Did hard gel with a french tip design. The overall spa was tidy and organized, though a bit on the smaller side. My nails were done by Michael, he was nice and it was a pleasant experience. I do think that there could have been more time and care put into prepping the nail before going in with the builder gel. My french tips did start to chip a bit within a week. Overall, it was nearly identical to the inspo pic I had and the price was fair 7/10 read more

My friend and I have been coming to Nail Spa Excel for dip manicures for the last year. It's a great salon. All the nail techs are talented and kind. (I always appreciate joking around with Kevin.) You can tell that the same clients keep coming back, and they're always greeted with a warm welcome. Not to mention Nail Spa Excel has some of the best prices in Somerville. The quality for the price cannot be beat anywhere in the Boston area, and I've tried a lot of salons. Two (gorgeously polished) thumbs up! read more

After 3 weeks of rock climbing, weight lifting, working, etc, my nails didn't budge! They didn't lift at all. Returned to get a new set, & still a 5/5! Lanh was my technician this time, and she was so kind and attentive. She's great company & a great conversationalist. I love how comfortable everyone makes me feel! In terms of the nails, I'm so happy with how she made sure each nail was even. I also appreciate how the dip coats don't look bulky. It seems like a seamless layer. I was going for a more natural shape/length & I was so pleased! It's a bit hard to accomplish a round shape on a shorter length, but she managed to *excel* (haha) at it! Would highly recommend. I walked in, and did not make an appointment and was seen right away. Ultimately not the best mani/pedi that I've had, but also not the worst - especially for a walk in. I've gone to this location twice for a basic pedicure and manicure. I found the quality to be good and the service from the techs to be excellent but I'm deeply concerned by the homophobic behavior of the owner. He evidently doesn't want men in his establishment - he will give you a sour look and makes you wait when there are technicians available. I genuinely like the technicians and is priced well but will never set foot in this location again. read more

I came here last minute before a trip. Usually I'm great at managing my time, but this weird phenomenon happens where I end up having to do 3 million things the day before leaving on a trip. The last time, I had to get my nails done. So, I looked through Yelp and after comparing a bunch of places, decided to try Nail Spa Excel. I called and asked for dip extensions and they were able to squeeze me in just 30 minutes later. They have tons of color options for gel, regular, and dip. Best gel nail experience I've had. I asked for a simple one color and they delivered. Long-lasting with no chipping or peeling for 3 weeks! I had an appointment and was taken care of right away. They had about 5-6 nail techs there that day. Saw a few walk-ins who were also taken care of with minimal wait time. Loved their attention to detail. My nail tech was able to perfectly color match based on an inspo picture for nude nails. Would definitely come back!! read more

I came here before and the customer service us great but the prices are so high for mediocre work. They charge $50 for a full set. I was upset because on top of that the lady did gel polish on acrylic nails for my daughter. We know that costs more and is pointless. Anyway, I got a pedicure. Paid the extra 15 for the mid package and I don't think there was any difference then a regular pedicure. Quite honestly I've had better pedicures for less. They are patient tho and I like that they solved the issue with the gel polish on the full set. My manicure is ok. Initially she was putting on the wrong color, but it was close enough to white that she just added white on top. read more

She gave me exactly what I asked for and made sure to check that I was happy with it after every step. I got a full acrylic set for $55! I got my first ombré dip yesterday and I love them! I don't have my nails done often but I have been here a couple times now and of the places I've gone to have my nails done, Nail Spa Excel has been the better experience. I have gone to other places that charge more and claim to offer nail art, etc but when you ask for what you saw on their website they say they "can't do that". Im guessing it's because they use stock photos from the internet instead of their own as a way to lure people in. While I haven't asked for fancy nail art when I've come to NSE, I've always loved what my nails look like afterwards. I will say the ombré isn't quite what I showed them from the IG photo that I wanted but they are still super cute and I can't stop looking at my hands! read more

Came here for acrylic removal. I called ahead for an appointment. When I went, they didn't even soak my nails, just tried to clip them off and pry the acrylic part off my actual nails. They left my nails completely damaged and as you can see in the photo, the nail on my middle finger was just ripped off as well. It felt like they just wanted to get me out of the chair to free up for other customers. Would not recommend. read more

I made an appointment for 5:30pm on Wednesday and when I got there they said hello-- I greeted them and said I was there for my 5:30 appointment for a regular pedicure. They didn't say anything so I sat down. No one said anything to me for the next 10 minutes. I feel like I made the appointment for nothing. Also, I wouldn't be writing this review if someone had just addressed me and kept me in the loop with how long I was going to wait. I love this nail salon!!!! My daughter and I have been getting our nails done at Nail Spa Excel for several years now. They are extremely clean!!! More importantly, the staff at Excel are kind and friendly. I've seen everyone there. They are ALL good. However, we have a special bond with Kevin and his wife, Nancy. Kevin is AMAZING! I had a great experience at The Nail Spa Excel. My pedicure was perfect--the technician took her time to make sure I was relaxed and happy with the result. Kevin did my nails, and he was fantastic. I got builder gel and had him cut and reshape my nails, and he did an excellent job. The cost was very reasonable, which made the experience even better. Another big plus: parking in the attached lot! The spa itself isn't brand new or particularly beautiful, but it didn't need to be. The quality of service made it well worth the visit. I'll definitely be back! read more

honestly best nail salon i've ever been to. i get full set acrylic and it's sooo efficient and they come out great everytime i always get so many compliments. the nail techs r super communicative and always check in to make sure you like them and are super accommodating if u want to change anything. the acrylics r well shaped and on the thinner side so they look super natural and grow out well. i always get simple designs on my nails and they come out so well. cash is preferred if you have, love it here!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

The place itself is small and cozy but in no way dingy or unclean--the space smells beautiful, looks beautiful (cute decor, bright lighting) and is very well organized. Doesn't have the chaos of a lot of other nail salons and definitely feels a cut above the rest. This place sets a new bar of what a 5-star gel manicure means to me. Helena is masterful in her work and gave me the most beautiful bubblegum/glossy pink, your-nail-but-better look. She was thorough and warm yet efficient, and the end result was perfect. She told me she guarantees her work up to 2 weeks and I think that's a great testament to how amazing her quality is. This was my first time here and it definitely won't be my last.

I got a gel manicure, that could be the difference. The massage chairs look incredible. Let's see how this manicure sets, I'm willing to give it another go.
