Sundays -- Katy/Houston, TX
New spot alert!
Saturday night we were looking for somewhere close to home and came across Sundays. It was only about 8 minutes away, so we said, "Why not?" And I'm SO glad we did!
First impression: easy parking, immediate greeting, immediate seating, and a whole VIBE once you walk in.
There are TVs everywhere, so you can watch sports while you eat and drink. We watched boxing, the decor is nice, there's a big bar, and the atmosphere is comfortable and casual. You don't have to get dressed up to enjoy yourself here.
SERVICE: 10/10
Our waitress Jimmy was AMAZING!
There were probably 5-7 tables occupied when we arrived, and she was handling ALL of them by herself. And somehow, she kept everything moving!
She took our order, checked on us, answered our questions AND actually educated us about the menu. I literally wanted to give her a raise!
DRINKS
Sidecar:
Strong, delicious and definitely worth the $16-$17. That drink was doing its JOB!
I also had the Hennessy Lemon Drop, but surprisingly, it cost more than the Sidecar. So next time? I'm sticking with the Sidecar!
He had the Old Fashioned, but here's a tip: ASK what bourbon they use before ordering. They use Bulleit as their house bourbon, and it wasn't his preference. If you have a favorite bourbon, tell them what you want.
WHAT WE ATE
Lemon Pepper Wings -- YES!
These were SO good. We ate those things UP!
Shrimp & Grits:
The grits were delicious! I chose the fried shrimp because I usually have grilled shrimp with shrimp & grits and wanted to try something different. Fried shrimp just wasn't my personal preference. Next time, I'm getting grilled shrimp. That's on me--not the restaurant.
Fried Chicken Thigh + Mac & Cheese + Greens:
Now THIS plate was a winner!
Chicken -- great size and that crust was PHENOMENAL.
Mac & Cheese -- cheesy, piping hot and exactly what you want mac & cheese to be!
Greens -- had bacon in them and were SO GOOD. Definitely one of my favorites!
THE VIBE
We went on Saturday, and they had R&B playing, which I loved!
Around 9 PM, the music switched over to some good ratchet music. So just know that later in the evening, you're getting more of an adult/nightlife vibe, including some explicit lyrics.
We arrived around 7 PM because we're early birds, and by the time we left around 10 PM, the crowd was definitely starting to come in.
They also told us brunch gets really busy, and the restaurant picks up after 9 PM.
WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Plenty of parking
Casual dress is fine

If you want a quieter experience, go earlier
WHAT I'D ORDER AGAIN
Definitely:
Lemon Pepper Wings
Mac & Cheese

And next time I'm trying the grilled shrimp & grits!
FINAL THOUGHTS
I'm always excited when I find a new spot close to home that actually has good food AND a vibe.
And the fact that it's only 8 minutes away means I'll definitely be back!
Whether it's for dinner, drinks and appetizers, brunch, watching a game, or just somewhere to hear some good music and hang out, Sundays is going on my list of places to revisit.
Katy needed another spot with a little flavor, food and nightlife energy--and I'm glad Sundays is here.
Give them a try and let me know what you order! read more
