We DO NOT RECOMMEND Summit Environmental Solutions. We experienced serious issues with communication, scope clarity, and accountability. We hired Summit to address water intrusion in our basement and to perform mold-related work. As part of the plan, Summit's project manager explicitly discussed using a fogging sanitizer to "kill the mold" and told us we would need to vacate the home with our pets during application. We later learned--only when we called to schedule the fogging treatment--that Summit claimed the fogging had already been completed. Their written invoice also included the line item "apply fogging sanitizer to basement." This was alarming because it coincided with a strong chemical odor in our home and new health concerns that arose immediately after their crew finished work. We have text messages from the project manager stating that the mold was "dead" and confirming the treatment had been done. After we raised concerns about the timing and potential exposure, Summit changed their position and said the fogging had not been performed. Throughout this process, Summit provided conflicting explanations about what work was done and when. Also, they were unable to identify appropriate certified oversight for mold remediation, despite having represented mold-killing treatment as part of the scope of work. Two independent remediation companies later confirmed that Summit's proposed approach was insufficient, and we ultimately had to hire another certified firm to properly remediate the space, including removal of walls and performing HEPA treatment. Only after our firm insistence, Summit eventually offered a very limited discount for the issues, but never acknowledged or apologize for the confusion, protocol concerns, or the impact this situation had on us. We pursued resolution through formal channels, including the BBB and state agencies. Based on our experience, we DO NOT RECOMMEND Summit Environmental Solutions. Anyone considering them should be sure to get all representations in writing, independently verify certifications up front, and ensure there is no ambiguity about what services will actually be performed. read more

I had originally made the mistake of choosing and paying the wrong pest control company , ( one that I had for at least 15 years ) to eliminate my pest problem, which they did not. I will be later naming and writing a very unfavorable review about them. I had to now find a service to resolve my issue. By chance, I found Summit Environmental Solutions, which turned out to be my best choice especially because of Jason their pest control expert. Jason came out for my problem. He explained everything that was going to be done. He was very personable, conscientious, reliable and thorough. Summit did unauthorized work, removing bat houses that my son and I had made together. They threw away the bat houses even though I had requested they not be touched. Summit admitted their mistake and offered to discount their services by 1/3rd the price of new comparable bat houses. At a minimum they should have offered to replace like with like. I gave them several chances to make this right but, even though they took responsibility for the mistake, they are unwilling to fix the issue. read more

Found out on Saturday there was a bird in our dryer vent. Reached out to summit after hours and they were able to get someone out to give us an estimate on Monday. Gave a reasonable quote, paid, and they told us they would come back out Wednesday to do the actual work. So far no issues. Come Wednesday, they show up over 2 hours after the 3-hour window they gave. The employee did not speak to us at all, despite us being home. Then, the Summit employee realized that they had the wrong size bird guard for the dryer vent. They texted me, then packed up and left. No words were ever exchanged in person, nor was a follow up appointment booked. We're left with a bird still in the dryer vent, and having already paid for a service that we did not receive. -------------------------- Update Friday They came back out after I called Wednesday and had them actually add me to the schedule and installed the correct bird guard but still did not communicate at all while they were on site. It took 2 more phone calls and one miscommunication that was originally on my part to get the last piece fixed. Took care of a few shingles that blew off after a nasty storm, but when the water damage continued in a different location During the next storm a few weeks later, I shot Tim a text asking for a reassessment late that evening. Needed to add insulation to my attic which is an older home with a lot of original stuff from when the house was built. Quote came in at what I expected, upstairs seems to be maintaining temp better. I did ask for before and after pictures and never received. Everyone seemed very friendly minus the office personnel. Communication lacks never heard anything after the deposit was given, with the exception of an email with a tentative date. Had to call to confirm date of install, and as mentioned lady was pretty rude. Then never got a call with a time frame on when they would come. We found Summit as I was perusing companies to install fresh insulation in our attic, as our house is so cold, we have friends that actually refuse to come to our home during the winter . I chose Summit only because they were