Pitfire Pizza in Westwood was one of my regular spots when I lives in LA. Glad that I can still get my fix in OC at their Costa Mesa location! We came for late lunch on a Friday and it was pretty quiet. Ordered a couple of pizzas and beer and settled down in a booth. When we ordered pizza in Westwood, there was a 50/50 chance that the pizzas would be burnt. Luckily both our pizzas were cooked perfectly and the crusts were perfect. Toppings on the Honey Bear were a bit more sparse than I remember but the OG Heirloom Tomato was bursting with tomatoes at their peak. This is prob the 2ed negative yelp review I've ever left. I called the restaurant to place an order this evening, and it rang and rang, and tried to redirect me to their website for 15 MINUTES before just hanging up on me. (I couldn't order online, because my bank card had fraudulent activity, I was waiting for a new one in the mail, and had to pay cash). So I had to drive to the restaurant to place an order in person. And then sit there and wait for 30 minutes. I asked the girl at the front what was up with their phones, and she stammered through some weird answers (saying they worked in the back but not the front?) before lying to me and saying "our system is down." Also, adding a 3% "happy and healthy" charge (that is NOT gratuity!) to "support our ability to provide sustainable income" automatically added to every bill is SO CHEAP and cringy- PAY YOUR OWN EMPLOYEES. Build into the cost of your food. This place has gone downhill. Food was decent. That's the only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of one. read more

Came to Pitfire right near closing and still had such a great experience. The staff was super friendly and never made us feel rushed. There was a small mix-up with our salad, but they immediately fixed it and even let us keep the original while making the correct one to go. Cade and Wendy were especially kind and accommodating. I ordered thru Uber Eats. The pizza was nicely sliced but the box seemed a bit too big for the pizza. The slices had shifted apart upon receipt. I got the IYKYK PIZZA which is labeled as having bolognese, mozzarella, ricotta, and chili flakes. The pizza- Bolognese ratio was a bit of a letdown: Bolognese was fairly thinly spread with some slices barely having any; the slices had more basil leaves. Other than that the pizza was not bad. The dough was thin, chewy and tasted a bit like lasagne. The roasted cauliflower had a hint of mint it it which is an unusual combination. The chocolate chip cookie was a decent chunky size but very soft, almost like raw cookie dough. It didn't seem like it had been baked long enough. I stuck it in the oven for another 5 min or so it and it turned out a little better. The menu offers some interesting pizza options, although it seems to be a little on the pricy end. I would say this is more of a 3.5 for me now. I have been to both this and the Orange location a couple of times over the past few years. They have great pizzas and topping combinations. I love the honey bear one. I tried the Brussel sprouts for the first time and it was good. However, I was a bit disappointed in the amount of toppings. It seems to have reduced significantly from what I remember. One of the pizzas hardly could get 1-2 slices of pepperoni each. Same with the sausage. I know these are artisan pizzas and overloading toppings isn't the point. But I do expect a bit more for the price point. I still think they have great pizzas but the lack of toppings for price, and waiting close to an hour when calling in has me looking elsewhere unfortunately. read more

In an area that has plenty of pizza spots this one was a pretty solid choice. I met up with some friends on a Monday for some lunch. Between the three of us we shared two pizzas and a salad. The pizzas were a good size and definitely shareable. I liked that they were thinner crust and they gave us some complementary pesto and ranch dressing to dip. For our pizzas we went with their popular Honey Bear pizza and the sausage pizza. The Honey Bear one was definitely on the sweeter side and had ricotta which I enjoyed. I recommend it if you like it sweet. The sausage one was my more preferred one. It didn't have a whole bunch of meat but it was good. Both didn't taste that heavy. For the salad we got the Little Gem Cesar salad which was full of flavor. It was enjoyable. You order and pay first at bar and they bring the food to you. They didn't really check on us while we were there. The inside of the restaurant is large and casual. There is plenty of seating and great for small or larger parties. No outside seating. Staff were nice, they played the world cup, spacious, good parking, and attentive on the water. Although seats were super dusty, bathroom was a bit dirty, and pizza was a bit pricey. Went in 30/40 minutes before they close and she asked if we were picking up a carry out order, we said no, and then she literally SIGHED as she took our order. We proceeded to sit outside since the AC was on inside, making it feel cooler. The same lady came to drop waters to our table, she walked away while mumbling that "there isn't any settings out here because i was cleaning up already." okay? how is it my fault or anyone else's fault that you decided to start closing a very much open restaurant early. she then proceeded to bring out plates for us but was slamming them down, she slammed our food down, never fully stopped at our table to give us any sort of service... lady if you don't wanna provide customer service, don't work in customer service. will 100% not be going back, hope that makes you happy! read more

