The food is always perfect! Customer service from the servers and hostess is VERY MILD... but i guess they get the job done

Man o man! There truly is nothing better than a frosty margarita and savory seafood boil from sunset crab shack! I was craving a seafood boil recently, and ever since my partner and I moved in the central Dallas area, we found Sunset Crab shack and quickly made it our go to for seafood boil! The service is always so nice and even on the busiest of days, we have never had to wait for a table! The vibe is quaint, and definitely fits in the vibe of the local Bishop arts area as itself is a old house turned restaurant! It's also become really known for it's back patio where they host bands and djs! This time I ordered their Friday special which is a 1/2 pound of snow crab, 1/2 pound of shrimp, a corn, potato, and sausage all for $27! The reason I always find myself coming back is because of their sunset sauce! I have had a few places in Dallas and this sauce is just so good! I also order the spice flavor diablo, and I feel like they are the only place that really does not hold back with spice, which I LOVE! My boyfriend opted for a buffalo sandwich and he loved it! I'd always wanted to try this spot since it's close to home, though I was a little hesitant after reading some mixed reviews. We came during happy hour, so margaritas were only $3--definitely a nice perk! For our meals, we both ordered seafood boil combo bags, and overall, they didn't disappoint. I got a combo with crab legs, shrimp, corn, sausage, and three potatoes for just over $30. The portion was fair for the price, and everything was fresh and flavorful. I ordered mine extra hot, but unfortunately, it wasn't quite spicy enough for my taste. While the food was solid, I'd say it's not my top seafood spot. Came an hour and a half before closing and my overall experience was pretty terrible. The area I was seated in was dirty, the restrooms were awful, and my waitress was serving me with a weird attitude. I ordered a dozen raw oysters and they were not tasty at all, on top of that the mfs only gave me ELEVEN. I had a good experience with the one on buckner blvd but this one was very unpleasant. Well my son offered to buy me lunch I wanted Seafood so I suggested sunset crab I haven't been in a while but the last time I had shrimp and crab build your own it came with corn, and potatoes low and behold when I got the menu it was as if I went through the twilight zone, the build your own is a rip off everything is priced separately and priced higher not the same at all, the corn, and potatoes are considered add ons and each one has its own price the the crab was OK but the shrimp wasn't the same as last time this time I had to Devein them who does that I couldn't eat that I just got through fighting my crabs to get the meat out of them and now i have to clean my shrimp I was very disappointed, and considering the shrimp was paid for I bought them home and gave them to my neighbors cat bon appetite they will never see me again this was terrible read more

Flavor is amazing. I made my own boil with snow crab, shrimp, sausage and corn. I mixed the garlic butter and cajun sauce. The shrimp and sausage had a lot of flavor and the sauce was great. The crab, it was a let down. It was so soft that when you broke it l, it didn't snap in half. It just bent. Had to really fight it to tear the shell. The meat would just shred instantly. It seemed really overcooked. The service is slow but they are really nice. Might just take some time to get their attention. read more

They underscaled the crab leafs and the crab legs were SUPER flimblesy.. has no meat fr and only came with 4 legs.... I should have crosschecked Yelp!) for something close to downtown Dallas, we settled for Sunset Crab Shack. It was an easy drive, and there was ample parking. We walked in and were seated quickly downstairs. It seemed very small, but there was also outside seating, and we saw stairs so assumingly upstairs seating, too. Off the bat, our waitress, Blanca, seemed disinterested, like she had someplace better to be. We asked for a new paper to spread across the table since the one we met there was already dirty. It took her forever to bring that, forevermore, to get us some water with lemons and another eternity to take our order. Speaking of lemons, we had to ask for lemons 3 or 4 times. Is there a shortage of lemons? She was stingy with the lemons!! When the food finally came, the fries were cold, the snapper was too salty, and the shrimp in the boil was excessively overcooked. The flavor of the boil was good, but the portions are small. We got the second-level heat (hot), and it was mildly hot. The dirty rice was the best thing I had there. The female bathroom has 3 stalls and only 1 handwriting sink. The male bathroom has 1 stall, but it was closed from inside with nobody using it. There is also a sink in the area before the bathrooms. I can't say I'll be back. The service was subpar, and the food is just okay. There are too many other options to choose from. read more

So my beau and I decided we wanted to do Cajun book for New Years Eve. So I called around 1pm to check their hours due to NYE. The young lady who answered the phone tells me they close at 4. Ok no problem. We pull up at 3pm and enter the building. It's cute from the outside with a little patio and the inside is decorated in a New England/ coastal theme. A little confusing since there's a sign that says "Atlantic" but I'm pretty sure you get your product from the Gulf of Mexico but ok. So the waitress seats us at a table - mind you it's maybe 315 - and tells us they are closing we can they can only do to go orders. There is like 3 other tables sitting and eating. But ok. I opened my mouth to be like yea that's not what I was told on the phone but my boyfriend gave me that "please don't be that asshole" face and I smile and say ok fine. The more people come in as we wait - like 330 - and they are told the restaurant is closed. We get the lb of crab legs, lb of shrimp and lb of crawfish with Cajun seasoning and mild heat since we are both from the north. Didn't like that you had to side order things like potatoes sausage or corn on the cob. Other places I've been to just throw it in. We take our sack - plastic bag full - and go home. When we get home the food still hot but slowly over cooking. It was hard to get crab out with it smooshing to pulp. The seasoning could have been stronger and the mild spice was more like weak sauce. I would for sure go medium or even hot the next time. However due to miscommunication/issues with closing time and the lack of heat in their spices I won't be returning. read more

This is my new favorite crab shack! I absolutely love the vibe here and especially the people. I get the same server each time and she is amazing. She is so attentive and always present. I always get the snow crabs. Today I got a pound of snow crabs, fries, and a margarita. For starters, I didn't know they had a happy hour! I got 2 margaritas for $3 each :)) The crabs are absolutely to die for. The seasoning is so yummy and they are the BIGGEST crab legs I've had at a restaurant. This place was the closest to our AirBnb, but we should have eaten fast food. The food was not good. Salmon overcooked, crabcakes burnt and unseasoned, shrimp was tough. I usually go to Krio; however, I was told that this place is amazing. And now here we are with this review. I ordered 2lbs crab and 1lb of shrimp (two of us were eating). The total bill was 102 and some change (which is much cheaper than most places since the pandemic has caused crazy inflation). Anyway, I live about 4 miles from the location and I drove straight home. When I bit into the shrimp - it literally oozed! Yes...like a pimple on a preteens forehead...is spat out the "shrimp" and tried another. Same thing. I then grappled a random piece of shrimp and squeezed it. Yup - I'm sure the the shrimp has covid 19 because they were DISGUSTING. I then went to try the crab. It was gritty. Very gritty. I had this place bookmarked as a new place to try based on the 4 star rating. It didn't live up to some of these reviews. For starters they do not have their liquor license, but you can order a michelada and they will give you the beer for free. But the michelada set up ended up costing $7!! I ordered the 1/2 pound of shrimp and snow crab with the sunset seasoning. I thought my food was fine. My BF ordered the sea scallops, but what he ended up with were bay scallops (the tiny baby scallops) and was not happy. He did not enjoy his meal at all. My friend got the crab-cakes and she didn't like her dish. We all ordered hush puppies and they were nothing to write home about either, although edible and I finished them off because I was still hungry. Service was fine albeit a little slow.
