Team Sumo Dog! Love their veggie options. Get any dog with beyond meat to make it vegetarian or vegan friendly (mind the sauces and toppings - most are okay). Sumo Dog serves the OC/Orange County in Anaheim. Napa/Napa Valley, Indian Wells at the Tennis Garden, one in Seattle, Snowmass Village (Colorado) and more to come! This one in Indio aka the Coachella Valley (part of the Greater I.E./Inland Empire) is pretty iconic. You can find this one at The Canopy at Citrus Plaza. My first encounter with Sumo was their L.A. locations in Koreatown and then Santa Monica before branching out to these spots. Would love to see them back here, but I'm in the CV often so worth the trip #StayCation for a great hot dog. It's a cool take on traditional sports watching eats with Japanese flavors. An awesome fusion I recommend. Not a fan of the up charge for beyond meat or the fact that they don't offer a beyond meat burger sub... Obsessed with the Sumo Sushi tots! This is not the North Indio location with a drive thru off Ave 42, which I think is still confusing.... You can enjoy some great beverages, sides and perfect AC here, plus decor and sensational service. Open 7 days a week as early as 11 AM each day, until 8 PM Sunday through Thursday. As well as until 9pm Fridays and Saturdays off Jefferson Street. Sumo Dog - Indio (non drive thru) is ready to serve you.

Good place to eat. Burgers aren't big but has good flavor. Place is nice and clean. Real Modern and Trendy. Workers there were very nice and answered questions and recommendations.

This place is soo good! I wish we had one locally I would go all the time!! Really great service and prices! Hopefully we can come back soon!

This is a cool spot with some great gluten free options! Which was exciting for my child who has an allergy and feels like they miss out on the "cool" places often. Staff is always incredibly helpful, patient and kind! I'm not huge on hotdogs, personally but there's are pretty good. I've also tried their burger which is a nice Japanese spin on a smash burger. Tater tots are bomb! Ive also tried the rice nuggets and they're great! Different but next time might go back jist for those. Grateful to have fun and yummy, quick options that sre great for kids out here in CV.

Went back for the dogs and they were really good. The daily menu is a fantastic deal. Just a nice clean place for lunch.

YELP SHORT ANSWER: yes... fun. LOCATION: Jammed in Citrus Center - Canopy, which is full of food options. Lots of parking most all times. A good place to visit with covered outdoor space. FACILITY: a bit small inside and ordering can become cramped in hot days but you'll be able to deal with it. MENU: maybe a bit complicated for me but I have figured out what I like, like the frozen beer. FOOD PREP: for what it is, all is fine here. FOOD QUALITY: very good. LIBATIONS: okay if I did not mention, the FROZEN BEER is amazing on a hota$$ day. WAITSTAFF: always doing their best, well above the average FF location. OVERALL VALUE: pretty ok, compared to the outrageously expensive options of neighboring establishments it is a bargain but more expensive than In-N-Out but it has its own vibe. TIP: Try and get there off peak time as when they get busy it can be a long wait.

I'm giving it four stars but I really think a 3.7 is a more accurate evaluation. The quality of the hotdog and taste of the hotdog is really good however I'm not a fan of sweet food as a general rule. I like it more savory Mom and I split the sumo Dog And the chili cheese, dog beef on both. On the sumo Dog I told them to omit the teriyaki sauce, but the relish was way too sweet so it's sort of ruined it for me. And the chili cheese dog was OK but I'm so used to the old-fashioned one that I always get over the years and it takes a while to get used to something new. Overall, it was clean and nice and the lady at the register was helpful. I think it's worth going there and trying it to see if it's for you. I like the concept but I think they need to work on the flavor of the combinations a little more.

Chili Tater Tots, Miso Katsu Dog

I ordered the Katsu dog and also the chili tater tots to share. The Katsu dog is really good has a sweet marinated sauce and the lettuce adds a nice freshness and crunch to it. I would personally pass on the chili cheese tater tots, they taste like they will give you acid reflux, and the taste was not worth the potential acid reflux for me lol.

This place is creative with their food. I would give them another shot. I think their service is a good and the aesthetics remind me of a sushi spot with flare. I would eat here again. I think 1 or 2 dogs max. I think it's filling forsure.

What a great meal. Sumo dog (on the left), New York dog (on the right) and a Kirin Beer.

I wasn't to sure about the concept of this place but decided to be adventurous and give it a try. MAN, am I glad I did. This place was really tasty. Quality ingredients with a fresh taste. I can't wait to go back and try some of their other items. I'd say you need run on down and try one... or two :)

The menu is a cool fusion of American with hints of CaliMex and Japanese influence. I got the vegan Miso Dog and side of plain sushi tots. Delicious and filling! The fried part was light and perfect for me. I asked for a little drizzle of sauce and it was great. This is the perfect to go joint that's filling and clean - highly recommend!

