Bob and his guys cleaned up a very old oak tree in me and my wife's backyard in Santa Rosa. With the recent storms and long winter, more and more small branches were falling off. They were doing some work on my street recently and the neighbor who hired them said they were absolutely the best. I'd already had an estimate for some tree removal, etc. from someone else, but decided to ask Summit for a competitive bid. They came in several hundred dollars under the other bid, so I hired them. The job required taking down and removing two large trees and trimming several more on a steep, sloping hill, and unfortunately, the day they came it hit a high of 95 degrees, and those 5 guys they sent were all wearing jeans, sweat shirts, and thanks to Covid-19, they even wore masks. Yet in 6 hours of extreme heat, they worked hard, they worked efficiently and tirelessly, they did a beautiful job, they couldn't have been nicer guys, they left the property spotless, and I'd use them again without hesitation. Was driving through my neighborhood over Labor Day time and out of the corner of my eye, five guys were pulling on something. Ll of a sudden I saw they were taking down a large tree. It fell right on top of the drivers side and front of my car. There was zero signage or any area cordoned off warning a tree would be falling in the middle of the road. After being freed out, I checked my card--told them they needed to have a person manning the roadway or signage at very least--and kept on to work. I called and emailed this business to zero reply. We had a big job to clear five acres in healdsburg area, and needed to make sure the area was fire safe for our family. I called them on Sunday had a return call that Monday and Bob came out on Thursday for the estimate. Hands down the best price in town and even had it been higher I would have hired them because he doesn't give off the I'm going to screw you vibe. As a newer homeowner, taking care of a house is a new experience for me and my husband. A neighbor needs to replace a part of a shared fence, so my husband and I needed to remove trees along the fence line. After many estimates (and no call backs!), we found Summit and I felt at ease when Bob came by. He even offered to reduce the bill when we told him about other lower estimates we received. To help the crew, my husband and I put yellow ribbons on the trees that needed to be taken down so it would be easy to see the work that needed to be done. The crew arrived and went right to work. At the end, one of the crew members noticed a tree with a ribbon that hadn't been taken down. I looked at it and saw that it wasn't in the fence line, so I said it wouldn't be a problem. However, I didn't notice another tree that WAS on the fence line that had a ribbon on it...but hadn't been taken down. My husband called Bob, and the request to finish the job that we were paying for wasn't taken well. Bob told my husband that, 'Well your wife said it was okay' multiple times. True, but the fact was that a tree we needed taken down was not taken down. We learned there would be a 4% additional charge for using a credit card, which isn't legal, I found out later. (http://oag.ca.gov/consumers/general/credit_card_surcharges) We needed to schedule the additional work for a certain time the next day since my husband or I couldn't be there all day. Bob said all we had to do was leave a check for $100 more than the estimate under the door mat. We said we were uncomfortable leaving a check for $1000+ under the door mat, and Bob said that people did it all the time. And THEN, Bob asked us if the check was going to be good. (Really?) Bob came out to the house the next day and did the work. He didn't say anything when I pointed out the missed tree. He just grabbed a chainsaw and took the tree down in less than 15 minutes. After that was done, I told him I was unhappy with the comment about the check, and he apologized for that, but then he said that people asked him that same question all the time, and that "I shouldn't take it personally." I told him that sounded condescending. Bob asked me if it would be better to talk to my husband. (!) I replied that I was more than capable of handling this situation/conversation. He asked for an apology, and I didn't accept it. The experience left a bad taste in my mouth, which was disappointing as our yard needs work - and we were hoping to find a company and build a long-term relationship. He asked me what he could do to help and waited for me to suggest something, but at that point, I was hoping that he would offer something (a discount, a discount on our next project, etc.) -- and he didn't, which was disappointing. To sum up: The crew was great, efficient, and friendly. They cleaned up after themselves, told me they couldn't save the extra wood because it wasn't good, but offered to drop off any extra wood they got from other jobs in the area. I told Bob that his crew was fantastic. Bob, the OWNER, was disappointing, condescending, and seemingly unhappy that we called with a complaint. He questioned us about our concerns and our ability to write a 'good' check, telling me that I shouldn't take it personally that he asked. He asked me if it was better to talk to my husband than to talk to me when I voiced my concerns. All we needed in this situation was for Bob to answer the phone when we had a concern and say, "Hey, no problem, we'll take care of that tomorrow. When's a good time?" Upon arriving, he could have just said, "Oh, I see how that could have been missed, I'll take care of that." That would have kept things positive and we would have been happy to call them again. For thousands of dollars of work, I expect more from a company. read more

