Was craving Chinese takeout so decided to give this place a shot. I ordered online, it requires you to make an account, but you pay when you pick it up. I got the lunch special with sesame chicken and house special lo mein ($2.50 upcharge). I like that you're able to customize the lunch special with a variety of options for sides. The house special lo mein has some veggies and bits of roast pork, chicken, and shrimps. Service was quick and nice. A good option for takeout if you're in the neighborhood! read more

I find it hard to believe I have not argued this place, maybe they changed businesses or owners and my old review is there. Which I can totally own because when I originally started coming here it was just sultan wok and now it is sultan wok/ Asian Express. This is my top choice spot for Chinese takeout locally. To the point where when they are closed and I want Chinese takeout, I just wait until they're open and get something else. My go-to is the general tso is chicken, with which I like to treat myself for lunch when I am working from home. Is this the best Chinese food I've ever eaten, I don't know. Does it satisfy the craving when I have it, absolutely. I would say there are days when I think their food is particularly better than others, without rhyme or reason, but I do tend to find their food tends to be better more often than it's not. Not. I also like when general tso chicken has a nice crunch to it and they tend to have better chicken than other places. I don't think I've ever had it and it'd be soggy unless I'm reheating it which does not count. The woman there tends to be very friendly. Who takes the orders, they have to have a system that gives the name of the customer because she always knows my name and greets him with a hello Mike when she answers the phone. Now if I ordered more regularly I could totally see her knowing my name. However, I do not order frequently enough for her to know who I am, which makes me think they have to have some sort of system. Either way it's nice or is she just that good at her job. All in all, I don't think you can go wrong. Getting takeout from here. I've tried some other spots in town with high recommendations and have been sorely disappointed. General Tso's Chicken was pretty good, nice and spicy but the rice tasted funny. It was undercooked and the strong taste of oil used to make it meant it was probably old oil being re-used. The wonton soup was probably the best thing I had, the egg roll was meh... just ok. read more

All the food is not made from scratch. Noodles are from a box, ragoons are from a box and we're sweet as candy and dough too tough to eat. Beef was tender in mai fun but they used angel hair pasta. Not authentic Chinese cuisine at all. Very disappointing!!! read more

Sultan Wok left menus on my door last week and I decided to give them a try this past Friday night and boy was I impressed! I ordered on their online portal (so convenient) and within minutes they called me to get my payment information and within 30 minutes, I had the food delivered to my door. This was extremely impressive, seeing as I am not even in the same town as the restaurant. When the food arrived it was STEAMING hot so I know it didn't sit around waiting to be delivered. I had the chicken and broccoli combo dinner and my boyfriend had the boneless ribs combo. Both were very good. However, the boneless ribs were the better of the 2 meals. What stuck out about the ribs was that they were thick cut unlike many other Chinese restaurants. This made a big difference and they were absolutely delicious. The only negative I can say about my dinner was the fried rice was a bit too salty for my taste- but this didn't stop me from eating the entire portion lol I will be ordering from Sultan Wok in the future for sure. read more

I ordered lunch delivery from Sultan Wok. My lunch special did not make it to the delivery minimum, so I added the pan fried chicken dumplings. I was also given lots of sauce packets, a fortune cookie, fried noodle chips, and utensils. The shrimp chow mein was alright. I kept looking up images of chow mein online to see what I would be receiving. There were many different images, and I wasn't expecting my food to look the way it was. Regardless, it was nice to have a mostly vegetable meal. The pork fried rice was delicious. Not salty or anything. I poured soy sauce and hot sauce over both the shrimp chow mein and pork fried rice for extra flavor. I really loved the pan fried chicken dumplings. They come with a dipping sauce that tastes a little salty. The dumplings were fried to perfection. They had a slight crunch and then were soft on the inside. The chicken on the inside was flavorful. I preferred these over the shrimp chow mein. I'll definitely be ordering the pan fried chicken dumplings from here again. read more

