We drove down for a day trip from San Diego. This spot would have been a stunner if it was a sunny day, but we didn't get so lucky. Nonetheless, the tacos and margs made up for it. It was part of our cruise tour to Ensenada, the day Was Cloudy overcast but nice, unfortunately We had the Tacos and Margaritas package, and went in last , the people that only had the beach Club was not only able to get Day beds But to order Food and Drink's at the tee and limited day beds, which was Very Disappointing, but we made the best of the day we stayed in the outdoor patio restaurant, our waiter was awesome!!! Very friendly awesome personalized service The tacos and the margaritas were to die for, we ordered Extra margaritas beyond our package, and still managed to get burnt under the clouds. Great private beach, the techno music was great . Too short of a stay with the cruise But we'll work the hour plus drive Into town and back, our tour guide was very amusing and attending, however he told us about the " Ceviche " They did not Carry Any at all , they had Lots of Japanese dishes lol not very many Mexican flare dishes which was disappointing. Beautiful scenery. There was a mariachi and dj playing house music. The kitchen was delayed however, the service was attentive and they gave us complementary appetizers for the wait. Totally DISAPPOINTED! I've been coming here for the last 8 years and always enjoyed this restaurant. Yesterday was terrible! None of my party of five liked their food. I was appalled at the lack of quality and have been there twice in the last year when it was good. The drinks were the worst I've ever experienced anywhere. My Cadillac margarita advertised to have grand marnier. Nope! They put orange juice it so all you could taste was that. No taste of alcohol. Not a lick. The chef salad was no chef salad! A bag of greens poured into a bowl and only vinegar as a dressing. No veggies. The guacamole advertised coming with pico de gallo. Nope, just mashed avocado with no seasonings. The shrimp taco I'd rate 3 out of 10. Shrimp not even deveined. Who wants to eat cooked shrimp ca ca? And NEVER order the churros. Size of a small thumb and looked liked fried doo doos. I'm serious! The location is awesome. It's so beautiful and relaxing. They have a few cabanas on the beach where you can lay out and it's a hidden little beach so you have a little privacy. The food was ok. Horrible service. We went in yesterday for breakfast/brunch and arrived at 11:00am. We got our drinks 3 coffees and 3 orange juices but after waiting 40 minutes, the waiter said it would be another 20 minutes because they were still serving the other tables that arrived before us. So we got refills on our coffee and waited. We saw several customers leaving upset over never getting their food. We should have left then but we stayed cause we didn't want to drive since we were staying nearby. So we stayed to enjoy the beach front view and the coffee. Then 20 minutes later, the waiter said it would be another 20 minutes. He also said he ran out of regular coffee and could not serve us any more refills unless we ordered a cappuccino or expresso. What? At this point, the kids were starving. After waiting 20 more minutes, we decided to leave and that's when our food started to arrive 2 plates at a time. Our party was 3 adults and 3 kids. I ordered red chilaquiles but got green chilaquiles because they ran out of red sauce. The beans were cold and the green sauce was disgusting. For the kids we ordered 1 order of pancakes & bacon and 2 French toast orders. Their food was okay. At the end we finished all our food and my sister never received her order so she ate the kid's leftovers. We complained to the server several times about never receiving my sister's food and he kept apologizing but we still saw plates of food being delivered to other tables. Don't come here unless you want to wait 2 hrs for your food and still not get all your food. There are plenty of nice beach front restaurants in Rosarito. read more

Have stayed at Castillo's Del Mar many times and visited this place for their food on almost every trip. This time now that it is more of a beach club and venue they have gone bougie! The hotel is still run down. They're trying to be and upscale resort and the food was nothing like I've had in the past. The taste was whatever and very small portions. They're more focused on the presentation for the Instagram worthy post, I guess. I won't be back and won't recommend it to my friends anymore either. All I recommend are the views. read more

And, when they finally arrived, the drinks had no alcohol but they charged us for them as if they did. One of the members of our party, fluent in Spanish, spoke to the manager. She could not care less. She took 20% off the bill. Had we been in Las Vegas, the meal and the stay would have been comped (free). Oh, one last thing, the benches where you sit do not have padding and the wood actually sweats sap from the heat of the sun. The sap completely ruined our pants. Came here from our Ensenada Cruise from San Pedro, Ca. We did the tacos and margaritas package which was really awesome! My favorite was the carne asada tacos. I also love the fact that they have Japanese food options. I ordered the clam chowder which was delicious! Our waiter was really nice and we could tell he was trying hard to make a good impression. We gave him a generous tip. The only reason why I rated a 4 is because the foods came way after the drinks and if you go on an empty stomach and drink margaritas you'd probably get pretty sick, as two of the younger guests that came on the charter bus got drunk. It was a mess! So, I think that if the restaurant were quicker in making the foods, and make sure that the foods and drinks came at the same time, or at least quick enough, the experience would be much better!!!!! We came last night for drinks (they make a tasty margarita, and have reasonably priced beer). And, this morning, came for coffee. It was so peaceful and quiet. Then I tried the ceviche Tostadas and I love fish more than life, but they were inedible. Decided the next evening to try non happy hour stuff and tried the shrimp/al pastor tacos. They were pretty good after waiting 45 minutes and only 10 people there. I ordered room service one morning of chiliquiles rojos con huevo and they came and were ice cold and the cheese was moldy. All of this in my 3 or 4 interactions with the club, plus they overcharged me twice and neglected to bring me back my change so I could to them, just decided to keep it all and made for quite the embarrassing situation. read more

The guy pouring the champagne was rude he would fill the flute 1/3 of the way and we kept asking for a full pour because it's ridiculous for us to come back every five minutes. He declined to actually fill our champagne glasses (we were speaking to him in Spanish). The food was gross at the buffet only the personal pizzas were good. We ended up paying our cabana waitress to keep getting us champagne because that was the only way to get a full pour. It took over and hour for the food to come, the when it did we just laughed! Small puny tacos in a corn tortilla with a slice of red onion on top of two pieces of shrimp. No cabbage, sauce, nothing and of course they were cold. The hamburger was a joke, they served it on white sandwich bread, yes I said that right, white sandwich bread. Yuk! It was so soggy and gross I just took it apart and ate the meat which was super salty. I would have ordered something else but they kept telling me "were sorry we don't have it today" needless to say I won't order lunch food from there again. On a positive note, the views were amazing, staff is great and drinks were yummy just don't order lunch here, at least on a Tuesday. Got to be the best beach in Rosarito. The setting for Sunio's is totally unique and a lovely way to spend a sunny afternoon. The food is too inconsistent to give them a better rating. I had shrimp tacos which were very good, my friend had a hamburger which she said was terrible. We've been back a few times and love the atmosphere and have learned which menu items to stick with. Well worth the effort. If you order a margarita, but sure and order it au natural...fresh lime, Controy and tequila. Very good made that way. We didn't order our first margarita that way and it was a mix that was too sweet. Once of the coolest things about Sunio's is visiting on a hot day and sitting in beach chairs at the water.
