Sunny's is incredible and I never go anywhere else. It's not fancy, but it's really clean and everyone is nice. The women who work here are not "I'm in the service industry" nice, they're just honest, kind and really genuine people. They do an incredible job. Best dip powder / SNS manicure in Boston. I've tried three other places for dip (before Sunny's got it two years ago) and Sunny's blew them out of the water. I'm a college student in the Boston area and was looking for a pretty cheap place to get my acrylics refilled. I looked at reviews for this place and it seemed like a place that had just what I needed: cheap(er) services, takes credit cards, and welcomes walk-ins. I did come in on a Wednesday morning so without an appointment I only had to wait about 10 minutes. The women who work here were helpful and nice! One helped me pick out a color for my nails and another helped me by checking my hands after washing them after the acrylic fill was put on. My acrylic refill with cutting was $23 and their full-set is $30. I do wish they allowed tip on the receipt as I had no cash with me and they do not accept Venmo. read more

Sunny Nails- home of the strangest french manicure I have ever seen in my life. I have passed Sunny Nails dozens of times since I moved to Central Square, but only ventured there today for the first time, desperately in need of a quick local mani. Quite honestly, I have avoided Sunny Nails up until now mainly for two reasons. The first- suspiciously high numbers of one star reviews from the Yelp community. Secondly, because the place just stinks to high heaven of acetone, which one can smell yards away, even on a windy afternoon. Not promising. But alas, it is the only nail salon I know of in Central Square, and as I mentioned earlier, I needed some nail love in a hurry. First impressions- the place is an uncomforable lime green, didn't strike me as particularly clean, no A/C or ventilation, and smells even worse inside than it does on the outside. All the nail techs wear face masks, which to me just confirms the dire need of a ventilation system revamp. The tools are all metal, covered in paint spatter, and the tips are dipped in opaque blue liquid to "disinfect", which I haven't seen since the 80's. My nail tech seemed nice enough and did not speak to me, which I rather enjoyed. Now the weird part- he painted all of my fingernails completely white, and then used a paintbrush dipped in nailpolish remover to erase everything but the top lines. In other words, unlike every other french manicure I have gotten in my life, he approached it using negative space. Totally weird, and alot of unnecessary work. The result? A trashy Queens-style sloppy french mani with needlessly thick lines. I am from New York, so I am allowed to write this. On my way to the nail dryer, he did not push my chair in for me, as most good manicurists will do, so I did it myself, creating a little mark on my nail. I showed this to him, and his solution was to simply cover the nail with more pink top coat. Now I have a sloppy Queens-style mani with one nail that is significantly pinker than the others. I would like to add that this did nothing for my little divot, where is still there, taunting me as I type this review with my freakishly imperfect nails. read more

I was a little weary of going here after reading some of the yelp reviews. But I needed a place in Central Square where my friend and I could get lunchtime manicures. I was even more weary when I walked into the joint. It's definitely not the nicest looking place but they have a good selection of polishes and they were able to take us right away despite not having an appointment. My manicurist was very sweet, and the manicure itself was fine - nothing awful or amazing about it. But for 10 dollars, what exactly do you expect? This is not the place to go if you're looking for a spa-like atmosphere. But if you're looking for a cheap place for a quick, cheap manicure, then this is the salon for you. I went in for my "last pedicure" of the summer. Quite a sad event in my year, tragic I'd say. I asked if you could do my manicure and pedicure at the same time since there were easily 5 employees there (all one family). You didn't want to because you were too busy watching Chuckie Strikes Back. Another lady came in who was muslim and didn't want a man to do her pedicure...you didn't want to stop watching Chuckie to do her pedicure. You made her feel incredibly uncomfortable, and me too. Sorry Sunny Nails...you ripped apart my cuticles. They burned every day for weeks. Your calf massage made me almost as uncomfortable as the constant yelling and fighting you all did between each other. My manicure chipped within a day. Never going back :(. read more

Prices are not better than anywhere else in Central Square. They are open a little bit later... walk ins do not seem to be at all welcome, but more of a pain. The ladies though civil seem to be exasperated to see another potential customer come through the door, and I suggest you don't show up with somebody who called ahead and think you can just walk in there and get something yourself - bad move. BEWARE the guy in the back. He gives hand/arm/shoulder massages that are FAR to long and too personal to be received at a NAIL SALON. When I go to get my nails done I expect the focus to be at the end of my fingertips - not somewhere near my shoulders... There are far better places within blocks that you will not be violated while getting a decent mani/pedi. read more

