I've been using their level 3 bed and I've never had an experience like this tanning where I found 4 long white stripes down my back. When I brought this to their attention they were defensive in making sure I knew their bulbs were new and that I need to constantly readjust positions if I want to avoid white stripes. So now this is my fault? I've never been warned that using a lay down bed I need to be moving around so I don't get white stripes nor have I ever had this issue tanning anywhere else before. If their beds give their customers white stripes down their body that are absolutely humiliating then that should be said when signing up for a membership. Or they should get new beds because that doesn't seem right to me. Hoping to cancel my membership now Update: thanks to the owner for replying. I replied stating how frustrated I was, how they should warn their customers of white stripes, and how I'd like to discuss my membership. As a member of a place, I feel I should trust them to warn me about potential issues, I'm paying for the service that they should be knowledgeable about correct? And the lack of genuine concern and trying to upsell her higher level beds which I'd have to pay extra to use just to fix something they didn't want me about. They were also totally fine explaining my membership and how I can quit anytime I want to. I'm sorry but doesn't it make sense to try to retain long term customers? I was so brushed off and dismissed, I wasn't treated as a person, I wasn't understood about my frustrations. The company is very defensive to not take accountability and instead explain how the beds are obviously going to prevent uv exposure in some places and I can see for myself. Who here can explain how tanning beds worked? Is it obvious which places on a tanning bed will prevent uv exposure to someone who has been an inconsistent tanner for only 4 months? Is that common knowledge. because I was made to feel like it was instead of simply recognizing that this should have been communicated and they made a mistake, or even trying to make it right for me. This company has the worst customer service. It can't even be called service. Do NOT buy into any of their special promos or offers. Their craftily written agreements will trap you into paying more than advertised and will not allow you to cancel as you are led to believe. This is a horribly run company that focuses on their bottom line and not on their customer satisfaction - they do not behave with honor nor integrity. The first incident happened a few years ago when one of their employees comp'd me a tan and then management took it away after the fact, and without notifying me, and took it off of one of my package of 10 tans. Do not go here. I just had to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. They have an F rating with the BBB. After my failed attempt to address this with the company, I submitted a complaint with the government regulatory body - BC Consumer Protection as well, since they obviously do not care about the 15+ complaints to the BBB. For others that have been scammed by this company, you are protected by the Sales of Goods Act and the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act. But you need to act under those statutes within 2 years. There are also avenues of redress through tort law, such as the civil resolution tribunal. Based on all the complaints and reviews online, this company needs to be held responsible for what amounts to a pattern of ripping people off in the exact same manner, and threatening to send fraudulent claims to collections as blackmail. Doesn't even deserve a single star in rating. Worst customer loyalty service and rude staff. I was away and I lost my card and missed a payment before being able to come back, get my new card and update the payment. They charged me double the money and they said it doesn't matter that I was in a different country and I should pay for the late payment fees. In all of the 16 different memberships that I have all around the world, I have never experienced such an inconsiderate and rude company. After emailing them and asking to speak to manager, they dared to say they wont answer my email anymore and management wont talk to me. Just wow. SunScape Yaletown is our neighborhood tanning salon and has been since we moved into the area years ago. The salon is always clean, which is the most important thing for me. The staff is friendly, happy and the beds are the most current available. They now have an online booking system which makes it super easy but walk-ins have never been a problem. read more

