I was pleasantly surprised by this establishment. I walked in and the place was practically packed. There were a few tables available and the hostess allowed us to select where we wanted to sit. There is a bar and hookah's are available. The restroom was clean and there was more than one stall. I ordered the Rasta Pasta with shrimp and it was delicious. I was also able to sample the Rasta Pasta with chicken and it was just as good. I personally prefer the shrimp and will try the salmon during my next visit. The pasta doesn't come with a protein. The downside is each protein you add costs an additional $10. The portion was huge. So, if you don't eat a lot, order one serving of Rasta Pasta and add the proteins that the two of you would like to try and it's an inexpensive date! read more

The salmon bites were like probably the best I've ever had and then drinks are really strong, especially for happy hour then last one at least the service was really great and the atmosphere was clean I'm a big on bathrooms and this is like the cleanest bathroom. I went here for Sunday brunch. I made a reservation online via Yelp, but it wasn't necessary as there was not a wait and very few guests present. I arrived at 11AM. Brunch is from 11AM-2PM on Sunday. However please note that, alcohol/mimosas cannot be served until 12PM. I ordered the CK French Toast Tres Leches breakfast. The online menu is incorrect. There is not a lemon drop flavor and the breakfast actually comes with a meat and a side. Luckily, I was able to swap out the meat for potatoes for no additional charge. Service was great! The restaurant played Gospel music. It was loud, but they do have a sign that says, "If the music is too loud, you are too old" LOL. I sat inside but looksl forward to returning to sit outdoors and play some of the game they have. I saw corn hole, giant connect four, and darts. The food was delicious, large portions and filling. A single cranberry mimosa was $9 and served in a large wine glass. I enjoyed the mimosa as well. Overall, I give this establishment an A and would love to return for karaoke night. read more

Our first visit here was a pleasant one. The food was very good! I had the catfish & grits & it was delicious! The catfish was cooked to perfection & the grits were smooth & creamy, not gritty. We went around 12p & they only have the brunch menu at that time. Those are the only things they have prepped so you can't venture out much from the menu. My friend's salad was not part of the brunch menu but they made an exception for her, according to our waitress. Our waitress was nice. I think she was new, or she seemed to be new, but she was pleasant. The only thing I didn't like, or appreciate, is when she asked if I wanted cheese with my dish. I said "sure, but on the side", so she brought me a small to go container of cheese. I never ate it, it literally stayed on the table, but when I received the bill I was charged $1.50 for a side of cheese. I asked why I was charged & she said it was bcuz I said yes. Well, I said yes bcuz she asked if I wanted it, like it was included with the meal, but apparently it was not & she did not offer to remove the charges. I told her she could have it back, bcuz I didn't eat it, but ended up giving it to my friend who took it home with her. The food is delicious. We've been twice. I enjoyed the catfish, mac & cheese, and yams. The second time, I tried the turkey wing w/rice. The flavor was on point. We walked in at 2:00 for a late lunch. There were only a couple tables seated at this time. The interior was hip and intimate, it smelled neutral, and looked clean and well maintained. We were pleasantly greeted by Kayla and Teron. We let Kayla know this was our first visit. She was friendly and expressed her attention to details as she took an extra wipe to our table. We asked for recommendations and she shared her knowledge of a few guests favorites. The tables are close enough to the bar that Teron also engaged with us and checked in on our experience. We each ordered the burger medium-well and it was perfectly cooked through out. The flavor was beefy. The aioli added the zing of flavor that combined with the fresh toppings and upped the burger a level. I had an egg added to my burger- I recommend this addition as the rich yolk was so scrumptious and elevated both the burger and fries. I look forward to making this a McDonough favorite. Came in because of the yelp reviews as I was in the area. It's at the end of a strip mall area. There is free parking which is always a plus. The decor is nice and booths were set up nicely. There was only one young man working when came in but he was doing a great job being the host, bar tender, and server. He gave great recommendations on drinks and food. He let us know it was family business and truly family restaurant. We tried the spinach dip, rasta pasta with salmon, fried chicken, greens, yellow rice, and the Philly cheese. My husband I went on a Friday at around 6. They do have happy hour on Tuesday - Friday from 4-8 pm so we caught those prices which was good. Around that time, they bought in a DJ that was playing a mix of 90s and 2000s R and B so that was definitely a vibe but the music was a little loud for my liking. But it could have been good for other folks. Now for the food, I will say everything came out fresh. We started with lemon pepper wings and they were really good and crispy. My husband ordered a burger and said the patty was seasoned and the burger was very good. I got the blackened salmon with 2 sides (Mac and cheese and sautéed spinach). The salmon was cooked well and the honey sauce was good. As for the sides, the sautéed spinach was very good but the Mac and cheese was not well seasoned and felt like it may have been sitting out a while. I wish it would have been better. My husband also got a Long Island iced tea and said they were definitely not stingy with the liquor so take that how you want to . Overall, I will definitely give this place