    Huge breakfast
    Rooty T.

First visit was a pleasant breakfast Saturday mid-morning. I ordered 1 scrambled egg, wheat toast, turkey bacon, and home fries. My partner ordered 2 egg whites, and un-buttered wheat toast. What we were served was hearty portions of a cooked to order breakfast. My meal came with 4 meaty pieces of turkey bacon. I ate half at the restaurant and the other half the next day. Our server 'Emily' was friendly and attentive. The restaurant has a large counter section which provides a nice view of the staff at work, and preview of plates as they come from the kitchen. Reasonably priced menu, fresh baked breads, muffins and other items, + prepared dishes to go offers a nice variety of meal options.

    Turkey scramble with grilled veggies

Decided to try this little diner out and I'm so glad we did! I love diners with counter service; Sunshine had nice low seats and plenty of booths. We were greeted immediately with coffee (diner coffee, nothing special)they do have a full bar and the couple sitting next to us had bloody Mary's which looked yummy. I decided on the turkey scramble with grilled veggies instead of home fries, they gave an array of hot sauces so I added a Chipotle hot sauce which added a nice smokey heat. The jellies are from local preserves do I had the orange marmalade on pumpernickel. My husband had french toast with a side of bacon which was cooked to crispy perfection. We will be back to try the huevos rancheros!

Great "remake" of the Sunshine Cafe!

Really like their breakfast sandwich, good service and menu options. Not a fancy place but clean and friendly.

Bad food, way overpriced. 2 slices of old bacon, undercooked eggs, dry overcooked home fries.

I ordered a turkey club on a wrap and a can of soda. It was pretty good, but cost almost 14 dollars. Steep.

I've visited several times and each time has been wonderful. Of the two items I clearly remember: the traditional breakfast sandwich was great. Bacon, egg, cheese, on a bulky roll. Easy to eat while driving, made fresh, tasty and sat well in my gut. This fine morning, I had the salmon bagel with the onion, tomato caper and hard boiled egg. While it couldn't eat it in car without a mess or bodies littering the streets, I waited until I got to the office. What I got was fantastic. Lots of salmon with cream cheese, sliced onion and tomato, and a condiment cup of capers. Slapped it all together (except the egg) and went to town on it. Good stuff. I can't say I've been in and ever found it to be backed up. Service has always been courteous, prompt, and attentive but not overbearing. While it is slightly off the commute route of rt2 ( but only about three Minutes off the exit. And drive right by that lowbrow Dunks), if you are coming from south of downtown Sterling on 12, it is an easy visit that will make your day a little better. And just for kicks, tell them Josh sent you. They'll have no idea who you're talking about but could be fun. I didn't keep track of the price today, but I'm usually getting out of there with something good to eat and a coffee for under 15 well-spent dollars. The place has a cool look to it. It used to be a couple different bank branches. Inside, they kept the vault door and used some of the safety deposit box doors as decorations. Pretty cool.

Service was attentive and friendly. Unfortunately the food was just not that great. I ordered the 1/2 soup, 1/2 sandwich with the butternut squash bisque and the butternut squash sandwich. The squash was good but it had a thick layer of oil on top that wouldn't mix in, so sometimes you would just get a mouthful of oil. The sandwich was very bland. It was the vegan option with butternut squash, portobello mushrooms, lettuce, and some kind of bean spread. The spread had a nice hint of sweetness but overall the sandwich was quite flavorless. Even if they had roasted the squash and let it caramelize a little that would have gone a long way. I know vegan food is not always a restaurant's forte but at this point that's no excuse. The wine we chose, the estate vignoles, was very unique, with a dry, apple-like flavor. I really enjoyed it. Overall, I would come back for a wine tasting but not for a meal.

Our scallop risotto and hangar steak were both perfect. The proteins were perfectly cooked, but the vegetables on the side for the steak were also delicious, including the pickled onions, and the risotto was probably my favorite I've ever had (admittedly I'm a normy and I think this risotto not being al dente made it better for me). We couldn't help but order two desserts, and while both were delicious I preferred the chocolate mousse over the tiramisu. It had a little crunchy layer to it. I still haven't tried brunch here but am planning on it eventually.

The corned beef hash was excellent, and even as a picky pancake lover, I enjoyed mine. My partner ordered the country breakfast, but we received the wrong order with different specifications. We didn't notice immediately and started enjoying the hash. It took the servers about two minutes to realize the mistake and attempt bring us the correct order, they had hoped we hadn't started eating the hash meant for another customer. Although the mix-up was understandable, it was a bit frustrating not to get our raisin toast or runny, sunny-side-up eggs as expected. We stayed with the wrong order and our was brought back to the kitchen. The biggest drawback, however, is the outdated ambiance. I appreciate the vintage, long-time diner charm, but the decor needs some attention: the cups are showing wear, the shades are dusty, and the hallway to the bathroom feels cluttered. The bathroom itself could use a thorough cleaning, the soap dispenser was empty, and the backup pump wasn't working properly, making the space feel less sanitary. A small renovation to refresh the space while preserving its classic appeal would really enhance the overall experience.

We visited Sunday morning at 10 am., which is a busy time for most breakfast spots. Locals suggested the French toast or country breakfast were the recommended ordered. I was pleasantly surpirsed to get seated with no reservation for a party of 2. I do recommend having a reservation though as it can get busy. The atmosphere is great for people who like sitting outdoors on a nice day as there are a ton of tables with umbrellas to keep people cool. You are able to scan a QR code to order anything off the menu and the service is great as the staff brings you the drinks to your table. For food they will text you when to pick up from kiosk. As for the drinks my friend and I both got the sangria, raspberry bellini, and fall sampler. All of the drinks were really refreshing and worth the price. The charcuterie and pretzel bites we got were also great for a nice winery day and the menu is pretty expansive so I want to try some other items in future visits. There were a lot of bees at some of the tables near where I sat and they often crowed the drinks and food so that it something to note. I definitely plan to come back next summer!

In the tasting room, we were given 8 one-ounce pours, and while we found the red wines to be better than the whites, the variety was enjoyable. Josh, who helped us in the tasting room, was fantastic--friendly, knowledgeable, and full of great recommendations. He really took good care of us and made the experience memorable! The tasting room is spacious, clean, and inviting. The outdoor area is really nice to have lunch or dinner on a warm day. After our tasting, we had lunch at J's restaurant, also on the grounds, and we had a reservation there too. The food was great! We tried the Banh Mi (not traditional and spelled wrong on the menu "Bahn", but we appreciated the creative spin--it was very tasty), the chicken tenders, and the pretzel, all of which were delicious. We also ordered wine from the shop but were unable to open it at lunch. We had to order bottles through the restaurant and they charge extra for that to open it, stating they need to track consumption. This was one disappointment. Overall, we had a great time and would return. If you're a fan of red wines and well-crafted spirits, this place is worth a visit!