We were told we "had to come into a physical store" to cancel my membership - and we were told this 'after' being told we can just cancel by phone. We had already moved and had no intentions of booking a flight back to Canada just for this. So we sent a certified letter to these asshats, and heard nothing. Now almost a year later, we get a charge on our account. We disputed it, and now they're threatening to report it to a credit bureau. I give no stars. Their 3 month introduction is actually only 3 months if you start on the first Of the month, but if you start a membership near the end the prorate it and you will get 2 months and what ever days left. Then once done your so called 3 months they charge you $99 a month. No where does it say that in their advertisement for this promotion and a total scam if you dont start at the beginning of the month. I had such great care and thoughtfulness given by Natalia at the Yaletown location. I am a pretty happy tanner and not too fussed but this time was a bit different. She keenly listened to my needs, had great knowledge and information to answer my questions, and went out of her way to make sure everything was right and I was set. She even lent me some of her personal sunscreen when I presented some facial burning concerns (though she encouraged fewer minutes too :)) Wow! I was a customer for years on a monthly renewal plan and my credit card expired and they charged me a fee for the mistake, without warning me on one of my multiple visits that my cc was expiring soon. At least they could remove the charge as I've been going here for 5 years! It's not about the money it's about treating customers with respect . Additionally, when I signed up I was promised a bunch of perks by the sales staff, then when I tried to redeem them they declined me. I've been a customer at the Yaletown location for 9 years. I was sold a package that expired in only 3 months and this was not made clear to me at all. I lost half my package because of it expiring. They were not willing to make any exceptions for someone who has been a loyal customer for 9 years. I had the new manager promise to sort out this issue and when I returned a week later she had already been let go. I understand that package expired, but most business would try to keep a loyal customer happy with some sort of compromise. I have to say the staff was apologetic but the company was willing to do nothing for me whatsoever. Needless to say they lost me and my husbands business. read more

They need customer service training I'm the one who is easily satisfied about the service, so I've never given bad comment to some specific company. But in this case I felt pretty much offended. In May 13, 2019 around 8 p.m., the clerk was so rude. Only thing I did was just asking a question about eye protection cuz I felt like losing my eyesight while Red light therapy procession. And also I saw the caution on the machine about that. While conversation, she seemed like she doesn't want to talk with me and want to finish the conversation as soon as possible. She also never smiled and greeted when I went out even though she saw me. I believe they need to train employees about customer service. read more

They consistently 'demand' by email only of course that I show up at the salon to 'clear' the air. No phone calls. No warnings that the expiry date is elapsing soon. The accountant's emails are rude. Last, nobody attaches their names to an email when responding back to my emails, diffusing responsibility. It's really too bad, because Sunscape could have enjoyed several years of monthly dues from me and relative customer satisfaction with the service, but after the lip service from accounting and customer support, I am appalled at the business practices at Sunscape and must withdraw out of principle. I have bought a package online last month, and I've visited the Yaletown location 5 times since, whenever I visit this location, they are not able to find my purchase history, wouldn't let me get tanning. They say they would contact the head office but whenever I return to the store nothing has changed. Customer service at this pathetic location is frustrating, no one seems willing to help me or allow me to contact their store manager. - the girl working at the store today even told me there is no way to contact the manager at this location - no phone number, no business card, no email at all. I am horrified and disappointed on numerous levels with the product and service. On my first visit here, I explained that I wanted just a light color and glow and that I don't tan too often. The girl working there showed me all of the beds and had suggested a level 3 bed, but not for the full duration. I said, so maybe 7 mins, she said 9-10 mins and if I get hot I can always stop it. I said ok. I never felt hot or burning sensations and did the full time duration. I woke up this morning extremely sunburnt on my front and back. However the bigger issue is that I have four white stripes down the length of my body. I assume from the gaps in their light bulbs. Now, I've tanned before and never had this happen. I went back this morning looking for solutions and the girl offered for me to buy another tanning sessions to try and even it out. No other solutions. I asked for a manager or owner and she said she could not contact them. I asked why not, and she said hats just not how they do things. Then some orange Oompa Loompa girl decided to chime in saying it's my responsibility to move around on the tanning beds. I look horrible! read more

