Issue reared it's ugly head once again, and again South Face Solar came out within days of the leak appearing, they isolated the issue, had to cut drywall out of roof, they pressured washed area, reinstalled new links around solar panel legs to prevent leaking and are taking care of the entire issue/problem/cost. Drywall cleanup/repairs. It is amazing to have companies to trust, stand behind their projects and looking to do the right thing. The solar industry has become a racket and most companies contracted with are not the installers, in fact they don't know a lot about the process/needs, South Face Solar does. Corey the owner came out to assess himself, Jeff the lead is an amazing worker/person and a pleasure to have met and talked too. Zach the other worked was always courteous, hard working and even OCD about cleanup, very nice young man as well. In the meantime, my power has been shut off twice for over 3 hours while crews worked--yet the project is still incomplete. Communication has been almost nonexistent. My project manager will reply if I email her directly, but otherwise I receive no proactive updates about progress or next steps. When the field crews finish for the day, they just leave without saying a word. I've been left with panels unscrewed, wide open, and conduit scattered around my yard. Most recently, the electrical crew assured me everything would be finished and turned on--but once again, it wasn't, and no explanation was provided. This has been one of the most frustrating customer experiences I've ever had. I went into this wanting to recommend them to coworkers with new builds, but now I'm warning people to stay away.

Call Rob a few days past his "I'll call you back" day and Rob is out running errands and says they will replace it but I have to pay $650 to install the new unit. Then he says "I gotta go" now it's 2 days later and no Rob, no contact to pay to replace a $13,000 plus system that's not working 3.5 years later. I'm going to contact the better business bureau and the Attorney General because I'm at a loss on how to get a paid in full 3.5 year old system to work again. How does the company that sold it and saying it's under warranty not know how to fix the problem? Shame on you Rooftop Solar. In the past 2 weeks I have had 4 dead birds fall out onto the side yard and clear damages I'm hoping gets cleaned up prior to the netting install. All of this could be avoided with a thorough company that took pride in their work. Scott Czosnyka was my rep and I could not say enough good things about him. An excellent guy who is great at what he does. It was a pleasure working with him.

Aaron who is the Owner told me at first that he would have it fixed for free since it was under a full Warranty. Months went by and he finally got back with me and told me that only the part was covered but not the Labor. So he flat out lied to me. I told him okay and to do the warranty repair and that I would pay for the labor. Months went by again and I was not happy. I tried contacting him numerous times and he never answered his phone. There is no business address and no e-mail either. So he never answered his texts or voicemails from then on so he could avoid me. I constantly called him and he totally blew me off. This is not a brick and mortar business and he is the only Employee as he using sub contractors for EVERYTHING. His number is #480-744-1803. Be aware and go somewhere else. I don't think so because they found soft spots during the installation. Not relevant. Not a problem with Alternative Energy. They were NOT the ones that originally installed it. Fast forward 2 years later. I have to replace my roof, so off with the SUNPOWER panels. I received a few bids. Didn't go with the lowest bid. Didn't go with a specialty company. Didn't go with the roofer's recommendation. I went with an authorized SUNPOWER dealer. Mistake. My roofing company inspected the roof prior to the solar detach. He made an estimate which included all the broken concrete tiles at the time. I don't remember the number but it was estimated to be under a dozen. Any additional tiles would be included in his price to me. He had no incentive to charge me for the tile later. He knew what was broken. THE DETACH AS THEY CALL IT. Alternative Energy LLC was scheduled to start work at 8 AM. Still sleeping at 5:30 AM, I hear someone on my upper deck outside our unlocked bedroom door. That's just stupid. You do not enter a property and climb on somebody's deck without permission at 5:30 AM. Stupid and dangerous. They proceeded to remove the 36 panels. Nobody asked where to place them. They piled them against the wall in a dirt and gravel backyard. Cables with IP rated connectors were left exposed to the elements. It rained. I'm sure some cable connectors were filled with rain water. While working on the roof, a toolbox slid off the roof and landed between me and a neighbor. Zero warning. Could have killed someone. You'd think somebody would have yelled lookout. All I got was a head peeking over the edge of the roof. After they were gone, I found the breaker panels open, screws, and installation prices in my planter boxes. ROOFING BEGINS My roofer started his work. He found DOZENS of tiles that had been broken. They would have to be replaced at his expense. They are no longer available and color matching is impossible. The new tiles were placed under the location of the solar panels. The roofer completed his work. Highest quality. 