After the work done in clawspace the house feel cooler than before. The crew came in and fisnished insulation so quickly about an hour. And the manager came by check the made us think this was really effective work. It is really poor job. Dont waste your money with this company. read more

Wish this could have been a much more positive review but unfortunately I had a rather negative experience working with Comfenergy. We had the provide insulation in the attic of our house and were told afterwards that they would follow up with us to make sure the other rooms in the house were taken care of. Once they completed the larger more expensive project in the attic they stopped answering my calls, texts, and emails. They had someone come over to the house to check the other rooms had them pull up our floor boards to take a look then never followed up to actually provide the service. I have called both my point of contact and the office multiple times with no response. As a result I am having to go with another company to have the rest of our work done which is extremely unfortunate. I really dont post reviews that often but I just wanted to relay my experience as I use yelp for a lot of my home service projects and rely on honest feedback not just artificially generated positive reviews. read more

Every townhouse in northern Virginia has the same issue, hot upstairs, cold basement. I had Comfenergy out and they told me I actually had too much attic insulation. Ok cool, but I also have cathedral ceilings and skylights so obviously there's poor airflow up there too. The quote was high but I figured I would get what I was paying for. Also, we had discussed that as a Dominion customer, there were some rebates I could apply for (more on that later). Once I paid the upfront, I had to call back to actually schedule the job myself, since a week goes by without hearing from them. They did the job over two days which was great. When they were done, I went up to take a look and I asked about putting in baffles since I had discussed that with the sales person and it was listed on the work order to do "if necessary." The installer said it was too difficult and the original sales person actually came back out and said it wasn't necessary and if there was a problem, it would be covered by the warranty. Ok fine no baffles, we'll see how it goes. I asked for some pictures to at least verify that they didn't block the soffit vents with the new blown in. Oh and Pedro says he'll be back the next day with the rebate forms. Great. Do I get photos or forms? No. I call, I send emails. My wife calls and emails. Nothing. Finally we get some photos from the main office, none of the soffits. It's been three weeks and I haven't heard back from them at all. Totally unprofessional. Why would I trust that you'll stand by your warranty when you won't even reply back to me about some dumb rebates? This would have been a four star review if they had just communicated after the install. read more

A total disaster. An inexperienced, untrained crew created more issues than I had before they began their work. My goal was to increase comfort levels in my senior-living, one-level home built on a slab that is super cold in the winter. I hate as a senior being taken advantage of. I was very naive. I have spent thousands and now am having to throw more good money after bad to try and make my home comfortable to live in. It is so bad; I am ready to sell! And I can't afford to after all I have spent, without taking a loss on the sale. They dense packed my walls and now I am colder; in the process, they removed the flashing above my windows which now leak. I had to hire a window installer to replace the flashing that their incompetent crew removed. They failed to put back the siding properly, so it was hanging off my house. Once again, I had to hire a handy man to refasten the siding the crew removed while dense packing. And the dense packing was useless as it didn't enter the cavities that already had batt insulation. While spray foaming triangle boxes, boots, and plenum, they sealed off all my dampers resulting in zero air flow. They reluctantly came back and had to dig out the dampers that they had foamed over. In fact, they over-foamed at junction boxes, boots, and plenum so that HVAC techs couldn't even tune my system. There is 2 feet of foam, yet hot air is rushing out of the flexible ducts that weren't sealed properly. Yet there remain gaps on my boxes, boots, and plenum. Just today, a HVAC tech walked me around the attic, and I could feel the hot air rushing into my attic at the junctions, boxes, boots, and plenums that are all wide open; that I paid to have sealed. I almost threw up; I am heating my attic! And the tech said it looks like a dog was in my attic as the Comfenergy crews failed to put back my blown-in fiberglass insulation they removed when trying to foam, so there is no insulation at the boxes and boots. They were simply careless and failed to rake it back and even out my insulation resulting in further cold spots I didn't have. In short, I now will have to hire another company to blow in more insulation and make sure it is even, so I don't have cold/hot spots. Additionally, they left the lights on in the attic, didn't replace the attic access foam barrier, and failed to seal the major penetrations including light cans/recessed lights and supply vents I paid for. Next came the bathroom exhaust fans; they were installed improperly and didn't vent because the outside flaps remained closed, while inside a cold draft came in my bathroom because the foam sealing, I paid for wasn't done properly. So now both my bathrooms are drafty. They were cold; now they are cold AND drafty. The HVAC tech today remarked he felt badly that I have two or more space heaters in every room, including the bathrooms! I strongly recommend carefully watching the crew if you ever choose to allow them to do any work for you. I trusted them. And I regret that. I was naive. I was cold. Rather I am still cold! I trusted their salesperson. The crew that did mine were either let go or quit. In fact, one of them still calls seeking to do side work. I politely declined. I suggest you do the same and seek a competent company that you can trust, does the work you paid for properly, and doesn't damage your home read more

