This is my home town favorite soul food place. Everything is packed with flavor, and everyone is so generous.

Sunday visit after church. Decided to use drive thru service for take out. Busy but nice flow and ease of placing order. The person working the line taking orders did a fantastic job in explaining the menu. We ordered smothered pork chops with rice and fried okra and a separate veggie plate. I have been a customer of Annie Laura's Kitchen for many years. I have to be honest and say that I was very disappointed at my visit this time. I hadn't been in a couple of years but decided to go back because of the amazing food that I had previously experienced as a consistent customer over the years. Unfortunately, I was highly disappointed when I ordered my usual and the food tastes nothing like the delicious food that I was used to experiencing at this location. The lack of flavor and quality that I had been used to experiencing was completely gone. The food tastes like it comes right out of the can onto the to-go containers. The turkey wings taste like they had no seasoning or flavor but as if they emptied out a can of cream of mushroom on top of the turkey wings. I could not finish the meal because it was nothing like remembered. Alongside the wasting of money and time that was taken to drive to this location, it was an overall disappointment. I used to recommend this location to friends who would come in town for some of the best soul food in Atlanta, but I honestly wouldn't be able to do that now because of the lack thereof. I'm not sure if they change cooks or what, but I'm highly disappointed. Pretty much they have a table blocking the door and a couple of chairs sitting outside of the establishment , or you have to wait in your car for your food. I had been hearing about this place for years and was so excited to finally try it! When I tell you that I was thoroughly DISGUSTED! My food was not good AT ALL! I got turkey wings, okra and Mac and cheese. The turkey wings came with a gravy that looked like a milky gelatinous concoction ( I assumed was cream of chicken/mushroom sauce) on top, the dressing (that came automatically with the turkey wings) had NO FLAVOR! I didn't taste any sage, thyme or even salt and pepper! The Mac and cheese was literally cheese and pasta... and the okra was so slimy... Very consistent soul food eatery. To me the best soul food in the Atlanta metro area. The staff cook some items to order and reminder, this isn't a fast food restaurant. If you're in a rush, some items may take 10-20 minutes. I usually order fried chicken or fish but today just veggie plate. Of course the food was consistent and glad I arrived early before the crowd. Cornbread comes with every meal; collard greens, field peas, Mac and cheese ( the southern cooked way) and corn bread dressing. All to good for review. With a peach punch drink, a must try. There are times when I want some good soul food and know exactly where to go. I really don't care about waiting in the line as long as I'm in my car prefer the car over standing. There was a gentleman outside taking orders, he was polite. I was in line for probably 30 mins which means you circle the building twice. I ordered the 2 pc turkey wings with dressing, Mac and cheese and collards greens and a side of field peas. 2nd order was 4 piece wings with Mac and cheese and collard greens. The dressing was the best I've tasted from a restaurant. The turkey wings are tender and seasoned well, easy to pull off the bone. The fried chicken wings are crispy just the way I like, I didn't like the feathers and some hair. The peas were good. The Mac and cheese was cheesy, was better than most places. Location and Parking They are located in Riverdale, on GA-85, which is a super busy main road so you want to make sure you're paying attention because you can miss it. They have a parking lot, that's mostly going to be used for when you wait because Venue and Atmosphere Prior to Covid you were able to go inside and order there, but post Covid they are drive through only. And depending on the time of day that you go the line will absolutely be long. The atmosphere was what you would expect from any Southern soul food restaurant, welcoming with smells that remind you of home. Food and drinks The menu is exactly what you would expect for a soul food restaurant. Be advised that if you do order anything fried you will be waiting in your car because everything fried is cooked to order. My partner got the fried chicken plate which came with two sides which she absolutely loved, and I got the veggie plate with collards, Mac and cheese, yams, and cornbread dressing with gravy. Portions were great, we had leftovers that we still devoured the next day. Verdict I'm glad that I'm closer to them again, because they will for sure be a place that I stop by, as long as I'm ready to brave the line lol. I will gladly wait in my car for 15 minutes for this chicken anytime! Annie Laura's is still operating as drive-thru only since the pandemic. As such, you will need to wait in our car if you order fried foods because they are cooked to order. Their mac and cheese is one of the best I've tried, and that's saying a lot because many restaurants are lacking in that area. Their collards are a bit sweet for me, but the yams were delicious. I was in the drive thru on Sunday 1/13/2025. There wasn't the usual crowd so I pulled in. I ended up waiting for almost 45 minutes. But, the kicker was the rude, lil nasty girl at the window. She went back & forth with me about my order when there was a person out there taking orders. Then she had me pull up. If I hadn't already paid I would've drove off. Then the chick brings my food out & stretch out her arm with my food dangling & my greens juice running to the bottom of the bag!! This girl needs a real attitude adjustment. Even if you place order to pickup there is only one person assisting with all pickup order; those placed online, Uber Eats, etc. it can't be lack of money, I think the owner simply is cutting costs and staff. The oxtails, kid's fried catfish & kids pig feet were good! But my kid's jumbo chicken wing was not packed in my Uber eats order. I usually never make bad reviews, but I spent money on an order & it wasn't packed. Usually when I order my food it is right but today 12/08 idk who was cooking but they cooked our pork chops so hard u could've used them as weapons. If u mess up why serve that to people? The worst service and the drive-through is incredibly chaotic. If you are not going to open the interior then at least have some order to the drive-through. Both lanes are blocked so you cannot exit due to people in drive through trying to place an order. This is a fire hazard. This place was simply awesome. I met a client here for a quick lunch and this exceeded my expectations. From the street, it looks like a hole in the wall joint and when you walk in you are overtaken by the smell of delicious soul food. I ordered chicken tenders and mac and cheese.
