    red ants in pantry

We rented The Sound and The Sea in Corolla, NC. The inside was okay, the outside was a disaster. Garbage, broken seashells and junk was under the picnic tables by the pool. The chairs around the pool had dead bugs and bird poop all over them. A garden hose was left on the second floor landing. The worst was all the dead bugs covering the windows, windows sills and deck chairs. The homes on either side of us, did not have these problems. Ants in the pantry, that returned after pest control came. I texted Twiddy on Sunday, the day of our arrival, then called them Monday morning. On Tuesday, almost 48 hours after arrival, the company came to power wash the windows, a Twiddy representative came and cleaned up the mess and chairs. No one from Twiddy every cleaned the outside of the home before we arrived. I do not think they reviewed it at all. Twiddy tried to tell me it was environmental, but after the outside was power washed the bugs or bird poop never returned. I requested compensation and Twiddy offered to returned the home service fee of $275 as a goodwill gesture. I pleaded my case, with pictures and details and as another goodwill gesture they offered me $500.00 citing environmental and paragraph 5 of the lease. I could tell my emails were falling on deaf ears, so I accepted the $500. Twiddy does not care about their customers. Will never rent from Twiddy again and will not recommend them.

Let me start off by saying the only reason this is a 2-star review is due to the mostly excellent Customer Service experience we have had up until this point. We arrived at our rental, Sea Glass of Corolla, on Saturday, August 23 at about 5:30 in the evening. Within an hour, our 7-year-old brought us a fishing hook that she found on the bottom of her sock, followed by a second one 20 minutes later. This was the start of a list 14 items long by the end of that night. The issues that we ran into included, but not limited to, those fish hooks, 4 inches of fishing line that I had to pull out of my dog's mouth, both the air and water filter on the refrigerator needing replaced, the button on the back of the kitchen sink sprayer missing, the bottom of the microwave door broken, ants on the kitchen counter, TV remotes not working/missing/missing batteries, old dried up dog poop on the floor, the laundry room light burnt out, nails popping out of several deck boards, rotted deck boards ready to break through if the wrong person steps on them, a pool pump spewing water, missing transition strips on the second level causing children to step on exposed tack strips, and several others. On Sunday, Twiddy sent out a Service Tech, pest control, and housekeeping, resulting in me not having the ability to spend quality vacation time with my family, including calls on the beach. To top off the day, after dinner, the smoke detectors started going off in the house not once, not twice, but FIVE times before a tech finally showed up to clean the sensors on them. The Service Tech concluded, along with myself, that one of the hard-wired smoke detectors was installed too close to one of the bathrooms, causing it to sense the moisture that came out after a shower. At this point, on our first full day of vacation, we have had to cancel evening plans and had FOUR different people in the house at different times. Monday things settled down to start, but there was still a Service visit for transition strips (these still were not fixed at this time) and refrigerator filters, followed by another bout with the smoke detectors at the end of the day. On Tuesday, there was another Service Tech out on two separate occasions: once with transition strips (which were never installed, he simply put tape under the carpet to protect from the exposed tack strips) and once to finally replace the light bulb in the laundry room. So, now, if you're counting, that's SIX different people in the house a total of SEVEN times in the first THREE full days of our vacation, keeping in mind, there's only SIX total. Maybe that's why we never received a call back regarding the spiders that we witnessed running across beds and on the walls? In spite of the spiders, we managed to enjoy the rest of our vacation. So far this review sounds like more of an issue with the house, right? You wouldn't be wrong if you thought that. But Twiddy should have more of a presence on the changeover day to make sure that any areas not cleaned get cleaned, that any filters are changed, check for the presence of ants if there are traps on the counter, notice a pool filter spewing water and deck issues, and even get a report from someone if there are lights out/not working. Additionally, upon our return home and a review from the "Resolutions" team, we were offered a $125 credit, which does not begin to compensate us for the troubles that we had and the time that we had to wait to get the things that were fixed completed. Their response was that the issues were resolved in a timely manner, but I'm not sure that most people trying to enjoy their vacation would agree that literally HALF the days spent on vacation were dealing with people from the rental company in some way. At this time, we still have not come to a resolution, but we are still, for some reason, considering renting with Twiddy again next year for two weeks instead of one due to the location and price of another house that we have found. I sincerely hope this review reaches the right people and a resolution can be reached.

