Planned this vacation through Sun Realty over two years ago with my father. He passed a way in August, and wanted us to make the trip in his memory. We rented the PI-2 property. All I have to say is that this week was the worst experience I have ever had in the obx, me and my family have been coming here for years and never have experienced anything like this. Let me start with the property... spiderwebs, and dust everywhere. It's like they put the linens on and left. There were two active hornets nests in the screened in porch (with 3 screens missing). The dishwasher has dirty dish water in the bottom and stunk like crazy. Looked like it had been there for weeks. The refrigerator did not work. We followed the instructions let it sit overnight...did not get cool. Spoke with the maintenance person. And said someone could not get there until Monday, we checked in Saturday.... they came confirmed everything. And went to buy two new units. 3 hours later they return. They first take the dishwasher out... I remind you, it's full of old dirty dish water... they didn't even drain it, they drug it out on its side and the water went everywhere in the kitchen in the dinning room. On to the refrigerator, they bring the new one in... I take all of our groceries out... they remove the old one and try to put the new one in its place... they didn't measure the space. And the new fridge didn't fit. So they insisted on cutting 3 inches of counter space and floorboard to get it to fit. Barely.... so now I have wasted a full day of vacation and I have old dirty dish water and broken counter pieces littering the kitchen and the maintenance crew left the water all over the floor and I had to use out bath towels to clean it up. On to the rest of the house... our fireplace never worked and we waited all week for the gas company to come fill it. The manager Floyd lied to me on the phone now Wednesday saying the gas company filled the tank and CAME INTO OUR HOUSE to light the pilot.. I was out with my wife and Floyd was under the impression no one was in the house. Well, the rest of my family was in the house, and they confirmed no one came in to the house. When I called Floyd out on it, he said he was given wrong information and that the gas company would not be out until the following Monday... so apparently some other guy went to a "different house" said Floyd. Now. The television. When we arrived Saturday our tv worked fine. By Sunday night. We only had 10 local channels. In all the rooms. I called the office and let them know and they said it would be resolved he next day. We didn't get our television back for the remainder of the vacation. We were told Wednesday that it was absolutely taken care of. Another lie told by Floyd. The absolute worst week I have ever had in the obx. I will never rent through Sun Realty again. Ever. read more

We rented the property called "Salmon Shores" in section H of Ocean Sands. The property itself leaves a lot to be desired - the furniture is old and smells of pet and cigarette odors, and the house was not clean when we checked in. The jacuzzi is in the car-port. The pool was dirty and not cleaned the entire time we were there. We also had several issues where Sun Realty added extra fees to our reservation: pet fee (we do not have a pet), cleaning fee (two weeks before our check in date!). Every time we called the office, the woman there (Kyzie) was very rude. All of our complaints to Sun Realty have gone unanswered. We've been vacationing in the outer banks for years, and this is by far the worst experience we've had renting a house. read more

If I could rate NO stars, then I would. We have been vacationing in the Outer Banks since 1980, multiple times a year, and have NEVER had such a terrible experience with our rental company. The house was not clean, the fridge was broken, and we are reasonable people and understand that this type of thing can be overlooked or can happen to anyone. However, the thing that made the situation so appalling was the customer service... or lack there of, really. They were completely unaccommodating, extremely rude, and had no sense of urgency to help us at all. We checked in on Saturday and did not receive a replacement fridge until Tuesday. Instead we had someone arrive on Sunday to turn on our fireplace, and it was 70 degrees outside, and we couldn't turn it off, so we had to call them back out, while having to open all of the windows because we were melting, as was all of our food in our coolers. When we initially called and told them that our house was not clean, they considered us liars and took on a completely rude disposition. Whatever happened to customer satisfaction?? Not to be nit-picky, but when toothpaste remained in the sink, the toilets were obviously dirty, the countertops were filthy, the beds had sand on them, and I could go on... but those are the type of things we expect to be cleaned when we check into any sort of facility. We should not be having to live in someone else's dirt. In any case, we've heard wonderful things about the Sun Realty offices in other OBX locations, however the Corolla office we've recently found the same sort of feedback. I'm sure they're fine if there aren't any issues. However, if you decide to use them, I hope you don't need any kind of help from any of the employees. They are careless, rude, pompous, and lacked any sense of urgency to help resolve our issues. I can't even really emphasize how appalled we were by the entire encounter with Sun Realty of Corolla. If that isn't enough, they do nickel and dime for EVERYTHING. Things that we were always used to being included with other rental companies, they charge. They may advertise for WiFi at the rental home, however, when you get there, you discover that it costs an additional $45 to have it activated, and then it isn't guaranteed to have good reception. May I suggest Southern Shores Realty. In 30 years, and well over 90 times of going thru them, we've never, NEVER encountered this sort of situation. read more

Great start to our vacation. Unfortunately, when we had some trouble with our place (air conditioning couldn't keep up with he heat - house is at 87 degrees!) the problems started. On day , it was "we'll put a service call in and call you if there is a problem". No service call...on day two, I called in the AM and it was "let me see - we put a call in to the owner and it looks like they called us back. No call back to me. I called at 5 pm with the house at 87 degrees. "Let me call the company, and get back to you" to which I responded that at the minimum, I expected a window unit to be put in to give me some relief. It's 6pm - their offices are closed, and I'm going to have to initiate contact for a 4th time. Sorry Sun Realty, but chasing you around is not my idea of a relaxing vacation! read more

