Sweet treats right across Metrotown on Kingsway is this Korean dessert and beverage place. My friend and I were in the mood of bingsu so we ordered the smaller size (single) - sweet red bean and injeolmi respectively. The place is nice and convenient and the service was good. However, the pricing is a bit too much for its size. I have been to other Korean shaved ice places who have more varieties on one order. The injeolmi bingsu I had was just injeolmi on the surface finished off with almond flakes. It came with some condensed milk on the side. I didn't use the additional condensed milk as the sweetness was enough for me. The centre of the shaved ice was red bean and condensed milk. It was pretty much the same as my friend's, except that the sweet red bean bingsu had red bean inside and outside, and it was topped with some injeolmi. The flavour was good. The shaved ice was fluffy. I would try another bingsu or their lava bread for a taste of it even though they are expensive.
This is my favorite place for bingsu. The texture is most similar to those found in Asia. It is not supposed to be shaved ice but more like shaved snow but with a slight milky taste to it. Some places in asia actually serve it with a small cup of condensed milk too. Not here though. I also like that it has a small and regular size. I still find the small too big for one to finish so it is best to share this treat. It can get busy here. Street parking is available.
Recently came back after a long time away from this place. Overall I would say the past tasted better than now. Maybe because it was close to the store closing, but their Injeolmi toast was not as warm as I had wanted, still a satisfying dessert nonetheless with the oozy mochi center. The green tea bingsu is what you'd expect from a Korean shaved ice. Surprise was the seemingly endless red bean paste! The ice cream definitely tastes in house as the icy consistency is made to ensure you reach the bottom and still get that last bite of ice cream.
Every bingsoo place I go to, I order strawberry so you know I have tried quite a bit of strawberry shaved ice in my life. First taste, it was wayyyyy too sweet. It was almost hard for me to eat it. And I have a sweet tooth. It wasn't the shaved ice itself but the strawberry syrup they added on top. The ice cream on top wasn't too good either. If you want some good shaved ice, I'd recommend going to other places even if this is more convenient as it's located right by Metrotown. Not only that, it's a bit more expensive than other places and the quality does not match the price. However, there are very cute claw machines outside the shop. It was $2 for one try and I was like fuck it yanno, so I tried one time. The plush I wanted was really close to the exit hole thing but omg the claw was so weak. TLDR; don't come here unless you like overpriced desserts and have a sweet sweet tooth. also, don't play the claw machines, it's sooo rigged. if you want to play, go in the one by crystal mall, it's not rigged and there are cuter stuffed animals!
If it weren't for one thing I saw the night I went, I would give this place a 5 star rating. to say that the desserts here are BIG ... is an understatement! They are ginormous with HUGE flavours to match! We ordered the Mango Banana Bingsu and the Honey Bread topped with fresh strawberries. We were in awe of the size first of all. The Bingsu was bigger than my head! the Honey Bread was even bigger! haha. Definitely sized for sharing. Priced for sharing as well!! They used fresh fruit for both desserts. A scoop of ice-cream each, and tons of whipped cream. Just all around dessert Haven. The mountain of shaved ice was densely packed and smooth almost powdery; not rough and crunchy. Half way through the Bingsu you got to the pool of fruit juice on the bottom of the bowl ... mmmmmmmmmm Heaven! The honey cake was served warm. soft and chewy on the inside, hot and crunchy on the outside. Topped with a mountain of ice cream, fresh strawberries, and whipped cream!! You have to go try it to fully understand what I'm getting at!! I'm not too sure how long they've been open, but I would say fairly recently. Everything is bright and shiny. The display case has replicas of the desserts. This is what drew us in! It was quite crowded. it was Saturday night past 10pm. So what I saw to make me minus one star is that the person prepping the desserts in the back area was not wearing gloves or using utensils. She was using her bare hands.
