Food was very good! I had the breakfast and my sister had a shrimp entree with coconut pineapple rice and green beans.

We drove 40 minutes to try this restaurant and we were not disappointed! Upon entering, the staff were friendly and the environment bright and inviting. I have multiple food allergies including one to dairy. It's difficult to find good food to eat out. Fortunately they have a vegan option...the big vegan breakfast. The rest of our party eat meat. This is truly a hidden gem that I hope more people find out about. Ms. Lo was our waitress and she was truly the mother I didn't know I needed. She was super sweet and attentive and wanted to ensure we enjoyed our food. I enjoy a waitress that is patience and explained all the dishes in detail. Now to the food! Let's just stay we left STUFFED because the food was too good and we didn't want to leave any behind! The portion sizes were just right! True southern food with amazing seasoning. I promised I tried to get the recipe for the mixed greens on my way out . We tried the seafood beggars to start filled with crab & shrimp that was super fresh and flavorful. 3 was just enough to prepare us for the main dish. The big breakfast was big and came with a drink!! Most places don't serve drinks without an additional charge but this homemade drink was the perfect addition I needed. The sides were seasoned perfectly with a creole touch, not spicy at all. The shrimp and grits were very light but rich. Usually with grits, they are typically grainy but this wasn't the case. This is a quaint restaurant with a nice atmosphere and good customer service. If going on a Sunday, go early because it does fill up quickly. Parking is ample. Music playing in the background was loud enough to hear but not so loud that we had to shout to be heard across the table which is appreciated. Food was really good and made to order but it came in a reasonable amount of time. We had the collard green eggrolls, sweet potato waffles, seafood beggars, and chicken and pancakes. I was excited to see they had vegan options but was disappointed. I placed my order online at 10:40 and was expecting it to be ready by 11:10. I arrived around 11:30 and was told my order was ready. The hostess went to the back several times but failed to come back with my food. Two or three more people came out of the back and finally someone asked if I was being helped. The original person came back out and I asked if she had said my food was ready. She said yes, she just needed to get it. I was left very confused about why it took 15 minutes for me to get my order that was already ready. As for the food, I ordered the vegan big breakfast, and it was anything but big. For $26 I was expecting to at least get full! It was also supposed to include fruit but did not. Maybe the portions for dine-in customers are bigger. Very disappointing experience. read more

So to bring in the New Year my husband and I decided to take a friend's recommendation and head to SFB for brunch. It was a group of four of us and the restaurant was practically empty. Upon arriving the hostess/ waiter mentioned she could not seat us until our party arrived. Our party was literally in the car. Customer service was not great to say the least. Food wasn't bad. Ambience: it's a very small restaurant. We saw most people ordering take out. Not really "that restaurant" that you would typically sit down and dine in. We waited at least 45 mins for our food. I ordered catfish over grits with a side of potatoes, my husband ordered the peach cobbler specialty chicken and waffles. The couple with us ordered sweet potato waffle and the Vegan Big Breakfast. I also ordered a peach Palmer to drink which was good. Let me say: the collard green egg rolls were not as good as the comments raves about. My husband enjoyed his peach waffle but his chicken under seasoned, I enjoyed the catfish and grits and the other couple enjoyed their food. Probably wouldn't go back but it wasn't bad. read more

As the got the group situated, the staff apologized for the wait and inconvenience. In reality, there wasn't a wait. The chicken was perfectly fried and juicy, and the eggs were perfectly moist just how I like my scrambled eggs. The pepperjack grits were some of the best I've had, and the pork sausage had the perfect consistency (not dry). I saved my waffle for last which I regret, and it was delicious! The fruity pebbles were not stale and if I didn't eat everything else, I surely would have finished this. The pancakes is where I took a star. The pancakes just did not taste fresh for me and the cook either did not know how to cook turkey bacon or didn't cook it. My first time at SFB was amazing! We came in a Tuesday so it wasn't very busy. Ms. Lo (whom was working the floor by herself) did an amazing job assisting with anything we needed. I ordered the sweet potato pancakes and chicken with a side of salmon (the menu is pretty set so I wasn't able to do salmon & pancakes like i wanted). The pancakes were the star of the show -- fresh, spiced, & perfectly sweetened. Chicken & salmon was also seasoned to perfection. The food did take awhile to come out but the menu states that they aren't a fast food restaurant so we had no problem waiting. The music playing throughout the space allowed the time to pass quickly. The ambiance was homely and intimate -- my party was chatting with the table next to us when we got our meal, they even put in an order for the pancakes after i INSISTED they get it! The customer service here is top notch! I came here on a Thursday afternoon and only one other couple was there. The staff was soooo friendly. I ordered their two most popular appetizers- the seafood beggars and the collard green eggrolls. They were delicious. The beggars were so creamy with loads of seafood flavor and crispy on the outside. The eggrolls were filled with collard greens that tasted like my grandma's- with the smoked Turkey! The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is because the blackened salmon didn't have much flavor. The pepperjack grits were very creamy and were not spicy at all. This place is "sumthin" alright! Our party of 4 was looking forward to eating here. We checked the menu and looked at the reviews, so we were completely confused when we got there. The service started out good, but it was disappointing to hear that everything that we wanted from the menu online was no longer offered. That should have been our first red flag, but we stayed optimistic and wanted to support this business. So after the food finally came out disgusting doesn't even describe our meals!! The 1st order was burnt fried chicken with the burnt side facing down and dry pancakes, the 2nd meal of Salmon Croquettes was unseasoned with a fishy taste, the 3rd meal of a big breakfast had thick hard bacon that was hard like a stick and dry French Toast that seemed to never have seen an egg, and the last meal was an omelette that was not only cooked incorrectly but was burnt on the side that was folded in and runny on the outside! They also did not have coffee or orange juice. Even with me expressing these concerns the only item that I requested removed was the omelet. The only good were the potatoes and the croissant. We suffered through it and no one apologized or seemed concerned that our food was not good. It's almost as if they were more worried that we were trying to find a way to not pay than serving good food. In the end the almost $100 spent for the worst birthday brunch ever was a reminder to start back eating at home. Smh! Now we have to find somewhere to eat for real. Hubby enjoyed pork sausage biscuit with gravy, high praise. We started with seafood beggars and they were a delicious little concoction also. The staff is very friendly. The most recent time I went the food took a little longer than it has in the past, but it was fresh and delicious when it came out. I went in this morning to pick up an order and it wasn't ready yet. I respectfully asked when it would be ready 3 times because she wouldn't give me a straight answer and this woman at the register was VERY rude and condescending (who claimed to be the owner) asked me if I was a business owner and when I replied "yes" she said,"no your a delivery guy." , and then when she realized I was the purchaser she apologized and said, "Oh, I thought I was a door dash driver" like that would have made it any better. This is a real shame because I LOVE supporting our businesses and I live literally RIGHT down the block. I will NEVER come back! Stay FAR away. read more

Just had brunch today at Sumthin' Fa Brunch. I had the omelette with ham and pepper jack cheese. I also tried the grits with pepper jack cheese and the collard greens egg rolls. The omelette was one of the best I have had in a while. The collard greens egg rolls were great with a little spicy sauce. The cheese grits were great.