Deceptive presentation by sun realty has me writing this review. Renting a house from them in Corolla Light Resort which is beautiful but house is adjacent to construction site with construction commencing early morning including Father's Day, debris blowing into our property, workers within handshake distance, view is not pleasant. We were never told that construction would be going on and never would have rented this property had we known which I assume is why renters are not told. Have contacted sun realty 4 times and no response. I also alerted them that ceiling fan does not work and ice maker is not working in freezer. Also arrived and grill was not cleaned at all. Those things not a big deal but lack of response from sun realty is. First time visiting Outer Banks - we love it but will be using different realty company in future. read more

Sun Realty - View from our rental - Property Management Near Me - Corolla, North Carolina

The purpose of this review is to express my extreme displeasure and anger concerning our recent rental property under the control of Sun Realty in Corolla N.C. in the outer banks. Our family had been planning a 25 year reunion for the better part of one year. Through a family friend whose house we rented in Corolla but would not accommodate the entire family of 23, we booked the house directly across the street for family convenience. As we were approaching OBX on the day of arrival from Florida, I received an email from the assistant rental manager Sun Realty/ Corolla to contact them concerning our reservation. I immediately called them only to be informed that our house that we booked and paid for was no longer available. Needless to say I was extremely upset with this news since our entire family were enroute from all parts of the country including California, New York and Florida. I was then passed on to the general manager who I immediately asked the question, "How did this happen when I booked this property in October of 2017". His response was it never does, I then stated that it happen to us and what was he going to do the correct the situation. His response was that they had located another house just one and a halve blocks away from our house, when in fact it was over a mile in distance. He also stated that the house rented for more money, when in fact checking their website, it was about the same price. Because of Sun Realty, our family lost the convenience of walking across the street to the larger house for family gatherings and meals. Until the management of Sun Realty corrects the apparent problem in their rental system, I would highly recommend that one use another rental agency when booking rental property in the outer banks. read more

I don't know how Sun Realty even gets 1 star..We had problems the minute we checked in to our rental. There was no cable, phone or internet. The asst.mgr. said in the fine print there is no guarantee but the ad for the home they posted said all were included AND they gave us the wifi password. The said there was an outage in the area,Charter cable said no there isn't .Lie #1 The said they did a check of the house that day and by some coincidence it went out when we checked in. We called for cable repair and had to stay there 3 days without any service. The repair man said this cable/internet looked like it was out a while.Lie #2.Sun told us garbage to the street Mondays but we had to call them 2x because there were no garbage cans on the property. The last day there the cable/internet was shut off by the cable company because the management company and new owner never changed names and paid the bill.We found this out by calling again Charter/Spectrum cable and that's what they said. We had looked at homes to purchase the entire week were there, and learned 1 thing to do when we purchase our home and rent it out. DO NOT HIRE SUN REALTY to manage it because they could care less about any of our problems!!!! read more

My family stayed in "Dune the Dream" 465-b in OBX the week of July 8. Unfortunately it was roach infested. Sunrealty finally sent pest control on Friday. We continued to see them after being sprayed. We ended up leaving but were only offered $50 on a future stay. It took 2 days to wash and clean everything to prevent bringing the roaches into my home. read more

Sun Reality was unable to delivery a property; as per their contract I expect a full refund. However they claim trip insurance is needed but the contract clearly states if they cannot deliver then a full refund will be provided. I am considering legal action against Sun Reality. read more

Hayesy Days of Summer "luxury rental" This is what you pay a premium for at Sun Realty. According to management, if they don't know about it they can't fix it!! Well we told management about it and this is what we stayed in for a week!! This what they did fix, loose hand railings on outdoor steps and decks, sprayed for ants, and shocked pool. They are "working with the owners" to see if we got what we paid for. What the pictures don't show is the thermostat didn't go below 80 degrees the majority of the week. The pool stopped pumping and had to be serviced and shocked, another day lost in paradise. Rusty Nail pops on almost every step and outdoor railing in addition to the damaged spindles. The pile of rusty nails covering the porch outside the front door. The list goes on. Just want future renters to be aware of what we experienced and not have to loose thousands of dollars on a vacation like we did. We trusted the pictures that were advertised but the reality of Hayesy Days of Summer was a rude awakening!! read more

We have visited the OBX a couple of other occasions, but this is the first time we handled the realty duties. We settled on a home from Sun because our kids picked a house with a variety of amenities they wanted. Sun was easy to deal with, and has very flexible ways to pay for your rental. The people were nice and did a good job of explaining things in proper detail. If the right house were available, I would deal with them again. The house was nice, but not the "Wow!" we were hoping for. Spiders and ants seemed to rule the outside, a common theme in places where there is plenty of water. They addressed a couple of issues satisfactorily, but disappeared toward the middle and end of the week. We left a list of issues for them to address, and hopefully they did so. From a marketing perspective, their search engine and GuestWeb were excellent tools. However, some of the pictures of the property were terribly outdated, especially of the outdoor amenities. A good experience with Sun, but not the "Wow!" we were hoping to receive. read more