If you have tried Snowy Village than this place is a no go. Its ran by Chinese trying to be Korean. The staff their are very disorganized. They will mix up 1 order out of every 3. It was amusing to watch. So I got the mango cheese bingsoo but without the cheese. I love cheese but don't feel like having it. Instead of adding more mango to it, they just took away the cheese. Their bingsoo is very lacking. They are very cheap on the mango. The only mango you see are the ones on top of it. No other mango in the middle. They also don't use quality mango. Yes unlike most mango places, they use the cheaper mangos Atkins or Haden. They should be using the Ataulfo mango. So the mango turned out to be sour. Well I can see why. The cost is the main thing. A large bingsoo here is $13.99 wow they sure know how to make the most for what they are charging. Ice is cheap and the mango can be purchased at superstore for 10 for $5.99. Unlike Ataulfo mango its $1.99 per lb. They add an scoup of ice cream on top. Definitely not worth the price. This place is currently busy because they don't have competitor as of now. As well, the location is just right across from Metrotown. I can see this place failing after the hype. Unless they change. Once you try the real stuff Snowy than this place is a no go! Never coming back
Shaved ice is a great substitute for real ice cream if you love icy stuff, but can't afford all the calories in ice cream. I think they could work on how they put their desserts together. The balance of ice to ice cream, and other toppings.
Near Metrotown, this seems to be the only shaved ice place other than Crystal mall, and after hours of back to school shopping, I had to drop by for a quick snack. We shared the mango banana shaved ice, and for a regular portion, it was more than enough for the both of us. Similar to Snowy Village, the ice is sweet and milky rather than just water, and the mango was a great topping. Unlike some places that have frozen mango, this mango was surprisingly fresh and had a bit of sourness that was perfect. They also have alot of seating and cute decorations. I saw alot of ppl ordering the injeolmi flavour, so that's definitely on my list for next time!
So glad there's new Korean dessert cafe near Metrotown called Sulmida. There are only Snowy Village in 2 locations and Sulmida is located near Metrotown which is more convienent for me. Yay, no need to head to downtown for Snowy. I've been really wanting to try their desserts prior to opening. Crowds were mostly young people and we saw Korean elders next to our table. I got Yogurt Berry Bingsoo ($13.75 for a full size) to share with my sister. It was so yummy, delicious and refreshing. Ice shavings were milky and delicious. It DID taste like yogurt on the bottom of the milk shaving. Perfect dessert for a hot day like today. Service was fast. Sulmida tends to have more variety of bingsoo as they have Melon, Choco, Mango Banana, Mango Cheese, Yogurt Berry and Custard Pudding Bingsoo (Tiramisu, Berry Pudding and Green Tea Pudding are available for $10. for a single size).
Was super excited to hear that a new bingsu place opened up so closed to home! Interior was super simple and nice. Menu was straight forward and we decided to try the red bean bingsu and original injoelmi toast. Red bean bingsu was alright. The bingsu had this funny milk taste to it and was unlike other typical creamy and milky bingsu that we've had. I thought that it tasted a little like milk powder, but we weren't exactly sure and couldn't quite pin what was contributing to the funny milk taste (it definitely was not a sour/gone bad taste, was just a different kind of milk taste). Although, it wasn't too much of a problem as condensed milk was provided on the side, and helped mask the funny milk taste when we poured it on top. The red bean bingsu also came with injoelmi bites, and unfortunately we were disappointed as it tasted like the mochi that are typically served at Menchies. This was the first time I've ever tried an injoelmi toast. I found it more enjoyable than the bingsu. The injoelmi was sandwiched between two slices of toast with soybean powder all over it, and was topped off with a scoop of ice cream, caramel drizzle and almond slices. The injoelmi in the toast was softer and tasted better than the injoelmi bites in the bingsu. I enjoyed the toast combination overall, but I thought that the caramel overpowered and Westernized the Asian soybean powder. Thought that it was a little pricey for the quality of the food, but still a place worth trying out!