For clarity we went with their crawlspace and attic insulation. While both repairs did experience some issues on the installaiton side, their professionalism pre/post service has been exceptional. I highly recommend them for the energy audit portion and their attic work (we got R60 installed) has added a trememdous layer of comfort; our heater HVAC hardly comes on in 40ish-50ish degree weather anymore. Our crawlspace work has made the crawlspace much more habital though given our current infiltrations around the house (vents that still need to be shut, windows re-sealed, etc) it's hard to access the cost-worth of the crawlspace yet. Ultimately I think they are a great company to seek contracting from though I will say it helps to go with a pro-active asking mindset both pre and post installation in case an error arises. read more

UPDAtE TO THE UPDATE: So Comfenergy finally reached out. And their salesman Steve is amazing and I caused me to raise the stars. He found that the workpeople did not do a second vent for my bathroom so Comfenergy reimbursed me for that (about $150). Steven went through everything and talked me through everything which I really appreciated. He his why I increased the stars however, it should have never gotten to this point. He checked out everything and I felt was honest and open. As a side note, we still haven't had our Dominion Rebate check yet and I called another home energy auditing company and they were surprised and found that it taking so long was highly unusual. UPDATE: I had an electrician come by to look at a wiring issue for something else. Something told me to check Confenergy's work. We paid over $1000 to have our bathrooms vented in addition to the insulation work. They never performed this work. I have a call to them now but with their history they probably won't return my calls. I don't know what happened to this company but don't use them. Please. I used this company a few years ago for my townhome and we were very happy with them. This year we moved and noticed that the house was very cold so since we were so pleased with this company before we used them again. WRONG!!!!! The sales pitch with Pedro was fine and what he thought we needed to Be done to make the house warmer especially the r bedrooms was new insulation, fixing where the bathroom exhausts come out and few other minor things in the attic. We were eligible for the Dominion Energy Rebate program. We were told we would get our rebate about 6 weeks after the completion. The crew came out at the end of Nov 2023. I was told that the rebate would be taken out of our final payment to the Confenergy. The crew came and did their job but insisted on full payment before leaving (this was like at 8 pm when they were done so the office was closed). My mistake was paying them. I thought because this company was been so forthright previously they would still be. MY MISTAKE. It is now over 2 months later. Brenda the accountant hasn't returned my calls. The receptionist while nice told me now my check is coming from Dominion and can take up to 6 months. Pedro the original salesperson and the person in charge of the Dominion Rebates was supposed to call me to get me access to a portal to let me see my status of my rebate. He has not done so. I purchased a 1950's home in Alexandria, VA in 2018; one of the first steps that needed to be undertaken was air sealing and re-insulating the attic and encapsulating the crawlspace to bring the home to modern comfort and health standards. I went with Comfenergy due to their professionalism and expertise. From the energy audit and consultation (Matt), to the removal and re-installation of attic insulation, crawlspace encapsulation and dehumidifier installation (Dylan & crew), things have performed as expected over a year later. No more humidity, no more overworked HVAC, and no more mud pit under the house. I am writing this review because I had an issue with the dehumidifier that was installed (throwing an error code). I called on a Monday before a holiday and explained the situation. Comfenergy had someone (Ariel) out by Friday to diagnose. He fixed the issue, offered amazing advice, answered all of my questions, and even performed an inspection of their previous work (going as far to spot repair a few places that had weakened due to settling). This kind of customer service, over one year after performing their work, made me feel a whole lot better over such a major investment and project for my home. Jan. 12, 2024 Roxanne and her crew of very skilled workers arrived to remove all the old insulation and install new insulation in our 1971 townhouse attic. They also needed to remove a few pieces of children's playthings and a very old tv antennae. The children's playthings were not to be thrown away. Roxanne and her crew insisted on carrying them to the outside so that we would not be exposed to the old insulation. They, of course, were covered from head to toe with special clothing for their own protection. We were so impressed with the care and attention given the upstairs bedrooms. Everything was closed off so dust would not get into or onto the furniture. They worked tirelessly and obviously knew exactly what steps to take to do the job well. Roxanne made sure my husband was able to look into the attic when the work was complete before the hatch cover was placed into the attic opening. The hatch cover now has over 4" of insulation carefully taped to the surface. Not an inch was missed in our attic. The team worked well with each other and were very friendly and pleasant. We have noticed how much warmer the upstairs has been since the new insulation was installed. We highly recommend Comfenergy. read more

