A cute little family owned winery we stopped by on our way to see the Ennis bluebonnets. The "wine tasting room" is very cute and there are also little goodies for sale, like candles and gummy wine infused dinos (!!!). There's also a good selection of cheesecakes which sounded interesting but we didn't try them. Staff was very friendly in giving recommendations and describing each wine. Tried a few recommended wines (each person can sample 2 for free) and they were just okay for me. Lots of fruity wines and some seasonal flavors like gingerbread which was interesting. I liked the lime with coconut the most, but didn't love any enough to buy a glass or bottle. We ended up getting the cheese board, which was $18 and came with crackers and a good selection of cheeses, meats, nuts and mustard dip. Adding some grapes would've been amazing! read more

Stumbled across this place while we were out looking at the bluebonnets and it was a great little find. First let me say that April is their peak time (because it's blue bonnet season and folks are out and about) so they charge a fee to park. We arrived near closing time yet they were kind enough to welcome us in and allow us to look around. We also decided to grab a glass of wine while we walked around looking. I will honestly say that I am NOT a wine snob, I couldn't tell ya a good glass from a bad glass but I don't like dry and I don't usually like reds. With that said I was given some suggestions and for what it's worth, I'd drink it again. We were offered to purchase some cheesecake but without seeing what I was getting and told $11, I passed on it. I will say that the souvenir "glass" that I paid for was disappointing, come to find out it's a plastic cup, however I was told it "floats in the pool" but I'll never know because I don't own a pool to sip and float in. So most the folks out in the yard were wine tasting and seemed to be enjoying what they had. I had one couple who actually went down the list letting me know what their favorites were and why (I took notes). This is a cute little spot off the beaten path. I must say that I'm thankful for a restroom but I'm never a fan of portable potty's and unfortunately this was the only option at the time. If I'm out this way again, I'll make a stop and try a wine flight to see if the other wines live up to the hype. read more

It was the most gorgeous day to visit this sweet winery. We had an incredible time. Lunch, lounge, sip and sit- fabulous. The wines were really crisp and delicious. We did the wine tasting- 6 tastes for $10. What a steal! You get a free wine glass too. Our favie was the PAPA PEACH. We went back for seconds. Lunch was simple but hit the spot. We recently visited Sugar Ridge Winery again and they have added a full kitchen and lots of food options for you. My husband and I tried the bruschetta (Delicious), Reuben Sandwich, served with chips and a pickle (Delicious) and flat bread with sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, bell pepper, jalepenos (Super Delicious). The flatbread was loaded with what seemed like fresh ingredients and the pizza crust was nice and crunchy. Enjoyed the atmosphere like always and Grandpa's Porch sweet red wine. Very friendly staff and amazing surrounding area which is gorgeous with greenery and some rolling hills on the drive in. Their fruity wines are sweet and refreshing for the summer and the prices are extremely affordable. When we went it was $25 for 10 tastings and $18 for a charcuterie box with more than enough snackings for 2 people, but could be split up to 4. Will definitely return, this place is a gem and only about 30 minutes from central Dallas. read more

Then each time you want/need a tasting you have to get in line... a long line!!!! And you MUST have 10 different wines! It was a busy day so we would have been there a very long time! We really enjoyed this cute little gem, on the outskirts of Dallas. I wouldn't say the wine is top tier (if you are a wine snob, you know who you are, and that's ok!) But if you are looking to try a bunch of new wines and are really there to enjoy the atmosphere and the company, you will really enjoy it. This place is great for everyone. We came here on a Saturday during bluebonnet season. The winery is totally kid friendly and even has a playground. They let you bring in your own food too, so it is great in that way. It was crowded when we were there and I waited about 10 minutes to get us wine. They had tastings for $10, which included all 14 of their wines. I opted for a bottle instead and it was great! Even though it was crowded, we found a table with ease and there was live music as well. The kids were able to run around and play with other kids. Most importantly, there were nice and new bathrooms (not portables) and we spent the entire afternoon there. read more

Wife and I visited Saturday, March 13th around 2:30 pm. Lots of outdoor seating which was good as there were two groups who had reserved sections of the seating. Dry reds weren't good, but we bought two bottles of Pear - a white. And the sweet reds were good too. They also serve the owners personally brewed beers. Found out to late to try. I'll go back to try those. The 3 Cheese Dip was great. It came with Ritz crackers and chips. Very good. The facilities are clean and well taken care of. Bikers: drive way is rock and on a hill but manageable. They just built a concrete motorcycle pad directly in front of the winery. 3 stars because we weren't real impressed by the wine. This was my first time here and first time doing the wine tasting. I enjoyed the experience, food and wine! Amber and Miranda were sooo nice. You are giving a paper of the wines they have and they have pricing and the description. Wine tasting is $25 for 10 different wines of your choice and comes with souvenir wine glass. I really enjoyed that Miranda was explaining the back stories of the wines and her recommendations on how to pair the wine with. That girl knew what she was talking about! The bruschetta was delicious and I cannot forget the cheese and meat plate was delicious!!! Loved the hot pepper jelly!!! I had their cannoli's which were good and too sweet that cut my alcohol but not complaining. The inside was warm and cozy, and the patio was a pretty good size. A lot of space to choose for seating. They have a fireplace outside and inside as well. Bathrooms were located outside. I took some bottles home with me for gift and myself. Overall a good place to go for a good time. I always wanted to stop here when driving the bluebonnet trail. This year we finally did. Nice place, nice staff on the inside, decent wine. However when we sat outside to have a picnic lunch, after spending over $100, the owners 12 year old son (i assume owner's son because he came out of the house on property) came out to dress down two adults about what the rules were on picnicking on property. We were not aware of the rule about bringing your own food onto the wineries property and should have never been informed by a child. This would have been best handled by an adult and especially and adult who knows a little bit more about customers service. We won't be coming back, just a bad experience. read more

