New flavors! Baby Boy and Queso Fundido!
Rosita R.

I've been coming to Sugo Pizza in Costa Mesa since they first opened, and at this point it's honestly become part of my routine. After getting a massage nearby, I almost always stop here because it's one of those places that just consistently hits the spot. My absolute favorites are the Pear Gorgonzola and the Chorizo pizza, both are so flavorful and unique in their own way. The Pear Gorgonzola has that perfect balance of sweet and savory, and the chorizo pizza always has such a good kick of flavor. What I also really appreciate is that they're always introducing new flavors and seasonal combinations, so there's usually something different to try while still keeping the "classics" I love. The atmosphere is chill, the staff has always been friendly, and the pizza is consistently good quality. Definitely one of my favorite pizza spots in Costa Mesa and a place I keep coming back to.

I'd been wanting to try this place for a while, and I finally stopped by to pick up a couple of pizzas. The place is small with just a few seats along the wall. I ordered the Queso Fundido and the Japanese pizza -- both were incredibly unique and packed with flavor. The crust was crispy, light, and perfectly done. The Japanese pizza was surprisingly delicious; the combination of mozzarella, sautéed mushrooms, porchetta, kewpie miso sauce, and bonito flakes worked really well together. Every bite had a great balance of savory and umami flavors. The Queso Fundido was also excellent, topped with mozzarella, Mexican spicy sausage, oven-roasted potatoes, charred poblano peppers, and tomatillo sauce. It was flavorful and well-executed. Overall, both pizzas were creative, memorable, and absolutely worth trying.

The crust is nice and crispy without crossing into burnt territory and it has no flop. It's a solid base for their wide variety of creative toppings. Personally I think the pizza with the red sauce wins: Margherita: You really can't go wrong. The sauce has just the right amount of tanginess, which balances out perfectly with the cheese and fresh basil. Killer Bee: This one was a bit of a struggle. Between the heavy grease from the pepperoni and the hot honey, it gets messy. Also, if you aren't a Gorgonzola fan, this isn't the one for you. Japanese: Unfortunately, it was pretty dry. It's a cool concept, but it desperately needs unagi sauce and a much heavier drizzle of Kewpie mayo to bring it together. Pear: Much like the Japanese pizza, this one came out quite dry. I'd definitely come back, but the red sauce pizzas are the clear winners to me.

Sandro and the staff at Sugo are the sweetest! Earlier this month, I posted a 5 star review of me trying out Sugo for the first time and loving it, but mentioned that it was a bit of a wait on a Friday but the wait was totally understandable due to the dinner rush and it was truly worth the wait! Sandro, the owner, reached out to me in my messages and offered two free slices. We came back to try their limited edition Baby Boy and Yo Mama slices and got an additional Chorizo Al Pastor slice since that was our favorite last time. All of the slices were fresh and delicious! Amazing customer service from the Sugo team!

Finally tried Sugo on their two-year anniversary. Loved the creative flavors of their Roman-style pizza! Slices range from $6.60-$8.50, with specials at $9. They cut each slice in half, which makes it perfect for sharing! We got four slices to share between two people, which was more than enough. My fave was the Japanese slice with porchetta, shiitake mushrooms, bonito flakes and miso kewpie mayo drizzle. The Killer Bee is another winner, with pepperoni, hot honey and Gorgonzola. While I like the Chorizo Al Pastor, it was a little on the spicy side for me (great if you like it hot). The Margherita was a little boring by comparison. Looking forward to seeing what other interesting flavors they develop! Limited seating indoors and outdoors. You can also order online (which is what I did).

My favorite pizza spot! Delicious choices. Amazing vibes. Wonderful staff. Near 405 fwy, Mitsuwa and South Coast Plaza.

Excellent fun pizza squares that captured imaginative flavor combinations with a delicious crispy crust. Food/Drink- 5 stars The pizza was excellent and we enjoyed every bite. I appreciated that they plated it in the order that it was best enjoyed -Japanese- this was good, but probably my least favorite slice. The kewpie mayo overwhelmed the other flavors, but luckily kewpie mayo is always good -Calebrese- this was my favorite slice. So balanced and flavorful -Chorizo Pastor- this was the most fun slice. A bit on the spicier and heavier side -Pera E Gorgonzola- thoroughly enjoyed this as the recommended last (dessert) pizza slice Service- 5 stars Service was fast and helpful. It's out of their control, but their doorway is on top of the sewer line, so a bit of a stink when you walk in. Bottom Line Incredible and fun pizza. I'll definitely be coming back

Easily the best pizza in Orange County. This is more of a take-out than dine-in place, so sweatpants-it-up accordingly when getting your food. For my plant-based peeps, don't despair: there *is* a way to potentially veganize your order. My current obsession here is a fully veganized pie crowned with arugula, wild mushrooms, and roasted garlic -- a composition that feels both refined and indulgent. Sugo consistently executes thoughtful vegan adaptations (simply inquire), and the results justify the request every time. In Orange County, where truly elevated plant-based offerings can be elusive, discovering options that are not merely available but genuinely exceptional feels like a rare and welcome luxury.