I had Pedro from Comfenergy come out to look at my insulation and do a blow door test. He gave me a pretty expensive quote and told me that I am free to get another quote and they might be able to price match another company if I find a cheaper quote and give me $100 visa gift card. He also recommended air duct sealant because they subcontract for Atlantic Duct. He quoted me $3,995 for that service. He told me they charge the same as Atlantic Duct because they subcontract for them. I decided to inquire and call Atlantic Duct and they quoted me $1995 for Aerosealing my Ducts. So I also found another insulation company who charged me half of what Comfenergy charged. I called Pedro and sent him the quote. He never called me back. I gave him a couple days and reached back out. He told me that he sent the quote up to his managers and I should get a call back. Its already been a little over a month and have not heard anything from anyone. I really don't appreciate being lied too about pricing and not a follow up call atleast to tell me they cannot price match at the very least. Definitely don't recommend going with them. He also mentioned that because I was recommended by my colleague, my colleague will get a referral bonus. Its been a month and my colleague has yet to hear from anyone. The sales team at Comfenergy is stellar and totally on their A-Game. The team they contract the work to be done through however wasn't as much on their A-Game. The team was scheduled to do the work the day before Thanksgiving. The job was to seal the attic, remove old insulation and blow new, much better quality insulation in its place. My husband needed to do a few things to prep for their work like removing old mouse carcasses and general clean up. My husband also had to pipe out the range hood exhaust fan up through the attic, which was mentioned in the contract as one of the home owners responsibilities. He had left a heavy duty wooden plank up in the attic that he had used to move around the attic and requested the contractors bring down when they were finished with the work. He intended on re-using that up in the attic if he ever needed to get up there for minor repair work. So they finished the job efficiently enough a few hours later. When my husband poked his head up into the attic to check out the work initially it looked great. Then after they left he realized not only had the plank not been brought down from the attic as he requested but it had been buried in insulation along with the opening of the pipe he installed for the exhaust fan. My husband mentioned the situation to the gentleman that sold us the insulation package initially and he was very responsive. My husband asked if given the circumstances and the fact this created more work for my husband since he had to resolve the clogged pipe before we started to cook Thanksgiving dinner if they might cut us a little bit of a break on the balance due. The guy responded that he'd have to speak with his supervisor but that more than likely the contractors would have some of THEIR pay docked for the blunder. How did that in any way compensate us for the time we needed to take out to fix the problem? It didn't. It only served to lower THEIR cost for labor but kept our balance the exact same. Definitely not what we had in mind. To be fair, the sales guy did offer to send the contractor back to resolve the issue but not until after Thanksgiving. TBH, with a pandemic and all I didn't really want strangers back in our home again so we respectfully declined the offer to instead resolve the issue ourselves. In summary, just know that Comfenergy is a stellar company with nothing but integrity. They do however contract their work out so there's no guarantee the work you are receiving will be as stellar and professional as the actual company selling the service. You will most likely need to do a careful inspection of the work, not just assume that everything is hunky dory. Overall the company as a whole did good work, just frustrated that the savings for the mistake wasn't passed on to us but rather deducted from the pay of the workers. It would have gone a long way with us and built more confidence for future work to be done. read more