It was our first and LAST time renting from sun realty. We vacationed in corolla the first week of September. When we arrived our linens were not there at the house. I called and they said go back to office and get in the linen bin. We didnt notice how much of a "dump" this house was till the next day. Most of the sliding doors to go outside did not open. The stairs to the shower were over grown so we couldn't get down stairs. The gates to and from the porch were dangerous because they didnt even open properly due to neglect of upkeep. The lawn chairs at pool were very dirty and broken. The house had dusty Cobb webs from the fans and the vents. The house just was not well kept at all! The worst part was the mildew/mold...whatever it was was on the doors..around the outside of the doors...in the shower. My step dad and myself were sick from the exposure to mildew/mold. We had to evacuate mandatorily due to hurricane Dorian. When I say that was the worst house we have ever stayed in I am being honest. The pictures of this house were beautiful. Oceanfront. Pool. We were so excited and when we arrived we were so dissatisfied. I contacted sin realty weekly for 3 weeks and they didnt get back to me until I contacted the BBB and they finally called me. I didnt like how the manager handled the situation. He was very unsympathetic. I dont complain and I dont not review things but I feel like this should be reviewed. read more

My family and I arrived at 767 lakeshore ct in Corolla NC after an eleven hour trip from New York. The Property is 80-k Currituck Breeze. When we pulled up to the house, our first impressions were anything but positive. Half of the deck had no paint on it, while the other half had its paint peeling off. The Paint on the siding of the house is two different tones. The siding is cracked and peeling. The screens covering the windows and doors are filthy and out dated. At first glance, nothing seems right. The home looked nothing like its advertised pictures. As we walked into the home, it only got worse. The house's air condition was set to 75 degrees and we were unable to lower it below 70 degrees. There are only a few lights with working light bulbs in the home. The couches are outdated and uncomfortable. The small kitchen island has cracks along the side of it. There is a tall lamp in the corner of the living room without a lamp shade or light bulb. Up stairs, the carpets are filthy. They are stained and dirty and have many pulls. The bedrooms have a terribly uncomfortable feel to them. The pillows all have small stains on them. The comforters seem as though they haven't been cleaned and there are no linens on the beds. Each room feels as if they haven't been cared for in years. The lamps are chipped and old. The bathrooms are no better. The baths have filthy curtains and the tubs are stained. From the top deck, you can look across the way to a house that seems as if it was abandoned. The pool is green and unkempt. Our vacation home is just an uncontrollable nose dive. We called Sun Realty immediately and explained to them our situation. They give us a work around telling us that there is nothing they can do. We told them about the dirty home and weathered paint. Apparently that doesn't entitle us to any form of reimbursement. Day one has been a complete disaster of our vacation thanks to Sun Realty allowing their customers to believe they are settling into a beautiful vacation home, when in reality, they just post deceiving pictures and make false promises of excellent customer care. I have never felt the absolute need to make a yelp review before. This is my first one. I felt compelled to write about my experience so far with this home and Sun Realty. read more

We rented property 506A, Dolphin's View and had a wonderful experience with Sun Realty. The staff is friendly and helpful and addressed any questions/concerns I had - from reservations, check-in, to check-out. I signed up for notifications and, on our travel day, received a text letting me know that the home was ready. Upon arrival, we found a very clean and well-maintained home, just steps from the beach. My family hasn't been to the OBX in 13 years and we thank you for making our trip stess free! We will rent from Sun again next year! read more

Found bed bugs in my already not so clean and kept property. When I reported it they said they would check it out and never called me back. So I posted a review on their website but then the review was taken down. Then I called to ask about it and they never called me back. Again. read more

First time I stayed at a Sun Realty rental was when I swore I wouldn't rent from them again. The house was filthy and unkempt. The people were rude to deal with -- you can just tell that this rental group is probably the cheapest for what those Home owners can afford and you get what you pay for. I had the unfortunate luck to stay with a friend this year who picked a Sun Realty home and I've advised them to never rent through them again, after seeing the conditions and cringin! Loose deck railing, broken exhaust fans, burnt out lights, millions of cobwebs/spiders on everything, filthy HVAC filters, the list can go on... Twiddy and Brindley Beach have been lovely to rent from, run from this group! read more

We decided to rent a beach house with Sun Realty. The beach house is beautiful at first look, but when we got there, we noticed many problems from the start. First of all, the pockey table had two broken latches all on one end, so the table would curve over while playing either pool or air hockey. This is a minor infraction, but it gets worse. In the bathroom downstairs, the towel bar was broken. There was also a huge stain on one of the cushions on the upstairs couch. Sun Realty sent somebody out to clean the stain, and when it wouldn't clean, we called the offices at Sun Realty. Instead of coming over to replace it, the first response I got was "turn it over." This is absolutely unacceptable. I expect better customer service at run down one-story motels that advertise free cable. We will not be returning to Sun Realty for horrible lack of customer service, and would rather even sleep on the sidewalk than even thinking of renting a Sun Realty beach house. We may have not had the worst house overall, but if we did, the customer service would be horrendous, and we'd be having a horrible time. read more

