Pans catching some leaks and a very wet carpet
    E T.

We rented Flights of Fancy 478. Not cheap. We rented during COVID (middle of June) and were told bedding would be left wrapped in plastic on each bed and that there would be no bedspreads, but washed blankets would be in closets. Many of the beds were made (which was fine) and the blankets that were available were wadded up in a couple closets and clearly not remotely clean. Almost every blanket I pulled out had knotted hair and/or bits of stuck on Doritos and other choice food items clinging to it. There was trash greeting us when we pulled into the driveway. Random bits of whatever the last person left and whatever had possibly blown in, but more likely what was left behind. I didn't even open the outdoor shower because of the random items peeking out at me from under the walls. There was trash under (I do not exaggerate) every bed. There was even a half-eaten PopTart on one of the top bunks (that got tossed in a gross-out panic by my daughter before I could take a photo). Open food, wrappers, drink bottles... And then the rain. It rained the first few days we were there. Then it started to rain inside. The leaks came through the roof into the master and master bathroom. This was clearly not the first time, based on all the stains on the ceilings and walls. We put out pans and bowls to catch the rain. We arrived on the 14th. On the 15th I emailed CCV to let them know about the trash and the leaks. They responded offering housekeeping to come back and asked about the leaks. I did not take them up in housekeeping, and told them the trash would remain under the beds and in the carport. I did not feel like having people in the house-- we've been sheltering in place for months, why are we going to invite people in to do another half-assed job when we have nowhere else to go while they clean? I sent them photos of the leaks. I sent them photos of the leaks and did not hear anything for two days. I sent photos to the main email and to the maintenance email. The house has new carpet, which I found strange since the house allows dogs. Who carpets a dog house? Clearly someone who's had a flood. No one emailed me back and no one called and the water started coming into the floor below. Then the ceiling in the main floor bedroom, where my daughter was sleeping, started to buckle and the popcorn started falling off in sheets. I finally called and spoke to someone at CCV. I let them know I couldn't believe the zero response to my emails. Maintenance came over after that. The ceiling was bulging and had dropped into the bathroom. The smell was awful. (Mold.) The maintenance guys were impressed. They said they'd have to send over a contractor. Here I am, trying to avoid people who are in my house at home, only to have to deal with this house where they are inconveniencing me so they can rent it out the next week. As the leaks got worse, I continued to send photos to CCV. I asked to talk to a manager and was put on hold for no one to ever pick up. I emailed several more times, as well as left voice messages for the property manager-- Whom I have STILL not heard from. The contractor came WITHOUT A MASK and said there was no way he could deal with this big of a problem (no kidding). We had to leave two and a half days early. The weather was great and the leaks had dried up, but the smell, and obvious mold, in the house were too much to deal with. And if it rained again, we just didn't want to deal with any of it anymore. The fact that no one addressed any of our very serious concerns while we were there was disappointing and froBecause everything is paid for ahead of time, why would they care, really? They have nothing to lose.

Found on the last day....the broken shower piece

They rented us a very expensive house, knowing after the contractors and their families (approximately 18 ppl) left the house filthy! Sanding, paint dust EVERYWHERE!!! The bottom of your shoes were white from the dust! Paint droppings everywhere. Dried food on the table...a half cut lime in the silverware drawer, disgusting! Both dishwasher filled with dishes! I had to wash all bedding before the others arrived because of the contractors dust! Broken shower in main level bath. Toilet paper rods missing. Towel rods missing. We couldn't use any outdoor furniture because it was covered in blackish built up dirt, obviously never cleaned. When we arrived Thursday, at check in, they let us know it would be a little past check in, as the construction/painters were cleaning up.....it was workers of the real estate office, there documenting the damage the workers had left. She offered a cleaning crew to us, before the rest of the family arrived from Florida and Maryland. I called the number and took them up on that...they said it wouldn't be until Friday. Finally mid day 2 ladies show up and we let them know about all of the dust....everywhere, furniture, bed frames....EVERYWHERE!!! Oh and I might add hair in the bathrooms....they went through this 3 story house in less than a half an hour, and left! They told us, "we were here yesterday day and cleaned" lol well I can see why it was so dirty! Saturday night we pushed the couch a little back, as we were playing the oculus game....there were empty yogurt cups under there! The real estate office is responsible for these cleaners to do their jobs!! I might add, they refunded me a couple hundred dollars. Yeah that made it all better.......NOT! This office was unprofessional and didn't care once they had our money! We absolutely loved the actual house! Beautiful with an amazing view! I pray the owners find out what's going on, and cares! It's a shame this real estate office doesn't care what we endured! We made the most of it, but unfortunately because of all the dust a few of us returned home sick! I won't let one bad visit stop us from returning, as we live the OBX!!!!!