Buckle up for this one. TL;DR VERSION 1. SunScape lost my lotion and goggles which were basically unused 2. They tried to remove all accountability because of "policy" 3. Offered the most half-baked compromise I've ever seen - wasn't even valid by the time I found out about it 4. Don't believe less than $10 cost is worth paying to keep a customer 5. Left me out to dry after months of back and forth CONCLUSION - atrocious customer service, no concept of customer relationship maintenance, no sense of basic business practice. Here's the story: Let me clarify from the outset that the tanning service and equipment itself are not bad. However, I can confirm that the other reviews noting how the company tries to screw their loyal customers out of money is an absolute truism. Upon initiating my membership at the Helmcken location (downtown Vancouver), I purchased a bottle of tanning lotion and protective eye-wear (approximately $80 total value). These can be kept at the store itself on a shelf beside the front desk among other clients' tanning supplements. They are all name tagged and monitored by the staff, who locate and provide you with your respective products whenever you arrive for a tanning session. Now, I'm not the most avid of tanners, so the cadence of my visits was not very frequent. After about 3 sessions into my membership, I did not visit for a few weeks simply due to my schedule - no complaints at this point. During my next visit, the staff could not find my tanning lotion nor my goggles. They explained that because I hadn't visited for some time, they must have been moved to a storage room in the back. They weren't there either. I was told they would put a note in their system to make sure the rest of the staff kept a lookout for them. Okay sure, no problem. I would tan that session without lotion, and they provided me with disposable eye-wear for the time being. I made a conscious effort during the next few sessions to follow up with the lost lotion and eye-wear mystery, each time being greeted with only a perplexed look by the staff who would check the system and confirm that "oh, yes there is a note here - we will let you know". This was followed up by a "just so you know, we are not responsible for any lost items that you leave here". Not pleased. I requested that some form of compensation be extended my way to offset SunScape's loss of my price-inflated, 99% full bottle of tanning lotion and like-new eye-wear. Look, I get how these businesses are run. They set arbitrary policies and guidelines to remove accountability for situations like this. But at the end of the day, of course it's their fault. Now, I'm not angry about the wasted money. It's not a lot and it's not about that. But you would think that a sizable company like SunScape would take a step back and simply do right by the customer for the principle of it. However, it's apparent that they aren't familiar with the concept of maintaining good relations with paying patrons. Here is what they offered me after weeks of teeth-pulling: 1st offer: Nothing, just excuses of why losing my items was not their fault. 2nd offer: A small discount (something like 10-15%) off a new bottle of lotion. Didn't seem like a reasonable fix. Regardless, they did not email or notify me in any way about the fact that the offer had an expiry date. By the time I found out about the offer, the expiry date had come and gone. Great, thanks guys. I decided that I'd call it a day if they just provided me with a new complimentary set of reusable goggles - a $10 value. Not out of line at all, in my opinion. The level of satisfaction I would've gained as a customer would far outweigh the small price tag of the item. You would think that this would've been a no-brainer for SunScape, absorbing less than $10 cost to keep a customer. Nope. "Sorry our policy doesn't allow us to do that". I swear there was a tape recorder at the desk just set to play on repeat. After months of back and forth, SunScape did absolutely nothing for me. Zero. Zilch. Here's the kicker. The disposable eye-wear I used each session while trying to sort this whole thing out? They insisted on charging me for all of those, and so politely notified me on the same day that they told me I was SOL. $1 each time for what are basically stickers you put on your eyes. Hope you're listening, Kelly Kerr. Heading over to cancel my membership now. If I wanted to get shat on this badly, I would've auditioned for 2 Girls 1 Cup. read more

If you move, change credit card numbers or aren't interested in tanning anymore, rather than suspend your account after a failed billing like virtually every other service provider out there, sunscape will suspend your account then keep accruing charges on an account you aren't even capable of using.  Then they'll send you a random collections letter and their accounting department is full of the absolute worst human garbage i've ever encountered. Charging you for services not rendered. It's unethical and this company needs serious fines.  First of many negative reviews to come, including the BBB and Consumer Protection BC. read more