the first company to respond to my appointment request. I am happy I chose them. The office end of the business could use some tightening up, as they don't seem overly organized, but the tech was great. For this review, we will call him Jason, as he looks just like our friend Jason. Jason was on time, polite, patient, presentable, friendly and knowledgeable. He sat down with us to discuss options, procedures and costs and gave us the estimate right then and there. He didn't try to up-sell us and actually talked us out of the pricier spray insulation that we had assumed we wanted. For our needs, we found the prices reasonable and we scheduled the service and 50% deposit thru the office. (The women are very nice, they just need to communicate amongst themselves a bit better, cause there was some moderate confusion emanating from that end). I thought Jason would be here to oversee install, but instead, it was 3 nice guys that were super efficient, courteous and tidy. The men laid cloth to cover the entire path they would be walking on through our house. They were also so helpful in making sure our cats and dogs didn't try to escape as they were going in and out the front door. I even learned a few new Spanish words from them. Seriously nice guys. Anyway, they also removed a random, very heavy box of concrete mix from the attic for me and were able to create a small storage area without insulation on it, which was very thoughtful and helpful. They were meticulous in cleaning up and were in and out within 2 hours or so. They were even courteous enough to remember to lock our windows behind them (they ran the blower hose from the truck thru our upper windows). Normally, my husband and I don't like new contractors in the house with me when he is out of town, but I was very comfortable with this group. The insulation is excellent, (clean, allergen and fiberglass free) just as Jason described and I can totally feel the difference in the inside air temperature. 5 stars for product, immediate quote, fair price, Jason and the install crew. Minus 1 star for the slightly unorganized office from the get-go. I also never got a follow up from them after the product was installed. On 12/20/17, I signed a contract for wildlife trapping and repair of damage caused by squirrels invading my home a few weeks earlier. I utilized a third party service and Yelp reviews to narrow the businesses. Of note, I found Tim of Summit personable and trustworthy; he was the main reason I went with their business out of several choices. Of note, the two stars they received are for the interactions with Tim and the trapping work he provided. Trapping began after Christmas and repairs were initiated on 1/9/18. Following 1/9/18, I received an invoice on two separate occasions for the remaining balance, however I contacted their office to state that all repairs were not complete based on the contract as signed. I took photos of the repairs to be finished and forwarded via email to Summit. I was contacted by Rebecca at Summit who apologized and stated she would talk to Tim regarding finishing the repairs. At this point, I requested photos of the completed cleaning and repairs since I was losing confidence in Summit and questioning the quality of service. Tim had provided me "before" photos of the damage and soffit line gap on 12/20 and I now sought follow up "after" photos. On 2/9/18, I received another invoice from Rebecca however I responded the remaining repairs had yet to be completed. I was contacted by Rebecca who stated she would immediately investigate. I communicated that I would not pay the balance until all repairs were complete and I had photos of the previously completed work. I also requested it be coordinated that I be home during the repairs and possibly speak with Tim regarding the completed work. On 2/16/18, I received a door knocker, dated 2/13/18 at 9:45AM, stating all repairs were finished. On 2/19/18, I contacted their office to again request the photos of all repairs and arrange payment. I was told I did not currently have a balance on my account and no photos were available. However, the receptionist promised to get me any photos from the manager by the end of the day and leave a message for Rebecca to contact me as soon as possible. On 2/23/18, I again unsuccessfully attempted to reach Rebecca regarding my account. At this point, I ceased reaching Summit to inquire about the status of my photo request and the invoice due. It is my belief that, as a paying customer, I should not continually be seeking out a business to check the status of my requests or to try to pay my account in full. In reality, utilizing good customer service, this should be the opposite. Unfortunately, while everyone I had contact with was friendly and polite, customer service at Summit is severely lacking. As a result, it makes me question the quality of repairs I received and nothing was done to address my uneasiness. This could have been accomplished a number of ways and, as of 3/6/18, still hasn't been addressed. At this point, I have not received the "after" photos requested in January, yet welcomed the opportunity to settle my account since it seems as if payment is what most concerned Summit; they had already charged my credit card for the remaining balance without authorization. I have the sinking feeling the "work" they did will need to be addressed in the near future. read more

