My husband recommended Sunny's as a good sushi spot and highly recommended their crab Rangoon. I absolutely love crab Rangoon so of course I gave in and decided to give them a try! We visited on a weeknight for dinner and were seated right away. The restaurant was fairly busy for it being a weeknight but the service was still great! Our waiter came out right away to get our drink order. I asked him for a recommendation for their flavored Sake and he suggested the white peach so I ordered that. It was good! Very strong. But I liked it. My husband and I each got our own order of crab Rangoon. Let me tell you, they did NOT disappoint! I'd honestly get two orders just for myself, it was so delicious. For my main dish I got the California roll. I know, I'm very basic. But honestly it is my favorite! I think we may have come on an off day for them because the rice used for the sushi rolls was a bit dry. But it wasn't unbearable. They also give free miso soup and pickled cucumbers. Very tasty! I'm a fan of Sunny's, and gratefully I've been blessed with a husband who takes me out for sushi even though he can't stand it. For those who aren't a fan...they have a good chicken fried rice. I even tried my hand of replicating it at home! I've been to another location, but this one is closer and I like it better. Win! It's a little larger (not as tight) and cleaner. They were busy on the Friday night we dropped in, so we sat at the bar, but there's some decent booth seating. A college game happened to be on, so it ended up being perfect for us. Go Ducks! While we there we saw many to-go orders being picked up which let's you know people know what's up. I can attest to the fact that their seafood is very fresh! When looking at the menu I'm always torn on which sushi to get. Can't go wrong with any. This time I went with the Mexican Orgasm roll. As far as sushi goes, there are honestly more options than you'd think out here in the old western town of El Paso. This one, is one of the better ones. Yes, everywhere you go to eat sushi, assuming because of the products required to make it and make it fresh, is going to be a bit on the expensive side, and this place is no different. It is a little more expensive than I like, however, I love sushi and and as long as I can have quality sushi, I'm willing to pay what's wrong the cost. No, this is not super authentic Japanese sushi. I say that, because I lived in Japan for nearly a decade. However, I still love this place, and if you've never really lived in Japan, then it's a moot point, and you'll enjoy this place just the same. The quality is pretty good, to be honest. The products are always fresh. Keep in mind, El Paso is a land locked city in the middle of the west Texas desert, surrounded by sand, and Mexico. And we aren't exactly catching our fresh salmon for the nigiri in the Rio Grande, so for where we are, I'm rather impressed with the freshness and quality. As most sushi places are here, these rolls are more suited for the westerns palate. And you'll find all kinds of creative rolls with creative ingredients that they'd turn their noses up at in Japan, but hey, if it works it works, and this place works. They have a large menu as well. With many Japanese dishes as well as Korean dishes. Also common here in El Paso. Most Japanese places here, or sushi places, also have a large selection of Korean specific dishes. Which is fine, more to choose from! This is one of (I believe) 3 Sunnys Sushi locations in town. And by far the nicest (decor) and newest one. What a great place. First my server, was very attentive, he kept coming back making sure we were ok. And made my experience very enjoyable. The ambience and the place is very mellow, perfect for a first date, or simply a lunch, really like the decoration on the tables with the pink napkins! Last but never least the food!! What a great flavor, I order the chicken karage, the giozas, the crab meat rolls for appetizers and for rolls got the golden cali, shrimp tempura and the crump shrimp roll great flavor very well plate. When I'm visiting El Paso and after a few days have Mexican food coming out of my ears because it's so delicious I like to switch it up and go to Sunny's Sushi ! I specifically like the location near Montana on the far east side. It usually has the best service and COLDEST beers in the west , of Texas that is . No joke the beer glasses come out practically frozen as if the cup is actually made of ice. This makes those hot desert days fade away while your Kirin Ichiban ( Japanese beer) just seems to go down so much smoother than in a warm mug you'd get somewhere else . The food is always really good of course and I definitely have some favorites. For an appetizer the tempura shrimp and spicy edamame are what you want sharing is caring but you might not want to share after your first bite . As far as rolls go the Mexican Orgasm roll or Lion King Roll are my most favorite. For the simple roll goers the Crunch Shrimp Roll and Caterpillar Roll hit the spot. Of course they have deep fried rolls like the Chefs special or Golden California Roll but those are really heavy and a great pick if you just want to fill up on one roll and not spend a lot . Sunny's also has great kids selections including noodles and chicken, fried rice and protein of choice or an awesome bento box that my son loves to get with teriyaki chicken ! There are plenty of options other than just nigiri or rolls . They have a lot to choose from incase you have a picky eater who's not into sushi so don't be afraid to bring someone to try something new . El Paso is full of culture and tons of great food you just have to know where to start . Put them tacos down and get down here !!! read more

