I was eagerly anticipating the completion of Sun King for several months leading up to the grand opening on the Monon in Carmel, mainly because I didn't quite understand the format of how everything is supposed to work inside. We've been here several times now, and I can say that I'm very impressed. I'll focus on the one item that I've become obsessed over: The pizza restaurant is up on the second floor, and it's called "Specialty Pi", and they're knocking it out of the park. The Figgy Piggy is the best craft pizza I've had in a long time, and this place does an excellent job at filling the massive void left by the closure of Crust Pizzeria. I'll eventually get over the latest closing of Crust, but not today. Anyway, I highly recommend Sun King. It's got it all: Great beer and cocktails, an absolute perfect location, and the best craft pizza in town. read more

Great variety of Sun King beer + spirits. The mixed drinks are tasty and there are plenty of N/A options. This set-up is "Food Hall style" so you'll have a waitress for drinks, but you'll go to your favorite food station for snacks or a meal - they'll give you a pager so you can continue drinking with friends while they prepare your noms. During COVID, there is plenty of space to eat indoors or outdoors safely - masks required when not eating. The patio is a great spot, but it does get HOT up there in the summer. No worries, seating is all open so you can move around the whole tome you're there if you want! I always park in the (free) garage but friends have good luck with (free) street parking. read more

Can't believe this is my first time here! I absolutely love it!!! I walked in and it reminded me of a small food court. There are 2 levels you can choose wherever you want to sit at. Then you order your alcoholic beverages. After putting in your order with the waiter/ waitress you can then order from the 4 different restaurants. Choose from your all American burger joint, Mexican, pizza, or sandwich, noodle, and salad place. They even have an area that they sell souvenir items. They also have board games you can bring to the table and play with your friends. I opted for a salad and pepperoni breadsticks from Castagnetti's. The salad was good but a bit pricey. It was $7.50 for a small bowl. I didn't get a chance to take a photo but the pepperoni breadsticks was really good! The pepperoni and cheese ratio was on point! I was not a fan of their cheese dipping sauce. It was not hot nor gooey like I would have liked. I was expecting something along the lines of nacho cheese. With this order, you get 2 for roughly $7. To be completely honest Sun King is not my craft beer of choice by any means but they've got super fun cocktails, sangrias and slushies that aren't over priced and they're great. The outside space is fantastic, the patio up top is awesome, it's got two bars, a fireplace and certainly enough choices for food. I love the concept and have been pleased with all that I've had here! I've tried the chicken tenders and fries (get the ranch!) I've had the chips and queso, the fried mozzarella and a slider, all pretty good. A small bummer that only a select amount of cans can be purchased to take outside but I'll be back without question. read more

