Returned after 2 years....what in the world happened to this business? I normally work with Natale…read more Today it was her son. Barely spoke to me. I brought in a pair pants and a pair of patchwork jeans jorts. Nothing overly complicated for an experienced alteration. I'd had them alter 8-9 pieces in the past. But this time I barely get in the door and he (owner) lets me know he is just too busy to alter a pair of slacks in the waist and these jeans jorts. His body language and tone surprised me. I wasn't in a hurry to get them altered so I asked him what was the estimated time. That would have been a great question to ask me...patience I have... He says mid October and I say that's fine. What bothered me is he asked me to enter the dressing room and try on the item I needed altered. He gets a woman to come back. She's great! I overheard him telling her that it was too difficult but the lady is pinning me and quite good. He enters the alteration area with comments that clearly let both of us know he doesn't want her to do the job...maybe he is overwhelmed with a heavy workload. He says to me it's not worth the cost to alter the jorts. I state again I am willing to pay for the work done. Do you know he sat 100.00 dollar? I thought before I try on the slacks I'm going to leave and never enter this business again. He may not be aware of his unprofessional attitude and behavior but I hope he understands it's not the money... it's the professionalism and courteous manner he's sadly lacking. Quality is great. Service requested deserves a zero. But out of respect for Natale I'll give 1 star.

Earlier this month, I had 5 pairs of pants hemmed. When I tried them on at home (after the…read morealterations), all five pairs of pants were too long and were dragging on the ground. I wore them with the exact shoes they were measured with and I did not wash or wear any of the pants. I brought all five pants back in the store and spoke with the owner directly, telling her that all five pants were too long and they were dragging on the ground. I asked if I could try them on and show her. She said that if the pants were too long, then it must be because I wanted them to be long. I said, "No, you have hemmed many of my pants and you know I do not like them that long." I asked again if I could try them on and show her. She said "No, it doesn't matter. I don't make mistakes. YOU must be the problem." She refused to even look at the pants, so I left. BEWARE! I have taken my alterations to Shockoe Bottom Cleaners with a total of ~15 pairs of pants to be hemmed over the past 18 months. I chose them because they are close to work. I have never had a problem with them prior to this week - they are usually very nice, as I am a regular. I feel a true measure of a store's integrity is how they view customer service and if/how they try to please their customer. I am a regular (they know me by face) and they still refused to treat me with respect. It is a shame because now they have lost me as a customer. (I cannot speak on behalf of their dry cleaning services, although they seem reliable.)

Owner became offended and told me that customers never ask to try their clothes on. There was also a stain that was not there beforehand and she insisted that it was stained when I dropped it off. Honestly I'd probably go somewhere else for alterations.

I've tried a couple other tailors in town when turnaround wasn't going to be as quick as I wanted, but quickly came back for my regular items --- and many priority items, since. There's not much variety in what I've brought in (so far), but I'm still pretty comfortable leaving a review that says Art Tailors is the best in town. PS - It is my understanding that Nora has only owned this business for a few years now, so older reviews may no longer be relevant.

Becuase I've only needed minot adjustments, it's taken less than 10 minutes for her to pin my attire to the needed measurements. Mary was so great with my kids! She was able to coax my toddler into trying on his outfit so she could measure and pin him. She was fantastic with my baby and was making him smile and laugh while she pinned him. Only downside is she does not take credit cards, only cash, check or Zelle and at the time the Zelle account she uses wasn't working. Price for rush alternations was pretty fair. I needed her to hem both the pants and sleeves of both outfits and take in the waist for of my older sons' pants. With rush costs it was about $90.

After researching and seeing such consistent, high reviews, I decided to check it out. Ms. Betty from the shop was very polite and was very attentive to what I needed her to do. I had a very, very old t-shirt (probably close to 30-35 years old) that is one of my favorites and had a ton of holes that needed to be patched up, a long-sleeve button down that had a huge hole in the sleeve, and some swimming trunks that needed to have a hole repaired. She finished all the repairs in less than a week and for a super reasonable cost. The quality on all of the repairs is immaculate, sturdy, and barely noticeable. Now I feel like I can get many more years out of my favorite items. Ms. Betty is straight to the point and quite simply, does exactly what you need her to do, and at a price point that I feel is very fair. I plan to take all of my future clothes to be repaired/tailored here, and I cannot recommend her services enough.