5/5 rating. He left a pile of 42 tiles stacked in front of the house "just in case" because he was going to inspect the roof after the panels were reinstalled. He knew there might be issues. He wasn't wrong. THE ATTACH. What is DETACHED must ATTACHED. I notified Alternative Energy the roof work was complete and the panels needed to be attached. I also notified them by email that they better put on their best game this time because I was not pleased with the DETACH. Maybe it would have been a good time for the management to get in touch with me, right? Maybe they should have sent a manager to the site to inspect, right? Crickets. This time they scheduled a 5 AM start. No mysterious people on my deck unannounced. During the day, the pile of 42 tiles was diminished to 14! Didn't have the courtesy to ask if they could have them. They were breaking tiles like they were potato chips. My perfect new roof is being destroyed by supposed professionals. They can't walk on concrete tiles without breaking dozens of them? In addition to 28 verifiable broken tiles, they probably used another dozen from the ones removed and replaced by the special SUNPOWER brackets that replace the tiles. Not keeping an exact count but somewhere around 50 tiles gone. Hmm. Do these people even know how to replace a tile properly? What about the rest of the work being done to my new roof? Brackets drilled and attached? It's not comforting. All done and wrapped up. I can't go on the roof to inspect the work. Not a fan of ladders and heights and this is a second story installation. They left saying it was working. Barely it proves. I walk down the street. I have the only solar installation in the neighborhood where the panel edges do not align. It's visible. Some appear to be higher by 1/2" - 1". They were perfectly aligned before they touched them. Worse. They are filthy! They were placed in the yard for almost 2 weeks collecting dust and then rain. They put them back on the roof in that condition. Guess what? Solar production is down over 10% when at this time of year it should be increasing. Why? Dirt! My neighbor across the street commented on the misalignment and the dirt. It's ugly. COMPLAINT TO MANAGEMENT. This all came down Saturday. Monday I composed a message to the company highlighting everything in this review. They had the nerve to ask me to send photographs to support my claims. Can you imagine? I told them I was not their photographer and how about they send over a manager to take a look. I still have dirty solar panels. I have misaligned solar panels. I have reduced solar output. Green Muscle installed my solar and Powerwall on December 31st. They sold it as a single day…read moreinstall because my system supposedly wasn't complex. What actually happened was weeks of touch and go work by several different techs before the system did what I was told it would do when I signed the contract. The crew showed up on time that first day. Joseph, the lead, showed up an hour late. At the end of the shift he made a point of complaining about staying late, which was him making up the hour he'd missed, and they wouldn't stay the two hours it would have taken to actually finish. The job got left unfinished and my Powerwall got left sitting outside uncovered. They had to send a tech back out on a separate trip just to put the cover on it, and this was during a stretch when we were getting scattered showers. Before the install I told Andre, my project manager, that I didn't want panels anywhere roof vents would put shade on them. They installed two right next to a taller vent anyway, so depending on where the sun was, one or the other sat in shade for part of the day. If you're looking at a string inverter system, this matters much more than it sounds like it should. Panels on a string are wired in series, so the entire string produces at the level of its weakest panel. A single shaded panel doesn't just cost you that panel's output, it drags down every panel on the string for as long as the shade is there. That's the whole reason I brought it up before they started. They ended up having to come back out and relocate both. The backup is the part I'd want anyone considering this company to read. I never asked for anything less than whole home backup, not one time, and I signed on the assurance that my whole house would run on solar. What was actually written into the contract was partial, essentials only backup. When I raised it, nobody at the company could trace back a single piece of communication showing how that decision got made or who made it. Then after the install it came out that the solar couldn't see any load that wasn't on the backup panel, which meant most of my house was never going to run on solar the way it had been described to me. Their answer to that was an energy monitor. I spent weeks troubleshooting it before we established that it could only see half of my EV charger's draw, so it was never going to solve anything. Their next proposal was to move the charger onto the backup panel and bill me for the whole home backup that should have been scoped correctly in the first place. They had also missed my HVAC controller. So when the power went out, my air conditioning went out with it and roughly 90% of my house sat dark in the middle of the day at peak solar production. In Arizona. That is the single scenario this system exists to prevent. I also ended up running the entire interconnection process with my utility, ED3, mostly on my own. Coordinating with the power company is squarely a project manager's job, and honestly it was one of the specific reasons I wanted a company that assigns a dedicated PM to every install. Andre was AWOL for that whole process. I was the one tracking where things stood, following up, and keeping it moving. Beyond that, Andre kept telling me things were normal when they clearly were not, and nothing got resolved unless I pushed for it myself. At one point he forwarded me a reply asking for a photo I had already provided in that same email chain. When it escalated, Brett, one of the owners, asked me why I had agreed to a partial backup, which put his own company's scoping error back on me, and then told me he'd lose money covering the whole home backup because of how far out I live. Most of those trips he was counting were rework his own team created. I chose Green Muscle in part because every job gets a dedicated project manager. That turned out to be the weakest part of the entire experience. The system works now, months later, and only because I wouldn't let it go.