The listing was inaccurate, and several amenities that were clearly advertised were either broken or not available at all. Some bathrooms didn't even have basic supplies like toilet paper. One shower had such low water pressure it was completely unusable. The dishwasher was broken for the entire week, which meant hand-washing dishes for 14 guests, three meals a day, for seven days. That is not what anyone signs up for on vacation. The house itself was not properly cleaned. There were cobwebs on multiple surfaces, visible rust throughout, and an overall neglected feel. For the price we paid, the condition of the property was unacceptable. Customer service was effectively nonexistent. We reported the issues, and nothing meaningful was done to resolve them during our stay. There was no urgency, no accountability, and no effort to make things right. Also worth noting: reviews appear to be filtered, showing only glowing feedback. Based on our experience, you are not getting the full picture when you read the listings. For the amount of money these homes command, expectations should be much higher. We would strongly recommend considering another rental company. You've been warned. Terrible consistent reviews on TrustPilot, Yelp and many other pages. The feeling is clearly unanimous and Twiddy clearly does not care.

I'm naming the property because I wish I had found the reviews on independent sites before we booked. The home had significant cleanliness and maintenance issues upon arrival, including an ant infestation, dirty/stained furnishings, severely rusted outdoor furniture, and a pool area continually covered with pine needles and debris. The advertised tiki bar and second-floor patio area were effectively unusable for our entire stay because of the condition of the furniture and bug infestation. To Brindley Beach's credit, after repeated complaints they eventually sent management, housekeeping, pest control, upholstery cleaning, and other personnel to the house. However, most of this did not happen until the fifth day of our seven-day vacation. Their own housekeeping representative identified additional cleanliness problems beyond those we had reported, and the rusted tiki stools were ultimately removed but never replaced. After our vacation, we requested a reasonable partial refund--not a full refund. Brindley Beach refused, stating that the home remained "habitable" and citing its rental agreement. They did offer to reimburse us for pest-control and other supplies we had to purchase ourselves. What is especially frustrating is that Sounds Amazing appears to have overwhelmingly positive reviews on Brindley Beach's website. After our experience, I searched independent platforms and found significantly more critical reviews of both this property and Brindley Beach that I wish I had seen before booking. My advice: research the specific property on independent review sites before booking through Brindley Beach and don't rely solely on the reviews displayed on their website. Our vacation rental was absolutely not the experience we expected based on how this property was represented. Brindley Beach is a never again for us. We had to make a nuisance of ourselves to get their attention to come fix their poorly maintained property. I feel bad for the owner who is probably paying them good money to take care of his property.

We were so very excited to stay at this home again after being married here in 2007 and staying two times previously. Unfortunately, within a couple hours of arrival, the house caught on fire. One outlet went up in flames, another burned inside the wall. We called the fire department and also the rental agency. Thankfully the fire department was easier to get a hold of - I kept getting punted to voicemail for Sun until about an hour later they closed and I was able to go through to their emergency line. LONG story short: Sun did send out an electrician that night but were kind of wishy washy if they were going to. Thank god they did bc the electrician found another outlet that had obviously been on fire upstairs. The downstairs outlet went up in flames when (unknown to those of us outside cleaning/watching kids in pool) one of the people staying there noticed power was out in half the house and flipped the breaker that was tripped which is when the fire started. What's scary is that the breaker didn't trip again - we had to manually turn it back off. It never tripped for the one upstairs. Needless to say, we all slept with one eye open that week after this. Over the week there were numerous safety concerns: a board not nailed down on the stairs to the beach that flipped up and nearly dumped someone about 10' down to the beach, quite a few wasp nests, a defective smoke alarm that didn't stop chirping despite batteries being changed, tripped GFI outlets outside that weren't replaced/addressed, loose outlets that caused the lights to flicker/surge, switches that were glitchy due to water leaking on them from the front window... it's so much that I literally forget everything that was wrong. Then there was just the annoying/cosmetic things like fire ants in the dining room, a toilet turned off, two water bubbles in the ceiling causing paint to flake off in one room, and the house was definitely not cleaned before we arrived (the kitchen was sticky everywhere, towels left in the washer, floor sandy and dirty etc)., most of the rooms didn't have screens for the windows and some of the rooms were missing screens for the sliders, a few of the sliders were impossible to open... again, I could go on but you get the gist. Sun did send maintenance out to fix most of the problems but it did impact our trip constantly having to make literal lists of all the issues and be waiting at the house to walk them through what was wrong because often they didn't have an idea of what the problem of the day was. This was beyond the normal "tired" home at the end of the season or high expectations not being met. I've been coming to the OBX for 40 years and this home in particular for 20. I know that oceanfront homes especially get worn quickly, that at the end of the season things are a bit beat up and that sometimes stuff is sticky. In my 40 years of renting I've NEVER had to call a realty company for anything - this is not how I normally roll. If the house is dirty, I clean it. If things are missing I can live without, I ignore it. You can't ignore safety issues like this, especially when people recently died in a fire in the OBX. We were told we couldn't be moved which we understood due to the lack of inventory but I think it's fair that we get some partial refund but there's been silence on that end. If you are looking to rent Tequila Sunrise in Whalehead Beach, I would ask for current photos before making the booking. It pains me to warn others but what we encountered was beyond cosmetic issues.

