Although my initial experience with Sunset Gates was less than stellar, the owner, Shawn, really stepped up to make things right and delivered a 5-star experience. On the day of the installation, I was impressed with the crew that installed the gates. They were friendly, polite, and professional. Unfortunately, some of the cedar slats on the new gates were splintered and one of the privacy straps we ordered was not installed. We called to express our disappointment and the installer returned to replace the damaged slats and our missing privacy strap. While he was replacing the slats, he informed me cedar is very difficult to obtain due to supply chain constraints and the slats may not be as expected. While it wasn't great to hear since we specifically wanted cedar, not composite, it's not the fault of the business given the impossible COVID situation. Several months later, our gate needed to be adjusted and the owner came out to ensure it was corrected and we were happy with our gates. He also offered to have all the slats replaced to ensure we were satisfied. While the initial product may not have been flawless, the fact that Sunset Gates is (1) a small business dealing with the constraints of COVID, and (2) owning up to their mistakes and making things right speaks volumes. It is almost unheard of these days to have such great customer service but Sunset Gates really came through and we would certainly use them again in the future. read more

Beyond fantastic! We were in the market for two gates, our front entry gate to our courtyard, and side gate. We contacted 3 companies, 2 of which were a bit all over the place, wrong quotes, unsure pricing, lack of vision and creativity, and then we found Sunset Gates. Shawn from Sunset was amazing. From the first meeting to go over what we wanted, and what was possible within our budget, everything was transparent, upfront, and thorough. From there we whittled down our wants, with Shawn's guidance, until we got exactly what we were looking for. Since it was a custom made gate, with glass, we were given a 6-8 week window until installation. They hit the deadline right on, and during the initial delivery of the gate, due to an uneven road, the gate fell over. This amazing looking gate, still looked great, but it had a few scratches due to falling over. Shawn instantly notified us that he would be taking it back to ensure it was perfect, and two days later, he came back out, with the gate. All of this without charge, and initiated by Sunset. A truly top-notch company that I couldn't recommend more to anyone seriously looking to replace their gates. The second place took a week to respond. In the meantime we already had a bid from Sunset Gates! The third company never responded! All of our questions were answered by Dawn who works in their office. The decision to hire them was easy! We paid our deposit and started production. And I did not need a list of any other so-called reputable companies because I had already received an estimate from another company - one whom I immediately engaged and who came out on the scheduled day, at the scheduled time, and who did an excellent job. And I'd like to pose a rhetorical question to you, Shawn: Why would I want a recommendation from you for *any* company, given what happened? The answer is that I wouldn't, and my recollection is that I declined such a recommendation both because if your company functions in such an abysmal way, so would your recommendations and because I knew I would be calling the aforementioned company immediately after speaking with you. Yes, I did hang up on you: we were going around in circles and, at that point, you had insulted me by implying the issue was my fault. You're correct, though, something *DID* slip through your euphemistically named "fail-safes": your professionalism and integrity. It was, after all, a woman in your office who set up the appointment. And, as I wrote in my initial review, when I called and "mentioned the 1/2-hour in advance call, I was told, 'Yes. that's us.' " If she or any of your other office workers don't know how to set up an appointment properly or err in another fashion, YOU needed to take responsibility for that, not blame me or any other customer - and not try to buy a potential customer off with a "peace offering" so that they don't leave a review such as mine. And if I am outside of your service area, well, make certain ALL of your employees know what your service area covers so that errors of this sort do not happen again. I hired Sunset Gates to replace the previous homeowners poorly done DIY gate install. Shawn, the owner, came out to quote my project. He worked with me on how to make my ideas work in the space I have in order to provide a professional quality replacement. I recently had Sunset out to replace my 15 year old sun battered side gate. I cannot remember the last time I have been so satisfied with a home improvement project. The gate is beautiful.
