I love this place! Kevin, Nancy, Lindsey, Lien, the whole staff is SO friendly! Pedicures are the BEST- they spend so much time massaging your legs, which my previous nail salon didn't do. They have dip for manicures; which is great and at least 2 technicians do the dip. They have a most every color you could think of for dip AND gel. I've had acrylics, gel, dip, and pedi- all with great results. Only once did a nail chip and it was more my fault, haha. I don't know the name of the person who helped me but she skipped the cuticle softening/pushing and the base color that she used (which she insisted was sheer) is a slight sparkly really light pink. I probably should've opted for a single color gel as the photos of those came out better than what I got. Service was ok overall. The place is not the cleanest and I wasn't sure how clean the products were; I think the best way to tell would've been the sanitation of clean products and towels (based on prior experience) but neither was used on my visit. read more

An overpriced amateur job! DO NOT GET YOUR NAILS DONE HERE. I asked for a (normally simple) angled French manicure and this terrible, messy, rushed, painful, inexperienced result is what I got. (See attached photos) Maybe I didn't get the tech other reviewers had a great experience with but even the other techs seemed to know it didn't look good but none said anything. This was my first time going to this place and I came home crying because the old lady there did a horrible job doing a simple gel manicure. my nails ended up being so streaky and there was pieces of lint or hair stuck in my nails and it was painted in my nail. she also completely missed painting near the cuticle and I hate it so much. I did get my nails fixed for free and someone else did it. Thankfully they were super nice and apologized and did my nails again. This is a traditional/basic nail salon with no frills or extra services, which I knew in advance and isn't a negative. The salon was clean and the massage chairs weren't bad. However, making an appointment seems to only guarantee they can take you within the hour; they booked twice as many people for my time than they could actually accommodate. My mani/pedi also wasn't great. First, the manicurist tried to paint over a piece of fuzz that ended up on my nail, instead of removing it. I saw her make a brief effort to pick it off and thought she had, but then I noticed a weird lump with fuzz sticking out (that she was planning to leave as is) and the nail had to be cleaned and fully repainted. The end result looked ok but with some air bubbles, but then the paint wore off the tip of every nail within a day. This is due to improper technique (not chipping or actual wear) and is not what I expected from a $55 mani/pedi at a salon with such a high yelp rating. read more

The mani/pedi is on point and the pedicure chairs are large, comfy, and have great massage capabilities. I love Nail Spa Excel! I came a few weeks ago for a powder dip manicure and was very pleased with the results. I returned today for a much needed pedicure and was excited to find out they offer ombré powder dip as well! Unfortunately I forgot to ask for her name, but the technician did a wonderful job on both my hands and feet. They do regular as well as both gel and dip manicure and a great selection of colors (seems like they are always getting new ones). I have been coming to Nail Spa Excel for quite a few times .The first couple times my pedi and mani were done by a young tech and I really enjoyed it. She was friendly and nice, took her time on cleaning my nails and rubbing my legs. My gel mani lasted up to three weeks . She also gave the best eyebrown wax. The last two times, my mani pedi were done by an older lady and it was not the same at all. She got my pedi done less than 10 minutes. My gel mani was rushed and applied unevenly. She seemed mad and made me feel uncomfortable.I was so disappointed when I left. Over all the salon is very clean , and the chair massage is great. This is my go-to nail salon in the Somerville area. Kevin and his staff are all incredibly friendly and great at what they do. You can tell they love their customers... most people who come in are greeted by name! I've been here before and my gel Mani peeled within 4 days, which I attribute to working in healthcare. But my experience this time was the worst. I thought maybe I could get a Pedi while my car was being detailed down the street. I used my handy-dandy Yelp app which told me this place would be open soon and its walking distance. Cool. I waiting outside until they opened, and no one was there when I arrived at 920a. They arrived @ 925. I saw lights come couple minutes later. But I still waited until posted time to attempt to enter establishment. When I attempted to walk in door was still locked. I was barley greeted, I could tell person did not want to be bothered. Instantly started talking to his female counterpart in their native language. But what they forgot is tone and body language is UNIVERSAL. But she proceeds to tell me to pick a color. I start choosing a color. Another young woman, whom I saw waiting in her car while I was standing outside, walks in and ask for a fullset and they are telling her to come back later. She asking what time she should come back, they weren't giving a clear answer. Then told her to come back at 11. Because they are very busy..(Yall just opened ).. I then ask what are the gel selections and then I am then told to come back at 1030. A whole hour later when I waited outside for them to open?.. No, thank you. I'll take my money somewhere else and tip someone who wanted to come to work today. If they had booked appointments they could have said that and not asked me to select a color, yet say something and kindly ask if I can return at a later time or some type of communication.
