We ate there tonight on a suggestion from a friend of my father in law. When we arrived we noticed immediately on a Saturday night, how empty it was. But I dismissed that because most Chinese places are primarily takeout. Due to a shortage of staff, we had to order and pay at the counter. Again, not a big deal. Food took some time to arrive. I ordered Red Curry seafood delight and my brother ordered General Tso. Portion were generous and food was good. Heat level of my curry was appropriate. The only issue I had was that even though we were seated at tables, all food arrived in takeout containers, even the curry. Plates were just paper. Utensils were silverware though. If they served food on regular plates, they would get another star. But for takeout, they would be very acceptable. read more

No River, just a house. Had a vision of watching the sunset and eating Asian fusion. Ended up with excellent takeout. Long line. Staff wore masks and worked at cleanliness. Patrons without masks (the vast majority). And without observing basic public health guidelines. Crispy beef wasn't that crispy. And Pad Thai was bland (ordered mild). Reasonably priced. I am always on the lookout for places that I haven't been to that have at least one thing on their menu that intrigues me. Through my Yelp searches I discovered River House and noticed that their menu consists of Chinese, Thai and Indonesian. This is the first place that I've discovered in the central Pennsylvania area that offers anything Indonesian on the menu so on my day off from work I took the 37 minute drive to try this place out. The reviews online are good. Part of my trip there took me along the scenic Riverside route and it was nice to enjoy the autumn colors of the trees at this time of year. Upon entry into the restaurant there were two customers who were dining in and I was able to take seat wherever I wanted. Throughout the course of the meal two other customers dined in and several others came in to pick up their takeout orders. This place is pretty remote so it was interesting to find this kind of cuisine in this area. I first ordered the Soto Jakarta soup with a light broth, thinly sliced beef, cabbage, fried onions and the most delicate and thin angel hair noodles I've ever had. The soup was not bold in flavor but it stimulated my appetite. I then had their Singapore Mei Fun noodles and I ordered them extra spicy. Typically I would not order two noodle dishes back to back but I wanted to see what theirs was about. The Mei Fun was really the star of today's lunch. Super flavorful, great amount of heat which I like and the flavor lingered long after I finished eating. There were a couple other items on their menu that I want to try so that only goes to say that I'll have to return another day to get my fix. read more

Chinese/asian cuisine restaurant that is a bit off the beaten path but worth dropping by if you are in the York / Columbia PA area. The Hawaiian shaved ice is very good. The ice is not as fine shaved as those you would get from the islands but it is a close imitation with authentic flavors such as passion fruit & tigers blood (not actual tigers blood) with a snow cap (condensed milk topping) and a scoop of ice cream underneath it all. Have been going here now 2 years always order same thing boneless rib combo last 4 or 5 times really not good, thought I would give it another chance and can not even bite into them. Called used to be thin great tasting boneless ribs done giving chances wanted to add a picture of them but it won't let me they are rediculous! read more

We order from here at least 3 times a month. The service is fast and friendly, and the food is delicious, and well priced. Our favorites are egg rolls, crab Rangoon, fried wonton, shrimp lo mein, pad Thai, Singapore mei fun, chicken or shrimp and broccoli, fried rice, and the sweet and sour chicken. Very friendly! Staff take time to listen to your order and accommodate requests. In addition to the usual American Chinese and Thai dishes, there are some neat items on the menu, such as the soda with condensed milk and coco pandan syrup. It's nice to have some good dessert options with my Thai or Chinese food. As a vegetarian, what I especially appreciate about River House is that they'll add lots of vegetables if you ask for them, and they have several good vegetarian options. My tofu veggie red curry (ordered requesting extra vegetables) came with tofu that's not deep-fried, tender eggplant, and plenty of green veggies. Such vegetarian-friendly fare is not always easy to find in eastern York county. I personally found their shrimp lo mein a bit greasy and the sauce lacking something, but I often find Chinese noodles greasy, while my partner loved it. So I'd just suggest ordering carefully, according to your usual tastes in dishes served in American Asian restaurants. And enjoy the excellent service. :) read more

Food was great but we were missing an entree. Called the restaurant and they confirmed they still have it. Then called Door Dash to let them know and they said they can only credit the cost back. We didn't even care if it was a bit cold when we got it but they refused to deliver it. Now one family member goes hungry! Horrible customer service. Me and my group always visit Pennsylvania, and we always try to find Chinese Restaurant because they always serves it quick. But unfortunately, many of them either not clean, or too much noisy and always something make us unhappy at the end.. Yesterday we finally found one restaurant, here, that really awesome. The place is nice and clean, and the food so delicious. We also meet the owner and staffs that greet us very friendly. Definitely I'll recommend people to enjoy the food here, and for sure will come back whenever I'm around. You have to get your fabulous experience there. Try the Bean sprouts Tofu it's so fresh and tasty. Also their House Special Lo mein, you'll gonna come back for that.. Love it ! read more

Great little Chinese place just a couple of miles from the River. The food was very good as was the service. They have great lunch specials for under $6, including soup. Our table had shrimp pad Thai, Hunan chicken, pepper beef, and chicken with broccoli. All very good. They also serve ice cream and shaved ice which was a nice addition. My Sons loved having milk shakes to accompany their meals. This was our first time and we will be back the next time we visit the area. read more