Sunny's Sushi in the shops at Tierra Este is my favorite location because of the extra touch of quality customer service quality and food. All Sunny Sushi locations in the El Paso area are very similar, they all are top locations for sushi in El Paso, but this one surpasses the other ones; they all are located in a mini-mall, and the parking lot is shared with other shops, so it is not always easy to find, cozy feeling, inside decor very similar, and offer the same menu and affordable prices. One of my favorite menu items is the Volcano Sushi. I highly recommend. read more

I arrived at like 9:20pm and the waiter just was just looking at me then I said "ummm... table for 2" and she says kitchen close in 15mins, I said ok so we can't be seated, she goes to her manager and he says no, then she says would you like to order something. so what is the difference between seating and waiting for the food and still having to sit and wait for the food??? My wife had frequented the Viscount locale and said it was very good so we wanted sushi and since this new location is closer to home we came here. We ordered 4 rolls; Spider, Tiger, Beauty and the Beast and Lobster Tail. They start you off with miso soup which was delicious and flavorful and some cucumber kimchi. All the sushi was delicious with the Beauty and the Beast and the Lobster Tail being spicy and the Spider and Tiger being very yummy. The only negative was that both the Lobster and the Tiger were very loose and came undone when you eventually got them with your chop sticks so hence the 4star review. Our waiter was attentive but not overbearing which we appreciated and my wife did state the place is modern, trendy, hip and young and vibrant so we both fit in just right We shall return to try different rolls but for now try it, you'll be glad you did. read more

2019 Nov 02 So it's been a year since I last came here. Definitely noticed some improvements. Customer service was on point as before. Great host and waitress. Nothing new there. The cucumber "salad" side was less sugary than the last time I had it. It tasted more balanced. Started with an appetizer and had the Japanese Coroke. It was potato filled and the sauce it came with made it taste better than eating it alone. Main course I had the volcano sushi. It said on the menu it would be spicy but I was skeptical about it because any restaurant I been to that claimed something was spicy it was just medium ish. Spicy enough to make me sweat a little but not burn my mouth. Not this plate. The volcano sushi roll was hot. Much hotter than anticipated but worth it. Had some scallops on top of each roll which made it that much better. I could've eaten more but me and my wife had plans to go get some dessert so had to leave room. Asked a local friend for a recommendation since we just moved here from NYC and boy am I glad we listened!!! The sushi was so fresh and delicious! We ordered pick up for dinner and it was ready in about 20 mins. The rolls are a nice sized portion. It is a little pricey but well worth it. 4 rolls cost us about $72. I haven't tried anywhere else and honestly don't think I want to, this will be a hard place to beat. read more

We got 2 shrimp tempura rolls and they looked huge, but the roll had very little filling so you end up eating a gross bland rice paste and the thick breading- Not the shrimp tempura I am used to- waste of my money, I will continue to look for a good place in El Paso to get sushi cause this place is certainly Not it. read more

Apparently El Paso dosen't know Jack about sushi. I travel all over country, and was in town for the night. Saw great reviews, and the Mexican orgasm looked interesting, a Mexican twist on sushi! Of course, only in Texas, sounded good, but highly dissapointing. Description says topped with crab meat, what they mean is imitation crab meat. I got this order to go, because you know, covid, but turns out dine in was open... so they put all the sauces on the side, which just shows even more how pathetic this roll is. Overall very good dining experience at this restaurant. This was my first visit to Sunny's Sushi. I had some good recommendations form my friends, and I was not disappointed. It was a little bit of a drive here from NE. Due to some bad traffic along Montana, my GPS took me out of the way avoiding Montana altogether. I arrived at about 4:45 pm for dinner, and the restaurant was not crowded perhaps due to early hour. Since I was dining alone, I sat at the counter next to a sushi chef. I thought since it was a Friday evening, the place would get busier, but when I left about 6 pm, there were only handful of tables occupied. Perhaps it would get busier later... There were a few folks picking up their take outs. I chose to try Sushi and Sashimi (6 pcs. each of assorted sushi & sashimi) for $19.95. After all, this is a sushi restaurant. I thought neta (pieces of fish) were very generous in size, and rice pieces were not too big. That is always a good sign for good quality sushi. I liked most of fish pieces...yellow tail, yellow fin tuna, maguro, toro, albacore tuna, salmon, squid. However, I really didn't care for tako (octopus) and white tuna. Actually, I never had white tuna before, but it tasted rather bland. I'd rather have regular tuna instead. I normally like tako, but it was rather rubbery and chewy (indication of not being too fresh). I told my server that I don't eat shrimp, so I didn't get any. After finishing my plate, I needed something a little more, so I ordered tuna roll ($7.95). I was expecting a normal half-roll, but what I got was a regular size roll with tuna and cucumber combo. It tasted good, and it filled me up. Chef offered me a freshly grated raw wasabi. It was so different from the normal reconstituted wasabi from power, but I really enjoyed it. I thought that was a nice touch. I will recommend this restaurant if you like sushi. read more