Out family's first rental with Twiddy. Had the pleasure meeting Hunter in the office this afternoon and he was very pleasant kind and patient. The house is amazing.

    It's 5 O'clock Somewhere - Corolla

We rented a house from Twiddy on the Outer Banks in August 2021. It was called "5 O'Clock Somewhere". I want to start by saying we had a fabulous time, great views, steps from the ocean, and great house layout...there were just a few too many complaints about this house as we stayed through the week and utilized it more. Simply, this place is in need of some real TLC. The booking and check-in process was easy and the photos online were accurate, but as we got to the house, we quickly realized these photos were taken some time ago and the house needed some real TLC. Missing utensils in the kitchen, cabinets broken, tv sounds terrible, dishwasher didn't work (after calling Twiddy and having 3 techs come out to fix it), bathrooms a mess, dust & dead bugs everywhere...I could go on. We paid a $200+ cleaning fee and feel like this house wasn't even cleaned when we arrived. Especially during COVID...that's completely disgusting. I think they just did the towels and sheets and moved on. They're very nice whenever you call to report something, but I feel like the problem doesn't even get resolved. During our check-in they mentioned streets to the house are flooded (we stayed in a 4x4 house right on the drive out beach) but didn't give us a safe route to get to the house. They just said we could call if we can't get through the puddles. These were big puddles and it was absolutely rediculous that as we were stuck, after driving 12 hours through the night, we had to wait on hold to get someone to come out and help us. How easy would it be to draw us up a map??? Geez. Also, as we drove out on the beach, we ended up getting stuck. Twiddy told us AFTER the fact that you can call them to help you out...why wouldn't you tell your customers who are staying on the 4x4 beach that this option is available to their guests? We are out of town and haven't stayed with Twiddy before and were feeling like fish out of water, looking like idiots trying to get someone to help pull us out. Overall, I loved our vacation here, we stayed with a large group of friends and it was a great time with the house in the perfect location with a pool & hot tub. I really just wish they took better care of this home. Especially for the amount of money paid for this rental.

NOOOO TO TWIDDY! We arrived at the house to find fecal matter on the mattress cover of the top bunk in one of the bedrooms. My husband called Twiddy and he was asked if it went through to the mattress. Not only had we just walked into the property after a long drive, we were also paying an exorbitant amount of money to stay there. Also, for obvious reasons such as the risk of covid and or other infectious disease exposure, he was not able to answer this question. I am confused as to why he was asked for this information instead of being told that someone would be right over to take care of the issue for us.. In addition to the unsanitary situation, we also noticed the following lack of upkeep in the property, most of which was discussed with Twiddy reps on our first night: dirt, grime, cobwebs in windows heaps of dust in rooms mildew in the bathrooms a moldy, dusty spoon in one of the bedrooms floors that had been swept, but not mopped or even swiffered. broken chairs by the pool, on the deck, and at the table outside dirt and/or mold in kitchen drawer what appeared to be a small blood stain in bathroom. On our third night, we set up dinner outside only to realize we had to bring everything back in because the table was so rusted underneath that it was flaking off, and was not safe with bare feet or flip flops because not all of us were up to date on our tetanus shots. We never received follow up contact from Twiddy to make sure the situation had been handled appropriately and resolved. Which it was not!! As it was our total price with insurance exceeded $8000 for one week. For that type of money, the place should be move in ready, and we shouldn't have to wonder what it is we are actually sleeping over every night or deep clean drawers and cabinets. Thanks

We used Twiddy to rent our vacation home, in June of 2019. This was our 8th trip to the Outer Banks but first time using Twiddy as we previously stayed south in Salvo, Waves & Avon. This time we wanted to stay in Corolla and were very pleased with our rental experience. We rented "Skipjack" and checkin was a breeze. The house was clean when we arrived & there was a welcome bag that included some of the essentials. This was the first time renting a house that included linens and we found this to be a great convenience. This house is in a perfect location with beach access right across the street! The deck on this house is very nice- made of composite wood. On two separate occasions we had to contact maintenance and they were very responsive (faucet issue and a tv issue). The pool guy came out to clean and care for the pool several times throughout our stay. I really liked how you can make a maintenance request using their App. I definitely recommend Twiddy and in fact, we've already reserved a home for next year too.