I had a dead deer removed from my property in June of 2020. Through a referral from a friend in my community I discovered this company and had heard good things which is why I decided to proceed with them. However, my experience was overall absolutely unpleasant. I called their customer service and described the dead deer being medium in size and was told the removal would likely be $600-800 and that they would send someone out for a look. Given the COVID-19 virus, that I was working from home, and have a child in the house I asked for a call when the person arrived and instead I got a knock on the door. Chris (stated he is a manager for the company) was the person that did the quote. Even before inspecting the deer he was talking about different quotes depending on the deer which already gave me an insight that the $600-$800 quote over the phone would likely not be honored. Ultimately Chris gave me an $1,800 quote because the deer appeared to have been dead for numerous days according to him and he also stated that the removal was ultimately a big job that is very uncommon and he alone does it for his company. He stated it would require him to use a full body suit and respirator for protection, that he would require help from a colleague (which he said he would call), that there were major concerns being a bio hazard, and several other sales pitch items in order to justify the massive quote. Initially I disagreed but the sales pitch continued. Ultimately I agreed, signed and paid as he stated was required before he could start the job. He also stated that he was mixing the liquids to clean up afterwards. Long story short, while I told Chris I was busy working but I still kept and eye on the situation from my windows. The deer was removed in about 15 min (or less), was done solely by the Chris alone and with no protection suit or respirator and he never came back to disinfect after leaving with the dead deer. I waited all day assuming he would return to thoroughly disinfect the major job he described. He never returned. I called the company and was told he or someone would return the next day to disinfect. I was very upset and wrote a note to the company that same evening because I paid so much money, the job was not complete and I was lied to (no one came to help and he immediately removed the deer, no suit necessary, and no thorough cleanup afterwards). To Chris' credit he called me the next day in response to my email, which I described the above and how upsetting I was about being lied to. In my message to the company I also asked to speak to the owner and Chris also told me that someone would follow up with my after our chat. Today is 12 days later and no one has returned my call to rectify my concerns. As I stated in my message to the company, the quote given and the behavior after is both unethical and unprofessional. I was also in talks with the customer service representative (the only pleasant part of my experience) of working out a continuous pest control service like my neighbor has, but after this experience I'm no longer interested in dealing with this company. Instead I'm considering writing to the BBB. ================ Response to Zach: Zack - Thanks for your response. I was convinced to pay what I agreed to pay based on how massive Chris stated the job would be. You failed to address that he never called for help as he said he would - he never wore full body protection - and he never sprayed thoroughly as he said he would - and yes he was out in less than 15 min. Again, it's misleading and false, unethical and unprofessional. While untrue, whether he threw up or not is irrelevant as it's part of the job. All that proves or states is that he didn't wear a respirator as he stated over the phone - because I witnessed it. Also, see the text from you where you stated that the job was $600 - $800. We purchased our home in August of last year. The previous owner was elderly and did a poor job of upkeep. When we started to hear very loud noises in the attic in April, my husband found SES online and they came out to the house within a week to check it out. Scott, the owner, had a plan of attack that day and we signed the contract for trapping the squirrels, repairing the holes and the dryer vent and all exhaust fans in the attic. Scott caught 3 squirrels the first day!! They set traps and over the course of a week, caught 2 more. They did the repairs to the attic the following week and all work was quality. We also had them come back to sanitize our attic to get rid of the squirrel pheromones so hopefully we won't attract any more. Scott submitted a proposal for a new roof, insulation and gutters but we ended up going with another company which has proved to be not a great decision. Should have signed with Scott!! His quote was in line with everyone else and I feel like he would have offered more guidance throughout the roofing/insulation process. His crews were always on time and professional. This past month, a raccoon elected to take up residence in our attic and dig a hole in our roof in the process. Contracted to remove the animal, patch the roof and repair the other points of entry, Summit was extremely difficult to work with. Since contracting them to remove the animal on May 5th, I still have not received an invoice from the company--though my