Absolutely disgusting that I have lost my money. I have not felt safe or confident to use the establishment since Covid, however today I went to use my pre paid services to be told they had expired. I had paid up front which means nothing today. In addition to the fake positive review, SunScape Tanning has horrible business ethics. Their cancellation policy is insanity and an absolute cash grab. Also, they recently added a "new bed", to their Yaletown location which sounds great. However, this essentially forced customers to pay an additional 15 dollars or they would have 1 less bed to use. How is this logical business practice? So I use to have 5 beds to choose from at the highest package, and now I only have 4 and 1 of those being a premium bed. So you can imagine that bed is never available any longer and I never actually get to go tanning anymore. I have been a loyal Sunscape customer for over 5 years and this is how you treat your customer? There are far too many options to choose from and I have decided to take my business elsewhere. The beds are super old and one of them gave me the worst sunburn I've ever had in my life after only a few minutes. I had been to another salon recently and done a full 15 in a higher intensity bed. Apparently this is because this bed is old and has the highest amount of UVB (I think UVB) which is being phased out because of its likeliness to burn people. Unfortunately I had already bought a short term membership, so I had to return. The standup was also old and kind of sketchy. I felt like the fan was going to catch a piece of my ponytail and scalp me. I also felt like I was getting tiny shocks while it was running. At the end of the day you get what you pay for, (this place is probably the most inexpensive)but I would honestly pay more to avoid getting burned or exposing myself to the more harmful rays. read more

So I called, and the girl that answered flat out refused to give me information because they're apparently guarding the secrets of the government and cannot give that information out unless you go for a consultation. I've been using Sunscape for a few years now, and generally have had good experiences, so I don't want to give just a one-star review. But a recent experience where I was given the wrong information by a staff member has caused me to lose out financially, and I'm not likely to be back. When I was last in the salon for tanning back around Nov/Dec last year, I asked the front desk assistant how long I had until my pre-purchased tans expired - I had roughly 8 left to use. She said they wouldn't expire until August 2017. At the time I said 'oh perfect, so I'll have them for the start of Summer next year!' and she smiled and said yes. I'm very clear on this - it was perfect timing for me, so I was stoked. I just went in over the weekend to use one of my pre-purchased tans for the first time since that visit, and was told that they'd already expired - in February. I explained that I'd explicitly asked and been told that they were good until August, but the staff member shrugged and said there was nothing to be done about it. I asked why I didn't receive any sort of notice or indication that they were about to expire back in Feb, and she said they don't do that because they tell you when they expire. My response was yes - but someone here gave me bad information when I specifically asked! I get that there isn't anything on paper to show what I was told, and I know I could have dug up my original receipt/document to find out when they expired. But when the staff member has that information right in front of them, and tells you when you ask, of course you trust that information. But now I'm already out of pocket, and the 'not my problem' attitude of the staff after someone made a definite mistake has me looking for another tanning salon. I don't want to spend any more money here. So word of warning to anyone considering pre-purchasing tans here - make sure you confirm the expiry date at least a couple times. I bought a Groupon for Mystic Tan at SunScape and tried it for the first time over the weekend. I had never been to a tanning studio before the lady behind the counter was very helpful and went over how to use the booth with me. The room was clean. I was provided with a large and small towel, barrier cream (a lotion that prevents too much sunless tanner from soaking into hands, feet, elbows, and knees), and a disposable cap to cover your hair. The spray tan was a lot quicker and drier than I expected; I didn't even really need to towel myself off once it was done. The colour developed over the next few hours, and, while some people might be able to tell it's a spray tan, it doesn't look too orange. As I was leaving, the girl informed me of their membership options for the tanning beds and booths and UV-free spray tans as well as the lotions they have available without being pushy. All in all, it was a good first experience in a tanning salon and I'll definitely be back if I want to try tanning again. read more

I went here for the first time the other day and was blownaway by the Beds they have!. I wasn't even in the best bed and the thing had face fans... mists that intermittedly misted me.... Aroma options and ........ it talked to me! I ended up getting a VERY good deal (if you like their FB page and "check in" you get 2 sessions in their best bed for $25. The girl behind the counter said that it was usually about $40 for ONE session in the best bed they have. all in all an awesome experience! read more

Great options, prices, and services! Favorite tanning in the city. There are 5 different levels (prices) of beds, and it's cheaper if you use a lower level one. (which for beginners is all you need.) Unlimited packages start at 20 dollars a month for unlimited basic beds, and If you want to try out a more expensive bed it's discounted about 20 percent from whatever it would normally cost to drop in. I wanted a fast tan, so I signed up for a month unlimited in the level 5 high pressure bed (which is super awesome and high tech looking,) which ended up being like 200 once I bought lotion and googles too, but a week in I already look like a bronze goddess, so the indulgence was worth it :) read more
