Had an *interesting* experience to say the least at "Sunny Nails" in East Hanover. Not my usual salon, but I thought I'd give them a try. I get dip powder manicures and according to the owner "if another salon does it better I would just mmm go there" after I very kindly just asked if it was supposed to be grainy when finished. (Which is never grainy when finished , I just said it like that to be nice). While I was there I also noticed that the owner answers the phone and schedules appointments followed by "are you going to be on time?" "Are you going to cancel?" Everytime . When I made my appointment yesterday she also said "if you're going to cancel you need to tell me by 9:30 AM tomorrow" which for my first appointment I thought was pretty strange for nails. ANYWAY, if going for dip powder specifically I would refrain. Anything else, I'm sure they're fabulous at just a little abrasive. First time visiting this establishment. I called prior to going and inquired how much a gel mani-pedi was and was told $60 over the phone. Once I got there with my daughter, I was told that the pedi w/gel was actually $55 dollars. For me that isn't the price range I would like to contribute to. As there are other establishments where gel pedi are 35 and less. I opted to not receive the gel pedi (was disappointment of the miscommunication) so I just received a gel mani, and a regular paint on my feet. I will return as the lady who did my nails was very good and she was pleasant. The facility was clean and followed appropriate Covid protocols. Absolutely NOT recommending this nail salon! This place lacks cleanliness, professionalism, and customer service. The nail technicians have very little experience and don't have the skill set required to be a nail technician. They use the cheapest and worst quality materials, polishes, equipment, etc. For my gel set, they glued clear plastic nails and put a thin coat of gel polish and they call that a gel set. My nails burned from the glue and my nail beds hurt. They robbed me by charging extra for polish, design, callus remover without even telling me the cost upfront. I've never paid $85 for a basic gel pedicure in my life! Not a spa pedicure I'm talking a basic 20 minute pedicure! I felt rushed the entire time. I showed them a reference of the nail design I want and my nails look nothing like the reference. My nails hurt and feel sore. The length and shape is uneven. The owner was no where to be found! Since moving to NJ a few months ago I have been searching for a new nail home. I've only been to Sunny Nails twice but since I haven't returned to anywhere else I've tried - it must be good! I've had two efficient, quality gel manicures (no nail art or anything) and been very pleased with both techs. The salon is clean and decorated in typical salon style. They have wireless and the TV is on but not super loud, it's been on HGTV during both of my visits. Their prices are fair and they've kept my appointment times. Will keep going back. Update 2.9.20: I got my nails done for 15 years in Manhattan/Brooklyn - Marie Nails, Valley, Paintbox, Jinsoon, TenoverTen - and I have never had a better gel manicure than from Ellen at Sunny. My manicure lasts a full 3 weeks and my nails never split at the sides or peel. For a full time working mom, I can't ask for more. read more

Been going here for the past 1-2yrs and decided that my last visit will be my final visit to Sunny Nails. The girls that work there like Gabby are nice, but the owner Ellen can be very rude. I've let it slide a couple times because I understand it is a cultural barrier at times, but last visit was unacceptable. I tried to get the brown chrome nails that's very popular on Tiktok. With the first try from Gabby, the chrome powder wasn't quite the right color because it came out green. When Gabby went to get a different color chrome, Ellen walks over with her and then starts berating me in front of the other customers that I am asking for something that can't be done with the chrome powder. I wasn't even upset or mad about my results I was simply just trying to work with Gabby to see if we can get a closer result to the photos I provided. I wanted to try the white pearl chrome and for some reason she would not even let Gabby try it. I ended up just letting Gabby complete my manicure with the wrong colored powder because I wanted Ellen to stop yelling at me. I understand I'm not a nail professional but I do know it's very unprofessional to handle a situation like this when the customer wasn't even being unreasonable or rude. Many times my manicures came out with gel on my fingers or slightly messy and never let that stop me from returning. But this final manicure was probably the worst I've ever seen (photo included). I've read on other reviews Ellen is extremely strict with cancellations as well. Please avoid the frustration of dealing with Ellen and support a business that actually respects their returning customers. read more

I didn't expect much from the outside of this place but based off the reviews I decided to give it a try. I came to Sunny's on a Friday around noon and was taken right away. Everyone I spoke to was friendly without being overbearing. The gel manicure I got was reasonably priced at $30 and well done. The salon was clean and well maintained without any frills. I found a new nail salon that will be my go-to. Update: Just later the same day that I wrote this review, the gel polish on my finger peeled off completely. No salon around here uses unsealed utensils these days. on top of that, a majority of the employees have poor attitudes. I wanted to wait until I came back to do a review. I came here since a colleague recommended them and I though why not?! My hands, nails and Cuticles looked wrecked and I needed to do something about it. The nail supplement has been helping with nail growth but my cuticles always look chewed when I try to give myself a manicure at home. I made a last minute appointment the first time and was a walk in on the second. Becky was my nail technician both times. I was pretty tired both visits so I wasn't really much for conversation. Becky asked some questions but respected my blank stare at the tv screen above her lol. Both visits were fast(first for new girls and second for fills). She is good at what she does and both times resulted in pretty clean jobs. Have to say that my nails (cuticles and color) were a bit neater at the first visit. Pricing is ok....similar to what it would cost at other nail salons I've visited a while back. I would come back! Update 5/10 - one week after my last gel fill and 2 nails broke. They weren't that long and they were easily bendable. Why is that? I realized I did not have enough coats on them and so they were not strong like the last set done. They're pretty busy and will take walks ins, but avoid feeling rushed or waiting if you can and make yourself some "me" time with an appointment. I'm always pleased with their pedicure services, those ladies do an excellent job every single time! The salon is always very clean and well kept. Cash tip is preferred, and I always forget to carry cash ‍ However, there's a food mart within the plaza, so if you need an atm, just run a few stores down. Wide variety of nail polish colors and salon services such as exfoliants, waxing, etc. Prices are fair to slightly expensive, however, for the service you get, I believe it's worth it. I hardly ever leave reviews and have never left a bad review but I felt this needed to be shared w/others in case it was helpful for them. I also waited a couple of months to write this review to make sure I wasn't reacting in the heat of the moment but I still feel the same. I want to start off by saying that they do great work. They are pricier than other salons but I didn't mind b/c they did good work. They also have non-standard rules. For example, most salons will do three coats for a polish that is thin and transparent after two coats. I asked for a third coat one time b/c of it and was told that they charge extra, which I had never heard of in over 20 years of getting my nails done. I had a gel manicure by one of the nice ladies that worked there (sorry don't remember her name, but she was great) and then went to Ellen for several months for UV gel fills/manis. Ellen does a great job but I had to stop going because she is very rude and downright degrading. She brought me to tears during my last appointment. During every appointment, she talked down to me and was very unprofessional. Honestly, I put up with it b/c I finally found a salon in the area that did good work, but eventually it was too much when at my last appointment she threw her nail file and said "I can't work like this" all because I have a tendency of tensing my hands at times. I don't know why but I was always apologetic to her and did my best to accommodate the working conditions she needed. Yet every time she just got ruder and would talk down to me and embarrass me in front of the staff and other customers. It's one thing to have a bad day but it's another to consistently be unprofessional, rude and condescending. Before going, I had seen a few reviews mentioning her rudeness but I decided to give it a chance anyway and give her the benefit of the doubt.