tenant provided me with a breakdown of cost. I authorized 50 percent payment, which they have charged, but when I ask for a copy from--oh I don't know--the company completing the work, I continue to receive no bill, but they haven't hesitated to ask for payment, I assure you. In addition to the bill issue, when Summit finally entered the home to investigate water damage from the hole in the roof after nearly 20 straight days of rain, the technician blamed insulation and mold damage in the basement on flashing from the deck--which has been confirmed independently to have nothing to do with the problem. They also falsely informed my tenant that the "mold" was likely black mold, which caused an unnecessary panic and an emergency visit from an environmental cleanup company. When the owner of Summit was going to "come out and see for himself" Summit never responded when I asked for a time window to ensure my tenant could be there. He never showed. Also, the animal was actually trapped half-way through the 10-day trapping period, but no one bothered to tell me until three days later as it continued to rain into my home. When working with a company, I expect communication. I expect emails to be returned, phone calls when possible, and I expect a bill from the company to the client. Not hard. In addition, as the homeowner, I expect that any communication regarding repairs be facilitated through me, since I'm paying for the work. It is unacceptable that Summit would assume a homeowner is receiving the full story from the tenant. It is the company's job to communicate the work. Without my constant prodding, I would have no info on the repairs. Ridiculous. read more

It started out easy enough. Suspected moth infestation called SES. Ben showed up to leave moth traps as we have a pet and didn't want the house sprayed. My fiancée spoke with Ben about the moths and decided we would do the one service that day and call him if we wanted treatments in the future based on what happened with the moth traps. I thought we needed more when I initially spoke with Donna, but we just weren't sure what we were dealing with and my husband to be is a bit less reactionary about these tiny little critters. I'll leap over a chair to smack em' in mid-air. Ben said you got it, just let us know if you want further treatments and we can come back out when you need them. My fiancée paid Ben, a whopping $250 for five little cardboard traps to be set out. In the meantime, another invoice in my email for another $250 due. And then a call from Ben he was at our house to spray a week later without us setting the appointment. Called again and was told the system was glitchy and set up for appointments based on my first conversation with Donna. Literally had just received an email telling me he was going to the house that day and he calls saying he's at our house. Both my fiancée and I were at work. I called, told them (again) we were not scheduling any more appointments because we found the source of moths and we rectified it. Couple of more invoices for $250 in my email after that. Another call from SES, spoke with Lorraine. A delightful person, seemed very helpful. Told her the same thing I told the last rep. She said Ben lost the check, and since we only had one treatment the cost will be reduced less the stop payment on the check Ben lost as well. We even joked that he may have wiped his nose with it. Said she would send updated invoice with amount we owed. Never got it. Mentioned it to my fiancée that evening, he told me he paid Ben via square with a cc, not a check. We checked tha acct, no charge from them yet. No, it doesn't end there. Another invoice, $250. I called and spoke with Anne re the whole mess,she said Lorraine would call me right back. Five hours later, I called again and asked for Donna who was the incredibly helpful and cheerful person I first spoke with. Very nice Donna, speaking in her very polite voice kept deliberately talking over me as I tried to explain what was going on. She acted like she didn't know who I was and not very happy that I wanted to speak with her. Suddenly not very interested in what I was trying to explain, hearing her exasperation and hearing her using that very polite forcefulness to speak over me as though SES inability to keep track of their own records, billing and appointments was somehow my fault. I was blown away. Where did the reasonable woman I spoke with high tail it off to? We discovered in our first conversation that we live in the same neighborhood for crying out loud. How'd she forget who I am? Now I have to deal with Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde in my own neighborhood. Great. I asked her to calm down as she kept raising her voice and impatiently talking over me (still using very polite words) but then said I'm the one whose high strung! At this point I feel like I'm talking with my teen aged daughter. I work in a pressure packed environment and have learned that people make mistakes, not the end of the world. Just be patient and explain and everything works out fine. I am a master at diffusing tense situations. It's my job. My reasonable new friend Donna then fired off that Lorraine was standing there and didn't remember our conversation, and acting like I was not being truthful. I'm a grown woman, in years a good deal beyond nonsense like questions regarding my integrity. At this point I finally said, we will pay whatever is due, just please someone figure out what is going on so I don't keep getting calls and invoices when this was just a simple appointment. She literally, loudly, said I WILL GET THIS CLEARED UP FOR YOU HAVE A NICE DAY! Click. Word to the wise, they all have nice personalities. They just don't seem to run their business very well, it's pretty crummy having to deal with unnecessary drama when you're just calling asking someone to figure out what is going on because your the one getting harassed and they turn it around on you. I'd go with someone who does not do home improvements as their primary function and exterminating on the side. Their business model isn't working. Lesson learned. Ben gets the star. read more