I called to make a restaurant reservation for a party of 8 like the website said but no one answered. When we arrived we ordered a wine tasting of 15 wines. We had to cut our tastings short since they ran out of the wines on their menu. I asked about the wine tour and the owner said ask her later if she has time. Meanwhile there was family staff sitting and drinking. They say their winery is kid friendly but there's nothing to entertain the kids with. It was smaller than expected. The owner seemed overwhelmed with our large party and understaffed to provide good service. We had to go inside for every refill of a different wine tasting. It was neat, clean and cute. The wine was good. I don't think I'll be making the drive from the city there again. Perhaps in a few years if they expand. read more

We were staying just down the street for a weekend vacation over memorial day. It was gorgeous day with great live music. My husband and I shared 6 tastes and then each had a glass of wine. A lot are sweet as expected, but a couple of the reds worked for me. The kids got to each pick their own toppings for flatbread and finished with cookie bruschetta. Simple but very good. This place is awesome. It's a bit off the beaten path, but worth a drive. Ok so the drive here was a little bit scary on a cloudy day as Google maps took us down a street with a lot of obscured views/ turns and a street wide enough for one car despite being two way. Dang, google maps.... The winery is tucked down a driveway with a petite parking area. The winery has a cute tasting bar, and a nice patio. Now the wines are sweeter, but delicious. We opted for the $5 tasting. Our host knew a lot about the wines, tasting notes and informed us most of the wines hovered at the sweet end of the spectrum. She was kind and personable. They offer both reds and whites. We were told interesting things about all the wines, and I loved that there were family photos, and drawings from friends/ family. We walked away with a Tempranillo and Lemon wine. Delicious wines. Definitely sweet. Most bottles were around $14-$15. Local winery with great service and charm? I'll be back. read more

The 2 I liked tasted much like Arbor Mist. We were shorted 3 tastings but at that point we were so ready to go. We tasted about or 13 wines and good sized pours and didn't get tipsy at all. This winery was more of a juice bar. All the wines were too sweet with odd flavors. Oddly enough they do sell juice which makes me think maybe they were pouring the juice for the tasting. The wines are mostly sweet although I suspect this is done to fit the local palate. I actually liked most of the wines, especially the cider wine which was served warm. They grow a few grapes here but this is not where the wine comes from, it's just for atmosphere I would imagine. My step-parents brought me here and I was skeptical but it was enjoyable. I like to use wine as a mixer for a cocktail and for that purpose these wines are a good fit. The place itself is small but quaint and attractive, the staff was very friendly and helpful. What is not to love about this place? If you go during Blue Bonnet season, it is along that trail and everyone here in the DFW area KNOWS that you can't lose. Imagine: a beautiful drive with blue bonnets in full bloom, winding roads, a leisurely 40 mph (until some punk in an F250 starts riding your butt then you pull over and pretend you are lost so he doesn't think you're a grandma behind a wheel...), and then you come across this place....tucked behind their private home, with ducks on their little lake, a play set for the children, outdoor seating....it is a sweet, sweet life with their sweet, sweet wine. Yes, the wine is sweet. Akin to that of Italian wine made from young grapes. Each one with a different flavor profile and certainly ones that you wouldn't be used to from your local Walmart. We went and had their wine tasting deal where their sommeliers explained a little bit about each wine they served. They gave us a little snack with it also to help cleanse our palette, and the little shop was cozy and quaint. Wines ranges from sweet to very sweet. If you fancy dryer wines with oaky earthy flavoring then this place isn't for you. But if you every once in a while like to go a little sweet then I recommend the Ordnung wine. It's made with Concord grapes and comes across as an alcoholic Welches. It's pretty good and is my favorite wine Sugar Ridge has. I could use is as my house wine that I'd keep in supply. Owners are very nice good people. Their places in Sanger and Ennis are all kid friendly. Down to earth people. The tasting was only $5 which was a steal cause it got to try all their wines. If you go for nothing else than the experience then you won't be disappointed if you go expecting unsweet wines you will be disappointed. If you go with an open mind and like trying new things and aren't a wine snob.... I'm sure you'll fit right in and enjoy yourself. read more
