I had my truck looked at at the dealership and was given a very high quote to repair/replace camshaft and lifters on my truck. So I called around to get a few more quotes and Sun Devil was able to give me a very good price... The gentlemen who I spoke with was very determined to get my business that he asked that once done calling around on quotes that I call him back before making any decisions. Because he was so determined for my business and the price was right, I decided to go with Sun Devil Auto. I called him back and scheduled to have my truck brought in that next day. So that next day I took my truck in and asked for the gentlemen who had given me the quotes and they said he no longer works at this location.... So I asked if they were able to honor his quote and they said they would do the best they could... Well when it was all said and done the quote came back and of course the price was higher than what the dealership quoted me!!! Update: I still like Sun Devil, however I felt they tried to oversell me at my last visit. My husband had over-charged my AC in my car causing the pressure to increase and the AC to blow hot- not a good thing in 100 degree weather. I took my car in for service and received a call that they were concerned that I needed to replace my compressor since the release valve had to let off the excess pressure in the system and they can't just replace the valve. Great suggestion, but I can't see attempting a $1000 fix for something non-safety related when a simple $120 service may suffice. Just a fair warning... read more

They did a good job on my car changing the oil. Took maybe 45 mins and scanned my coupon without any issues. They were helpful in telling me what was going on with my car afterwards. The price was good for the area, since most places around tend to charge more. Ended up paying about $20 for an oil change. On 03/05/2017 I took my 2005 Chevy 2500HD Duramax to Sun Devil Auto for a coolant leak. I Spoke with John the Manager and pointed out the turbo cooler that I thought might be leaking. I also told him a friend of mine said it was probably the coolant lines to the turbo as they often leak and drip down to where this leak is appearing. John (manager) informed me they would put it up on the lift to verify where the leak was.John called and said it was the oil cooler leaking and replaced it for $668.46. That night after the truck was parked in my driveway for two hours I noticed a puddle of coolant in the same location as before. On 03/24/2017 I returned again with the same leak in the same location. This time they removed the transmission and housing and said it was an o-ring in the transmission housing that was leaking for a cost of $544.17. On 04/06/2017 I returned to Sun Devil Auto for a fifth time with the same coolant leak. Again I spoke to the manager John and told him I was taking my truck to a Chevy Dealer to get it fixed and he said fine he would refund my money, just show him what the dealer found. John said they wanted to look at the truck first to make sure it wasn't just a hose leaking. The he called me and said it was the EGR Cooler leaking and I reluctantly gave him the ok to replace it thinking this would finally be it. The cost of the EGR Cooler replacement was $979.85. When I got the truck back, it still had the same coolant leak as the previous FIVE times at Sun Devil Auto. I took the truck to MIDWAY CHEVROLET and they replaced two coolant lines to the turbo. They also informed me that all the parts that were replaced by Sun Devil Auto rarely ever leak, the coolant lines to the turbo often leak over time. When I informed John at Sun Devil Auto that it was the coolant lines to the turbo he refunded my money for the first two repairs $668.46 and $544.17 but would not refund the $979.85 for the EGR cooler. I have the EGR cooler and installed plugs on the coolant line and pressure tested it at 60psi IT DID NOT LEAK the pressure of the coolant system on my truck is at 16psi. I called John the Manager at Sun Devil Auto and Montgomery the District Manager for Sun Devil Auto to show this pressure test to them but they did not want to see it. I have a video of this pressure test. USE AT OWN RISK !!!!!!!! They replaced 5 parts for a total of about $2100.00 and it STILL LEAKED. Dealer REPLACED the TURBO COOLANT LINES which FIXED the problem. read more

We had been going to this Sun Devil location for four years and had been generally pleased with the repairs, including a new engine at one point in time. Additionally, the manager, John, was always very friendly and willing to help us out with splitting our major repair bills in two and rental cars. As we only have one family car, we would wait in their lobby during all oil changes and short repair jobs that could be done in less than a day. During one of our recent visits, we happened to smell a terrible odor that made one of us very sick, having other preexisting health conditions. When we asked John about it, he explained that it was differential fluid, but to let them know and they could schedule our future visits for times when it wasn't happening. He even said it's no problem, you've been good customers for many years. We did that at least two time afterwards, and they scheduled us for when they wouldn't have differential fluid jobs. When it came time to schedule our next oil change, we called and spoke to John asking if there would be any differential fluids at that time. He said there weren't any scheduled for then but he couldn't guarantee that there wouldn't be as "he had a business to run." In fact, he was so unaccommodating he wasn't even willing to put the differential fluids in the furthest possible bay - this still would have made us terribly ill but perhaps not as ill; however, he wasn't even willing to do that. John took a full 180 without any warning. Apparently, all of a sudden, our many years of business weren't important to him. Our health must come first. We are presently searching for a new repair place, but this poor attitude won't have us looking at any Sun Devil location. read more

