they sold me the perfecting primer and then did not give it to me. I got it after my spray tan but that of course was too late. Very disappointed for the money I spent. read more

I absolutely adore this locations staff! They're always so welcoming, educated on the newest lotions and best ones to recommend for your preferences (tingle, no tingle, best for tattoos etc) This location is always clean and tidy, as well! read more

Thank you to the rude brown haired woman at the counter, for ruining my experience and rest of the day with her snotty attitude, and negative helpfulness. thanks to the one nice girl, who told me what she needed to nicely, and said have a nice day as I walked out, while the other stared at me with the same rude look. hope that's not the manager! read more

Overall Sun Tan City has competitive pricing for their tanning packages, however as the saying goes "you get what you pay for". Other tanning salons I've been to have amenities in the rooms such as extra towels, small garbage cans, spray deodorant, etc. It doesn't seem like much, but the attention to detail at other salons did not go without notice. Also, I purchased a tanning lotion that did not agree with my skin or my tanning goals and I was not able to get an exchange or refund despite the Sun Tan City website FAQ's stating "Can I exchange my sun tanning lotion? Absolutely! Returns and exchanges are always simple at Sun Tan City. We think you will find our 60-Day Exchange Policy to be both friendly and convenient." My request was well within 30-Days let alone the 60-Day policy. It's unfortunate, but needless to say I won't be a return customer. Thank you! read more

They will intice you with a welcoming advertisement, but in all reality, it's a huge scam. I have read several reviews about the same subject about how they "get you" your signing on a pad that you don't know what you are signing, on top of it all they get you in with that low fee but you can never leave, they are taking that Eagles song Hotel California, seriously!! They will keep charging you no matter. Do not fall for this! I love the beds and easy locations, that's about it, so that's why I gave 2 stars. It's sad that you can not just bring people in with no hidden agenda. It's sad that they have to give their blood 1st born to get a tan. read more

I hate this location. Worst customer service ever! The girls are rude and need training. One in particular has given me wrong information about three times. Once was regarding my membership plan. She answered questions as if she knew exactly what she was talking about and I later found out she was completely wrong. I went in the other day and asked for a bed with a mister THAT WORKS. The beds are old and not maintained well at this location so not every mist bed functions properly. That in itself is a problem. SAME GIRL assured me that number one fit the bill. So once I get situated, I'm in the bed I realized there isn't even a mister function on this bed!! When I was leaving, I said -hey by the way, that bed doesn't even have a mister in it. Zero apology from this girl. Just a stupid look on her face and some dumb... "Oh really?? well I thought it did" reply. read more

Total scam. Wouldn't let my wife cancel since she hadn't been a "member" for at least a month. Which of course means you're charged for two months of a package minimum. Then to add insult to injury my wife was told that canceling the second month after paying $70 was immediate (she could no longer use the package she paid for this month). Consumer beware. read more

Went in tonight at 6pm to tan and was told they couldn't allow me to tan because I tanned the night before at 730pm they said it hadn't been 24 hours yet. This is ridiculous when I was within 90mins and was there yesterday! read more

Buyer beware! Deceptive business practices with their trick pricing. They advertise a simple and convenient return/exchange policy but I found this to be untrue as well. Blind signature pads - you don't know what you've signed until later when it's used against you. Unwilling to refund or negotiate and will not provide escalation path to achieve resolution. I have never had such a weird and complicated tan purchase experience anywhere. It's TANNING - it's supposed to be easy! Sun Tan City will scam you out of your tans and your money and try to convince you that it's all your fault for not knowing how their deception works. Never returning here. read more

i havent actually gone yet but i don't understand why it is impossible to speak to a living human on the phone ever

Sick of resembling a fish's belly? Tired of your friends accusing you of glowing in the dark? I was so I came in here to add some color to my previously pastey body. This is a tanning salon. No matter how you dress it up it has one function-- making pale bodies less pale. I went in here determined to beat the Seasonal Affective Disorder blues and the sales girls got me to buy far more than I'd intended. Be careful with them! They are all very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful and it makes you want to buy things... their lotion is DEFINITELY over priced but the actual tans are cheap, especially with their promotions that they switch up practically daily. The grass is always greener and the promotion they offered a week after my fate was sealed gave me a bit of buyer's remorse haha They have three tanning tracks or bed styles-- Fast, Faster and Fastest. Fast is good enough for us regular folk but occasionally you'll have to upgrade to faster to make sure you don't look like a zebra when you lift your arms-- the stand up is 'Faster'. I was feeling a little saucy one day and decided to try the Fastest bed... omg it's like Star Trek in there. The bed itself is beautiful (yes, I just said a tanning bed was beautiful. Who doesn't like shiny well-lit things?) and it is sooo comfortable. I'd make a terrible soldier because I can't sleep in strange places and it takes me forever to conk out... I was out within five minutes in this baby. The lights keep you so cozy and warm and the air conditioning feature on the bed (yes, it is AIR CONDITIONED) makes you feel just as comfy as you do when you flip your pillow over at night so you can nuzzle into the cold side or pop a foot out of your blanky to hit the cold-warm sweet spot. I now use my upgrade points to get into the Fastest bed far more often than a person educated enough to have heard the words "skin cancer" before should. The Fastest is totally customizable and wonderful but I still love me some good, old-fashioned Fast bed (in the early morning before a thousand previously-pale people have overheated it). It's like a personal sauna without the humidity. I'm not loyal to this location since I work all over Des Moines and never know which one I'll be next to. I do love the staff at this spot, but duty calls. That was what made me choose Sun Tan City-- there are a bajillion locations and you can go to any you like with your membership. Each location has the same beds (I think, don't quote me) and the same tracks. Just heed the warning and go in there with a budget in mind or you'll end up spending farrrr too much money! Thanks to this place I have a pretty little heart on my body that is much paler than the rest of me and the winter blues haven't kicked in yet! I shall return. read more

Great place! Friendly & knowledgeable staff. I have not been tanning for awhile & I got a tan line my first time! Great beds! Thanks

Got my first spray tan there a few weeks ago, in September. It went fairly well and the staff was very nice and helpful explaining it to me. However after it dried, the next day I had the worst streaks on my forearms. They were very orange too, unlike the rest of my body. After asking a friend about it she said she had the same issue from this location previously. Would not recommend going there for a spray tan. read more

I have been going to Sun Tan City for a few years now. It is close and convenient. However, after venturing out to the Merle Hay Location and seeing what their beds are like, the beds at Sun Tan City 50th are gross. Im not one to complain but its ridiculous. First of all the beds say "Tan World" which means these are very outdated beds, as this has not been "Tan World" for quite some years. Second of all, the beds are dirty. There are hair and fuzz balls underneath the glass, on the top and on the bottom. The bulbs are sometimes flickering and the face lamp, if you turn it off and back on it will take sometimes 90 seconds to power on. Sometimes half of it turns on and then the other half follows. I use the "Faster" bed. So I believe these are very common beds used in this salon. This is in West Des Moines, and is a very busy Tanning Salon, and I think its ridiculous they have not done updating. My friend works there and says how people complain often about the crappy beds. I think there is plenty of revenue to upgrade these beds, and if not I'm considering leaving, because I'm tired of looking at different women hair and fuzz balls in my bed. read more