The only good thing about my recent experience with this company is that the estimate was done within a couple days of our request. After that its been down hill. On June 3, I called this company to accept their estimate and have the work scheduled. I was told Bob was making the schedule that day and I would get a call back regarding what day my trees would be trimmed back. 1 week later to the day- June 10, I finally received a call from Bob that they were a week out and I would receive a call a couple days prior to my work being done so that I would know. On June 25, I finally called them back and said that I had to have a date that next day or I was going with someone else. I got a call on June 26 after working hours that they would be out on June 29 if that would fit my schedule and to call them back. I called back and spoke to whomever is in the office and they said great fine, see you Saturday. Saturday, June 29 comes around and they are a no show. A NO SHOW. I haven't even received a phone call as to why or that they're sorry they didn't make it. This is horrible customer service and I do NOT recommend this company to anyone. Find someone else to do your work. I can't believe they are diamond certified by BBB. I'll be filing a complaint there as well. read more

Just used Summit Tree Care for the second time and I will never call anyone else again. This company is absolutely the best - it is so clear why they are a Diamond Certified Company. They are profession. They arrive on time. They work fast. They do beautiful work, it is clear that they really know trees and how to get the most out of them. And their cleanup is exemplary. Hardly a spec of sawdust remained in my yard. And to top it off, I have found their pricing to be VERY competitive. Both times I have contracted with them I have gotten other bids and they were at least equal to the best pricing I have seen. We have worked with Summit twice over the last couple of years for tree trimming and both times they did a great job and were cost effective. Usually, we end up paying more because customer service is important to us but Summit have managed to maintain their competitive edge as they have grown. We will be removing an aging tree soon and Summit again bid the right price, even though they were assured of getting the business. To start this review off on a positive. The office staff was very friendly and the estimate was done within a few days. The estimate was reasonable and we requested them to do it on the spot. During the estimate we were informed it would be a week and we would get a phone call. We did not so I called and left a message. We got a call back with an appointment for August 2nd. We waited all day for them to arrive and I called them at 4 pm. Again I left them a message and we have not heard back from them. I hope they rectify this soon. I hate to write bad ratings but this is poor customer service and unacceptable. Upgraded from 1 to a 4. Okay, so an hour after I submitted this review they showed up at the door. The lead guy apologized and they did a few extra things to make up for being a day late. They were polite and quick. They had the tree and some other items cleaned up and out within two hours. We have a pesky walnut tree in our backyard that I'm getting rid of (the casings are making my dog very ill) and I called around to get quotes from a bunch of "high star" tree trimmers. Bob returned my call very quickly, and arrived right on time for our scheduled estimate appointment. He is extremely friendly, and just one of those people you get a really good vibe from. Not to mention, his price was very fair (a smidgen higher than some, and a lot lower than others). Ultimately I learned that a friend of a friend has his own tree-trimming business (licensed, insured, etc.) and he offered to do it for free. Needless to say, it's REALLY hard to beat free. However, if that wasn't available I would have used Summit and based on the fellow review I would not have regretted it :) read more

As yelped, I talked to Bob, I told him that we had a willow blow over. He was down here in Novato in an hour and his bid was unbeatable. They removed a big willow that had fallen in the wind, and cut down another big tree that was always a mess. It hung over the power lines and always made extra chores.....They cut up both trees and hauled off the entire mess! I thought it would be an all day job. They were here at 10 :00 am and gone by 11:15 am!!! We were 100% satisfied with the work preformed. I give four stars only because they put us off for a day, after we had confirmed, the day before ( for an emergency). Also because I do not have the option of selecting 4 1/2 stars. My neighbors spoke highly of Summit Tree Care so I took their advice. I needed 17 eucalyptus trees removed. Some of the branches were intwined with utility lines. High winds and fire danger made for an anxious time. A crew of eight guys from Summit brought a caravan of trucks and chippers. Using a crane and ropes, they carefully removed the limbs from the lines. it was tricky but they made it look easy. Some of the trees were two feet in diameter. When the crew was done, the trees were gone. They even adjusted their chippers to blow the chips into my yard where I wanted. These guys work hard. They are professionals. They work safely. They works as a team with no wasted motion. They showed up on time and did what they promised.