Seems like a cool spot and of course I do love all the Sun King product. BUT... service here... uhm... what service? And it wasn't as if the place was busy. There were 2 tables and (including myself) 3 people at the bar. Even with so few people in there, it was loud as all can be. The acoustics here are horrible. A guy down the bar from me, tried several time to get one of the bartender's attention, to no avail. He even called them by name, nope, still no reaction. At one point one came close, but then instead of getting his check as requested, the lady opened the register took out the drawer, turned her back and walked away to put it in the other register. She never came back. The guy eventually gave up and just left some money under his glass. So when the barkeep was accidentally near me, I pretty much yelled at her to get me check. I wasn't' quite done, but figured it may take a while, which it did. Glad I only came in for a drink and didn't attempt to purchase food or anything outrageous like that. The facility itself is fabulous, very trendy. Looks like the doors can be opened all the way in the summer time given you the outdoorsy feel. I love the entire concept of Sun King! It combines a few of my favorite things: good drinks, delicious food, and a chill atmosphere fitting for good conversation, games, and sports. For a Friday evening, Sun King was a bit crowded but the service was great (a waiter will take your drink order and you place your food order at the specific counter location) and all of the people inside the establishment worked together to share tables to accommodate. I chose to keep it simple and just ordered a pizza, which was pretty good, but not the best. When I go back I'd like to try some of the Mexican food available, many customers had an order of nachos which looked absolutely superb! I must have missed the memo. My margarita was good as well. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. The beers here are pedestrian at best, but the service is even worse. Be prepared to be underwhelmed if you come here, especially if there's a bartender named Michael with a Tin Cup hat turned around backwards. Probably the worst bartender I've ever seen. We went to Sunking on a Friday night for a private event. The event did nit have food.. After attending the event, we left the event. ordered and paid for pizza, and we were eating it at a table. Within a few minutes we were approached by someone who said he was the "highest ranking manager" there, and that we could not sit at the tables because we were part of the private party. I told the manager that we left the private party to order/pay for the pizza we were eating. Manager then said that it didn't matter," the party host didn't reserve the table we were at" It didn't make sense. I asked manager "if I came in off the street, ordered /paid for pizza where would I sit?" Manager confirmed that in THAT case, I could sit at the table, but since I was with the party (I left the party) I wasn't allowed to sit there. it made no sense. We paid for it, and it's regardless of whether or not we originated from the private party, we independently paid for our food. it was legit so weird. Additionally, they weren't busy. Plenty of empty tables. I would understand if we were spilling out of the event with event food, but that was not the case. We paid for it. So inappropriat. Wow. What a neat spot. My hubby and I went on a Friday evening around 7 pm and had an absolute blast. We are big fans of Sun King beer. We are not from Carmel so I'm not sure if this place is always busy but it does take a few minutes to find a table inside. There are two levels with outside seating on both levels. There is also other outside seating in a big yard with games and couches (you can't take glass outside though) You find a seat and order your drinks (beer, spirits, slushees) at the table. Then you get up and order your food at 1 of the 4 "restaurants". Similar to a food court. They have pizza, Mexican, a burger/fry shop and then a charcuterie type spot. We chose Mexican and absolutely loved our food. It was definitely the most popular. We started with the Sunlight jalapeno beer queso and chips. I choose the Wee Machaca Buritto Bowl and the braised beef was so tender and delicious. It made the bowl perfect. I also really enjoyed the guacamole. My husband ordered the chicken taco salad. Super impressed with this facility near 131st street and the Monon trail. Outside they have ping pong, bean bag toss, couches and green space. It really looks festive from the trail! Inside they have 2 bars one on each floor and a dining area outside on the 2nd floor patio. 3 individually owned restaurants lease space inside and you are sure to find something unique and totally delicious here. Families are welcome and kids seem to love all the options for fun here. What a great meet up place and very nice for groups where everyone wants something different. However, Sun King actually distills their spirits at this location. When you walk inside, it's very open and there is plenty of seating and places where you can get food like in a food court. In fact, you have to pay for your food at each food station. So it's basically like they have food trucks but they're inside of the building! The four food places have pizza, sliders, tacos, and sandwiches. There is a fireplace on the second floor with cozy seating in that area to make it nice and comfy in the winter time or whenever it's cold out. The location is on the Monon trail in downtown Carmel. It's an up and coming area with lots of apartments and new construction. There's some street parking and a parking garage nearby. read more

Definitely mixed feelings after visiting for the first time. I like the concept - what a great way to make sure everybody is happy with the food and drink selection! - but at the same time, it felt like there were a few things that brought down our experience a few notches. We went at 7pm on a Friday night, so we expected it to be busy. What we didn't expect was that there would be no system for seating - you just have to keep an eye open and grab a table as someone leaves, or hope you can squeeze your party in with another group. We went at peak time so we assumed there would be some waiting involved, and thankfully we had luck grabbing a table quickly, but it feels like this space is just too small for the concept and number of people desiring to go there. Our food was fine. We had dishes from OCA, La Margarita, and The Den. We weren't super impressed with the charcuterie board we got at OCA, but the dishes from La Margarita were so good and generously portioned! Drinks were fine, I loved the option to grab a slushie flight! As some other reviewers mentioned, it's super loud in here. I think it's a fine spot for a group meal, but if conversation is a priority this spot during peak times won't be a great option. Overall, we had a fine experience. I'm not sure we would go back again just based on the scarcity of space/a system to get people seated, but it was a cool spot to check out on a night out! Is it too soon to go back again tonight?! My husband and I seriously fell in love with this place. The space is huge (two levels) and they have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. We sat at the bar which was actually pretty empty for 7pm on a Friday evening. We had three bartenders make our drinks throughout the night and they were all fantastic. We tried the following drinks: Phantom Old Fashioned, made with Sun King's new Batch No. 1 Whiskey, Monon Mule, the slushy flight (yes, it exists and it's awesome), Summer Sangria and my husband had some sort of expensive scotch on the rocks that had a long name, haha! I loved every cocktail we tried. They just started offering the slushy flights and I was excited to try them! I actually liked the non-alcoholic slushy the best. They give you a shot of whatever type of alcohol you want to mix in. I got it at the end of the night to fulfill my dessert craving. Now, onto the food...... We got the jalapeño beer queso from La Margarita and it was delicious! Not a super big portion of cheese but plenty of chips and they were light and well seasoned. We got sliders from The Den and they were great. I liked the buffalo the best and my husband liked the Carmel tenderloin. Sun King Spirits has great food and a great atmosphere. I ate at the sandwich shop on the first floor and got their flagship sandwich. It was cold with various Italian meats and had jalapeños, mayo, thick tomato sauce and was on a baguette! It was great! My friend ate at La Margherita and had the salad bowl (similar to a Chipotle burrito and enjoyed it a lot), my husband ate at the Den by Fox Garden and enjoyed the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich with slaw!