We were very disappointed with Sun Realty and the owner's response a for a repair. We rented SS-147 Overdraft, the week of July 19, 2020. The oven was not working the day we checked into this rental. Each day we had to call Sun Realty for an update on the repair status; they never reached out to us. On day 5, a repairperson arrived unannounced and said the oven could not be fixed. If this was known on day 1 we could have made other food preparations. The owner refunded only a small portion of our additional food costs incurred, plus the cost of this rental. This home is showing wear and tear, and from our experience, repairs are made only when it is necessary. Our week was spent dealing with an issue; not what we expected to do on vacation. Sun Realty accepted no responsibility for the poor customer service and the office tried to blame their service department when the Kitty Hawk office was aware we were getting no call backs. Very poor experience. read more

I have been renting homes in the Outer Banks here and there for the past twenty years. This year was probably my fifth experience with Sun Realty. I will not be using their services again. The house had too many things wrong to list. We arrived early but could not check in until 4:00. That's understandable. However, we periodically drove by the house and nobody ever showed up to clean. Then we suddenly got a text the house was ready. There were broken and ripped chairs on the deck, along with a high chair that was outside and looked like it hadn't been used in 10 years. The yard was so overgrown that one side of the deck stairs could no longer be used. It was completely blocked by overgrown shrubs and weeds. Also, a whole board at the top of the steps completely came off because the nails were so rusty. Two sliding doors were completely broken on the top deck and could not be used. The wood was moldy and rain water was starting to leak into the entrance. Only one door into the living room from the outside deck actually worked. A lock was broken on one of the downstairs bedroom glass doors. So there was a board to insert into the door, which replaced the lock. The fence surrounding the pool was falling apart. The pictures on the web site are clearly more than ten years old. If not closer to twenty. If Sun Realty offered tiered price ranges, I'd be more forgiving. But it infuriates me that we paid a weekly rate over $4,000 for a home in this condition. Sun Realty is responsible for maintaining standards, and should clearly tell the owner of this home (and any others) that it cannot be rented at top dollar in the condition it's currently in. Our neighbors had beautiful homes, and paid about the same rate for each bedroom that we paid. There were landscapers that regularly paid visits to these other homes. Our place hadn't been touched in years. I doubt Sun Realty will do much. They haven't responded to anyone else here with complaints. It shows how much they care about their business. But if my review helps one more person to steer clear and use a more reputable company, I've done my job. read more

Sun Realty is a horror. My family chose to rent a house from them this past week after being assured the house (75M) would have wifi for us to keep up with our emails. The internet was nonexistent, and the realtor's office failed to try to correct the issue or refund us. read more

We haven't been to the Outer Banks in years, and when researching places to stay to accommodate approximately 25 of our family, we found Angel's Retreat, and were very excited about the size, location to the beach, location to shopping/restaurants, etc. We also based our decision on the beautiful pictures and amenities that were stated in the house listing, it even had an elevator! After driving for 10 hours to our destination, we are immediately greeted with some of our family members, explaining that the tv's didn't work, cable/WiFi not working, along with several other things, which they reported immediately. When you own a house like this, you should check on who your managing company is.. really! The house was run down, unclean, very little supplies, no working outside lights, and it felt like we were cooking in a cave because the lights were almost all burned out! By day three, still no word from maintenance.. then a power outage (wasn't their fault), for an entire day. Onto leaking water on the floor downstairs.. where was it coming from? We learned the hard way, it was poop. Poop on the floor, poop coming up in the bathtubs.. one big shitty mess! Called maintenance.. they finally came then.. stated the septic was full and needed sucked out. After they did that, we had to ask to clean more than a few spots, because we all had shitty bacteria feet at this time with 4 kids dropping things on the shitty floors. So healthy. Now unable to use the entire bottom floor for the remainder of the trip.. everyone had to accommodate for those now misplaced by the poo. Fans were blowing downstairs, then.. Lightening struck. We were in a dark, shitty house now! I felt like Tom Hanks in the money pit, every time I showered in the moldy shower, I thought I might go through the floor and lose it laughing! Too many things to name that were broken. Just cannot believe that someone would let their beautiful house deteriorate like this! Loved Corolla, waiting on some type of compensation for all the aggravation we endured... will definitely go with another company next time. read more

These guys were very easy to work with. I was very nervous traveling to outer banks for my first time and expecting a house for 30 people for thanksgiving! Not sure what to expect but sun realty sent me an email when the house was ready even earlier than I anticipated and I only needed to call them once during the week for an internet outage and they knew immediately that a line had been cut in the community and would be resolved within two hours and it was! Thanks for making our thanksgiving perfect! read more

Arrived in Salvo on Saturday to find a broken elevator. I use a wheelchair, and cannot stand. In renting this property, everything hinged on the elevator. My sister maded that clear many times. Anyway, for an hour on Saturday, someone at Sun Realty talked my cousin through getting the elevator to work to the 3rd floor. The kitchen and living area is on the 4th floor. I've yet to be able to have dinner with my family, or enjoy the best views. It's now Tuesday afternoon, and no one from Sun Realty or the elevator company has been out. Sun says a part has been ordered. Curiously, nobody came out to inspect the elevator. It leaves one to believe that they knew of a problem all along. This is my only vaction this year, and it sucks to be duped this way. We'll se what happens. read more