I'm naming the property because I wish I had found the reviews on independent sites before we booked. The home had significant cleanliness and maintenance issues upon arrival, including an ant infestation, dirty/stained furnishings, severely rusted outdoor furniture, and a pool area continually covered with pine needles and debris. The advertised tiki bar and second-floor patio area were effectively unusable for our entire stay because of the condition of the furniture and bug infestation. To Brindley Beach's credit, after repeated complaints they eventually sent management, housekeeping, pest control, upholstery cleaning, and other personnel to the house. However, most of this did not happen until the fifth day of our seven-day vacation. Their own housekeeping representative identified additional cleanliness problems beyond those we had reported, and the rusted tiki stools were ultimately removed but never replaced. After our vacation, we requested a reasonable partial refund--not a full refund. Brindley Beach refused, stating that the home remained "habitable" and citing its rental agreement. They did offer to reimburse us for pest-control and other supplies we had to purchase ourselves. What is especially frustrating is that Sounds Amazing appears to have overwhelmingly positive reviews on Brindley Beach's website. After our experience, I searched independent platforms and found significantly more critical reviews of both this property and Brindley Beach that I wish I had seen before booking. My advice: research the specific property on independent review sites before booking through Brindley Beach and don't rely solely on the reviews displayed on their website. Our vacation rental was absolutely not the experience we expected based on how this property was represented. Brindley Beach is a never again for us. We had to make a nuisance of ourselves to get their attention to come fix their poorly maintained property. I feel bad for the owner who is probably paying them good money to take care of his property.

We had waited around for the plumber, the appliance man, the maintenance man and the septic man. As soon as we arrived we saw the house was not clean to our standards and several of the shower curtains were moldy. The down stairs smells extremely musty and the bathroom walls have painted over mold. So we spend Saturday evening cleaning. There were two dishwashers the first one said out of order so we loaded the second one, that too was out of order. The maintenance man arrived Monday morning couldn't fix it so we waited on the appliance guy. He was able to fix it on Tuesday. On Monday morning our downstairs sinks and bath tubs started bubbling every time someone would flush. The septic was backing up. After the maintenance man came and dug up our back yard he told up the septic was full he was going to leave the lid off until the septic company could come out to pump it. He showed up on Wednesday. So we couldn't use the backyard until late Wednesday. The house is not maintained well at all. If I were the owners of this home I would switch rental companies because you guys dropped the ball. We have always used another rental agency on the island but we really liked this house so we decided to try your agency. We will continue to use our previous agency after this experience. We were so very excited to stay at this home again after being married here in 2007 and staying two times previously. Unfortunately, within a couple hours of arrival, the house caught on fire. One outlet went up in flames, another burned inside the wall. We called the fire department and also the rental agency. Thankfully the fire department was easier to get a hold of - I kept getting punted to voicemail for Sun until about an hour later they closed and I was able to go through to their emergency line. LONG story short: Sun did send out an electrician that night but were kind of wishy washy if they were going to. Thank god they did bc the electrician found another outlet that had obviously been on fire upstairs. The downstairs outlet went up in flames when (unknown to those of us outside cleaning/watching kids in pool) one of the people staying there noticed power was out in half the house and flipped the breaker that was tripped which is when the fire started. What's scary is that the breaker didn't trip again - we had to manually turn it back off. It never tripped for the one upstairs. Needless to say, we all slept with one eye open that week after this. Over the week there were numerous safety concerns: a board not nailed down on the stairs to the beach that flipped up and nearly dumped someone about 10' down to the beach, quite a few wasp nests, a defective smoke alarm that didn't stop chirping despite batteries being changed, tripped GFI outlets outside that weren't replaced/addressed, loose outlets that caused the lights to flicker/surge, switches that were glitchy due to water leaking on them from the front window... it's so much that I literally forget everything that was wrong. Then there was just the annoying/cosmetic things like fire ants in the dining room, a toilet turned off, two water bubbles in the ceiling causing paint to flake off in one room, and the house was definitely not cleaned before we arrived (the kitchen was sticky everywhere, towels left in the washer, floor sandy and dirty etc)., most of the rooms didn't have screens for the windows and some of the rooms were missing screens for the sliders, a few of the sliders were impossible to open... again, I could go on but you get the gist. Sun did send maintenance out to fix most of the problems but it did impact our trip constantly having to make literal lists of all the issues and be waiting at the house to walk them through what was wrong because often they didn't have an idea of what the problem of the day was. This was beyond the normal "tired" home at the end of the season or high expectations not being met. I've been coming to the OBX for 40 years and this home in particular for 20. I know that oceanfront homes especially get worn quickly, that at the end of the season things are a bit beat up and that sometimes stuff is sticky. In my 40 years of renting I've NEVER had to call a realty company for anything - this is not how I normally roll. If the house is dirty, I clean it. If things are missing I can live without, I ignore it. You can't ignore safety issues like this, especially when people recently died in a fire in the OBX. We were told we couldn't be moved which we understood due to the lack of inventory but I think it's fair that we get some partial refund but there's been silence on that end. If you are looking to rent Tequila Sunrise in Whalehead Beach, I would ask for current photos before making the booking. It pains me to warn others but what we encountered was beyond cosmetic issues.

