Being our first time there, the people there have good suggestions. From those recommendations, we ordered the Chicken Shawarma Platter, Lamb, and Kofte Wrap, and were quite speedy serving the food. The Chicken Shawarma Platter was a nice portion, cooked nicely, and had good flavor. The Lamb was cooked perfectly and had good flavor, didn't have that gammy flavor, and was juicy. The Kofte Wrap was a nice size, juicy, and had nice flavor that worked well with the other ingredients in the Wrap. Overall, fast service and great food. What isn't there to like? read more

I had a very disappointing and upsetting experience at Sultan Kebab in Livermore. I ordered a shawarma salad and specifically avoid eating beef because it is against my religion. Unfortunately, I was served beef anyway. On top of that, the salad was spoiled. Shortly after eating it, I became extremely sick and started vomiting repeatedly. I called the restaurant to let them know what happened, but no one responded or made any effort to address the situation or follow up with me. Serving someone meat that goes against their religious beliefs is a serious mistake, and serving spoiled food is unacceptable. I hope the restaurant improves its food safety practices and pays closer attention to customers' dietary and religious restrictions so this doesn't happen to anyone else. read more

I've been meaning to try the one in Pleasanton forever ago, but I stumbled onto this newer location in Livermore so here we are. Looks like it took over the old Harry's Hofbrau space except they turned that massive space into 2 units now, as the days of massive dining halls are starting to become a rarity. Order at a counter and food gets brought to your table. There's a full bar (which I thought was strange for this type of food) but this is also Livermore where it still tends to have a stronger drinking culture than most other suburban towns. Most of the seating is in their 'outdoor' patio which is pretty well enclosed with one of those catering tents. Babaghanoush ($8/2.5*) Looked great with warm pita and an olive oil drizzle on top. Texture was spot on creamy and soft but they overloaded this usually delicate dip/mezze with enough raw garlic to kill a horse. Now I usually love garlic but this was to the point where you couldn't taste anything else so main ingredient which is roasted eggplant, you couldn't even tell what it was. And your mouth was tingling with that harsh garlic taste for minutes after chewing it down. Instead of wasting it, I packed it home and used it like Toum to spread onto other things. I've actually had Toums less potent than this. Adana Kabob ($19/4.5*) This a ground lamb kabob Turkish style. Similar to a Lule, Koobideh, Shami kabobs from other cultures. Turkish has pretty bold spicing but not as strong as Afghan or Pakistani. And definitely more assertive than Persian or Armenian. So kind of in the middle of the spectrum. I loved the texture and the flavor, just maybe a tad ambitious on the charring. Now that char did add an awesome grill flavor but a couple degrees more than burnt qualities may then be perceived. Combo Beef/Lamb Kabob $20/4*) For combos you can actually pick from several kabobs. They use smaller chunks like half inch cubes small. It is very natural tasting, no heavy marinades or spicing. Tasted like just salt to me so you can really taste the protein. But very well done but not really dry. I just prefer larger chunks like at least 1 inch cubes, so the meat stays juicy and succulent. Afghan and Persian kabobs usually have bigger pieces on those skewers. And these plates have a side of salted plain rice (not basmati) a green salad, some pita and a nice dollop of hummus which was top notch. Great food, for the kebab lovers. I like the combo shish plate. Their meats are so good. It's nicely charred and still tender. The beef and chicken were both excellent. Great flavors. I enjoyed both. With it comes a lot of things- the pita was soft and fluffy. It paired nicely with the creamy and garlicy hummus. So smooth. Like butter. The salad had a nice burst of acidity to it and was very refreshing to eat. Good seasoning/dressing. There was also a yogurt sauce on the side which was delicious. Tangy. Sultan's Livermore location has a full bar and a DJ as well on the weekends (atleast Saturday). The food is at the same bar as their Pleasanton location. Limited options for the vegetarians but the falafel work pretty well. The staff is friendly and after you place your order at the counter, they bring the food to you. I came to Sultan's Kebab on a Sunday afternoon. I ordered a beef wrap which came with a salad. The beef was well seasoned and the veggies were fresh. My friend had a chicken pate. The portions of my plate were average. It is a pretty restaurant inside. There is a red sauce on the table which has a kick to it. I recommend trying this restaurant if you are looking for a healthy meal. Service is not like a sit down ambiance but the restaurant looks like it could be that way. This is the third Sultan's Kebab location we have been to. It is our understanding that each Sultan's Kebab is owned by a different family member(?), and they certainly all have a little bit of differences in menu offerings and taste. We came for a weekend dinner. The decor and mood has definitely a modern feel and vibe. There is plenty of interior and outdoor patio dining. Service is typical of others. Pretty straightforward and nothing overly notable. Food arrived fairly quick. We ordered our usual, the Sultan's burger. This was probably the worst of all three locations we've been to. There was very little flavor and the fries were not crisped enough. We also chose two other unique dishes we have not seen before at the other locations. The Pide with half chicken and half ground lamb/beef is essentially a pizza. While the chicken meat was was moist and full of flavor, the ground lamb and beef was disappointing as it had a very herby taste to it that we did not like particularly. The Lahmacun was essentially a flatbread with similar ground lamb and beef. Again, this was not really to our liking. Given this food experience, we will definitely not return to this location and choose instead to go to our favorites elsewhere. read more