My first visit to Sunny Nails was about a month ago when they fit me in for a gel manicure on a busy Saturday afternoon. It was one of the best manicures I've ever had. I went back few weeks later for my first powder dip. I had called around 6 to see if they could fit me in on a Wednesday night, and they told me to come by in about 20 minutes. I arrived in a panic because just as I got there, I realized I had left the key to my bike lock at my office. I went in and asked if they could wait another 15 minutes for me to go get it, but Tina graciously suggested that I just bring my (rather large) bike in the shop. She then started on my manicure right away and even suggested an accent nail and helped me pick out the color. I should mention that the dip color selection is awesome. Even though it was the end of the night, Tina took her time on my nails and they came out fabulously! I've been trying to grow my nails for years and this was the perfect reward and motivation to keep at it. Plus, the price cannot be beat. I am already looking forward to my next visit :) read more

Cheap: check, ~$35 for both mani and pedi Yes, it's not THE best manicure I've ever received, but it's pretty darn good and about half the price. I am going to review this place for what it is-- a cheap salon that gives you way more than your money's worth. For that, I have to give it five stars. If you want to spend a lot of money for a relaxing time in a more spa-like atmosphere (and probably a lower-quality job), be my guest. I have been here several times for a manicure, shellac manicure, and regular pedicure (not the spa pedicure, but I really want to try it!). The regular manicure is excellent and has lasted me over a week with no chipping. The Shellac manicure is superb and lasts forever as long as you don't chip at it yourself. If you are a busy person who doesn't have time to be dainty with their nails or you're headed on vacation, the Shellac manicure is for you. The pedicures are incredible as well and they spend a long time on you for the price. Great food massage! My only complaints are the decor and that the guy who works there is a bit rough (not as gentle as the ladies). Now, my experience varies GREATLY depending on who my technician is, ranging from just fine to "I smudged all of your toenails and now have to re-do your entire foot, but let me disappear into the back room for 10 minutes first." One review said to ask for 'Tiffany' or 'Christina' and I have a feeling there are a lot of Tiffanys and Christinas and none of them give a crap about the outcome because some tourist is going to come in and take your place. Um, I really hate this place. Went there for the first time last week and will never go again. Here's why ... 1. The place smelled so strongly of acetone and acrylic nails that I almost had to leave, because I thought I was going to pass out. 2. While their selection of colors seemed extensive, when I went and looked more closely there were so many repeats that they could have easily decreased the number of bottles they had by half. Not cool, especially since they didn't have the color I wanted. 3. The woman who did my pedi was actually pretty good, though I thought the massage aspect of it sucked. I mean really, isn't the whole point of getting a pedicure having somebody rub your feet? Well, she did a crappy job, so that bugged me. 4. The guy who did my mani was terrible. He smelled like cigarettes, was rude when I asked him a question, got polish all over my fingers, and cut my cuticles all to hell. I was wary about this place as it only had 3 stars when I looked it up, but they were open later than most places and near my hotel. I had a great time here yesterday getting my nails done. All of the women in the salon are related as it is a family owned business, and I enjoyed how much they seemed to enjoy one another's company. They chatted with me and other customers as well, which is nice. They also had riveting episodes of Criminal Minds playing, which is a nice change from the telenovelas the salons are often playing in salons I go to in Austin. I removed one star because I had to wait 10 minutes or so even though I had an appointment and because my pedicurist dropped a hot towel on my leg. It didn't burn me but it was painful! Worst experience I've ever had at a nail salon (and I should say that this is my first negative yelp review. Ouch.) The person who did my pedicure was rude, consistently showing and talking about my feet with the other pedicurists and actually made me bleed by cutting my cuticle wayyy too much (after I had told her she was hurting me and I did not want to have my cuticles cut at all). I should have probably left after she hurt me the first time, but I really thought that by communicating, she would stop. Sure, I came in with dinosaur feet (I walk literally 5+ hours a day for my job), but I would think that when a customer says "Please--don't cut my cuticles," it would be standard to listen to that request. I can see why people go here--it's cheap, it's quiet and, in the end, my toenails looked alright, but I will never, ever be coming back. read more

I'm actually really surprised this place hasn't had better reviews! I discovered it recently as I've had to run errands in Cambridge and actually got a manicure that lasted more than a week - not once but twice (that has never happened with any of the places I go in Boston). They are always crowded, which can be a little bit of a pain if you're in a hurry, but they seem to be great about taking appointments. There's a good selection of polishes, it's generally pretty clean, and - most importantly - the techs do a really efficent job, taking their time even if it's almost closing time. In fact, the last time I was in there, they let two ladies come in ten minutes before closing, taking their time with them just as they did with the customers who were already in the salon. I was positive the techs would rush and do a sloppy job, but they didn't. Bonus points! If you're in the Central Square area, I highly recommend Sunny Nails. read more