We stayed on the 4X4 beach from October 6 to the 13th and rented from Sun Realty. The rental agreement was paid in full in February of this year. The house was in bad disrepair with many things wrong. The house was not clean when we arrived, as was expected. The area rugs in the upstairs quarters are very dirty and look as they have never been cleaned. The hot water is not even connected in the master bath sink, incidentally the shower in this bath leaked into the downstairs halllway. The stove had 2 burners that were not functional and on the last day we were here the 3rd burner stopped working. The WiFi was not working when we arrived, neither was the telephone. Fortunate for us, our friend was retired from Bell South and he temporarily fixed the telephone so we could report the problems with this house. The repairman arrived on the third day to repair the telephone and WiFi. There were mouse droppings in the drawers upstairs and downstairs and I am not talking about a few, there were a lot. We had to clean the house before unpacking and I have never had to do this before. We will not rent from Sun Realty again as this house was the pits and not a good use of hard earned money. This vacation was my 60th birthday vacation and I am here to say, that it was a memorable one. The house was much cleaner when we left than when we arrived. When I was sweeping the living room I moved a plastic plant and found a pile of dirt (sand) behind it as well as a paper plane that was inside the plant. The cleaning crew that provides service for Sun Realty (if they really do have a cleaning contract) should be fired because this house was not clean when we arrived. I have read another review from another guest and I have formed the opinion that Sun Realty is only interested in getting your money and does not care if you sleep in a clean dwelling or if the appliances are functional. This is not the way to run a business. Many of the chairs on the sun deck were broken and there were pieces of a pet/child gate laying on the deck. I have rented from VBO before and I did not mind sweeping the floors before we left but I was not about to mop or clean the bathrooms. Another note is that I was suprised that there was no toilet tissue in any of the bathrooms. When we left the house we left 3 rolls of TP for the next unfortunate guest to SWB-29. Please take note that the young man who came to repair the shower leak was very nice and a hard worker. He was the best thing about Sun Realty. read more

I have vacationed in the OBX 5 out of the last 7 years. I have never had a problem until this year. I rented the house Selah 105 in Hatteras Island from the website description and the picture the house was beautiful. However the upkeep was less than par, there were many items that did not work- the movie theater, game system, the refrigerator, freezer, both central large screen TV's... honestly was a huge disappointment. That isn't the reason for my review-- I want to share what I have learned about this whole process. As a consumer we sign a rental agreement with Sun Realty-- however when you are not happy with what you had expected to rent then there 'is nothing more Sun can do'. The director of relations will email you and respond to all negative social media adds but Sun will do very little to satisfy the consumer. So when you rent a house for certain amenities realize it's not a guarantee. The contract really just means you will pay your balance but there is nothing that actually ensures you that you will get what you think you are paying for. UNLIKE anything else you purchase. Also Sun Realty seeks POSITIVE feedback for the website- they filter the negative feedback. The standard answer by the director-- which I have witnessed personally as well as on the BBB website and other media...as a token of good will we offer a $100 early check in credit-- as if that $150 is going to account for the terrible conditions of the house. Anyway rent cautiously you pay Sun-- but if something doesn't work Sun says they have to check with the owner (BTW if you actually try to contact the owner say at their privately owned business via email-- you may get advised to seek legal counsel)...and if the owner doesn't want to compensate you for your loss then you are out of luck. It is a system that is set up to protect the owners and the rental agency...there is no regard to the consumer! read more

Our family recently made our 4th trip to Corolla, where we rented a house through Sun Realty. Specifically, we stayed in 66-K "Morning Mist". After driving for 2 days, we arrived at our vacation house, only to discover that it was FILTHY. We were hit in the face with a musty, stale cigarette smell (this house was supposed to be non-smoking...but given the cigarette remains all over the decking around the house, the previous renters did not comply). On the middle floor, where my family was to sleep, the bunk beds for our children were very wobbly, and really squeaky...definitely in need of some tightening of screws (or replacement). The king sized bedroom, where my husband and I planned to sleep had a bed cover that was dingy, and the mattress cover underneath had remains of bugs. Upon further inspection of the bed, my husband found what appeared to be a bed bug CRAWLING on the edge of the mattress cover. GROSS! My husband called Sun Realty, and spoke to someone in the office. They decided to first send out an EXTERMINATOR to check all the beds for bed bugs. Great start to our vacation. While this was helpful, and it was determined that there was NO evidence of bed bugs, we were grossed out to think that there were ANY kind of bugs in that bed. We shut the door and investigated the other bedroom on that floor. ALL bedding came off of the beds, I personally put the mattress covers through the washing machine on HOT WATER. Not something that I should have to do while on vacation. As if that one situation wasn't bad enough, the walls on the top level of the house were splattered with (what we HOPE was) chocolate milk. Cobwebs were HANGING from light fixtures/ceiling fans, windowsills had large dead insects and loads of dust on them, the kitchen floor was STICKY, and a USED mop was left in the kitchen. The garbage can did not have a cover, and the wall behind it was disgusting. The couch looked like someone had wiped cheesy fingers on it, and the two chairs in the living area were visibly dirty. Two of the dining chairs were broken and not useable. The house was just plain dirty. Sun Realty did offer to send housekeeping over, at which point it was 7:00 and we had 2 tired children who really needed to get some rest. We declined and spent 2 HOURS cleaning everything from top to bottom, ourselves. You're welcome. We suggested that someone from the office come and take a look to see what we were dealing with...no such luck. They were not at ALL interested. Had this been our first trip, and first experience with Sun Realty, we may have thought this was just the way it is...but we knew better, as we have NEVER experienced this type of situation before. Sun Realty did offer to give us $70 toward a rental for next year, but I think we will pass...thankyouverymuch. We enjoy Corolla very much, but Sun Realty needs to step it up. read more

