It's kind of hidden in the back side of the downtown area but their specialty this month (July/Aug) was a caramelized peach with pecans over sweet cream ice cream! Sundae makes small-batch artisan ice cream and has been here in Vail Village for over 5 years. They make a number of classic sundaes here in addition to scoops of ice cream in a cone or cup. Some choices are banana split, strawberry shortcake and chocolate peanut butter. They also have some coffee drinks on hand. I was craving an ice cream and this place delivered. Friendly service, clean, and delicious ice cream. It's like a Coldstone, meaning you can mix toppings in the ice cream (opposed to on top). When I went to pay, the machine asked if I wanted to leave a tip (not vocally). I have always been a generous tipper, but this new thing where the machine asks if you want to leave a tip leaves me in some awkward situations. On one hand, they weren't serving me in any way. On the other hand, they did mix my ice cream (M&Ms and rainbow sprinkles). After not tipping and feeling not great about it, I asked the girl if she receives tips more or less than 50% of the time. I was so appalled by the lack of friendliness at this shop. Before I went in, I was outside waiting for someone, and the male employee there (ponytail/baseball cap) stepped out the store and started yelling "if you had this milkshake, where are you?!". He proceeded to roll his eyes, huff and puff, then ask me to repeat myself again. I am not a mumbler! I pointed to the flavor and the one scoop bowl. He asked me if I wanted a cup or cone, and I pointed again to the one scoop bowl. I told him I am pointing at the cup on display not the cone.... And wow, what an Inconvenience I caused him by even asking for what I wanted. I could care less if a server doesn't say hello or smile, but to talk back and eye roll?! They also provide helpful flavor recommendations. - Ice cream: Sundae has a great combination of classic and unique flavors. On my most recent visit, the flavor of the month was green tea creme brulee, which I enjoyed with their classic salted cookies & cream flavor. You can get two flavors in their single scoop size, which is much appreciated! They have quite the selection of topics, which you can get mixed into your ice cream. They also have grab-and-go ice cream sandwiches, pints, and ice cream cakes. - Value: For the quality of ice cream and since you can do split scoops, I think $5 is a reasonable price for a single scoop, especially in Vail Village.
