You can taste the love in every bite. The food is made with care and served with genuine warmth, which makes the whole experience even better. Early mornings around 5:45am, you'll find a few regulars gathered, chatting and enjoying their breakfast -- it's got that welcoming, hometown vibe that just feels right. I stopped by on Monday craving a home-cooked breakfast instead of fast food. Judy's has been a staple in Fairburn for years, though I've only eaten there twice in the last two decades. ​I was hoping for a poached egg, salmon, and grits. Since they don't offer poached eggs, I went with over-easy instead. I'd had their salmon years ago before they moved out of the plaza and wasn't a fan back then it felt straight out of a can. However, this time the salmon looked completely different. I could see onions peeking through, so I decided to play it safe and order just one patty. ​The Food: ​Grits: Smooth and tasted pretty good. ​Eggs: Over-easy eggs were fine, though slightly overcooked in the middle. ​Salmon Patty: Definitely an improvement from my last visit! It had a nice crust and wasn't overly salty. It could have used a bit more flavor, like extra onions, bell peppers, or Old Bay, but it was solid overall. ​Biscuit: Even though I rarely eat bread, this was soft, fresh, and not dry at all. ​Strik-O-Lickin Bacon: A total miss. It was dry, extremely salty, and burnt a waste of money. Soaking or rinsing the cured bacon to cut the salt content would make a world of difference. ​Service & Atmosphere: The restaurant was clean, and the staff was wonderfully courteous. It's near where I work so most of my coworkers come here but because COVID we did stop. Well yesterday I decided to come and man I missed this place!! They have daily specials so don't come in wanting something other than what you see. I had fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beans. Small local spot i decided to try. Unfortunately I wasnt impressed. Mac n cheese didnt taste like anything, not even cheese. Preach cobbler was what seems to be a big saltine cracker they put in a cup (a cup cup, not the small bowl looking ones) then put the peach "stuff" in on top. It wasnt good at all. Wonderful Customer Service, Good Food and Prices I tried to make it to the Historic Green Manor but since they were closed for breakfast found myself at Judy's but if you're looking for the quintessential working mans southern breakfast and lunch hall then Judy's is the perfect place. Ambiance: Tile floors, dinner square tables and metal padded chairs with quotes and high school football posters reminding everyone what's important in life. The folks working there and fellow patrons made me feel right at home. Food is served semi-buffet style with you pick it from the display case counter and walk your tray to a table. Food/Drink: If you want authentic southern cooking you'll get it here. I went for breakfast and tried StrickO'Lean (aka Streak o' Lean), which is the fatback of the pig cut to be the direct opposite of bacon - lotta fat with a streak of pork - with biscuits and gravy, and eggs. If you love salt, which I do, then you love Judy's StrickO'Lean. One things for sure you get what you order at Judy's. The eggs were perfectly over easy, the biscuits and gravy homemade, and all served to taste exactly as they said it would. If ever back in the area I will be definitely be going back and give lunch a try. Service: Top-notch. Everyone was "friendly" and happy to be working to make the customers happy. Overall: Since I'm typically rating more upscale restaurants I Judy's came it at 3 Stars which is a bit unfair because it was more than okay. Judys is only open for breakfast and lunch and closed on Sundays... It is the south, lol. My favorite day is Wed, catfish day. EVERYTHING is fresh and from scratch. They have the soul brothers in the kitchen and they've been there 20+ yrs and they know how to cook! Everyday homemade peach cobbler w flakey crust, cornbread w every meal and always sweet tea. Its a cafateria style so grab your tray, fork, spoon and knife! There's normaly a line but it moves fast. From that you pick from desserts, usualy three types of meat and 4-6 vegt to choose! Vegtables vary from macaroni&cheese, fresh greens, fried green tomatoes(in season only), fried okra, mashed potato's etc... You get the picture! Breakfast is always the same and never gets old. As for the food it is set up like a lunch line you get a tray and pick from various breakfast items.you pick from such items as grits,salmon, fresh tomatoes and homemade flakey biscuits. Judys is a small cafeteria with southern cooking. It's your standard meat and 2 hots restaurant. I found the food to be very good. The fried chicken I had tasted homemade like my mother used to make.The sides are good, they had some of the best green beans I have ever had. very nice surprise around where i live. i guess they been around for a while. everytime i go its always pack with customer (usually elderly lol) and now the only decent pizza place is closed they are prob doing even better. their pudding is one of the best i ever had anywhere minus one star because b-fest stopped at 11:30 and lunch end 2:30/ 3:00 if only they open for dinner tooo for my late night munchy haha its a must go if you are around the area for lunch and by the way it's really affordable too! read more
