The campground has a new owner and he's doing a great job fixing up the place. He just installed 2 pickleball courts and a bocce court. The bathrooms have been redone as well as the showers. There's a swimming area at the sound and the fishing pier is nice. He also added full hook-ups to a few more sites. We've enjoyed our stay and will be back soon. read more

This little place was a pleasant surprise. We had a group of about 14 and we were tent camping. We got a spot right on the water, the views were amazing. There was a tiny bathhouse with 2 stalls and 1 single person outdoor shower. Camp host was super friendly, the park was very clean. This is a no frills camp ground, if your looking for. KOA this isn't it. But if your looking for a older but well maintained, clean campground, with amazing views that is a short drive to activities then this May be the spot for you. Quiet hour is at 10pm and the campground did quiet down. At some point before quiet hour there was people singing on a Karaoke machine but it was done before quiet hour. I would recommend water shoes as the water has a lot of shells right as you enter. We were there on a very busy 4th of July weekend and it ended up being just perfect. read more

Great place to have a camper or setup a tent. Good bathrooms and right on the water. Pretty quiet and not too far from dining.

I would like to give Bells Island Campground five stars but Yelp keeps removing my reviews as not recommended, so I am trying four stars. Bells Island Campground is our little slice of paradise! It is located on the Currituck Sound. We have had a camper there for six years. My husband and I, our family, children, grandchildren and friends enjoy, swimming, sailing, boating, jet skiing, kayaking, fishing, cornhole, making hobo pies and roasting marshmallows over a camp fire. In the evening the kids enjoy playing volleyball, tag, hide and seek and performing impromptu karaoke. My children like to set up their tents next to the water and love the beautiful sunrise over sound. The campground is small, peaceful and neighborly with a positive family atmosphere. On a holiday weekend like Memorial Day weekend there are many more campers than on an average weekend. read more

Well, I struggled with this review. If I would have written the review within the first hour or two we were there...I would have given it 4 stars! The campgrounds are nice! It is in a quiet, nice location! I like that it is on the water away from everything. But, it is only a ten minute drive from our favorite BBQ place (Currituck BBQ). There are bathrooms and one shower. It was a simple check-in process. We got to choose where we wanted to set up our tent. We asked for a quiet location. So, the manager showed us a quiet, nice location away from most campers, etc. We set up camp and then started playing Bocce ball as a family. We were really enjoying our stay do far. Then, around 5:30pm we started noticing tons of people heading right towards our tent with chairs/coolers. We had no idea what was going on. By 6:00pm there was a large circle of campers (mainly semi-permanent/permanent campers) around a bonfire right next to our tent. There were about 30 people at this point. Then they all start drinking and turn on a portable karaoke machine. We felt like we were at a loud karaoke bar!!! Not the quiet, peaceful campgrounds we were hoping for. The crowd got bigger, louder, and drinker as the next hour passed. It was time for our two little kids to go to sleep and we decided to go ask the manager if we could move (even though that meant taking down the tent and cots, etc) to a different location. We were informed there was not another location. So we tried to tough it out. About 9:30pm my son came out of tent tired and upset and said he can't sleep. I don't blame him, it was SO loud. My husband tried talking with a few of the campers. Apparently this is a nightly tradition of theirs. The party was just getting started. So, in the complete dark...we packed up our kids and things in the car...took down the tent and drove home. We will not be returning here. read more

Not what we expected from the ratings it got. A mobile home park and not well maintained. Not worth the stop.

I am having a hard time writing a review. The views of the sound from the campground are stunning. The bathrooms have 2 toilets, which are dated but clean. The shower - it's an outdoor shower and I certainly would not want to use it with people I don't know roaming around. The owners only accepted cash (strange), and did nothing to help us with our "neighbors" who had all of their stuff on our site. We could not set-up anything (mat, grill, chairs, etc) because of it. Make sure that you come with enough sewer hose, as the connections are at the very rear of the site. They charge per adult for any more than 2. They are pet friendly, however there is a large (unneutered) dog next door to the campground who roams free, and almost started a fight with one of our dogs who was leashed. There is nothing else in the area, so they have a monopoly on the camping here, unfortunately. read more

Campground does not have showers. It floods easy when it rains. When you park on grass your tires will sink. I do not recommend this campground. read more

Thiis is a great place to come and relax, fish, or cruise on the Currituck Sound in your boat, kayak, canoe, or jet ski. We love to see and take pictures of the local wildlife, such as ducks and cranes. Friendly, helpful owners and fellow campers. The owners don't hesitate to help if you have any questions, or should by chance a problem arise, they are only 5 minutes away. We love to visit and enjoy the peace ,safety, & quiet of this awesome spot. The Outer Banks is only 30 minutes away, but our family prefers to spend our nights away from the crowds in a place that is quiet, and where we feel safe and secure. read more

We found Bell's Island Campground as we do so many of our destinations, by google search. The website is top hotch and we were really looking forward to camping in such a picturesque site. My hat is off to the webmaster because we were quite disappointed. The owners were pleasant enough even though the welcome we received upon arrival was a wave of the hand signaling "follow me". The site in which we were to park was so small that we were not able to fully utilize our slide-outs or our awning. Our back-door neighbor could not completely lift the cover of his outside kitchen and our next door neighbor had to move their chairs. If you must be in the general area and you have no other choice be sure to bring cash as this campground operates by cash only. If your intention is to visit the outer banks area to see the various sites, Bell's Island is convenient only to a very few attractions. Now for the pros: the fellow campers were pleasant and friendly and seemed to accept that the sites were minimal. The drive out to the campsite is scenic. The nearby farm stand has great pies. read more

We have been camping at this campground on and off for 15 years. Located directly on the Currituck Sound the views are amazing and the sunsets and sunrises are breathtaking. It is very family friendly and the swimming is great for children. It is quiet, clean and the best kept secret in Currituck. They offer full service hook-up as well as tent camping. The restrooms and shower are always clean. I would highly recommend this location if you are looking for a peaceful and beautiful place to relax. read more

Folks, this is a "campground" not an RV resort. It is in a wonderful quiet location away from all the tourism yet only an hour away from it all. The previous reviewer was not completely honest in their review, so let me rebut a few things. We have been staying here for many months for work. The sites here are close together as it's been around longer than most of the huge RVs of today, so you can expect to be a little crowded on the holiday weekends. Otherwise, they will space you out according to your needs. As far as the bathrooms go, why would you complain about them if you're camping in a $60k+ RV as they were? Be realistic. There is definitely room for your outside chairs and such. While they were here, it was raining and wouldn't have been outside anyway. Oh, and they failed to mention that when they pulled out, they didn't pull out onto the gravel road like those with big RVs before them. Nope, straight out into the leach field. And buried all their tires and made a mess of the field. Good grief. The owners are very nice people and do whatever they can to accommodate you. If you are looking for a fancy resort, then I would definitely not recommend a stay here. But, if you want peace and quiet and to be near the water, come on down! read more