Under the same ownership of Sultan's Kebab and Falafel in Danville, I knew the food was going to be great! Located on the corner of 1st St & Maple in Livermore, there was ample parking on the side. This location is bigger and spacious than the Danville location, with a touch of Christmas lights for the holidays. Also has more offerings too. Ordered a combination plate, wrap, lamb casserole and a Chz & Pastirma Pide (flatbread pizza). For dessert, had Kunefe and a variety of Turkish Delights. Everything was made to order and food was fresh and delicious! The guys at behind the counter were very helpful in explaining some dishes, even suggest to delay the Kunefe it would served warm. I LOVE coming to Sultan's Kebab! It's conveniently located across from the movie theater and in downtown. I always order the combo shish kebab plate with chicken and beef. It comes with a good amount of food and I always leave stuffed! The salad dressing is to die for. The meat is cooked and seasoned to perfection. The pita with hummus combo is elite. I've been dying to try this place after hearing so many of my neighbors rave about it online (and honestly watching the characters on Ted Lasso eat kebabs, ha!) Great ambiance, generous portions, and fresh food. The staff is friendly and always helpful, which is plus. Parking can be tricky since it's located in downtown Livermore but they do have designated customer parking in a shared lot. The best thing is they are open until 11:30 pm each nice which is useful for a late night cravings! read more

Every employee provided the utmost attention and exceptional customer service to every guest, which made us feel so comfortable and welcome. The decor with all the flowers is also very relaxing. The DJ was very kind and had a diverse selection of music available. He would happily and quickly play your request. The entire family danced and had a fabulous time! I was too busy running around showing my hospitality to all, so I did not really get to taste much of the food. I had a nibble of the adane kabob and lamb shank and they were both soft and flavorful. My partner and I have been coming here frequently since they opened. Every time we visit is a 5 star visit. The employees are always friendly and welcoming. Everything is clean and orderly. They have self serve water and piping hot tea. Ordering is easy, you order and pay at the counter and take the table number back to your seat of choice. Food comes out looking exactly like what you order. Beautiful every time. I feel like a lot of places get away with leaving things out from what was pictured on the menu. I enjoy the combo shish plate and salad. I can never choose between chicken and beef because they're both so flavorful and juicy. The chicken shawarma plate never misses. Don't forget about the white yogurt sauce! I'm not sure what it's called but it's delicious. Their desserts are to die for and they have a wonderful selection. My favorite is the rice pudding. Rice pudding is one of my favorite desserts and this one is one of my favorites so that says a lot about it! I love that they're open late! We are big fans of Sultan's and usually go out of our way to visit the Pleasanton location because the quality and consistency are always excellent. Unfortunately, today we chose the Livermore location purely for convenience--and it was a huge mistake. After getting on the freeway to head home, I opened the falafel and immediately noticed it was brown, extremely grainy, and nothing like the usual falafel we're used to (which is green inside, fresh, and flavorful). I called the restaurant and specifically asked if the recipe had changed. I was told no, and I was assured that if I returned, the falafel would be the usual green inside. I turned around, drove an extra 20 minutes in traffic with my kids, only to be told when I arrived that they were out of parsley--which clearly explains why the falafel was brown. This should have been communicated honestly during the phone call instead of assuring me the product would be different. While they did refund the two falafel items, we still paid for the rest of the food. Overall, it's frustrating that two locations under the same ownership can feel like completely different restaurants. The difference in quality and consistency is very noticeable. If you're a true Sultan's lover, I strongly recommend going to the Pleasanton location. The difference in freshness, quality, and overall experience is night and day. read more

Wow wow wow, how am I only just discovering this place?! I came here for lunch and was blown away by their generous - and delicious - portions at such an affordable (well, Bay Area affordable) price! Other places charge $22+ for rice platters with just 1-2 lamb skewers. Sultan's lamb shish platter, on the other hand, comes with 4 skewers for $19. It's such a steal, I almost want to gatekeep it . My honey and I have been going here since they opened and we even were there on their year anniversary, drinking tequila with the owner! Obviously, we love it because not only is the ambiance with the bar, outdoor patio and red lighting very hip, but the food is delicious with incredible flavors and tender meats. I've tried many things on their menu and have never been disappointed. I definitely have some favorites though, and with the (pisco?) sour cocktail! Mmmmmm! They have an area with ice water and hot tea-as much as you want-and their tea is so yummy, I even drink it in summer.