The friendliest service and the best sushi I've found to date! I first reviewed this lovely place about 7 months ago and I am still a regular here. The employee staff greet you like a personal friend every time you come in. They even know my order so well that they always throw in an extra spicy mayo for free. I have tried many other sushi places all over NJ and none have rivaled their spicy tuna roll. I will admit my order is usually just the spicy tuna and I have not tried a huge amount of their menu, but all of my friends with whom I have shared their food have agreed on how phenomenal it is. Food and service is always great. Delivered within 35 minutes normally. Food portions are great, even when you order chicken and broccoli or beef in broccol. I feel that other locations always tend to send less of the protein and more broccoli. Broccoli is normally still crunchy. Sultan Wok is our go to for sure. We ordered 4 sushi rolls for delivery. Christmas roll (tuna, avocado, tobiko): for someone who usually hates tuna, this roll was actually not bad. Tuna is fresh. Spicy salmon roll: it's okay. It's a little too mushy for me, but I could see how other people would like it. Alaska roll (cooked salmon and cucumber): this roll is very good. Taste and texture both on point. American roll (shrimp tempura, cucumber, crab cake, avocado): this is my favorite one. There are 4 pieces instead of 6, but the pieces are huge. The rolls fell apart easily and were a little sloppy, but they weren't bad. Overall okay. You cannot login to your account on their website on mobile. If you try to do this, you will get a notification that says the email and password aren't associated with an account. You can only login on an actual computer, so this isn't always the most convenient for placing an order online. Delivery took longer than expected. read more