*Pay by cash because the card machine makes you pay a 12-18% tip which you are not informed about and is way more than your average 25 cent surcharge.* Sweet red bean was good, full size is massive for two people. It was nice how there was a layer of red bean underneath but wish there was more almond and injeolmi. The shaved ice is packed on like a hill so it is very difficult to spoon out without causing an avalanche, but it was nice and fluffy when you manage to get some. Pricey for what it is, rather go to Snowy Village. There are two parking spots in the back. Staff in working the till look like they don't care and are just on their phones.
Great lava cake! Not a big fan of the bingsu, too much ice towards the bottom. Tip: ask for an extra scoop of ice cream for your lava cake! And everything is for sharing only, even 2 adults won't be able to finish it, and you can't really take this stuff home.
You know the feeling you get when after purchasing something overpriced and as a result, you try to justify that something being worth the price. Post-buyer's-remorse denial or something along that line? That's exactly the feeling one would get after having paid $12 for what is essentially a $3 melon, ice and condensed milk. Don't get me wrong, the combination of those three things work in perfect harmony as they slowly melt in your mouth on hot summer afternoon; however, the thought of eating this overpriced dessert may also slowly melt your brain. Service was definitely friendly and I truly enjoyed my time there slowly chomping down on sweet ice and watching a Korean variety show of which I understood nothing. All in all, not a bad place to try at least once given the price point. If you're loaded though, then go nuts getting brain freezes. Four Stars: ****
Strawberry bingsu was actually not that great. The snow wasn't very milky and had chunckier flakes than most. They also only put strawberries on top with no layers of strawberries beneath. Nearing the end, we only had icy snow and strawberry syrup without any fruit left. Mango cheese lava toast definitely saved the day. Had a warm, dense, and soft toast block covered with cubes of mango. The cheese paired so well with the warm toast too. The mango syrup glued everything together but was more jam-like than jelly-like which I really appreciated. Both had sweet cream ice cream on top which was nice as it added another creamy base while not clashing with the fruit. At $18.95 CAD for a toast, it is definitely a splurge but might be worth it. read more
My very first review for the year 2022 Small Dessert cafe along Kingsway, infront of Metrotown. Street metered parking and can be tough sometimes. Roughly can accomodate a dozen -15 patrons. 1 man show when we came and restaurant is half full already so orders are kinda late. Few interesting choices from the menu. I visited with 2 friends with me,we had the mango bingsu and the green tea lava cake. Reviewing a dessert is not really easy because most cafe offers thesame and all loaded with either sugar or cream so everthing taste good. Anyhow we ordered the full size,no drinks just water which we is not offered unless we asked for it hahahaha we need to flush those fructose from throat to gut. Service is customer oriented but only one person for everything so delays is expected. Neat place, simple decors,1 washroom all genders hahahaha. Pretty expensive in here but I gez everywhere a descent dessert can really be pricey. The mango Bingsu is so good, big chunks of mango and cheese on finely ice catchang.generous with milk, the lava bread is another dessert to die for, newly cooked bread with sugar iverload toppings, served in a very nice presentation. No single complaint we will actually planning to revisit so we can try more. Noise level is morethan average that is because of the three of us,we were laughing like there is no tomorrow hahahaha.. Accept cash, debit and credit cards. By the way the washroom needs some make over and frequent cleaning. Good for small group and best for kids and people who enjoy sugar overload. Good place for a Korean dessert Kudos!! read more
One of my go to places for dessert in the Metrotown area. Often very crowded, especially after dinner, I love their classic Korean dessert the bingsoo and thick toast. They serve some smaller sizes for takeout and are a good alternative if you are not wanting to wait. read more

