Friendly energy with local winery representatives. Affordable wines....you are likely to find one or two you really like...today we bought 2 bottles. However, 3 months ago my favorite winery from Suisun Valley, Mangels Vineyards, left the Co-op tasting room opened up their own tasting room within walking distance of this Co-op...just north on the same Suisun Valley Rd. We didn't even have to move our care to visit Mangels. We bought 6 bottles today from Mangels, and they were pouring at least 12 different wines, including rare varietals. Over the past few years, the majority of the wines we were purchasing at the Co-op were Mangels wines. Now, we will just go to Mangels tasting room directly! Mangels also has a nice large shady outside patio and lawn area with big trees...so I will stay even longer next time. read more

This is CA wine of 40 years ago: -You know it will win awards...but hasn't gone to their heads yet. -Engaging, really truly friendly wine people who love what they do and want to share it. -Basically completely undiscovered and unappreciated. Way better than the price for the wine, incidentally. Just staggering to run into a place like this. It is completely worth the trip, and will impress your friends. The guy working behind the counter actually got me to buy a wine not from his winery. The idea here is to have the people enjoy the wine. Drink until you can't drink anymore. They charge a fee for tasting with groups of 6 or more but if you buy a bottle they comp the fee and they offer a military discount. Get place with an excellent selection of wines of all varietals from the area. They have sweet wines, appertifs, bold reds, everything you could want, and they keep pouring and pouring. Good place for wine and their little snack section is nice too. They have different nuts and honey and jam as wells as furniture and woodwork made from wine barrels. The wine poured comes from 5 wineries in the area and has a massive selection of 20+ wines to try. The couple behind the bar love making wine and telling everyone about it. There are 6+ top notch wines on the list, my favorite being the Sunset Barbera. Definitely worth checking out! read more

Five or six Suisun Valley wineries pour their wine here. The staff are real winery workers - owners and winemakers, so it can be interesting to visit with them about their wines. Fellow Wine Enthusiasts Pay Head... There is a First Class Wine Tasting Room Nestled Right here in the Heart of Solano County. It is the "Suisun Valley Wine Cooperative" and it's Wonderful. I can say that with some minor authority in that my job took me all over the world, trying to take in the local color wherever I was, I got hooked touring as many wineries, breweries, and golf courses as I could. The wineries and the breweries were pretty much free there and golf wasn't all that expensive back then. I digress, so getting back on topic; I made my first of what I hope to be many visits to the Suisun Valley Wine Cooperative last Friday. These guys will not only educate your pallet about wine, but will educate your brain about how it's made. To me it is a fascinating process, the equipment used, the buildings, the smells and sounds of the different rooms all playing their own part in making the wine. Suisun Valley is starting to look like an extension of Napa in a way. All the wine grapes along our hills are a good thing. I think that's extremely cool and wish our local growers and wine makers much luck in one day kicking Napa Butt in blind tastings. The hillside views add to the ambiance in what would pretty much be likened to "Green Heaven" countryside. One of the coolest benefits of belonging to a small cooperative, it becomes a personal experience for all involved. I can see a great benefit for "newbie" wine cone sours to become educated if not on a one on one ratio but certainly at a more personal, person to person, level than most wine tasting experiences. That level of interaction between the wine experts and the student allows you to feel comfortable enough to start asking questions. The coop personnel were warm and friendly, and very attentive. If you were with a group of people and for some reason you were kind of down, you wouldn't be after a visit to the coop's warm and friendly atmosphere. Hey, this is old school wine tasting. These guys are cool. Now, I haven't spoken much about the product. I went there with some coworkers after a long day of training classes in Sacramento. As soon as we walked in we were all greeted with a word, a smile, and even a handshake, and of course, a taste of delicious wine. Now mostly when I go to a winery or a tasting room I can find something special to me amongst what they are putting out. I know what I like, I'm mostly a red kind of guy and when I do go white, it has to be dry. I do like some of the German whites that are fruitier. I kind of like the taste of most of the sweeter stuff to an extent, but my stomach system doesn't. Every wine I tasted was certainly above average in many ways. I tasted two Merlots that were somewhere in the middle between "Dry" and "Sweet" and done in such a mix as to make it more than work for my pallet. I actually had to buy some. It's rare when you get to taste 6 to 10 different wines and have every one be good in their own ways. I had an experience like that and the people at Suisun Valley Wine Cooperative are making experiences for people every day. I couldn't help thinking to myself, wow, this place is right here in our own backyard. Things are happening in Solano County, and especially the "SUISUN VALLEY WINE COOPERATIVE". John Q. Dropped in the other day on my way to Napa. The winemaker and owner of Blacksmith (one of the members of the CoOp) was tending the tasting room. This was one of the best tasting experiences I've had. Not only was Matt super knowledgeable about pretty much every aspect of the wine business but was eager to discuss and share as well. I learned so much in talking to him. Oh, and the wines. Granted I didnt try all of them. If I had, I wouldnt have been able to drive. They have wines from 5 wineries here (each day, someone from each winery takes a turn minding the store). The reason I was there, was because I had bought a bottle of one of Matt's wines at a high end wine shop in Beverly Hills, and absolutely loved it. So I tried all of Matt's other wines, plus some from Winterhawk. The wines were really incredible. There wasnt one I didnt like, and many of them, I would put head to head with wines double or triple their price from Napa. Matt's label is Blacksmith. There are only two places I know of to get it...Wine Valet in Beverly Hills, and here at the Coop. (there are probably a few other retail outlets that stock it, but I am not aware of them offhand) This place, and Blacksmith in particular are hidden gems. Its worth the side trip to check this place out. Oh, and did I mention the tasting was free? You can't go wrong. I think my favorite wine was the Blacksmith Syrah, though the Blacksmith Cabernet was incredible too. read more
