difficult, or they didn't have the time, I would have appreciated a notice. I was taken aback by the expensive quote so I asked him three times (text and voicemail) for a second quote to repair the existing valves. He would not give me the second quote. We needed to have our grass replaced in the front and parkway. It was no longer grass, but weeds. I had contacted a few irrigation and sod installers. Yesterday we had a dilemma on our hands. We turned on our sprinklers manually and upon attempting to turn them off after ten minutes they were "stuck". Tried calling everyone we knew to no avail. Finally resorted to calling the city of Downey water works department to dispatch a worker to come turn off my main valve of water in my home (side note my sprinklers were running for over an hour). I then went on Yelp to look for a good repairman. I came across Elmer. He promptly answered his phone upon my first calling him. He was great in offering to come later in the evening and turn my water back on (no fun having no water or unable to use your toilet). Elmer came as scheduled and was able to resolve my issues. He also replaced three of my manual sprinkler valves and lastly he installed a new water shut off unit. So, in the event we have another unforeseen event, we can easily turn off our water ourselves. We were doing the irrigation system in the back yard ourselves during the weekend to save some bucks. Everything good but we then bust the valve. We had to shut down the water for everything in order to stop the flood, as there was no separate shutoff for the back yard system. So we yelp around for this in the middle night. EC irrigation Repair responded in the very early morning at 6am. They arrived at 11.30am, exact time as promised. That is a huge plus for me to do businesses, to be on time. He quoted very fair about what's going to be done, and said will be back around 3.30pm to get it done. I trusted these guy so much because they responded fast, act on time.