A few friends and I ordered 3 of their pizzas (Honey Bear, Field Mushroom, Margherita). The pie is cut into 6 decently sized slices. This was a delivery ordered which came at the estimated time so I can't speak much to the service or ambiance. The crust was thin crust and had a slightly doughyness on the crust. I'd rank the Field Mushroom as my first winner , then the Honey Bear (wish it had more meat), and Margherita (wasn't something I'd order again). Catered this to a party! The downside was the wait time on doordash compared to the time we actually waited. We did the Family Meal: Roasted Chicken & Mushroom Cautappi Pasta, Sausage Party & Pesto Chicken Unfolded Pizzas, and Little Gem Caesar Salad. We also got the Boneless Buffalo Wings (Large) and a Classic Chopped Salad. To be honest, our judgement of the pizza is different from what we think of the wings due to the pizza being cold by the time we got it! All the flavor was there for the wings, but the coldness of the pizzas made it taste even more bland. The salads were great on the side to wash down with such a savory meal. If you get a chance to get the brews at the bar, definitely do it for a great, yummy buzz. We waited an hour for our pick up order. Halfway through, the gentlemen in the front let us know the Spicy Rigatoni Alla Vodka Pasta was actually out so we chose our second option, the Cautappi. I wish they would've let us know sooner because it makes it seem like that was what was setting them back from our order. I had tried the LA location before, which made me confident coming into this visit, and this location did not disappoint. I ordered the gluten-free sausage and ricotta along with the gluten-free mushroom pizza, and both were excellent. The mushroom once again stood out with deep flavor and great balance. The gluten-free crust was crispy and held up really well, which is not always easy to find. It did not feel like a compromise at all, just a well executed pizza. If I was a drug addict and Pitfire was my drug of choice, I'd never quit. This is my favorite pizza spot in OC. I bring all my friends here and I go 1-2 times a month. The employees are all so kind, the food is amazing, and the drinks are perfect. They really dedicate themselves to giving you the best service possible. For instance, I ordered a Honey Berr pizza and they brought me TWO pizzas because the first one (according to them) was "too small" so they made me a second one! My online order said it would be ready in 25 minutes. I arrived 30 minutes after to pickup then waited an additional 40 minutes in the lobby for one pizza and some garlic knots (70+ minutes total). Honestly a simple "sorry for the wait!" would have gone a long way but I didn't even get that. We love PitFire, but tbh I didn't even want to eat after the experience of being forgotten, having to politely, repeatedly ask about my order, and watching all other customers come and go. Great experience all around! Service was friendly, quick, and helpful for our first time. We tried the Honey Bear and the potato pizza (added chicken). Both pizza's were Delicious! I loved the honey drizzle on the honey bear which paired perfectly with the sausage and spice! If you're on a budget, you could get by with one pizza and a side or appetizer for two. We also tried the beets, Caesar salad and wings. They were all great but the salad was a stand out! A proper Caesar with the right amount of anchovy flavor balanced with the parm perfectly! Disappointed. Ordered the Honey Bear, kid cheese pizza and boneless ginger chicken. Pizza hit the spot. Flavors, temperature, timing, good as always. Asked for some ranch and ended up paying an additional $2.00+ for a thimble of dill flavored sauce. Then came the chicken. It was listed and recommended by the cashier that it's one of her favorite appetizers. So naturally I got it. Although its listed as an appetizers, we got it last. Temperature and texture was hot and crispy. Chicken was drenched in a thick rendered down soy sauce. No ginger flavor, dark in color and extremely salty. Tried a bite by itself, dipped it in the sauce that was given, place it in-between the pizza crust but every variation to eat that piece of chicken was horrible. I tried to get the attention of the servers to make them aware but it appeared that they were avoiding our table. They visited all the tables around us but not once were we approached to ask how we were doing. It was clearly visible that there was something wrong with the chicken as I placed the full plate on the pizza rack at the edge of the table. I left without causing a scene as I did not want to ruin the other patrons dining experience. Needless to say, I will not be return to spend $53+ for a poor experience. read more