Usually I am not a bad review kind of person, but I could not be more frustrated and disappointed with my service at Sun Devil. Brought my car in today to have my brakes checked because I've been hearing a pressure/grinding sounds occasionally when I brake. I added an oil change as well. They called after an hour to say brakes looked fine. However I need quite a bit of maintenance. $900+. In fairness, I probably was due so I did half (500+). But was surprised to hear the brakes looked ok. So I had my husband do a test drive with me when we left the shop. And of course, noise was still there. I went back in to tell them and was treated like I was totally inconveniencing them. However, the front desk attendant did come out to test drive with me. Once again the noise was obviously there. Not sure how they failed to locate the noise. The attendant mentioned that the noise sounded "metal on metal" but never acknowledge the fact that his shop had completely missed it. So now after spending an entire day with my car in the shop, not to mention 500$ on services, I now have to take another day to find a competent auto shop to actually fix the problem I went in for. Definitely plan to contact corporate. So frustrating. read more

My family had used Sun Devil Auto for the last 5 years and I now have mixed feeling about this place... Came in for an oil change before heading out on a long trip for the weekend. The oil change was a pleasant experience with the very courteous staff wanting to take care of you from the beginning to finish. Here are some observations on the work done: 1. It was a full synthetic oil change but the reminder sticker was only 3K miles later. It's supposed to be 5K as they did it last time. I hope this is just plain poor quality control on the sticker part and not any kind of shady business trying to get unnecessary services, or worse that they use regular oil and charge customers full synthetic. 2. After driving about 300 miles, the check engine light came on... That literally throws a monkey wrench in the happy weekend getaway... Since I know my car and this had happened before, I inspected the vacuum lines in the emission control system and sure enough, a line was broken in half. Upon closer inspection I have to say that the line had became hardened so a strong twist or bend could break it clean off, but it's gotta be of force as I do not think the car vibration could have caused the breakage. Let's assume that someone broke it inadvertently, but what business did they have in this area of the engine compartment as the air filter and oil filter are in the different areas when they do the work, even with the included "complete inspection" as part of the oil change. Anyway, I temporarily wrapped electrical tape around the line, reset the check engine light and drove another 400 miles without the light coming back... I'm thinking it can't be a co-incident because the same line was disconnected once before. At that time, I didn't think much about it because the check engine light didn't come on until a couple weeks after because the emission fault takes time to confirm over a long distance drive. Again, there is no way in hell the line could have disconnected itself due to vibration... Sun Devil Auto is one of the only 3 service providers I use for car services (different services) and I'm thinking of qualifying another one unless they come clean in this incidence. read more

I took my 2003 Maxima into Sun Devil Auto on Bell Rd. The brake pedal felt mushy. I was told the car needed new front brake pads, rotors, and a new"booster". All this for only $1100. I took the car to Brake Master and they replaced the front brake pads and bled the system. Resurfaced the rotors and the car drives fine. $ 105 out the door! This is the second time I've received exorbitant and borderline fraudulent estimates from this location. Avoid Sun Devil Auto! read more

I thought I found a good place for service. I trusted them with my vehicle for over a year. They ruined my transmission and differential after I spent several thousands of dollars to have my car serviced there. Because they didn't check my differential fluids, which should have been serviced in a routine oil change when they check your fluids, they burnt up my transmission. Coincidentally within a week after I just had my car serviced there. And they said they aren't required to check this fluid, which requires pulling a simple dipstick. There are only four dipsticks. How long does it take to check a dipstick? read more

Good Stuff - Nice location, Clean Facility. Customer Service - Needs Work Not so Good Stuff - I have a specialized vechiel and I took the time to explain a procedure they would need to know to properly do their work. This information didn't get to their mechanic and he spent extra hours trying to figure it out. A couple of hours later they called me to the shop to show them as they couldn't move forward with the diagnosis. I returned to the shop and within minutes had them moving forward. The mechanic verbally let me know he was frustrated with me. After the diagnostic the mechanics and front desk were mad a me for not accepting their long list of items to repair. They clearly didn't listen when I told them I am here for ONE item to be repaired so please don't waste your time trying to upsell me on items I can do on my own. Again, another example of them not listening. I've been to this shop a couple of times, I've have bad experiences every time, and I will not return. read more

I went in for an oil change. That's how they fish. They bait you with a low priced oil change. While they were doing the oil change, this big guy comes to talk to me about a problem with my car. I've always taken very good care of my car, and had not noticed anything wrong. As he towered over me, he says that my brake pads are worn out and it's just a question of hours before they'll let go. Yes, he said HOURS! He put the pressure on me. He said the brake pads were worn thin and the rotors probably needed to be changed too. Tried to scare the **** out of me. He said, lucky for me, he had the spare parts to fix everything right away. It would cost $800. Wrote me a fancy estimate. I left without doing the work. That was three months ago. I've been driving for three months, and NO brake problems what so ever. My car did not blow up. Yesterday, I just went in to a totally different auto shop a block from my house, and they checked my brakes. Guess what? My brakes are in perfect condition and don't need any work! These guys at Sun Devil Auto are shamefully dishonest!!!!! They get you in their shop for a cheap oil change, then they look at your Carfax to see what has not been done on your car to find where they can rip you off, then they try to scare you into paying for something that doesn't exist. Being a car crook is no way to get business!!! read more

