Waterside Resort…read more Just like previous reviews I read it really is in the middle of nowhere. It wasn't like any other property I have stayed at. Normally you go check in at the front desk and there's someone there to help you whenever you need it. At this location the office is not open 24/7 and I think one of the apartments was converted to be partly the office. They do provide an after hours number. There are a lot of bugs. They have a couple bug traps around the property, but it really isn't enough. We saw a lot of gnats and spider webs. The trolley carts to take your bags up to your room were rusty and you couldn't put too much on it or the tires would go flat. We were worried that this was going to be a mistake. When we finally got our keys and went into our room It was completely different. The space is a generous size. The kitchen is huge. I wish my kitchen was that big. The first bedroom had a separate shower and tub. The tub had jets, but I didn't know how to work them so I couldn't get them to come on. The towels aren't very soft. We usually bring our own so that wasn't a big issue. Maintenance had to come to help with our remotes because they weren't working with the TVs. Apparently dish network remotes have to stay in the same room as the box. Maybe a suggestion on that would be to label the remotes with what room they go in because they are all the same. The beds. Were comfortable and everything was clean. They provide a washer and dryer, however our dryer wasn't drying the clothes. The office was closed that day and I called after hours and maintenance came over quickly. He did his best, but wasn't able to fix it. They offered to let me bring my clothes to the office to be dried and maintenance was very nice when we had to call. There is a large balcony with chairs and tables where you can sit outside and enjoy the view. The view is spectacular. The water is so calming and beautiful. The pool was cold, but I think that is to be expected in October. Not all of the jets worked in the hot tub and the water wasn't very hot. We didn't use the fire pit but they do have that as an option and they also have a BBQ with utensils. There is a cute gazebo with chairs that you can sit in and just enjoy the quiet and the water . There is a small town across the bridge called Edenton. A lot of places were closed during the week. We didn't get to go into the lighthouse, but we went into one of the other houses that had a bookstore. The people in there were really friendly and told us some history about the town. I do recommend checking it out. It does have its own little history. They have a couple of restaurants that aren't too pricey, and have decent food. It's not the best I've had, but it's also not the worst. We drove over to a Piggly Wiggly, which was about 20 minutes away in Plymouth I think. That area was pretty scarce. They did have some fast food restaurants. I bought two packs of meat at the store so I can make two meals in our room. The meat went bad after only a day. I recommend going to the Food Lion instead . They have a Food Lion in Edenton, which was nice and convenient. There is a Walmart about 45 minutes away and the best way to tell I'm not a country girl is my excitement to see a Starbucks lol. If you are looking for a place to go relax and be left alone, this is the place for you. It's perfect for sitting outside and reading a book. We played games every night and it was a really nice place just hang out with your family. I don't think it was worth 215,000 points though.

The only screw-pile lighthouse still standing in North Carolina is the Roanoke River Lighthouse…read morenear Edenton, a unique and durable piece of maritime history. It was constructed in 1886 and lit in 1887 with the intention of directing ships into the Roanoke River from the Albemarle Sound. An inventive answer to the delicate, changing soils of coastal rivers was its distinctive screw-pile foundation, which consisted of steel pilings that were physically screwed into the riverbed. In contrast to the majority of lighthouses of its type, this one was two floors tall and had a lantern tower with a fourth-order Fresnel lens positioned on a corner of the roof instead of in the middle. The Coast Guard sold the lighthouse to Elijah Tate in 1955 after it was discontinued in 1941 because of dwindling river traffic. The building was severely damaged by Hurricane Isabel in 2003, which led to a preservation effort. With the help of the public and private sectors, the Edenton Historical Commission bought it in 2007, relocated it to Colonial Waterfront Park, and repaired it. It now proudly sits on Edenton's port as a museum and a testament to the tenacity of the local community and historical preservation. The lighthouse is free to tour and the "grounds" are accessible 24 hours. It is well worth a stop. We really enjoyed the ride and all the history they shared with us along the way. It was a hot day but the temperature inside the trolley was comfortable. Barbara's extensive knowledge of the area and Clayton's visible enthusiasm for the tour really exemplifies the magnificent people of downtown Edenton and the sense of community that's obvious as soon as you get out of your car to explore. The ride might not be the best choice if you have small children with you as they would likely find it boring. Buy tickets for the trolley at the Penelope Barker house right across the street from where the trolley is parked. Don't miss this!

There were 2 downstairs living rooms and 2 giant tables for dinners. The kitchen is fully stocked with lots of various plates and great cookware. The electric stove and microwave worked perfectly. There is a game room downstairs and another coffee bar and table upstairs. There are a lot of suites with attached bathrooms and sitting areas that fold out into additional beds. The floor is solid and lots of pretty crown molding. We had a very nice time. The area is very safe and has lots of walking paths and a nearby restaurant that kids can walk to by the docks.

I was told house was built as an all girls school back in the 1800s and later converted. Its a really beautiful old building. Lots of big rooms with an amazing amount of entertainment space for large friend/family gatherings. Also, its less than a mile from Mackey's Marina which has access to the Albermarle sound great for fishing. Then, The Landing at Mackey's is a restaurant open Thursday through Sunday only but has great food and a full bar with occasional live music and karaoke. This is a sweet gem with obviously lots of care given.
