We signed a contract back in February this year for weekly service. We also signed up in February to open up the pool the second week in May. I did so early so we could make sure that our pool would be open and usable for memorial day. Service so far has been an absolute nightmare. We were totally flexible on the day of service and the time but just asked that it be ready to go by mid May and I let them know that I was having events on memorial day and on the Friday before. Here is what I emailed Sunset today about my experience thus far. It looks like barring a miracle, we won't even be able to use our pool on memorial day as the pool and chemicals are cloudy and our cleaner is not working properly: "I have called seven times to your office over the past three days. The first time I called on Wednesday to confirm that my service was on Thursday and it would be performed as scheduled. They confirmed yes. On Thursday (yesterday), I called because at 11 am, no one had arrived for the scheduled service that day. The front office again told me not to worry and assured me they would be coming that day, Thursday. Then I called again at 3 pm because no one was there and they said I was next on the Thursday schedule, and they should be at my home shortly. At 5:15 PM when no one had still arrived, I called again and your office was now closed. I left a message on the general number. I also called your "emergency line" and left a message there. No one ever returned my call. No one ever showed up!! Today (Friday) I called this morning and they said someone would be coming today. Then when no one arrived by 11 am, I called again and they said they didn't know what was going on and would call me back. No one did. I called again and the office was closed." So, if you want to spend your time chasing down customer service and looking at an unusable pool for the memorial day weekend, this may be your company for weekly service. Just don't ask for Thursdays, that's our day!!! (Dripping with sarcasm ). read more

I'd like to begin by saying if I could give 0 stars, I would have. We were remodeling our house, which involved installing a brand new pool in our back yard. After going back and forth with the village, then the army corp of engineers, then covid, we were finally ready for installation after a few years of delays. Once our property was ready for install, Nick, the owner, decided to increase his quoted price 40% due to an "increase to the cost of materials", which is not stated anywhere on the contract. He is refusing to return our deposit, and is basically telling us to take him to court, in the hopes that we will just let this matter go. I warn anyone who is considering to hire this company for anything to be careful, and be ready to hire an attorney. read more

Unreal. Steve Hopkins seemed very nice and eager to work with us. We sent him our property survey and he came to our house to get a sense of where we'd wanted our in ground pool and patio. Nice visit. Almost 3 weeks have passed since and there's still no estimate, no returing of emails or phone calls. Oh, sorry, he did send me an estimate....for someone else's project. Such a bizarre experience! We were interviewing several pool companies and Sunset came up in our search. They were very nice on the phone and set up an appt to come out within a week. The guy who came arrived 30min late (he did call shortly before the appt time to tell us he'd be late)... we were understanding that stuff happens. He was very nice as we took a walk around but then he kept taking phone calls during the meeting. Yes, they were work related and maybe if there 1 emergency type thing I get, but several non urgent things? And between calls and texts that was dinging every 5 minutes. I just felt that was rude especially when the meeting started so late. Other than that though I felt like he seemed really great and he said he'd get a proposal back to me in a week. Nearly 2 weeks pass with no word. I check in and also ask to see about setting up a time to go see some of their work (other pool companies had no issue handling this request and promptly...it's pretty standard when you are spending several hundreds of thousands on a pool and patio). Finally got a reply back saying he hadn't started on my proposal (2+ weeks later when I was told it would be 1) but would have it in a few days. He would also set up a time for us to view work they've done the following week. I said ok no problem. 6-7 weeks later and I never heard a thing. No proposal, no appointment as promised, nothing. I wasn't going to reach back out as I'd never work with a company with this poor of follow through. If you can't even develop a quote for a customer that was about to spend several hundreds of thousands of dollars what kind of service and work ethic could I expect once I had signed a contract? I bet I could guess based on this first (and last) impression. read more

In reading the other reviews, glad I'm not the only one they blew off. Reached out to them several weeks ago, Steve came to see our property and after several follow up phone calls still no quote. He followed up a left me a voicemail that he would send me a quote "soon" that was over 3 weeks ago and no word from them since then. Can't see myself working with a company that's not even interested in my business especially during these tough economic times. read more

I filled out an online form two weeks ago. Two days after, Debbie called me to set up an estimate. We had it scheduled for a Friday May 15 at 11:30, the day before, I called Debbie to verify the appointment, she said we may have to reschedule, but if that was the case she would call back. She never called back and nobody showed up on Friday, so I call in the afternoon and asked why nobody showed up or called. The girl that answered the phone put me on hold so she could ask Debbie, I was on hold for about five minutes when the girl got back on the phone and said someone will call back to set up a new estimate.....that was 8 days ago. Nick to reach out to me to apologize with what seems to be a reasonable explanation for the missed appointment and rescheduled with us. read more

They did an amazing job. My pool was not easy, I got quotes from different companies, and Sunset was absolutely the best value. They highest quote came from the biggest name pool company in our area whose first word to me were "If you are not going to spend more than $100K we are not interested. In fact we were spending twice as much and I did not appreciate the arrogant tone that continued through out the process. On the contrary, Sunset ownership showed up at my house to review all options and made a full commitment to completion dates and pricing. They crushed the un-named competitors pricing and the service and finished product were beyond expectation. I would highly recommend Sunset, Nick was amazing to deal with. read more

Sunset has been managing our pool for the last 3 years and every year they continue to impress us more and more! This weekend, a holiday weekend to top it off, Sunset once again exceeded our expectations! Our auto cover was not opening, we contacted Debbie who immediately contacted us to confirm the position of the cover. After not being able to reach us, she asked one of her employees, Brian to come by just to make sure that our cover was open for the weekend. Brian not only repaired the cover but also provided us with additional information to avoid the situation in the future and then offered us the option to call him back should we experience any more issues before our party! When we remodeled our home, we decided to add a pool. After speaking with several pool companies, we chose Sunset Pools & Spas. They were very helpful in the design process and did an excellent job with our pool construction. We also use Sunset Pools for our regular pool maintenance. The service and reliability of Sunset Pools was so bad and has completely left us without a pool cover. We started trying to get them to come and measure for a new solid cover. It took weeks and countless phone calls before they actually showed up. Once they did show up I had to email daily to get the actual quote. We chose a cover and gave them 1/2 down. Weeks later when I had nor heard back I called and was told the company they were ordering from had a employee quit and never placed my order. Sunset never bothered to follow up on my order an never notified me. Who knows had I not called. Once they realized their mistake in ordering they told me they would re-order and asked me a few questions. I found it odd they did not need this information before taking my order. Next think I know I received a new quote from them doubling my price. They claim I ordered a mesh cover the first time and not a solid one. I asked to have a owner call me. It took 3 days for that to happen. He was not at all apologetic and told me it was in no way their fault that the company they were ordering from did not place my order. He told me he would follow up with them and call me back on Monday (today). I of course never heard from them. I emailed them and asked for them to refund my deposit.