Heard about this place on Instagram and Sugo did not disappoint. Delicious Roman-style pizza slices! They have a ton of choices in their display case. When you choose them and order, they cook them fully and they come up piping hot! The crust is nice and airy and chewy and crispy on the edges. If you haven't had Roman style (think pinsa style crust) then it's worth trying out here. The slices are big and cut in half, with hearty toppings. I ordered two slices and it was perfect to share with my partner. This place seems always busy but they tie around the orders fast. There are a few small tables inside, appropriate for a quick bite. Appreciate that they're open late, and there is parking right in front. Really convenient.

There is just something really special about Sugo. Yes, their pizzas are probably the best pizzas I've ever tasted. Yes, they have unique flavors and are cooked to perfection. Yes, their entire staff is so welcoming, and Michelin Chef Sandro Nardone is the most welcoming of all. Just those reasons alone are what helps makes this place such a gem. Hubbie and I came last night for early dinner. We came around 5, and luckily beat the long line. We ordered their carnivore, killer bee, Rosa slice, and Pera e Gorgonzola slice. Each so unique in their flavors, and each cooked so perfectly. The crust makes their pizza exceptionally delicious, and the ingredients all mix to form the perfect pizza. My favorite (though all SO good) would have to be Killer Bee. We also got to meet Chef Sandro! He was so kind, friendly and welcoming. I was pleasantly surprised that he took his time to chat with us, and we even got to take a picture (thank you Chef Sandro!) At the end, they gave us a little gift. A keychain holder so we can save money for Sugo. It's always those little things that make such a huge difference. I will definitely be coming back frequently in the future. Thank you entire staff of Sugo!

The pizza here is definitely on the pricey side, but it's also unique and so delicious. I have a small stomach, and two slices are more than enough for a full meal... honestly a little too filling, but it's so good you'll want to finish it anyway. Ordering online for pickup is easy, and the pizza slices are always warm and toasty. I've tried a few different slices, and my favorite by far is the Rosa (vodka sauce, purple onions, fresh basil, parmigiano). I've always been someone who loves lots of toppings on pizza, so it actually surprised me how much I love such a simple slice. That just speaks to how good the ingredients are (nothing extra is needed to mask the high quality ingredients of the dough and sauce). I realize the Rosa is a limited time slice (nooo!!) but I'm hoping they keep it around. The crust is unlike any pizza crust I've had before. It's not too thin, but it's chewy and flaky at the same time. I'm usually not a crust person and tend to not finish it, but this crust is so good I'll eat it even without sauce. Overall, it's definitely a splurge, but I'll happily come back once in a while when I'm in the mood for an expensive treat.

Margherita Slice (left) and Santa Baby - Limited time (right)

I've been wanting to try this place for a bit now and fortunately, had the opportunity to try it! On a Tuesday around 2, it had a steady line. They only have certain ones available and I'm assuming you'd have to wait if the one you want is currently out. For example, we wanted to try the Rosa but it was currently out. You order your slices and then they warm it for you which took around 10 minutes. My sister and I ordered 2 different slices to share; the worker was kind and he split the slices for us too. We got one margherita slice and one Santa baby slice. The dough was crispy but not tough. We loved that it came out fresh and hot too. The tomato sauce was great, well balanced in its sweet, tangy and savory flavors. The mozzarella was mild and not too much. We just wished they put more basil. It was a great classic overall. The Santa baby is a limited time flavor but we liked it so much and wish they'd keep it on the menu! It was topped with a pistachio pesto, mushrooms and truffle oil. The truffle oil wasn't over the top, they put a good amount of mushrooms, and the pesto was pretty good (just a little too lemon-y). All of its flavors worked together so well! Slices are all at least $8 which is a little pricey. But if I happen to be craving pizza in the area, I'd be down to check it out again and maybe try something new!

Traditional margarita pizza and pepperoni and sausage. I know! Not too adventurous but dang! It was fabulous!!!!

I've eaten a lot of pizza in my day but THIS pizza is so far above the rest! Outstanding!!! Sauce; not too spicy, not too thick, not imitation pizza sauce but real homemade! Just enough cheese. Just enough toppings. And the crust! Perfection! I saw an ad for Sugo on social media and finally decided to drive down from Orange to sample. Soooooo worth the gas!!!! Highly recommend you try it; I'll be back!

Yes there is seating indoors but it's more spacious outside, especially when it's busy since most people wait indoors

I'm not sure if they (still?) offer panini at Sugo, but they have panini at Bello!