Have nothing bad to say about this restaurant, which has been in Highland Park for 17 years (we just never tried them out, surprisingly!) We got their flyers all the time though.... :-) and yes, they deliver to North Brunswick! That's quite a range to cover. Ordered the basics: Chicken w/cashew lunch special and Chicken Pad Thai. I asked for low sodium, low oil preparation, and the server politely said that they do not add salt, except for the soy sauce. And it shows in the result -- it's really not oily, and not salty at all. While the pad thai is missing the basil, it's still delicious. The lunch special has a more than average quality, both with generous portions. The place itself is small and cramped space inside, with only two small tables with high chairs camouflaged among stacks of boxes of take-out menus, so obviously it's geared for take-outs. Very small low key place. It's more for take out. The wait was not long for my Boston Roll, which was delicious. The only bad thing was that the ginger was really really dry. They have great reasonable prices and they don't limit themselves to just sushi. Came here for lunch from New Brunswick because of their prices. So, this place used to be my go-to for delivery for work lunches and at-home dinners. They have a good variety of bentos, Thai, Chinese, and Asian selections. I ordered at least twice a week. Then, one day, their delivery man/driver yelled at me for not tipping him enough, I let it go but he did it repeatedly. He has a miserable attitude. When delivering to me at work, I don't even ask him to enter the building and come to my floor, or my office area. I simply come down and meet him at the door to the lobby to make it easy for HIM. Then, he would sit in his car and wait for me to approach it to get my order - even in the rain. Are you kidding me? And if this guy's miserable attitude wasn't enough, I decided to scrutinize my bills only to find that I am charged a delivery fee AND a service charge in addition to the price of entrees, tax, and driver tip. There might even be a packaging fee in addition to those, and I'm not sure if they have jumped on the "credit card fee" bandwagon now. As a rule, I don't pay businesses to do business with me, so if there's a cc fee, I simply go elsewhere. That's the establishment's cost of doing business and not the customer's responsibility. And I don't pay packaging fees particularly if they are a takeout restaurant!!! This is getting out of control now. I get that Grub Hub and DoorDash and those services need to make money so they jack up the restaurant's prices, but then their delivery and subsequent fees are exorbitant on top of it. The customer sometimes ends up paying TWICE the price of their food!! But Sultan Wok? They deliver their own product and they are a takeout venue. I'll miss them, but I'm done with this nonsense. Oh, and let me add that their styrofoam soup container, which used to be at least 8 ounces, is now served in styrofoam cup that is used primarily for condiments - 2 ounces. So I loved this place the sushi was decent UNTILLLLL I got a chicken bento box A. And well, you get the gist from the pictures. Don't get anything from the cooked menu honestly. Last time I got sweet and sour chicken and it was completely soggy by the time it came bc they packed the chicken so tightly in a Chinese take out box that it started to get steamy and soggy. Idk. He said I need to pay attention to my phone and that he called several times, but I was sitting right next to my phone and there were absolutely no missed calls. My husband and I were craving Chinese food and thought we would give this place a try. We ordered delivery on a Thursday night for dinner. It took about an hour for the food to arrive. We ordered vegetable lo mein, general tsos bean curd and ma po tofu. The serves were big and we had tons of leftovers for the next day. The tofu dishes came with a side of white rice each. The ma po tofu was a bit disappointing because it wasn't very spicy. The general tsos was mediocre, nothing special. The vegetables lo mein was way too oily and had too much sauce. Felt like ordering in today so I went with Sultan Wok. I got an order of sushi and the Chef special seafood over pan fried noodles. Sushi was okay, wasabi was chalky and not spicy. Seafood dish is disappointing... The fried noodles are different than normal pan fried dishes - they're like thin and chewy lo mein rather than the thin egg noodles. I ordered this dish for the seafood and instead of real crab meat they threw in the fake stuff (which tastes awful, by the way). They also gave me ONE piece of dry, rubbery, and bland lobster. Oh, I just noticed a couple rubber pellets, which I am assuming are the scallops. Yum! The delivery was pretty quick which was good, and the food hot. Sultan Wok is great. High quality take out. Have an extensive Asian menu. The Chinese and Japanese food are their best sellers, but they now serve some Thai food. I love their Pad Thai too. I have gotten many sushi rolls from them and they're good. Soups are good. The owners are very nice and very busy. I think delivery is a little slow, only used delivery a few times but I usually just walk over and pick it up. If you're looking for Asian take out, go there. They often have specials. A pretty standard Chinese menu. It looks like they have sushi and Thai as well, but I was not brave enough to try it. My boyfriend and I ordered fried vegetable dumplings and veggie lo mean to split, and I had a bean curd and veggie soup. The lo mein was pretty standard and the soup didn't have a lot of flavor, but they did take the initiative to ask if I would like clear broth instead of chicken broth as I am a vegetarian, which I would not have thought to do myself. I was impressed by the dumplings, which were blue! We had the option to order rainbow dumplings as well, and I would love to see what those look like. Overall, the food was pretty average, but for the low price you can't get much better. I should also note that this is take-out/delivery only--there is no seating. We picked up our dinners & my Hubby was blown away. Generous portions, pristinely packed, cool, fresh & delicious. I couldn't even finish! (Was happy to enjoy the next day. I just waited over 50 minutes for delivery from this restaurant that is exactly 1 mile from my house. When I called to inquiry about my order, the guy who answered told me that the delivery guy took 4 or 5 orders so it could be another 15 minutes. When I questioned how hot my food could possibly be after riding around in a car for so long, he laughed and said it would not be hot but it would be definitely be warm. Well, he was wrong. CREDIT CARD WARNING!!!! Do NOT use a credit card when ordering from Sultan Wok online. My wife and I have ordered from both the Sayreville and Higland Park locations over the past two years and in recent months FOUR of our credit cards have been compromised and used in unauthorized online purchases. Fortunately, our banks have been attentive and have notified us before there was too much damage done. The annoyance is having to cancel our cards and be without them until we get a new one in the mail. Sometimes you rock me, sometimes you roll... Sultan Wok is a Highland Park favorite for quick take-out, but they are quite consistently inconsistent. Take their pork rolls: simple, steamed. Some days they're a little too doughy. Other days the sauce might have a hint of ginger. Ya never know! Or the miso soup: Will it be soft or hard tofu today? Once I got sashimi here that blew my mind!, another time I got tuna rolls that tasted like soap. It's almost like playing the lotto without the gambling problem or the misrepresented funds. They have great specials, especially for lunch or large orders. They deliver, which you can do with the click of your fat finger on their website if you care to. Or, if you opt for take-out (there is no dine-in), the wait is never more than 15 minutes. Check them out, but proceed with caution. **** CREDIT CARD WARNING **** Like about half a dozen other reviewers, my credit card which was registered with Sultan Wok has also been compromised. TWO YEARS IN A ROW. While I can't prove it, it is quite a coincidence. This is the second time in two years my credit card has to be replaced due to fraud. I will not be giving them my card again, obviously. If I can pay cash by ordering online I will order with them again, but NO MORE CREDIT CARD NUMBERS WILL BE GIVEN TO THEM EVER. Update: Jan 2015. Ordered via website (payment method: CASH) and got a warning that the information sent over the site is not encrypted and can be visible to anyone. Since I wasn't using my (new) credit card there was no security risk, but clearly they are using a completely non-secure ordering system. I was visiting in town on business and had this horrible experience. I travel alot and am pretty lenient on Chinese food quality as I know I am biased by living in SF. This place took almost 90 minutes to deliver my food and it was cold by the time I got it. I couldn't refuse it as I was starving at that point. In hind sight I wish I had. I would rather have had Panda Express than food again from Sultan Wok. This could possibly be the worst Chinese food I have ever had and I don't know how folks can rate this place any higher than average on a good day. The general Tso's chicken was the most edible. The dumplings were horrific, I couldn't even tell what the brown ball inside was, hot and sour soup was typical...nothing special and the beef was low quality.