Realty Company: Sun Realty House: Dixie Dreams 84-0 This house is nicely located one block from the beach. It does not have a good view of the ocean. The top two (of three) levels are clean and comfortable and will sleep nine to eleven people. In its current state, the lower level is unusable, as it is very damp and musty. There is a deck/balcony that is narrow, but usable for outside seating. This house has much potential, however it is suffering from neglect and is in dire need of maintenance. The short list: - Appliances (refrigerator, washing machine, dryer) are rusty - Exterior sliding screens do not slide easily and readily fall off their track - Shower doors in master BR do not slide, so one must shower with the door open. - First floor (lowest level) is too damp and musty for safe/comfortable use. - Bushes outside the house are overgrown and crowd the patio area. - Steps to the hot tub are broken with exposed rusty nails. - Windows are so dirty you cannot see through them (this is not an exaggeration). I have visited OBX annually for the last 25 years. This house was my least enjoyable. read more

We rented a house in Kill Devil Hills called ZA Harris. We checked in on 7/19 and everything was a mess. It was supposedly cleaned but there was dust everywhere, sand on the stairs leading up to the upstairs bedrooms, spill in the kitchen floor, the previous peoples dirty laundry in our living room still, bedspreads and pillows that I assume was supposed to be taken as well, trash behind stove, the previous people's trash that had been there for days because it was stinking up a storm. They failed to mention that this house was built in the 1930s and has became an absolute dump. Paint chipping off the window areas, the downstairs "half bath" had a boarded up window so no one can see in, exposed pipes in the upstairs bathroom running down to the living room area, old musty smell, the house rocks like being on a boat anytime there is a slight gust of wind. We've stayed at some not so great hotels before but what we paid for this house, you'd think it would be a better place to stay. Do not rent from this place. read more

We booked a house through Sun in June 2020. We had several issues with regards to the actual water in the house along with the safety aspects of the house. The water had a really foul odor and never got to anything higher than luke warm at best. We had injuries sustained because of items that were broken and not tended to. Spent the week we were there mostly on the phone with them and their maintenance department only to be told empty, vague excuses for why all the problems were not their fault and we pretty much had to deal. It wasn't until our last day when the water completely quit working that we finally seen a maintenance man. I have told them about the situation and have not heard back from them since. Not asking for anything other than for them to own their mistakes and maybe say I'm sorry. There's a lot that goes into having a vacation ruined, but one thing you should be able to count on is the house you chose to pay BIG bucks for, this was not the case with this realtor. read more

I have rented houses in the outer banks many times and Sun Realty was by far the worst experience I have ever had. The property we rented was filthy, covered in dirt and sand and cockroaches and other bugs and food. The roof leaked in FIVE separate places, and ruined my laptop cover and almost ruined my laptop itself, the appliances were glitchy, the hot tub was dysfunctional and even the repair man said he was surprised how old it was, there was a USED RAZOR AND OTHER UTENSILS in the bathroom, there was a giant dead spider on the bed, the beds were full of dirt and dog hair. I could go on, but the important thing is that I let Sun Realty know about these conditions during and after the visit and they were NEVER addressed and my emails have gone unanswered. Don't ever use this real estate agency!!!! They are appallingly bad, and I have never had this sort of treatment or condition any other time I visited the outer banks. BUYER BEWARE!!!! read more