This Place Is Awesome!!…read more I am not sure where to start on what I liked about this place.. This place was recommended by friends from Chicago.. From the moment we walked in the door we were greated by a friendly employee and he made us feel like we were gonna be taken care of.. The place looks like a pizza shop and has a total pizza vibe inside.. The place was clean and the seating was comfortable.. Ok... On to the food... We started with the bacon artichoke dip.. That was sooooooo good and just the right amount of cheese... Yum Yum... We also ordered a medium thin crust pepperoni pizza (to eat there) and we ordered a medium stuffed deep dish with mushrooms, pepperoni, and sausage to bring home for a dinner in a few days.. The thin crust pepperoni was so good.. I am a pizza snob and this was pretty damn good that I struggled to remember when the last time I had pizza this good..I am being honest too.. The deep dish we did a half bake so it cooks easier in our oven at home.. Smelled good in the car for the 90 minute drive home.. Shout out to Chris.. You could tell he cared about the products.. He asks if you have been there before and then helps you decide the right pizza to make your visit the best.. I liked that.. We had a couple of beers to wait for the pizza.. Thank You Chris M.. for a great visit!! Just remember good food is always worth the wait.. Everything is scratch made and it shows in the product when you are eating.. This place also doesn't break the bank either.. Last thing... The Restrooms are clean.. That matters as it reflects on the rest of the restaurant.. THANK YOU RANCE'S !! You Truly Earned My Future Visits..

My team and I came on a Thursday for lunch and before we came we called to preorder the pizzas so they would be ready when we arrived instead of having to wait 45 minutes. This definitely was the best way to go for a work lunch outing. This Rance's is tucked away in a big plaza and doesn't seem to get too much foot traffic during the week. Plenty of parking. We got: Caesar salad (great), the carnivore (great) and the best seller/veggie pizza (also great). We definitely each brought a slice or two home and needed a nap post lunch! Our server/manager was amazing, we really felt welcomed and right at home - especially my two team mates who are from Chicago. They definitely are new repeat patrons of Rance's! Highly recommend for some deep dish pizza.

I am drawn to Ospi's Michelin twists where bold flavors are made possible with the least amount of ingredients. Every bite counts. The kale salad to start was the best decision. The finely chopped kale leaves paired beautifully with the well-thought-out dressing and cheese. The crispy provolone was crunchy and had a balanced taste of cheesiness. The copione pizza was paper-thin yet contained a robust flavor profile which I did not expect. The highlight of the already amazing meal was the mandilla pesto pasta. The electric green color of the almond-pine nut pesto sauce was extremely powerful, and it was the best-tasting pesto pasta I've ever had. The Italian meal felt complete, but I didn't feel overwhelmed with the amount of carbs. I love the friendly staff and patio seating!

Massimos Pizza and Pasta - Cheese pizza slice

Massimos Pizza and Pasta

Massimo Pizza - Costa Mesa Rating: (5/5)…read more Sometimes you want an artisan, wood-fired, ultra-balanced pizza. And sometimes... you just want a massive, unapologetic, cheesy beast of a pie. Massimo nails that second category so perfectly that it feels almost therapeutic. We ordered an XL pepperoni + sausage with extra cheese, and the thing that stood out immediately is that Massimo actually understands what extra cheese is supposed to mean. Most chains toss on maybe 25-50% more, and it barely changes anything. Here, they layer it so thick that the slices almost fuse together into one glorious sheet of bubbling mozzarella. You lift a slice and it stretches -- heavy, gooey, satisfying -- exactly the way you hope it will. Flavor-wise, it hits all the buttons. The pepperoni brings salt and crisp edges, the sausage has that savory punch, and yes -- it's a grease bomb in the best possible way. If greasy pizza isn't your thing, this might not be the spot. But if you embrace a good greasy pizza, whether you're recovering from a long night or just craving comfort food, this place delivers. What really surprised me was how well the sauce balances everything. It has enough acidity to cut through all that cheese, meat, and oil, keeping each bite from feeling heavy. Instead of being overwhelmed, you just want another slice. And another. I also grabbed a side of alfredo sauce for crust dipping, and it was fantastic -- creamy, rich, and basically turned the leftover crust into its own bonus meal. This isn't a dainty pizza. It isn't pretending to be health food. It's bold, salty, cheesy, greasy, and absolutely delicious -- exactly the kind of pie you daydream about when someone says, "Let's just order pizza tonight." Final verdict: Massimo doesn't just do "extra cheese" -- they commit to it. Big flavors, heavy slices, great sauce balance, and total satisfaction. For this style of pizza, it hits the spot every single time. 5/5 -- an easy must-order. If you want clean, delicate pizza... look elsewhere. If you want pizza that tastes like pure comfort -- this is your place.
