All I can say is that I have never never never encountered as nice of a place - and as nice of hosts, than at Granville House. We were lucky enough to score a room here during the 2021 holiday season and we took it without high expectations - but holy snowflake Batman! This place is amazing! And I had the pleasure of meeting both owners and connecting as nice easy going human beings. What a find! Our first night was especially special because we got a size-able snowfall! So I spent quite a bit of time downstairs by the fireplaces, playing billiards, listening to vinyl records, and under the front porch space heaters. Magical is a word I might use but it's inadequate. I think I prefer transcendental. I tend to give emphatic reviews seldom - only when a place really impresses me (or disappoints me). All I can say about this place is please don't book the nights I want next year!! And in the meantime - go find out what you are missing!!

The breakfasts are delicious, the home's decor is beautiful and characterful, and no detail has been overlooked in ensuring their guests' comfort. The musical ambiance at breakfast is also reminiscent of my own playlists, with a mix of classical, new age, and soft instrumental listening. The historic inn retains much of its charm with original details throughout - truly a step into New England country charm. We feasted on fresh fruit and orange juice, coffee/tea, yogurt with granola and home made nut pancakes, quiche, and just out of the oven muffins. The conversation with various guests from countries like Belgium and Germany was wonderful. A rolling outdoor lawn was a fabulous spot for a picnic lunch. All in all, we can't wait to come again to visit local favorites such as Naumkeag, The Divine Mercy Chaplet, Tanglewood, The Rockwell Museum, and so much more. The staff proved to be uniformly pleasant people, always helpful. The public spaces -- the dining areas and especially the recently refurbished parlor rooms which are stocked with drinks and hors d'oeuvres in the late afternoon -- are a genuine delight. So much is good here. But we have given the inn four stars not five because of the disappointing breakfasts. We were served very overcooked casseroles, overcooked scrambled eggs, grossly undercooked bacon and rather sad bits of yogurt. They really need some improvements here. That said -- and we know it requires us to be honest -- we would definitely look forward to returning with fingers crossed for some improvements in the breakfasts. And yes, 33 Main is on the pricey side, but it's high season for Tanglewood -- a very short drive away -- and given the quality here we think it's well worth considering a splurge.

The pleasant atmosphere of the Inn was graced by a pleasant hostess and a rolling set of breakfast items set to please the vegetarian souls of NPR listening intelligencia as they gather to hold another rally against capitalism in their posh Nike shoes and bold American Eagle Outfitter dress down wear. Because let's be honest, looking poor never quite goes out of style. Seriously, regarding the inn, it's proof that peace can be found on a late September evening.