UPDATE: I tried to handle this matter privately but was unsuccessful. Sun Realty has since removed my negative feedback shared on their website listing and on Facebook. They should really be investigated by the Better Business Bureau or whatever association oversees realtors in North Carolina for their blatant inaccuracies in their online listings and negligence on property maintenance. At first, everything appeared to be great, but COCKROACHES and other serious issues became apparent: - Ants were everywhere. On the counters, in the beds, on the floors. We were picking them off of us the entire week and we had to throw out much of our food despite how tightly we tied the bags. - COCKROACHES. And no...they weren't water bugs. We saw at least 1 cockroach on each floor. This is completely unacceptable. - Broken light on the 2nd level deck and there were other various lights that did not turn on. - Broken chairs were present on the deck, in the kitchen, and in the living room. - Disgusting mold on the curtain in the top floor shower. - The 1st floor toilet did not work at all. It flushed...but doesn't drained. We spent plenty of time trying to plunge it to no avail. - Kitchen corner cabinet hinge is broken. Other cabinets at paint chipping off. - Not sure what was going on with the "deck" around the pool. There was a layer of fabric over what appears to be green putting green material that a couple people almost tripped over. - Hammock chain was almost rusted through. For the money we paid for the house...we expected more. At the very least, we expected not to have to consistently kill ANTS AND COCKROACHES. Even worse...Sun Realty was dismissive after I called on our second day there and never sent anyone out to fix the situation. After emailing the owner and Sun Realty there was not even an apology offered.

Up one arrival, you notice the jaw dropping size of this rental/wedding venue! When you enter the house, you are quickly amazed by the giant double sided bar with a shuffleboard, fooseball table, and an electronic darts game. On one side of the room, there is a bathroom with three sinks and three individual stalls. Next to that, there is a makeshift gym (bring your own equipment). On the other side of the bar, there is an aquarium that looks into the theater with wall to wall surround sound. This floor connects you to the back patio/pool area. On the second floor, there is a chef's kitchen, a smaller kitchen, ginormous dining area, two patios, and a sitting room with a fire place. The third floor is the private honeymoon suite with a patio. This house has two wings with a first and second floor. All floors have a washer and dryer (4 washers and 4 dryers in the house total). There are 24 bedrooms in all and each bedroom had a full size bath, king sized bed, and a private patio overlooking the pool. Each wing has a bunk bed room sleeping 6 in each room. The back patio has two bars, two grills, two hot tubs, PLENTY of seating and lounge chairs, a ping pong table, a gated pool (about 5ft deep), and a large shaded area to host a wedding. This house is MASSIVE and apparently popular in the Outer Banks. Many of the 4x4 tours were stopping to talk about this house. This house is just a small walk away from the beach. This house includes almost everything you need. It has clean linens, towels, pillows, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. It also has a full sized kitchen with 3 coffee makers, 4 dishwashers, tons of plates and silverware, pots/pans...it's fully stocked. All you need is food, body wash, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, paper towels, and maybe extra toilet paper as there is only one roll per room (though I did give everyone the idea to take some from the rooms that weren't being used). But that's not all! Don't no need to bring ice because there are a whopping 4 ice makers in the house as well as three refrigerators and two freezers. I can go on and on about how amazing this house is but I'll let the photos do the talking. And yes, there are wild horses in the beach!! It's a wonderful house if you can afford the whopping $29k for the week. Luckily, I was here for work and got to enjoy the beauty without spending a penny.