Awful awful. Sales rep came twice, gave detailed estimate. I approved it, put down deposit. On day of work, I took off work, crew came late, spent an hour with broken machine, then after seeing my attic, said the space was too small to do the job. Waited 2 hours for a supervisor, who said they could not do the job. THIS IS A MONTH AFTER CONTRACT WAS SIGNED and deposit sent. They said an inspection appointment by one of their contractors was never done. Their apologies, from the crew, sales rep and management were minimal at best. On the way out, their truck broke many branches on my dogwood tree. TERRIBLE. read more

We had our entire attic re-insulated by Comfenergy this March. From start to finish it was an A+ job with what I believe is an A+ contractor. To begin, I had an excellent experience working with Carl, who conducted the home energy evaluation (free). Although only scheduled for a few hours, Carl spent practically the entire day evaluating our house and discussing the various insulation options for the attic. I appreciated that although I had asked for X insulation option, Carl probed WHY I wanted X. Because he did that, Carl let me explain my thinking (as oppose to competitors, who asked what I wanted, look at attic, and gave me a quote) and was able to offer alternative options that he believed would be cheaper and actually better. I really appreciated - and what in my mind is the sign of a good contractor - that many of the alternatives cost LESS than what I initially had asked for. In the end, I went with one of the alternatives, which was less expensive and a better overall fit for what I needed. Another sign of a good contractor, in my opinion, is that Carl had no problem admitting when he did not know an answer to a specific question and calling the experts at Comfenergy before giving me an answer. During the evaluation I also became very confident in Comfenergy and Carl because he identified insulation issues that my home inspector had already identified, so I knew he/Comfenergy were not identifying things that were actually OK in an effort to drum up more business. In terms of the actual work, Comfenergy's crews did an excellent job. They were on time each day, worked extremely hard and efficiently throughout the day, and took good care of the house. They were very friendly and answered all of my questions. Although the second day had to be cancelled because of the snow storm, Comfenergy kept me up to date on whether they would be open/closed and worked diligently to reschedule my project as soon as business resumed. I also want to note that the foam used by Comfenergy - Gaco Western - had essentially no smell even as it was applied, and there was no lingering odor the next day. (Caveat: we only had a couple inches of foam sprayed). I plan on giving more business to Comfenergy in the coming months and years, which seems the best review I can give. read more

These people assured me they would fix all my home comfort problems, then took over $9300 from me for very invasive (and in the end, unnecessary) work and left me with a house even worse off than before, all the while insisting that they'd made an improvement. Then they made a generous compensation offer, only to immediately renege on the offer and reduce it to 20% off even more expensive work. These guys will offer you a free energy audit only to try to milk you later on. Very unprofessional auditor. Broke attic hatch while inspecting attic but did not bother to bring it up. Several weeks later on, when I brought it up the auditor did own up to it and sent his boss to fix it. The repair job was subpar and instead of sealing the attic trim flush, they used caulk to cover up the gaps. The auditor, Carl, was rude and shouldn't be in the sales business. My family was around and he seemed irritated - as if he has the right to show an attitude INSIDE MY HOUSE. Moreover, he was not able to understand or answer simple questions. They quoted $975 to install an exhaust fan and $5700 to do my attic insulation - rip offs, rude, unprofessional people. STAY AWAY. read more

Please give a big shout out to Diego Pizarro and his install team. They just completed the encapsulation of my home's crawl space and it's A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. What was a very dirty (literally), messy (falling insulation, dead animals, broken ductwork, prior contractor litter) and damp space that continually sucked heat/AC out of my house, is now a clean + sealed area that I could entertain in, if it weren't still only three feet tall. Diego and team were prompt, professional, pleasant and fast, completing the job in three days instead of the four they'd scheduled. They worked on their hands & knees to clear and level the dirt; safely remove a ton of moldy fiberglass insulation; remove ancient wiring & a non-functioning sump pump; replace broken duct runs; install three layers of vapor barrier/padding; spray foam all walls; install two smart drains, ETC. They even replaced the furnace filter while they were down there. My only regret is not having it done soon. Thank you guys! read more