This was a devastating experience! I urge you to find any other company to spend your time and money with. After driving 14 hours with a 4 and 6 year old as well as another family who drove the same distance with a 10 year old we walked into a home that was FILTHY! It was after hours when we were finally able to get into the house. Upon looking for after hours phone numbers to call we read instructions that clearly stated unless it was a major emergency not to call. I didn't think a dirty house was a major emergency so after spending $60 at Wal-Mart to buy new blankets because the blankets provided to us were grossly stained we stayed the night with a plan to go straight to the office in the morning. We thought that as soon as we showed pictures of dirty laundry that was left behind, crusted couches, smears on nearly every wall that they would appologize immediately. Instead I was met with relentless excuses, passive aggression, and attempts at trying to get us to stay in this pit of a home. Mike, the employee we dealt with demanded he come and inspect the house. Even after walking into a home that wreaked of mildew, was covered in crust and stains on bedding/couches/and all walls, had yellowed rancid mattresses, rusty vents falling from all ceilings, rusty shower curtain rod that was so rusty the hooks were sticking to it, and dead bugs everwhere he made us feel as though it was something we were overreacting about. He agreed to move us but not without a fight or being rude beyond belief. I refused to move anywhere without inspecting it first. He sent us to a new property where when we arrived it was better but not great by any means. The counters needed to be wiped down, there was sand in one of the beds and there was dust and cobwebs everywhere. In comparrison it was better (how could it not be?) and I was exhausted and really sad that this is what our first family vacation had turned into so I conceded and agreed to just take the new house. I requested that we not pay for the first night as the first 24 hours were spent in discomfort and moving but they have yet to issue any reimbursement including one that is owed to me for winding up in a less expensive house. Sun Realty has a lot to learn about hospitality and most importantly cleanliness! Please save yourself the aggravation of doing business with this poor company. Cleaniless is a bare minimum in the hospitality industry and they don't even ensure that guests are in well kept clean homes. Most employees stated they had never even seen or been to the houses so we know they aren't being managed at all let alone properly. They should be ashamed of what they are marketing as comfortable vacation rentals. read more

Will NEVER again rent from Sun. After vacationing in OBX yearly for 40 years and always using TWIDDY, decided to try SUN. BIG, BIG MISTAKE. Our rental was in Avon, one row back from OF. Driving up the short driveway, very noticeable was peeling yellow paint,. badly ripped window screens, rust leaking down the house siding from rusty nails that should NEVER have been used, broken, dirty deck furniture, nails sticking up on outside steps that were very hazardous, an old picnic table that seated. 4,(with no umbrella) there were 11 of us. Now on the inside, one SMALL drip coffee pot, beaters for an electric mixer but no mixer, the top of a blender but no blender,. ONE big skillet with the handle ready to fall off. I could go on and on HORRIBLE HOUSE read more

The house we stayed in was alright other than the quality of the beds. The laundry room was ground level and a hike from the rest of the house. This was never mentioned in description. Upon arrival the front check in woman never called us to tell us our house was ready and said we we were not allowed to even park our car in the driveway. We left early because of a hurricane that caused mandatory evacuations in hatteras. The weather was crazy windy 30 mph+ making the waves crash basically on the steps down to the beach. Also for the entire week the weather was not supposed to change. I had paid for travel insurance and they did nothing as in reimbursement. Or in a partial charge per night (on the website reservations at this point of the year). We only stayed for 3 nights and paid for a full 7. I will never stay with any houses managed by this company again. read more

We rented Fun in the Sun CV-17 We have several messages in to Lori at this office, but have not received any call back. This house was in disrepair and not as advertised. My husband had to call 3 times to get a broken piece of glass removed from the home, which, according to the realtor, had been slated to be removed 2 weeks prior. We had 3 small children with us and the glass was a safety hazard. There were only 2 burners on the stove that worked and the grill that was at the house was broken and had no propane. We did not receive a new grill for 3 days and did not get the stove fixed for 3 days. We had 7 people to cook for. This house is 10 miles outside of town, so it wasn't that we could just order a pizza! There were ants in the home as well as roaches. This issue was not addressed by Sun Realty at all. The worst part was the well water was left untreated so it smelled like sulfur. That was disgusting! We had to make 3 phone calls and 1 visit to the office until someone came out to treat the water. The owners of the home had left a note on the refrigerator, unknown to Sun Realty, that the water was unsuitable for cooking or drinking. Again, being 10 miles out of town doesn't make for easy access to fresh water! This was not advertised and we were very upset that we couldn't use the water in the home. The only filter on the sink was clogged and did not work. Dishes and utensils from previous renters were left dirty. Basically, a better half of our vacation was distressing due to unusable water and inability to cook. We feel that this is a vacation home and multiple phone calls and visits should not have to be made to make our vacation comfortable. This should be taken care of by the realty company. read more

Rented the Sea-Dubb last week. Good building, served us well. My only problem is that the WiFi was TERRIBLE. Maybe the Town of Corolla could make an investment in WiFi that would set them apart from th other towns - we tourists RELY on our electronic gear to find out where to go, on your fair Banks. The town of Baraboo, WI. recently did a WiFi upgrade, you should check with them about how to do it affordably. read more

Summer 2014 we stayed in Sea Angel WHL-858. Place was AWFUL! Water was yellow and smelt like sulphur. Dogs wouldn't touch it! The carpet was filthy. There was blood on one of the bedspreads. Dryer didn't work almost the entire time so we hung dry our clothes. The pool deck had beer bottle caps laying around and a beer can plus trash. We were told we would get some sort of reimbursement for the inconvenience. We had to keep calling Sun Realty to check in because no one was calling us back about the problems so we felt ignored. To top everything off, when we got home of course we had to call to ask when we would get reimbursed. Instead, a claim was made that we trashed the place and that we left beer cans laying all over the house which was a flat out lie! They were trying to charge us! We don't even drink, were Mormon. We are honest people and would own up to anything we would do. The only thing that's "possible" is that the kids "may" have broken the hot tub cover. THAT we can own up to because that could have happened. Everything else was a bold face lie and outrageous. Never EVER will I deal with this rental property or company again! So beware and warned! read more