This place is good for a cheap oil change but they will sock it to you on any major repairs. They quoted me an outlandish price for an AC repair that my mechanic did for half the price. They also recommended a bunch of repairs that were very optional. Won't be going back unless I need a cheap oil change. read more

Took vehicle in for AC work, because a release valve burst end and released all my refrigerant. They fixed and filled it in about 90 mins (pretty quickly), and charged me about $180 which I thought was a deal. But the AC didn't seem quite as cold as before. Maybe 80% as cold, so I'm not sure if they used a different refrigerant, or what. Also, after the repair they said, "if you want really cold AC, you really should get that AC clutch fixed too." I didn't get it fixed then, but as I drove away I noticed the car now only has AC when *moving*, not standing/idling (which sucks with kids in the back and 120°F record highs). If the car isn't moving the AC actually blows hot air! This wasn't the case before I went there so now I don't know what happened. Maybe something they did loosened or broke it, or maybe it's just a coincidence. Now I gotta take it back in to fix this new problem......... read more

Well i will make this review as short as possible. If you want customer service that is rude, bossy, and unwilling to work with customers this is the place for you!! If you like to waste your weekend by arguing with the staff becuase they are not making any sense about the repairs call this place home. I brought my car in this past weekend to get it looked at, they called me back 4 hours later, told me the repairs that were needed and the cost. I couldnt afford all of it so i just wanted part of it completed but they told me no. They only do all or nothing....Yeah defenitely will never go back there again and make sure that you get all the facts before you drop your vehicle off.....P.s. if you have an older car that has rust dont bring it there becuase they will just tell you to buy a new vehicle!!! read more

Um, omg where do I start. Bought a used Infiniti G37 from Carmax about 6 weeks ago and bought the extended warranty to go along with it (in which this wonderful auto shop honors the $0 deductible!!). Two days ago I'm driving with my family to the Grand Canyon, and about 10 miles outside Camp Verde the car starts jerking and I pull over, get the AAA tow, etc. we pull into Carmax, which has their service center closed on the weekends.... So me being the emotional 20 yr old I am just start bursting into tears because I had just bought this car and there was already something going wrong with it. The ladies at the reception were very helpful and nice despite my destressed state and pointed me towards Sun Devil Auto, who were able to look at my car right away and immediately told me what was wrong in plain English and made me feel a MILLION times better. Like, I had never seen so many grown men in my life go to so many lengths to make a woman happy, lol. They assured me that they were going to order that part right away Monday morning from Infiniti (yes no aftermarket part!!) and that I should come in as early as I can. So context, I live in Tempe, but I was so blown away by the customer service that I received from Carlos, John and the whole team that even though there are much closer locations to my house, that the 50 minute drive in hellish Monday Morning Phoenix Traffic was ABSOLUTELY worth it. I was lucky that the problem with my car was only a problem in high altitude, so I could drive it in the valley just fine. If anything ever goes wrong with my car in the future (and just for routine maintenance in general), even after my warranty expires, my business will always be here at Sun Devil Auto on Bell Rd. 6750 W. Bell Rd location. I'm pretty mechanically inclined. I bring my vehicle in for fuel injectors. Had two other auto shops look at and give me estimates. Sun Devil won the job. After the repair I leave and my check engine light is on still. They recheck it and now tell me I need a sensor. $411. No chance. I ask them if this could have been caused by the work they did. "nope". I do my research and find out this sensor they say is bad is working just fine and the problem is caused by the work they did. I drive it after they check the check engine light issue... now the A/C blows hot. pop the hood, fresh freon on the hose leading to the compressor where they broke it. The A/C system was just worked on 6 months ago by another auto place!They tell me to bring it in, they will fix it, but not the sensor. I Wish integrity and honesty was part of their industry... clearly it's not. read more

To start off whom ever the tall white guy with glasses at the counter has to be one of the most dumbest and incompetent human being I have ever met. I was with my daughter and was talking to johnny (short brown guy with red shirt) she asked for a quote for brakes and he I asked if brakes were giving g issue now he was police gentleman then the other talk guy comes out of no were and interupted johnny. I have never been treated this well by an auto repair shop! John got me in with no notice on a transmission issue. Within 90 minutes I knew what was wrong with my car and what to expect. Given the pricy repairs, the oil change I also needed was given to me for free. Later, when another much smaller item was called for, they waived the labor cost. I was kept up to date through the whole process and they were even ready to give me a rental at their expense when it seemed like the part wasn't going to "take."