Very conveniently located right across Metrotown on Kingsway. It's quite easy to walk across the street to chill with some friends or grab a dessert after a meal. I have tried a variety of bingsoos over several different visits - melon, mango cheesecake, strawberry, and injeolmi. While the toppings are great, I find that the ice itself isn't as good as Snowy Village. The condensed milk inside the ice isn't as concentrated, and the ice isn't as soft and powdery. Prices for both joints are about the same, though Sulmida tend to give less topping. Regardless, this place can get very busy due to it's popular location and small interior. It's also a good idea to bring wet wipes as tables/chairs tend to get sticky from previous customers and servers aren't always available to help clean up. read more
Came here one evening after, the small place is packed! The turn over rate seems to flow smoothly, so wait time isn't too long. We sat down and ordered at the cashier. Because it's the winter months, they charge extra $3 for all the mango products, which deterred us from ordering mango ones. We finally settled on Matcha lava bread! We waited for quite a while, 10-15mins. The presentation is well done! They used good quality matcha and real oreo crumbles. It was delicious, warm and gooey, not too sweet. Thoroughly enjoyed my experience but keep in mind the wait times are unexpected! read more

If you have a sweet tooth like me and you're able to indulge sugar in a large quantity, Sulmida desert cafe got your back!! This was my third time having desert there and it just keeps getting better. The cafe itself is a cute place with some shaved ice and lava breads on showcase. I ordered the mango cheesecake lavabread and the cashier gave me a notice that the wait time will be around 15mins. This desert was comprised of warm toast bread, two scoops of vanilla ice cream, whip cream, mango custard cream inside the toast which oozes out as you cut through the toast. And topped off by mango and cheese chunks. Last but not least, it was drizzled with condense milk along with almonds for some extra crunch. It was VERY rich and filling but such a delicacy. Be prepared to ditch all your dietary restrictions before ordering anything from there. Tip: Get only one desert and share it with one or two peoplei read more
This place is located across from the Metrotown shopping center, which allows for relatively easy parking. There is also metered parking along Kingsway. Inside, the place is warm and cozy with modern bright lighting. However, space is limited and it could get crowded fast. There is free wifi at this place and the service is relatively prompt. read more
I'm always on the hunt for a good bingsu dessert!!! I was super excited to try this location; however it didn't turn out as good as I hoped. The Bingsu was a bit plain for me, there wasn't enough flavour to the fluffy shaved ice. We ordered the Melon and Strawberry bingsu. The melon one was unique but we felt it wasn't quite worth our $15. The displayed was nice but once you start to eat, all the melons started to fall apart and rolled all over the place.... The strawberry bingsu was a bit better with flavours. We also ordered their hazelnut latte to try and i appreciate the staff tried to do cafe art but it didn't turn out very nice (oops!). Staff were nice and interior appeared clean and modern. I'm not sure if it's worth to pay $12-15 for a bowl of shaved ice here... read more

