I have a very aggressive dog they gave me some medication to drug her up before I got there and then I was three appointments booked in on the same appointment time and I was the last one they're very uncommodating ​. I dropped off my dog's urine sample & paid the $80 with the understanding that they would tell me the results but wouldn't prescribe any medication (if needed) unless they 'saw' her. I called twice the next day (noon & 2:30) asking for the results because she had blood in her urine. They were waiting for the doctor to read them. They called me back just before 3pm and said 'I needed to make an appointment for my dog to be seen' when I asked for the results, they said they couldn't tell me unless I brought her in' I reminded them that I paid for those results and have the right to know. I was put on hold. When she came back on, I was told 'they are less than desirable so she needed to be seen' again I asked what was wrong with her. Of course I'd make an appointment for medication but tell me what the results are. They wouldn't unless I paid for a visit. But I already paid for the RESULTS. The visit would be for the medication. They were putting this on the owner, BJ's desk for him to decide. I waited an hour for him to call. Finally I called another vet, explained my situation and asked their opinion. She also explained that the law doesn't allow them to prescribe medication unless they have eyes on the animal. I completely understand that and agree BUT tell what is wrong. I was very upset and she said I could bring my dog to her and she'd try and call for the results. I was still waiting to hear from the BJ, owner. I took my dog to the other veterinarian and she had to call THREE times asking for the results, each time they said they were sending them over. Someone finally read them over the phone and my dog got the medication she needed. It's been two days and still no word from BJ the owner. read more

Ive been taking my dog here for the last 8 years or so and they have always been fantastic. More recently, he needed an emergency surgery and I called them with an expensive quote from an emergency clinic and they got My dog in immediately, gave him supportive care, and within 2 hours he was on the table getting operated on. Dr. O'Neil did a fantastic job with a difficult surgery. She called me right away and spoke to me about how he was doing. They saved me thousands of dollars (close to 4000) and he received superior care. They didn't have anyone to stay overnight that night so we transferred our guy to westford animal hospital who also did an amazing job with him. He has since had esophagitis from all the trauma and surgery which they diagnosed promptly and gave us meds to care for him. (Dr. O'Neils daughter did this visit and was also just as fabulous). I've seen all the other doctors at this facility at one time or another and all are very good. I highly recommend this vet for your animals. They provide knowledgeable, affordable, and compassionate care. I feel forever indebted to them for the remarkable care they given us. read more

Horrid place. First off, the female veterinarian is considerably rude. ZERO bedside manner to the point of ARGUING with us about how much our dog weighed after we were told the weight by the technician only for to then retract her statement when her technician corrected her. I asked for lumps to be looked at and she ignored that request. I asked for vaccines to be updated on both dogs on multiple trips and NO ONE NOTICED MY DOGS WERE OVERDUE. Not once did they offer to update my dogs vaccines I had PUSH them to schedule them and then they still didn't do the vaccines my dogs were due for. We had blood work done on one dog and one value came back abnormal. Now keep in mind I had said beforehand this value was always off and we've had ultrasounds done in the past and everything was normal. She tried to put my dog on an UNNECESSARY medication and then the next day the owner of the veterinary practice called me to say the female veterinarian was WRONG. Clearly some continuing education courses would be good for her to review the best practice of medicine or look on VIN (veterinary information network - a online resource available to them) to gather information before placing a patient on medication. I then called to find out why a vaccine was never done for my pet even after requesting it so many times. The answer: we didn't do it. Absolute lack of awareness from all the staff from reception to the technician to the doctors. Never-mind the absurdly high prices. For two dogs to 2 vaccines each with a technician my bill $240. How ridiculous. Better off at other local vet clinics. read more

Love Townsend Vet. The whole staff is top notch. BJ (owner) is a caring, compassionate vet who has the animal's best interest at heart. Dr ONeill and Martin are excellent as well. Animals come first! Have had many many visits, routine and emergency for our 2 Malamutes and 2 cats.... I wouldnt go anywhere else with my pets! We were sold a few years back when our cat became ill suddenly. BJ tried everything but she just wasn't able to pull through. He gave us options, sat with us as we made the decision... and even came out to the parking lot to console my wife after we put the cat down! Not a lot of vets care THAT much! You are always going to wait at least half an hour. They overbook all the time. The person at the reception, Jackie, is the most unhappy and rude receptionist I have ever had to deal with. She does not smile and her attitude is she is doing you a favor in taking your money and/or answering any question. If your animal is ill and you do not have an appointment and need to be seen, it is 100 dollars for the appointment. That is unfair..your animal is ill and you have to pay a base of 100 dollars just for the appointment, that does not cover what the vets do. read more

