We also appreciated the gift basket Sheena sent us home with and she has continued to be encouraging and a helpful resource for us since adopting Nala. It is also special that Sheena documents each litter with video and beautiful photos on social media so we can look back to see Nala as a baby with her parents and siblings before we got her. I learned about this shelter during our recent online search for a kitten, we were approved to…read moreadopt and made an appointment right away. I was concerned after reading the reviews, but our experience was very different as much has changed for the better. Priscilla informed us the day of the appointment that there were some health issues with the kitten we wanted. She explained the issues in detail on our arrival and what the timeline would be for adoption after the kitten got the vet care it needed. The facility was clean, roomy, and bright. Cats are kept in separate cages (other than kittens from the same litter) and the cages were immaculate with beds, hammocks, litter, fresh water, plenty of food, and toys. We were asked to follow sanitizing protocols between handling any cat. There was a room log for health/behavior notes as well as cage logs, the latter noting daily biological functions (yup, they track it all!). We read in the logs that the health issues for the kitten we wanted had developed the morning of our appointment and she had already been treated by a vet before our evening visit. After a lot of thought about the timeline for the kitten, we returned two days later to instead adopt a perfect 1 year old cat that caught our attention during our first appointment and stole our hearts. Priscilla opened up 30 minutes early so we could get in that day and not risk losing her to another adopter. Our adoption included a care package of new cat guidelines, food, toys and a hand crocheted blanket that smelled like the shelter to help our cat adjust to her new location. We received an email of her vaccine records that day so I could make her follow up vaccine appointment on time and got the hard copies in the mail 3 days later. I would return here to adopt our next cat, hopefully many years from now. I would also recommend this shelter to anyone adopting a kitten or cat.

Then I questioned am I not allowed to return and she said I don't know you'll have to call the office. I just don't get a very friendly feeling when I'm there. You are not allowed to walk between the rooms and look at the cats and they really spend a good amount of time with them. One lady that is really nice. I can't remember her name, but she sort of really tall and has short, brown hair. Not a place that makes you feel welcome. That is very sad because it might affect the cats being adopted, there were a few that I was interested in there, but I probably won't return and I will look elsewhere because of the unwelcoming feeling and the unfriendliness of the lady with the short gray hair. She is not that nice. I don't know why she is in that business.

Now it's fifty-plus years later and after two Boxers brought into our lives via my wife it was my turn to pick out a dog. So now I (we) have a three-month-old Anatolian Shepard. Along with all the things that go along with having a new puppy I had to go vet shopping. I wanted to make sure I found a vet for the long haul and I was very unhappy with the practice we had used for our boxers. I also was turned off by the national chains like Banfield through places like PetSmart. The thousands of negative reviews on the BBB website are enough to give you shivers. It turns out finding a vet with room in their practice is no easy task. In the end, I settled on a small practice in Gardner Ma called Tender Heart Vet Care PC. My decision to bring Toby to Tender Heart was based on their reviews and the initial conversations I had with the office staff. They were very friendly, professional, and seemed genuinely excited to add an Anatolian Shepard to their list of patients. With all the challenges posed by COVID-19, I was unable to go into the office with my dog for his first appointment. The staff handled the odd situation very well and Toby seemed none worse for the wear. Like every vet, I received a list of all the recommendations and accompanying pricing. First visit, new puppy, I agreed to everything and this is where this review gets down to brass tacks. After I brought Toby and my invoice home, I checked into every vaccine and treatment. I am a researcher at heart and based on my research questioned one of the treatments and asked about the future vaccine schedule. This was all in a rather lengthy email. I received an email in return; very complete, very informative, and very prompt. That is what cemented my decision to stay with this practice. They are, to my experience; open, honest, and informative, a rare combination in veterinary practices. I am comfortable recommending this practice and will no doubt be leaving follow up reviews as Toby and I use them in the future.

They had to call our vet after we spoke to sort it out. At the same time I found the records and it took me all of 30 seconds to google the vaccination series listed on page 1 to find what they needed. I'm not sure why they ask for records if they can't read them (or at least be able to look up themselves), and why they would wait until the last minute to do this. Although we signed up for a specific class, it was treated as part of a series, i.e. we care more about you paying for more and more classes rather than the one you actually bought. Instructor expected us to undo months of training and for our puppy to re-learn things according to their program. Not about to confuse her just to accommodate this one trainer.

I contacted 3 other in home service providers only after waiting 36 + hours for at the very least an acknowledgment , all of which got back to me within hours of me contacting them. This goes a long way in this type of practice. While I understand an immediate response isn't always feasible, i Am still sitting here, my animal now over the rainbow bridge with no call back.

I called twice the next day (noon & 2:30) asking for the results because she had blood in her urine. They were waiting for the doctor to read them. They called me back just before 3pm and said 'I needed to make an appointment for my dog to be seen' when I asked for the results, they said they couldn't tell me unless I brought her in' I reminded them that I paid for those results and have the right to know. I was put on hold. When she came back on, I was told 'they are less than desirable so she needed to be seen' again I asked what was wrong with her. Of course I'd make an appointment for medication but tell me what the results are. They wouldn't unless I paid for a visit. But I already paid for the RESULTS. The visit would be for the medication. They were putting this on the owner, BJ's desk for him to decide. I waited an hour for him to call. Finally I called another vet, explained my situation and asked their opinion. She also explained that the law doesn't allow them to prescribe medication unless they have eyes on the animal. I completely understand that and agree BUT tell what is wrong. I was very upset and she said I could bring my dog to her and she'd try and call for the results. I was still waiting to hear from the BJ, owner. I took my dog to the other veterinarian and she had to call THREE times asking for the results, each time they said they were sending them over. Someone finally read them over the phone and my dog got the medication she needed. It's been two days and still no word from BJ the owner.