another go. We (my husband and I) took my mama-n-law here for her belated bday celebration, 2 weekends ago. I must say we LOVED it! We went on a Sat. night and unbeknownst to us, this was the night for Karaoke! We did wait a while before we got our food, but it was expected b/c it was crowded, and we didn't have reservations. Not a biggie! When I tell you it was well worth the wait! The food was "bussn"! I ordered the cajun chicken alfredo. The only neg. thing I have to say about it is, that I wish it wasn't spaghetti noodles..not used to that at all! But it was a good taste though. My mama-n-law got the fried chicken that she said was great! My husband had the fried catfish and he said it was great also. Oh, I almost forgot, I got the salmon bites as an appetizer. They were a bit over-cooked but was seasoned well! I prob. will try again just to see if they will be cooked better. Highly recommended! My brother ordered the steak entre, my son ordered the Pasta with chicken, my mom had the ribs and i had the lamb chops. Everyone finsihed they plate with the exception on my son. He took his to go. My man had the Shrimp Rasta pasta(9/10) they gave a lot of pasta but five shrimp and that meal cost $28. To me the math wasn't mathing for the cost. I really want to like this place and think I will after a second visit at a time when they are serving the regular menu. I've been wanting to try it since they opened. And finally I took my two little ones in on a Saturday afternoon expecting that we'd have lunch. The hostess let me know as soon as we came in that they were serving brunch only and I decided to sit anyway. We arrived just after opening time and there was only one party of two already sitting on the patio. We opted for a booth inside. The interior is really nicely done, and I really enjoy all of the black woman centric artwork that is on the walls. If I had any complaint, it's that the music is too loud. But I had to laugh at myself because there is definitely a sign behind the bar that says if the music is too loud you are too old LOL Here's what we ate: - - Two honey butter biscuits. These were probably the most delicious thing we had, but they are also expensive. They are just like Wendy's honey butter biscuits (#iykyk), but fluffier. For the record, I legit asked the waitress why they cost so much as the menu says that one is five dollars and two is $10. But she told me that the menu was incorrect and then if I ordered the five dollar version I would get two, so that's what we did! - - A salmon croquette sandwich. Hated it! Do not recommend. I knew as soon as it got, sat down on the table that I was not going to like it. I mean, just look at the picture. The croquette wasn't good. The slice of onions on top were old, and a little dried out. The tomato and lettuce was fresh. The croissant was toasted to perfection, but had butter on the outside of it, which just made it too greasy to me. - - Chicken and waffles. because this is what I ordered for the little people to split, I ordered it with chicken strips instead of wings. The strips were a good size and seasoned well. You get three on top of a waffle. The waffle iron was clearly overfilled so there was a crispy edge all around the outside of the waffle. My two year old refused to eat that part, so I spent my time delicately removing the crispy edges so that she could eat the waffle. Honestly, it took our food too long to arrive. Three different people stopped by the table to check on us because of how long it was taken, only one of whom was actually our waitress. Luckily, they had given my girls some coloring sheets up upon entry that kept them a little distracted in between their complaints to me about how hungry they were. Ultimately I decided that the long wait was probably because of the croquettes; that whomever was cooking today doesn't know how to make them and spent too much time trying to figure it out. Overall, this was a 2.5 star experience for me, but I always round up so I gave it a three. While the interior is very nice and it feels a little upscale, the initial outside view makes you think differently. I was originally drawn into this place because it looks upscale from the street. The signage and logo is all very nicely done. Once you're in the parking lot, you can see that the doors are wrapped/covered in a way that feels like a juke joint (we can see out, but you can't see in) AND have big clear signage that guns and smoking are not allowed. Although that sounds fine in writing, it actually gives you pause as you consider entering. I know this is true because not only was that my experience, but I saw two ladies hesitate as I was strapping my children into their car seats. Once you enter, your hesitancies fade away. This ends my review of Culturistic Kitchen but I'm about to elaborate on the two ladies below. . . . . . . About these two ladies: they were two older women who appeared to me to be phenotypically white. I was parked in front of the front door (again we got there early) so even though I was strapping my girls into car seats I could see them clearly. They stopped dead in their tracks when they saw the wrapped doors and the no guns and no smoking signs. I understood, because I had that same moment in my car when I pulled up in front of those doors. It was almost like a scripted exchange, watching them point their bodies back toward their car and then back toward the door as they discussed whether or not to enter. I gave them no judgment over this because, again, I had the same moment. The looks on their faces. Let me know that they were somewhat scared. I wrapped up strapping my second daughter in and walked around to the driver side door as I opened my door, I called out a question to my daughter. at this point, the two women turned to me I'm still standing between my open door and my car, and they catch my eye. I linger because I can't tell if they're about to ask me a question. They look extremely disoriented at this point.