Pitfire Artisan Pizza has a private parking lot but it was pretty packed. I got lucky and found parking. I came here for a friend's private birthday party. It was so private I couldn't find my friends until they led me to the back room. I'm grateful there was a private room cause the front of house was packed with little kids celebrating their sports victory and they were spread everywhere blocking folks from walking through the restaurant. In the back we had a large group and there was only 1 staff member helping us. Though I had a hard time getting ahold of them and didn't see much of them. My friend ordered one of each pizza to start and then more of the popular ones a few times. These pizzas were really affordable for artisan pizzas ranging between $10-12.50/pizza. My only issue with the pizzas were such thin crust that it got quickly soggy and there wasn't much of the protein at all. It made it difficult to pick up and eat so I had to knife and fork it. My favorite of all the pizzas I tried was their Honey Bear pizza. It had sausage, ricotta, honey, calabrian chile, and bee pollen. It had a nice sweet and savory bite to it. Of the one staff person I encountered there was room for improvement. They must have made good money off the party we had, and really could have made more on drink orders if they were around more. Their loss. And there were a few of us who asked for ranch, and they bring back a small portion that was more like for one person, and they left it at the counter for us to share it. What the heck. Had I known I would have went to Ralphs and gotten my own bottle of ranch. And also taking so long, the majority of my meal was ranchless, and by the time it got there I had to share and didn't get as much as I would have wanted. I can see how this is a great spot to host events, but service has room for improvement. I don't think the pizza is good enough on its' own to bring me back here unless there was so occasion to come back for. read more

We love Pitfire for so many reasons - the food is solid and it is a great mid-level family restaurant. However, they need to work on the timing of bringing out the food. Tonight we went and ordered cheesy knots as an appetizer, 1 salad, 2 pastas and 2 salads. The two pastas came out first followed by the salad. 20 minutes later, the cheesy knots were delivered (our appetizer!) and 10 minutes later the pizzas arrived. By the time the pizzas arrived, our pasta dishes were cold. I wish they would bring out appetizers and salads first, and then bring our pastas when the pizzas are ready. We understand that cooking pizza takes time, but it wouldn't take much to adjust the timing of the food! read more

I found Pitfire by accident as I was driving down 17th St. looked them up on Yelp and everything looked good . Some good reviews. I ordered a pizza to take home a fennel sausage and mushrooms. Unfortunately was not great hardly any sausage. I think Dominoes would have been better . I will like to give them another try and fine in house. read more

First time trying this place. Prder st thr counter, and a server will bring it to your table. Hubby tried the lime frozen margarita, good, a bot strong and tasty! We shared a Caesar salad, fresh, crisp, and just enough dressing to fill us both up. We also ordered a bbq chicken, purple onions, and cilantro pizza with bbq sauce, not marinara. Good size to share and even brought some 3 large slices. Customer service was wonderful and very attentive. It is a fairly large place with plenty of seating, cushioned benches, and hard wood chairs. It took a a good while to get to our table, and when it came it was cold. It was also very salty. I think it could have been good but the vibes were terrible. That's a terrible and funny name for the pizza. She said I needed to get that and also the spicy honey sauce and ranch dressing and dip the pizza into both. I went with it and it was rediculously good. The honey sauce is spicy but a great sweet flavor also, and the ranch weirdly went perfectly. The pizza was amazing, a ton of well seasoned sausage and a sauce that was just perfect. I can't wait to go again. It also feels like going to a restaurant.