Sorry Diane, Your practice killed my dog and her puppies. Period. Nobody EVER said anything to me about a kidney infection. I picked her up in the afternoon when YOU (your office) told me to get her. I told YOU (Dr Martin) I was not comfortable taking her home because she didn't look right. She was breathing with her mouth closed, she had an iv tube still in her leg. YOU (Dr Martin) told me she couldn't stay unless I paid for an overnight tech which I would have clearly done if someone told me that she could die. NOBODY EVER suggested I take her to an emergency hospital, she was already at the vet then, why would I take her from one vet to another? Dr. Martin told me her uterus had split when removing it but did not irrigate her abdomen, which is protocol (her words). She opted not to because she didn't think any contents had spilled. How do you know she died of a kidney infection, did you do an autopsy when I brought her body to you weeping the next morning? she died less than 12 hours after picking her up...Why was she vomiting blood? I spoke with Dr Martin on the phone 3 times that night when she died, she told me vomiting blood was normal. It's not. She did not tell me I should take her to a hospital. She did not tell me she could die...No one ever told me that you expected her to die. You sued me, I had to go to court to relive the horror of watching her die, vomiting blood, screaming in pain, and had to tell them about bringing home puppies you gave vitamin shots and told me to give puppy formula to...remember? I then had to hold them as they had seizures, resuscitated them, and had them seizure again and die, within minutes of each other. I did go to court and only after your lawyer heard my side of the story was the suit dropped. He was as horrified as the court was. Too bad you didn't show up to court so I could have faced you and made you listen to what really happened, you are just reading notes in a file, right? I dropped my counter suit only so I wouldn't have to tell the traumatizing story one more time. I still have nightmares about it and your "spin" on what happened is shameful. Spare me the phony feelings like you cared about anything but the money. I paid you your $800+ for her surgery upfront, what you said it would cost, plus the costs of all of the visits prior to that. I didn't need a payment plan, I'd paid you over $1000 in 2 weeks and had 3 dead dogs to show for it and you sued me for "extra costs". Apparently you suspected she would die, didn't tell me, but took my money anyway. I would have spared her the pain of surgery, a horrible, painful death and had her put down, if you had only told me. It would be more admirable if someone there took responsibility and apologized, instead of trying to justify what happened. I do appreciate that you no longer send me rabies reminders though, thanks. read more

My cat scratched his eye and needed to be seen they charge 40 extra dollars for an emergency visit I've been going to this place for years and I agree they are good but I've spent thousands of dollars there I feel they are pricey enough without charging and extra 40 on top of an already high bill. read more

I've been to Townsend Vet Hospital a few times now and have never had a problem with them. They've been on time. Both vets currently there are very nice. When I brought in my dog with an upset stomach, they were very thorough and explained all of my options along with the risks and costs of everything, allowing me to make an informed decision. There are hardly ever other dogs waiting in the waiting area so it's nice and calm. My own complaint is that I wish they gave us a copy of their notes for appointments. It's especially handy to have those notes if you move. Otherwise, no complaints! read more

Relocated at the end of January to Townsend and had to find a vet for our dog. Only had one appt so far, but everyone I met was super nice, and they all loved Duke. They were generous with the treats after it took 2 techs, and myself to draw blood (which is the fastest way to my dog's heart!) They seemed extremely thorough, and were great with the dog. Got the feeling everyone there really likes being around and working with animals. read more

I have been taking my cats to TVC since 2002. All of the vets there are very knowledgeable. When one of my cats fell ill this past fall, the care at TVC was exceptional. They not only reacted and diagnosed my cat in a timely enough manner to save his life, but they also took the time to go over all of my questions and concerns so that I understood what was going on. I never feel like my cat is just a number at this vet office- every staff member there genuinely loves animals and it shows! They are gentle, respectful, and caring every time I am there. I use Gardner Ma vet but they don't take care of pocket pets.I was told to call Townsend Animal Hospital.They stayed after hours to comfom if my hamster was dead. We've been taking our pets to BJ since he started out in the small side store in W Townsend....what is that like 20+ years now?? Now he has the big hospital and our pets always get excellent care. We love all the staff!! In the past year alone, our senior lab (12 yo at the time), Sam, had surgery done by Dr Easley. I had originally taken Sam in because of concern for laryngeal paralysis and as it turned out during the exam they found he had a testicular tumor (he was an intact male)... after discussion, we had surgery and had the tumor removed and had his vocal surgery done to ease his airway and breathing....next up was our new kitten Lyndon. In February she was spayed. Dr BJ did the services this time and Lyndon came through with flying colors. By April it was apparent our dog Max needed some fatty tumors removed....Dr O'Neil did the honors...she did a wonderful job removing 3 huge tumors on Max. He healed up beautifully and is so love with all the staff, he is SO happy every time he goes back. This has been our experience with BJ and the staff over the last 20 years. They really care about your pets and want to offer the best care possible in the little town of Townsend. read more

We brought Captain Cat, our 14 year old male cat in because after Christmas he was acting odd. The people were very good, took us right in, gave CC the care he needed. Unfortunately he was filled with cancer and needed to be put to sleep. Even with this sad outcome the staff and doctors were very nice.