UPDATE: I tried to handle this matter privately but was unsuccessful. Sun Realty has since removed my negative feedback shared on their website listing and on Facebook. They should really be investigated by the Better Business Bureau or whatever association oversees realtors in North Carolina for their blatant inaccuracies in their online listings and negligence on property maintenance. At first, everything appeared to be great, but COCKROACHES and other serious issues became apparent: - Ants were everywhere. On the counters, in the beds, on the floors. We were picking them off of us the entire week and we had to throw out much of our food despite how tightly we tied the bags. - COCKROACHES. And no...they weren't water bugs. We saw at least 1 cockroach on each floor. This is completely unacceptable. - Broken light on the 2nd level deck and there were other various lights that did not turn on. - Broken chairs were present on the deck, in the kitchen, and in the living room. - Disgusting mold on the curtain in the top floor shower. - The 1st floor toilet did not work at all. It flushed...but doesn't drained. We spent plenty of time trying to plunge it to no avail. - Kitchen corner cabinet hinge is broken. Other cabinets at paint chipping off. - Not sure what was going on with the "deck" around the pool. There was a layer of fabric over what appears to be green putting green material that a couple people almost tripped over. - Hammock chain was almost rusted through. For the money we paid for the house...we expected more. At the very least, we expected not to have to consistently kill ANTS AND COCKROACHES. Even worse...Sun Realty was dismissive after I called on our second day there and never sent anyone out to fix the situation. After emailing the owner and Sun Realty there was not even an apology offered.

Up one arrival, you notice the jaw dropping size of this rental/wedding venue! When you enter the house, you are quickly amazed by the giant double sided bar with a shuffleboard, fooseball table, and an electronic darts game. On one side of the room, there is a bathroom with three sinks and three individual stalls. Next to that, there is a makeshift gym (bring your own equipment). On the other side of the bar, there is an aquarium that looks into the theater with wall to wall surround sound. This floor connects you to the back patio/pool area. On the second floor, there is a chef's kitchen, a smaller kitchen, ginormous dining area, two patios, and a sitting room with a fire place. The third floor is the private honeymoon suite with a patio. This house has two wings with a first and second floor. All floors have a washer and dryer (4 washers and 4 dryers in the house total). There are 24 bedrooms in all and each bedroom had a full size bath, king sized bed, and a private patio overlooking the pool. Each wing has a bunk bed room sleeping 6 in each room. The back patio has two bars, two grills, two hot tubs, PLENTY of seating and lounge chairs, a ping pong table, a gated pool (about 5ft deep), and a large shaded area to host a wedding. This house is MASSIVE and apparently popular in the Outer Banks. Many of the 4x4 tours were stopping to talk about this house. This house is just a small walk away from the beach. This house includes almost everything you need. It has clean linens, towels, pillows, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. It also has a full sized kitchen with 3 coffee makers, 4 dishwashers, tons of plates and silverware, pots/pans...it's fully stocked. All you need is food, body wash, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, paper towels, and maybe extra toilet paper as there is only one roll per room (though I did give everyone the idea to take some from the rooms that weren't being used). But that's not all! Don't no need to bring ice because there are a whopping 4 ice makers in the house as well as three refrigerators and two freezers. I can go on and on about how amazing this house is but I'll let the photos do the talking. And yes, there are wild horses in the beach!! It's a wonderful house if you can afford the whopping $29k for the week. Luckily, I was here for work and got to enjoy the beauty without spending a penny.
