To start, I came here solo for lunch before work and despite there only being 2 other couples dining, it took almost 10 minutes to be sat. Normally I would have left long before then, but I decided to stick it out side I have been craving Thai food. For the lunch special, I started with the crab wontons, which were practically tasteless. Fortunately, the peanut sauce was decent and made up for the bland wontons. I went with the pad thai with tofu for my entree, which was a pleasant surprise after the lackluster appetizer. That being said, it still wasn't amazing. It was just an average, adequate noodle dish. It definitely lacked flavor, but it was still tolerable. Throughout my meal, I was not checked up on once and my empty drink glass sat at the edge of my table the entire time. All in all, Sukhothai definitely needs to brush up on their customer service and has very bland food. It wasn't HORRIBLE but I still would not return. read more

Pro: Pleasing enough ambiance. Cons: Their version of Pad Thai was a disgusting slimy mess. Needless to say, it was not like other versions in reputable restaurants. Plus the portion was small and grossly over priced! And to add insult to injury even their Thai ice tea was a serious disappointment. It had a strange and unpleasant taste. We really like this place. The decor is nice and service is always top-notch, but doesn't always foster an intimate, relaxing dinner (gets loud and very crowded- hard to hear others at your table). The food is good. My go-to meals are drunken noodle (best taste/spice/flavor in the Lancaster area), sweet basil stir-fry, and coconut rice. Also love the appetizer sampler- crab Rangoon, crispy rolls, shrimp rolls. The only cons of this place are the overpriced menu (being byob makes up for the price though) and the curries- red and green. Parking can be a little tricky because there are 2 entrances. Once you are in, the decor is beautiful. But that's when it all changes. The staff is super friendly, but the service is extremely extremely slow. To get a menu after being seated 20 minutes + was like pulling teeth. Forget getting drinks. You will have to wait another 20 minutes + for someone to come take your drink order. That slow. We came on a week night that wasn't busy either and yes, the food took forever to arrive at the table. The food is just ok. Not bad or disgusting in any way but not the authentic bold flavors that you would taste in Thai cuisine. Very mild. read more

For me, it's bordering on 2.5, but I'll stick with 3 stars. The food was decently spiced, and I can't point out any obvious technical flaws, but to be honest I don't think I saw anything that wouldn't be on the menu of virtually very Thai restaurant I've seen in the US. One important thing to note is that in a large group, one half of the table was served, and after a very long delay most of the second half, and then very slowly the remaining few plates. I know it was a large group, but when you're sitting down and you're either looking hungrily at the food, or realize someone is doing it to yours while the meal remains in a complete standstill...people notice that kind of pause. read more

Dined last week at the new Sukhothai location off Harrisburg Ave, excited about Sukhothai's move to the city from Mountville. Parking at Champion Forge is notoriously stingy, so we took advantage of a beautiful late evening to walk to dinner. The restaurant's decor and ambiance is creative and intimate. We were in the mood for drinks, having forgotten that liquor at Sukhothai is BYO. Trying to stick with "exotic" we ordered the next best thing: Thai iced tea. We were disappointed when the server returned to tell us that they were "out". As we speculated how they could serve Thai coffee and iced-tea, but not Thai iced tea, we each made our food selections. The apps were terrific, and the entrees were tasty too. This, despite our server's bizarre comment when placing my curry that the "cook must be asleep." I didn't know what that meant then, and I still don't, but since I experienced no intestinal distress, it couldn't be all that bad. Then we noticed that someone at an adjacent table was served Thai iced-tea. Another mystery. Satisfied with our meal, we were a little surprised at how much we spent. Without alcohol or dessert, we still topped $25 per person after tipping. This is at the high end of what we're willing to pay in Lancaster, for very good, albeit uninspired Thai food, particularly with the mediocre service we received. But the quality of the decor and the convenience of the location will almost certainly bring us back, toting our own bottle-of-something to help us overlook the little inconsistencies and prepare us for the bill. read more

Okay, we tried Sukhothai again last night...very good! This time I ordered the drunken noodles "hot" in the spice department and THAT was what I was looking for last time. The heat this time made my lips tingle and served as a compliment to the flavors in the dish. My wife's brown curry seafood was silky, rich, and delicious. Her mango smoothie was fresh and delicious and my Thai iced tea was good. For desert we split the Tropical Island (banana wrapped in a wonton(?) and fried) served with vanilla ice cream, berry, mango, and coconut sauces. Delectable. I absolutely love Sukhothai. I will always recommend it. It feels authentic and genuine and the food is simply delicious. The coconut rice is amazing, always a part of our order. Everything I've had in my multiple visits is fresh, perfectly balanced and not too much flavor. Their spicy rating is very true to taste also. The atmosphere is lovely, and calm and the wait staff are all very polite and professional. I've never encountered a long wait or feeling neglected. This is my first review yet, but I feel like it is important to make diners aware. Today my husband and I ordered take out, we ordered the vegetarian drunken noodles and vegetarian brown curry (masamum). The brown curry was decent, not the best we had. It needed more flavor and more gravy. The drunken noodles were BAD and not restaurant quality. The noodles were overcooked, starchy, sticky and very dry. The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere for lunch, and this review is based on what we've experienced on the lunch menu. Most of the time we are very happy. The coconut soup is full of vegetables, though it was a little sweet this last time and lacked galangal and/or lime in my opinion. Hubby and I don't recommend the noodle dishes, since the Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles both have the same sauce, which isn't like what we've had at other Thai restaurants. Something is missing in the flavor. The curries are very good, and when I ask for medium spice it's got good heat and flavor. Recently, my green curry was just too basil forward for me (and I LOVE Thai basil.) As soon as they set it down I smelled something was different, and I'm pretty sure it was because it was overloaded with basil. I've also had the hot and sour soup, and it was very hot, almost to the point where I couldn't enjoy my entree, so go for it if you like it hot! It's a comfortable restaurant, very good service, and good food mostly .... Enjoy. I cannot get enough Sukothai! I love getting takeout, coming here with my bf, or coming with a large group. The service is fairly quick and always friendly. I have never had a bad meal here! The lunch special is unbeatable (app and main course for around $10). I recommend the brown curry with beef (medium spice), fresh rolls, and the crab wontons (REAL CRAB MEAT!). I highly recommend adding a side of coconut rice if you get a spicier dish to balance the spice with the sweetness of the rice. You really can't go wrong here. Dinner can get a bit pricey, but its totally worth it - especially since it is BYOB. read more

I love Sukhothai for lunch! Their lunch special appetizers are always an added treat. The staff is very attentive. The decor is simple and modern. I always over eat because the food is so flavorful. I often choose this restaurant not only because of the good flavor but it is also easy access just outside the city with a free parking lot. The few times I went on lunch break, it took a little too long and ran late even though I allowed for an hour.