    Bacon Banh Mi Burger
    Robin W.

This place is an absolute MUST anytime i'm in the desert! Although it's a hot dog place, I come for the burgers especially. My favorite is the bacon banh mi burger. The bun is so soft and the smash patty is cooked to absolute perfection. The toppings pair so well together and create such a delicious texture for the burger. The cashiers are always friendly and the food comes out quick (depending on how busy it is). The decor of the place is nothing fancy but it's perfect for the sumo aesthetic. If you're just passing through or you're there for the music festivals, you gotta try it!

I had the over the top hot bacon wrapped dog and the iced beer. Seemed very over done. I wished that I had gotten the original dog instead.

You can…read moreorder from their little side window (look for a flower mural) or pop inside Gabino's Crepes where they've got a register set up but don't let the unassuming setup fool you...this place is serving up some seriously incredible smash burgers. The menu keeps it simple: burgers, fries, shakes. But when you do the basics right, that's all you need. Everything is made fresh to order, but somehow they keep the wait time quick. We grabbed a round of burgers and split some fries, and everything came out fast and hot. Burgers: 10/10. This is what they're known for, and for good reason. Fully customizable (go for the double though, trust me), with gooey cheese, fresh toppings, and that perfect thousand island style spread. One of the best classic burgers I've had in a long time. Fries: Don't sleep on the specialty fries. I went with the Fiesta Fries and HOLY HELL WERE THESE GOOD! Ground beef, shredded cheese, G sauce, sour cream...BOMB. Definitely a crowd favorite. Drinks: Washed it all down with an ice cold lemonade. Perfection. :) The hospitality was just as solid as the food. The staff here are friendly, welcoming, and all around great vibes. This spot is a gem and absolutely deserves the love. I will be back!

I don't typically leave negative reviews because I like to give people the benefit of the doubt,…read morebut I'm TIRED of BAD service. So if you know about this place, you have to place your order outside of a window. In 100+ degree weather it gets HOT!! and FAST!!! Well, we were left outside in direct heat waiting for the cashier to come out and greet us, this was myself, my elderly 75 year-old mother (as seen in the video) as well as my 14-year-old Nephew. You have to push a doorbell type button to gain the staff's attention, totally cool with that, but when you leave people waiting in 100+ degree weather for 5 to 10 minutes with no shade and no misting system, that could become a problem. So the cashier finally comes out this morning and she greets me and she says it'll just be a couple more minutes before I come out to take your order. I said OK, that's fine, but can you please call me to the window? I said because it's extremely hot and I'm sweating and I don't wanna wait in direct sunlight. She said absolutely, that's not a problem. So she goes back to do whatever she goes to do. About four minutes later she proceeds to give an order to another customer that was waiting in the heat as well, then she calls me to the window. I get to the window and someone proceeds to gain her attention inside of the kitchen, so rather than ask me to hold or tell me that she just needed a minute, she proceeded to slam the window in my face and goes to talk to her coworker about who knows what. What she should've done was told her coworker, hey, I'm with a customer right now, let me get back to you as soon as I take his order, but she didn't do that. She proceeded to make her coworker her priority, not the person that was going to place a $100 order for a group of people celebrating Mother's Day. So she gets back to the window and I proceeded to tell her off. I told her exactly how I feel because at this point I think service in this country has gotten bad with this new generation. She looked like she was in her early 20s, I myself for context am not. So she says I'm ready to take your order and I said, you really just slammed the door in my face, didn't you? She was just stunned that I said something, that I actually had a voice. I said no, I'm not gonna place an order with you, you lost an order because you left me out here in 100+ degree weather. I said I should've been the priority, and I was a little upset because I did drop a couple F bombs (which I regret) but only because I was hot and I was sweating and I was frustrated and I was just angry that this new generation has no concept on how to treat paying customers, especially rational customers, with better service. Now they weren't slammed, aside from the other customer that got to receive his order, no one else was waiting for an order, so it's not like she was super busy. That's what really bothers me, I should've been the priority with my family, but yet she chose to leave us in the heat. I told her, if the roles were reversed and you were outside here waiting in this heat and I was taking your order and I did that to you, you would be extremely upset. She was puzzled and didn't say much. I think she was just stunned that I said something, but I wanted it to be known that whoever is the owner of this place needs to have a serious talk with their employees about proper protocol when waiting to place or receive an order in 100° weather with absolutely no shade or water misters. I really think you guys need to do better. My family and I walked away and proceeded to go grab iced coffee at Everbloom Coffee across the street where we were treated like kings and queens. You don't leave an elderly woman waiting in 100° weather, they could die of heat stroke, DO BETTER, Papa Head!