Sunny Nails is a nail salon focused on the end product. Don't go if you're hoping for a spa experience. Expect a couple random moments where you don't really know where to sit or where you're suppose to be. Don't expect a lot of conversation -- your nail technician will probably spend the majority of the time speaking to another nail technician. Now that I've set the correct expectations, here are the good points: -They're about 5 mins from the Central Square T stop -Prices are so cheap! (I'm from Arizona and this is the first nail salon I've been to in the Cambridge/Boston area so maybe this is normal but.. $10 for a manicure?!?! ....and they're the only nail salon on that type near Central Square. This is madness!) -They do a good job. When I leave, my nails look nice, and the people are nice. I wish they would realize that, for new customers, its super awkward to not really have a waiting area. Just throw a cheap bench there or something. The first time I was there they told me to sit in an empty manicurist chair, the second time I sat in one of the chairs by the door. They should focus on being clean and the customer perception of being clean. No one wants to actually take a nail bush out of the barbacide sitting next to the sink (gross). Just get more brushes so every uses a fresh clean dry one, and clean the soiled one's in the back outside of view. Anyways, overall Sunny Nails is convenient, cheap, and they do a ok job. read more

Third time is a consistent charm! I am currently sitting at the 'toenail dryer' at the completion of the, once again, best pedicure I've ever had. This is my third time at Sunny's and each time my pedicures have been amazing. If you're looking to relax and enjoy an actual foot/leg massage that lasts more than 5 minutes, this is the place to come! I have had three different technicians give me a pedicure at Sunny's and each time I have received an amazing massage with my pedicure. I randomly stopped here one day and I was very impressed. My regular manicure was $10 and it was better than some of the $18-25 ones I've had in the area. My manicure lasted about a week with no chips. The shop itself is quite small, so I'd make an appointment if you want to go during a busy time. I'll be back for sure! read more

This place used to be great but I think he management has changed (or at least I don't recognize anyone). I went in for a gel manicure and it started pealing almost immediately. I went back one week later and the new one is peelings again. Plus the manager was rude and didn't believe me when I went in to show them the problem! After my last experience at Sunny Nails, I will never go back. I arrived on a Tuesday morning for a mani/pedi and had to wait ~20 min - which is fine, b/c I didn't make an appointment, but there is no waiting area so my friend and I had to awkwardly sit at manicure tables while we waited. I really didn't enjoy my pedicure - I had an older woman who was very slow, and the painting was fine but I found the "massage" portion really unenjoyable (no pressure, took forever, just felt weird). The manicure was also extremely slow, though my nails themselves looked fine. During the middle of the manicure, though, a drunk man walked in and loudly announced, "I REALLY HAVE TO POOP." None of the staff members acknowledged him or responded to him at first, but they let him use the bathroom and hang out and chat for awhile. I felt really uncomfortable and my technician acknowledged that he was "scary" and said that he comes in every day - but no one does anything about it. Even though I got a cheap mani/pedi that looked fine, the experience was so unpleasant and uncomfortable that I would advise people to go elsewhere. read more

I wish I had read some Yelp reviews before I got a pedicure here! It's true. Dude massages too far up the leg, wildly vigorously. And if you're into that, have at it! But here's the real kicker: he cracked my toes! And even went back for the reluctant ones! That's kind of kooky in my book, and something I haven't experienced since my brother used to torture me growing up. I also wish I had the cojones to get up and walk out when I noticed there was not a drop of Barbicide in sight. The cuticle clippers and such were kept in one of those plastic rice containers - half filled with rice still! Not the most antiseptic material, to be sure. Which explains why, even though my pedi lasted for a while (hence the *two* stars), I ended up with crazily itchy feet within the following two weeks. Ugh! Stopped into Sunny Nails today for a quickie pedicure & was quite pleased with the result. I only had to wait about 5-10 minutes to be seated in a chair and I was impressed with their color selection. Most quickie nail places don't have much variety and always have polish that is sparkly...I found a really pretty color that was sans sparkle- bonus! the pedicure chair was comfortable & had a built-in heated massager, which was really relaxing, and the place seemed clean & busy, bustling with customers. All the pedicure chairs were full (4 in total) and the manicure tables were nearly full, too...they must be doing something right. For $25 the woman who did my tootsies did a great job & was very gentle. The leg massage was great and not too hard & she did wonders with the pumice stone...,my feet are baby soft. While its not the best pedicure I've had in the world...they were thorough, careful and did a really good job. I didn't feel rushed for the chair to open & liked how gentle she was with my feet. Cheap Cons: The guy doing my nails filed my nail so hard I bled and it hurts right now as I type. I like to get designs on my nails, they didn't have a lot of options nor were they sorted out nicely. They were in an altoid box. My feet are still pretty torn up looking, They were scrubbed and all but it's more torn up than when I came in. So it actually looks like a pretty even split. I did eventually find a design I like. And other than that one finger my nails look and feel great.Their English isn't great but they try really hard and are really nice regardless. read more