River House is a fledgling Asian restaurant out in the sticks of eastern York county, located a half-block east of the flashing red light that marks the center of bustling downtown Craley, PA. It's ten minutes south of Wrightsville and only a few minutes from Long Level, a popular riverfront section of the Susquehanna. If you are looking for a change from the diners, pizza shops and bar food that are typical of the area, you should give River House a try. They deserve a chance to succeed and the area could use some variety. On our first visit, I had the Singapore Mei Fun, thin rice noodles with chicken, pork and beef and a Thai curry sauce, which I thought was good but not great. My wife had the Hunan Chicken, stir-fried chicken and vegetables in a mildly spicy brown sauce with rice, which we both thought was pretty good. We also tried an egg roll - a little heavy and dense but not bad. I recommend the fried Spring Roll as a better alternative. On our second try we did takeout and got the Hot and Sour soup and Szechuan Chicken, both of which were very good. In fact I would say their Hot and Sour Soup is among the best I've had, reminiscent of the style served at the Hong Kong Gardens in Lancaster, very hearty and leaning more towards the hot than the sour. The Szechuan Chicken had a nice brown sauce with a touch of Hoisin to add sweetness and depth. Their fried rice is good, too. All in all, this is a good neighborhood restaurant in a location that will be a challenge for their survival. The building was for many years a popular diner/ice cream stand that attracted little league teams and families with toddlers, a real Americana throwback to the fifties. My son had his first job there, and we were sorry to see it go when it finally went under. The building had not been maintained well by the previous owner, and after a few years of sitting vacant I'm sure it was a Herculean task to get it back in working order. River House has done serious renovation and the place is cleaner and in better shape than I have ever seen it, the decor is plain and neat but the layout perhaps a bit odd - no fault of River House, they had an odd layout to start with and did the best they could with it. We plan to make the River House a regular stop. Our two experiences so far have been good and we look forward to trying more of the menu. The owner told us they plan to revive the ice cream stand in the summer, which will help their bottom line and hopefully bring back the little league teams and families to use the swing sets and picnic tables that have been dormant for too long. read more

Diamond in the rough! Great food in a restaurant desert. Focus is on made to order food. They still need to work on timing, but the quality is very good. We loved the shrimp fried rice; the kung pao delight was only mildly spicy -- but tasty; and the pad thai was very very nice. My daughter and mom loved their huge creamsicle ices for dessert--go SMALL! Matched up with a shaved ice place that would be awesome for a hot day's treat-- great outdoor area with nice picnic tables and umbrellas. I picked up take out for the first time tonight at river house. I was pleasantly surprised at this cute and quaint little restaurant in this area. I placed my order with who i believe to be is an owner of the restaurant. She was very nice and polite and patient. She had many calls and a couple tables while i waited for my food. I am currently enjoying my delicious pad Thai and hot and sour soup :) finally i found a nice and affordable, quality asian cuisine restaurant close to my house! Such an amazing place to eat out. My family and I always go here after church service and the waiters are very polite. You get a very large amount of food for the cheap prices, which makes this place very convenient. It's usually pretty quiet and it's a low stress environment. No one pressuring you to buy the more expensive food, no disrespectful waiters, and I would most certainly say it's one of the best restaurants in PA. read more

Decided to take a ride from Lancaster on a beautiful night and so glad we did! Terrific fresh Asian cuisine (we had pad Thai and some apps). Then shave ice with lychee, mango and passion fruit flavor, so good. The best was the adzuki beans (sweet red beans)on the bottom!! Hadn't had that since we were in Hawaii! Really one of the better asian restaurants that I know of in York County. I'm tickled that it is relatively close (20 minutes) to my house. Pad Thai, Mei Fen, Fried rice, tso's chicken, are ALL several notches above any other asian restaurant in the area. Quick update - we try to get back here at least once every few months because the food is so good. We are particularly fond of the basil chicken, as well as the yellow curry dish (you can get it with chicken, tofu, or other options). We have recommended it to others, and everyone seems to enjoy it. Again, the food is outstanding, and generally the service is fine, but not always the most attentive to refilling beverages, etc... They are very friendly, and the place is clean, and we keep going back because the food is well worth it. read more

I am a frequent Asian food consumer and have tried several venues around the area. After River House opened I went to give it a try. It is now one of my favorites. I go here about once a week and get take-out. My favorites are the Kung Pao Chicken and Singapore Mei Fun. Both are very delicious. River House's Kung Pao Chicken is mainly chicken, which is very nice as most restaurants' Kung Pao is chock full of excessive amounts of celery and peppers. One caveat I have is the Singapore Mei Fun seems to change spiciness from week-to-week. It is meant to be spicy (and is listed on the menu as such) but occasionally it is made very spicy, a little too spicy for my tastes (and I do like spicy foods). However usually it is made perfectly. I haven't tried most of the menu items but the ones I have tried are quite good. The takeout is convenient and usually the food is ready by the time I get there. Parking can be an issue as there are only a couple of spots in the front of the restaurant. On a busy day I've had to park by the road, but that's just a minor inconvenience. Right down the street from River House is a beer distributor and Barry's Market which makes it convenient for takeout and beverages. The owners/operators are courteous and decently friendly. Overall I give it 5 stars since it is my favorite for takeout in the area. The prices are on-par with other Asian restaurants in the area and the food is as good or better. read more

Small out of the way place between Craley and Wrightsville. I usually do not have a reason for going there so I have to make it a special trip. But it is worth going out of my way to eat here. It is a shame they did not pick a good location for this place. There are so many people who will never know this place exists as it is not in a high traffic area. read more

Nice combination of Asian dishes on the menu. We had Thai dishes and both were very flavorful and decent size portions. We had the shaved ice for desert and that was very good too. It was shaved very fine and literally had the texture of fine snow. A little gem that I hope sticks around. read more
