Don't let the fact that the Grill shares a parking lot with a gas station and a liquor store cause you to go elsewhere. Went on Sunday afternoon for a late breakfast. It was still a 20 minute wait. This is a great find during our visit to Ithaca. It is on a hill so you can see Lake Cayuga in the distance when you sit on the deck. The food was very good. I especially loved the Duck Wings with the Asian Sauce. It is more meaty and flavorful than chicken wings and I loved the crispy skin. The portions are huge! For our family of 2 adults & 2 kids - 10 & 8 year olds, we probably could have ordered 3 entrees instead of 4. My steak tacos were filled with rare steak and a cilantro vinaigrette slaw. My husband's Gyro was more like a gyro salad with lots of lettuce and feta cheese. Even the side salad is more like the typical full-size salad at other restaurants. Note, this restaurant only serves breakfast and lunch. That's a shame since you can catch a beautiful sunset on Lake Cayuga from the deck. read more

Ate here recently with a couple of friends. The place was deserted but we had a nice view of the lake and surrounding area. I ordered the steak (medium rare) and eggs and was quite disappointed. I understand that this is a diner and had low expectations going in, but the meat was way overcooked and tough as shoe leather. Totally unacceptable. I left most of it on my plate, told the waiter politely, and he said he would relay my complaint to the cook. While he was pleasant, he did nothing to rectify my dissatisfaction whatsoever. Had he comped the steak (maybe 6 or 7 dollars?) I might have considered stopping here again, if only for the view. Now, definitely not. read more

Loved this place! Went there two mornings in a row for breakfast. The portions are large, service is good and friendly. This is a hometown diner. No grease! The homefries were potatoie and delicious. The daily special waffles always sound good: for example, "almond joy waffle" with coconut, chocolate chips and almonds; and, today's waffle was "chocolate banana with caramel." They also have several different waffle choices on the menu. Other daily specials (quiches, omelets, etc.) sound interesting as well and they have a lot of choices on the menu. Horrible service and food. Waitress took our orders and came back 25 minutes later to finally bring requested refills and the straw one of us asked for when we got there. The food took over 30 minutes and was cooked incorrectly. The "fixes" took another 15-20 minutes. This was a horrible experience. read more

While waiting for my dog to have surgery at the local Cornell University, I got hungry and saw this place on my Yelp app. It had good stars so I figured "why not?" OMG - it is SOOOOOOO GOOD!!! Relaxed atmosphere and great food! Waitresses are so friendly, giving me directions to the nearest shopping district as well. And they have a really amazing view of the scenery. Friday night, 7 pm, only 2-3 tables including ours but the waitress only came to check on us twice, the second time to see if we wanted the desert or check. Texas burger was alright, chili a bit watery, fries were good. I think they did give us extra chicken wings though. read more

The Sunset Grill gets 5 stars for service and atmosphere! The food was awesome for the price. We met family there for lunch and the table ordered from the breakfast, lunch and specials menu, all were very satisfied with their selections (including the people with allergies). It was nice that after we finished our meal, the check came quickly, but at no time did our server or any staff member pressure us to pay and leave so that they could turn over the table. In fact we sat and talked for over an hour and the only interruption was to refill our drinks. We will definitely be making a return trip! read more