This place gets an A+ for their pedicures. They really take the time and do an excellent job. That being said, they sometimes take a bit too long. My last mani/pedi took about 2 hours. The manicures however are more like a C-. My nails started chipping within a day and the color really didnt seem like it was applied thick enough. Its $10 though, so whatever. read more

I love this place! It's very professional and clean and the nail techs really know what they're doing. I've had consistently good experience here. My tips would be (1) call ahead to make an appointment (2) pick up a magazine off the counter right away if you want to read one while you're getting worked on, and (3) make sure you have cash for a tip. Personally I think John is an extremely skilled nail tech who knows what he is doing, takes his time, and does a good job, and I'm bewildered by all the reviews that call him creepy. He is very professional. With that said, he does massage a bit higher on the legs that the average nail tech and so you might want to make sure your legs are shaved, don't wear a skirt, etc. Maybe ask for a female if you have personal space issues. It's $25 for a pedicure and you get to sit in fabulous massage chairs. The decor isn't anything special, so if you're looking for "the spa experience" this isn't it. But the chairs, tools, dryer, etc are all perfectly adequate. It's a great place!! read more

This is the place my husband and I go to get our nails done. No, he is not gay he is a musician and gets a fill done to replace his guitar picks. I guess it is your average size. I like it because they know us and are always friendly and are able to fit us in. They have OPI and fancy pedicure chairs. Everyone there does a great job. I'm a fan because it's a neighborhood business. They get the job done and make an effort to accommodate everyone who walks through the door. It's not a large salon, actually it's rather a tight space. The layout isn't ideal, but it works. Walk-ins take a chance especially on a Friday afternoon or Saturday. To be on the safe side, call ahead for an appt. The reason I didn't give 5 stars is that one of the operators isn't terribly f efficient. After you've given me a foot massage, don't decide you need to trim my toenails (badly) again. I also didn't appreciate her coughing into her hand, then picking up the trimmers (I asked her to wash her hands). One of the managers (?) bent over backwards to avoid damage control. The massages with the pedicures are always great, and the staff is very nice/professional. They got new massage chairs recently, which is also a plus. I've been going to this nail since I was 15 and I'm now 23. Every time I get my nails done they're extremely rude and unwelcoming. Depending on the person who does your nails they may do a decent job but the customer service is HORRIBLE! If you want a nice relaxing environment go to a different salon. read more

This was pretty much my first manicure/pedicure, I want to give it five stars for the experience, although I don't have a real frame of reference to go by, but for the record I definitely feel I got a five star service! I called ahead to book my mani/pedi when I read in one of the posts that they prefer that, they were busy but still keen to accommodate me. I work just down the road and they gave me an appointment for ten minutes later, which I felt more comfortable about than going there and being put off by all the chairs being occupied... It turned out that even though they were busy, I got the much coveted Rachel that all the posts talk about, and yes, she was extremely good at her craft, quick but precise. The pedicure was very thorough, which was great, as even though I don't have gross feet, I knew my cuticles could do with some attention. The cuticles in my manicure came out really well too, they don't look angry or sore, and it didn't hurt at all. Their color selection isn't too bad, some of the more multicolored Essie ones though they keep near the window, and a lot of the paints looked like they may have been sun-bleached. I know OPI is the best but I chose Essie in Geranium (a kind of playful appley red) and it came out great, just the finish I had been searching for. As a bonus, all the other clientele in the salon were commenting on how amazing the color looked and were asking me what I had got. I thought I accidentally smudged one of my nails, but actually the ultraviolet nail dryers took care of that and you can't even notice the small dent I made. Sweet. read more

I've been here 3 times now, wanted to wait till I'd gone a few times before I wrote my review, but they have consistently been a great place to get my nails done. It's always just as short as I like it, the job is always clean, and one time I messed up one of my nails, just on my way out, and my manicurist had me come back inside and fixed it right up for me! One word of warning: make sure you use nail polish remover when you're done with the color. Usually I'm too lazy, so I just let the paint chip off on its own time, but they use something here that really really makes the paint stick. Try chipping it off, and it'll take layers of your nail with it! read more