We along with 3 other families rented a house from Sun Realty at 1284 Sandcastle Dr in Corolla. We have done this before with great success at different places, but this time that was not to be the case. For the money we paid we expected a house better than one that college kids would rent at the Jersey shore. First our bedroom was horrible. The comforter was filthy, the bed pillows were disgusting and there were huge stains on the carpet. A better room could be found at a cheap hotel on the highway. The other bedrooms were not that much better. Throughout the house there were many other disappointments: The house was full of dog hair, appears that the house was not carefully cleaned. A table on the porch was so rusted that if we cut ourselves we would have needed a tetanus shot. The same goes for the screen on the fireplace. The porch off the upstairs that we would have loved to use had furniture that was so moldy we could not even sit on the chairs. On the same porch there was a high chair that no mother would ever let there child even near! The two couches in the living area were so old which made them uncomfortable and hard to get out of. The pool and the pool area could have been nicer. It did have a nice table and chairs but was spoiled by an umbrella that clearly was one that you can rent on the beach. The pool didn't even have a hand rail to get in and out which was difficult for the older people. How did this even pass an inspection? The entire house was unattractive and it was obvious no one cared about it. We found out it was recently sold so I guess that explains it. But that was not our problem. Now in all fairness we did call Sun Realty and they did send someone out to clean the dog hair and take the comforters out to be cleaned. They also took the moldy cushions away and cleaned some of the mold. We still could not use the porch though. They also bought a new high chair, which we did not need but the next person can thank us for. With all this we still had a great vacation, not letting these things spoil our fun. We will however never use Sun Realty again, they knew what they were renting us. Best to rent privately if possible. read more

we have rented in OBX for 18 years, our first with sun this year. Rented a home with elevator for our 85 yr old dad. We arrived to find all the dirty linens at 4 pm on the front porch from last renters, which sat there for 3 days, till we moved them to the driveway after 2 calls to sun requesting they collect them, dirty linen laid on driveway the entire week. Found the home to not be clean floors made all our bare feet black within an hour and we had small children crawling on floors. broom was broke, vacuum did not work and stunk from dirt inside it. elevator broke and one of our guest was stuck for over an hour Saturday evening for an hour. we called and were alway greeted kindly and told someone would get back that day but no one ever called back. elevator was broke till Monday at noon, trapping our dad on the top floor for 2.5 days. On Sunday we called again about elevator and girl thought repairman was on vacation and gave no other options . WIFI went down onTuesday and again after 6 calls over 3 days, the reality had no idea where the internet box was located, finally located and having to remove a panel to hit the reset button, we did it on our own.. while we always found sun staff friendly, they continually never followed through with repairs and issues. we would not recommend this reality company, we will return to OBX but use the other two realtors we have used in the past. read more

Please see my review at first yelp site. These people are NOT nice, professional, accomodating or good managers. We just got back from OBX and had a good time despite Sun Realty. read more

Sea Angel whl-858 week 8/11/12 - 8/19/12 We had our worst vacation in 12 years of going to the outer banks. When we arrived to house on sat late afternoon we noticed very loose railings on the steps going up to the 3rd floor, the hammock in the front was broke a lot of the decks had green residue on them holes in the outside of the house that were though to the house wrap, pool and hot tub looked good. Went inside and smelled very musty like mildew. We found hair in tubs and dirty cloths from previous renters so it was not cleaned properly before we got there. Then we found black mold on the ceiling in the kid's bedroom a smoke detector wires hanging from the ceiling in the hallway spider webs everywhere and the water had a crap like smell to it.. And then to top it all off as we tried to settle down and try figure out what we were going to do one of the couples room was found to have bugs flying all over it. We called the emergency line and were told they were harmless and nothing they could do right now. So they had to sleep on the sofa that night. We should have left then but we all drove 10 hours and were in no mood to drive home. The next day I had the manager come to the property he acted like I was bothering him for nothing and he did nothing about our problems except get a guy to come out and spay kills paint over the mold spot and block off the railing outside so we could not use them. We went out and got bug spay and sprayed the one room so the couple could use it but the bugs showed in another room later and we had to spay that room also. Then on Monday morning we took a trip to the office and talked to Floyd he was much more helpful and had a cleaning person come out that day and clean it very well later that day the pest control guy finally showed up and there were some sort of bug covering the outside edges of the house so he spayed them and they were gone the rest of the week. Smoke detector got fixed on Tuesday. As you can tell this house has some issues and I would not recommend it to anyone. We were told we could expect to be compensated around $300 which is a laugh considering we paid around $3000 for this hell week. I was originally told we would see a refund by the end of the week then at the end of the week I was told I should expect a call from him today 8/20/12 will see what happens with this as this will determine how sun realty deals with there clients and weather I will deal with sun realty in the future at all. I have complete video and documentation of everything and plan to put on facebook as well unless we are taken care off. best off luck to everyone else but i would reccomend staying away from this place. read more