Decided to check this place out since I have seen some friends post photos from here, its right across the street from Metrotown making it very convenient to get to! The inside is very decorated very simple and minimalistic, quite a relaxing atmosphere except the occasional high upbeat songs playing and I also found it very cleanly and the staff were very helpful as well. I went with 2 other friends and we all ordered a full sized bingsoo each (Green Tea, Mango&Banana and Mango Cheese[cake]) which I can say is a little too much for one person to finish, so I would stick to a regular size if you're eating one to yourself. Flavour wise they tasted great! Everything was flavoured well, I would have to say, the fruit flavoured ones had a very refreshing taste to them which I quite enjoyed. Most definitely will visit again in the near future! read more

If you're craving anything sweet, this is a pretty good place to hit up. I've tried both the strawberry and green tea bingsoo. The strawberry is good if you're not too big of a fan of very sweet things, like me. It wasn't spectacular, it was just so-so for me. This place is definitely Instagram-worthy. Do it for the gram right? The interior design is amazing. You can tell they really put the effort in making the place beautiful. The service was also spectacular. The waitress was very attentive and care to detail. P.S. If you're going on a weekend, be prepared to wait. It's usually very popular around that time. read more

This has brought toast to the next level for me. First of all, I've never experienced toast as a dessert before. My friends and I stopped in after a hot pot dinner and we wanted something sweet. I've never been to this type to dessert cafe before but I was definitely open to trying it and it was located very conveniently to hot pot. I saw all these beautiful shaved ice desserts but I have sensitive teeth and I was apprehensive to order one so I opted for the toast option, that I originally thought was cake. SO GOOD! It was a thick chunk of sweet toast with whipped cream, ice cream, strawberries, and sauce. I've never had more delicious toast! And after discussing with my friends, apparently the shaved ice is not offensively cold, so I would totally be open to coming back and ordering the shaved ice! read more

We came with the Groupon which gives you 1 shaved ice and 1 lava cake. The shaved ice is not as milky as Snowy Village if I had to compare. It was more bland and just icy rather than flavoured. The lava cake was great and it took me by surprise as I saw some reviews stating it was not good. It was soft and was filled with goodness inside. read more

We had driven by this dessert spot for a while now and finally decided to drop by today! The melon snow ice is nicely prepared but a bit pricey in our opinion. The ice sits on one half of an actual melon. The challenge is pretty much to scoop the rest of the melon around the skin which can be tricky. Apart from the price, this place is worth visiting. Plenty of seating available. read more

I would give this place 3.5 stars. This was my first time trying a shaved ice bowl, and I shared the Mango Banana with a friend. The ice was fine and powdery, but it lacked the sweetness I expected. There was some mango sauce drizzled on top, but I would have preferred more. Also, the fruit to ice ratio for the bananas was pretty low. There was maybe half a banana's worth of slices, but there were lots of mango at the bottom. The ice cream scoop on top was plain vanilla and small, but enough to add a bit of creaminess to the dessert. read more

The bingsoo is not the greatest here, so we ordered the green tea lava cake (thick toast), and injeolmi toast. The lava cake was decent, we might order it again. Wish there was another scoop of ice cream on the injeolmi toast, but we still ate it all. Not sure if we would order it again, though. read more
My friend and I had the injulme bingsoo. The actual shaved ice portion of the dessert was mediocre. I prefer my snow ice to be creamier and I found this to be a bit more on the watery side. The mochi was quite tasty but froze easily because they were so small. There seemed to be a generous amount of injulme but again the consistency of the ice soaked through. We were surprised with some red beans hidden in the middle of the dessert! The actual Cafe was lovely. Brightly lit and decorated with minimalism in mind. Might stop by to try their honey toast that looked quite unconventional from the food models at the cash area. read more
I saw this reviewed on the front page of Yelp on August 20th and book marked it for future reference. It is not too far away from Metrotown. The interior is very clean and sleek. I came here for the toast Box with Gareth. The price was very reasonable for a large toast Box. I haven't had a lot Of toasts boxes, therefore, I'm just getting into this fad. The bread they use is a sweet bread that has some elements of a croissant. It was a 20 minute wait which is standard at most Korean dessert cafes. They had some amusing J-Pop videos in the background. Bonus points as this place is open until late night. Very good and friendly customer service. This read more

After a long day of shopping we stopped there to try it out and we really liked it. We shared a regular portion Oreo ice cream and we couldn't finish it. The portion is really big. I definitely want to go back and try the mango one. read more

quite enjoy the dessert here, come here like twice a month. the best one for me is the green tea flavor smoothed ice. the bread is too big to have after any meal. sharing is better, but they dont have small sharing plates. i will recomend this place to my friends. read more

Strawberry bingsu is a little sweet. Mango and banana bingsu taste sweet and sour, your taste bud won't get bored. Two ppl can't finish the full size. We will order the smaller one next time. read more
My sister kept raging about this place so I decided to check it out. I guess I came at the end of berry season because there wasn't much berry in mine like the photo. I was quite disappointed. But all in all still good go to for ice cream/flake dessert. read more