Pest Control: when I called Summit in a panic from the small snake that was in our home, Jessica helped me to calm down and reviewed all my options and pricing. We decided we wanted to move forward with a survey of our newly purchased home and go from there. She called for a consultant to come by that same day within a few hours. Although I was still quite frantic, Will, walked me through our entire home top to bottom and inside and out to share where the snake was coming from and how we could resolve the issues, both immediately and long term. Regardless of wanting to spend any money during the holidays, we wanted to protect our family and our investment - Will was extremely cordial and went out of his way to make sure we understood all that was being done to protect our home. When we purchased our house we didn't realize we had a horrible issue with standing water in our backyard. We've used Summit in the past for other issues and decided to call them again! They came out designed a french drain system to help solve the water issue. They came out and dug a 16"wide x 24"deep x 140' long trench and filled it with 13 tons of gravel. They completed that portion in one day and came out the next day to grade our backyard with the dirt they dug for the trench. Since installation we've had numerous rains that would have left our backyard puddled for days yet we've had no issues!!! We are so happy with the work they did and highly recommend them!! read more

I've used Summit in the past for two repairs. The first one was conducted with professionalism and keep the home owner informed of what they were doing. The second repair was the worst experience I i have ever had. They consistently let water enter the home and not isolate the cause of the leak. No drastic measure were taken after the water kept entering the home. They resorted to applying caulk and calling it a day. After multiple visits and more caulk applied I finally gave up and resorted with a "real" reputable company, who isolated and fix the issue within 1 day. What a disappointment. read more

I am a community Manager for a Condominium (Lifestyle at Sully Station) in Centreville and we called Summit for baby raccoons and a mother raccoon in one of the condo attics. Our regular pest control was unable to assist and another company was quite expensive and was not able to guarantee successfully removing the raccoons. We found Summit through google and we were very pleased with their work, price and efficiency in getting the job done. They were easy to work with and always returned calls and emails quickly. Summit Environmental Solutions doesn't provide a good service. My problem was squirrel in the attic. They came and gave me an estimate initially which was what I want to hear at the time, but it turns out it wasn't really the whole picture or the whole problem. Two months after their initial solution, squirrels came back and their second expert had to come and inspect the whole roof and attic again and provide a whole new additional estimates, this time with much higher price-tag. I was also told that the initial inspector didn't do it thoroughly the first time so this new estimate is to fix the issue once and for all!. Overall a problem that I was told costs around $1k to $2k, is costing $7k and they simply said, we give you $500 off, that is all. They do your job half way, claim a victory and tell you the problem is solved while being polite, but then in a short period, you will end up paying more again. I hired summit to convert my garage into an office. It is a property I own in Virginia so I am not there all the time. I got 3 estimates. Summit was the highest, but I felt most comfortable with them. I also had them remove a sliding glass door and install a regular 36" door and two side windows. This job turned out to be a bear...much more labor intensive than Ozzie priced, but summit was good to their word and made the door right, after several attempts that were unacceptable. I am giving 5 stars for the end result. It took longer than Ozzie said it would, but most construction usually does so I can't fault that. There were at least 3 occasions where Ozzie said he was coming to the property to check on something or do something, but he didn't show and when we called, Donna was the one who came and made us feel much better. If it weren't for Donna, I believe I would be giving Summit 3 stars. They did good quality work, but some of their work seemed disorganized at times. Donna was always there to make it right and send someone out to correct any mistakes made. read more
