Shrimp Noodle Soup - yummy yummy

With the weather getting warmer I figured I would ride the motorcycle to work; after finishing for the day I rode from Downtown Cleveland along the lake all the way to Mentor Headlands. On the way back I was trying to figure out what to have for dinner, I had a hankering for something Asian and then I remembered that I wanted to try Sugar Bowl. Located in a small storefront at Ridge Road and SOM Center Road in Willoughby it is easy to miss, but well worth your time to find. Inside is a mainly takeout shop with 2 small tables and a window counter. The menu is compact, some appetizers, a number of Pho and other soups and some other Asian items. I picked the Shrimp Noodle Soup, simple and a great way to try how their food. Ordered and paid at the counter. I had just barely settled in when the food was ready for me. A large bowl of rice noodles, shrimp and broth with a bag on the side with bean sprouts, Asian Basil, jalapeno slices and a lime wedge. The meal was excellent; a heaping helping of tender rice noodles provided body, good sized perfectly cooked shrimp were the main course and the heavenly broth brought it all together. With the side of vegetables, sirancha sauce and hoison sauce you can modify the dish to your personal taste. The highlight of the meal was the broth, light and delicately balanced it just kept getting better. Sugar Bowl was excellent food, they were doing a lot of takeout while I was there. I will be back to try some other items on the menu.

P5. Pho Chay - these are the sprouts given with dish, they were not fresh at all.

We tried this place on a whim one evening. The reviews seemed fairly mixed. It was close to home, had great prices & seemed to have decent menu items. We ordered pick up via Uber Eats - the company doesn't offer their own online ordering. I'm unsure if the prices are different but it's something that just works out easier for us. Anyways, I ordered the Pho Chay with tofu & vegetable broth and my husband ordered the Mango Salad with shrimp. Everything was ready for pick up quickly. I didn't get photos of the Mango Salad.. but it was super chunky & wasn't cohesive.. the dressing was tasty tho. He ended up enjoying it. My pho was thoughtfully packed to avoid spillage, my sprouts/toppings were placed in a separate bag to keep them cooler. The noodles were packaged in a plastic baggy separately, tofu was placed in the broth container. As I'm unpacking everything, I notice right away that my sprouts seemed really weak, they were browning pretty bad.. some parts much worst than others. I didn't eat them. I'm unsure why they were passed on to me in that condition. The broth was okay, kinda salty for my liking. The tofu was cut in triangles but were soft & simple. I think the noodles may have been sitting in the plastic baggy for quite some time. They were all stuck together in a block and it was very difficult to separate. Most of which, just broke apart so I just had chunks of noodles to deal with. It was overall really disappointing. Our Pho search continues..

    P2 rare beef pho

OMG obsessed. This place could make me move to the east side! ( current Westsider). It's essentially a fast casual Vietnamese restaurant with boba!! Shut up!! They even have a non dairy option for the bubble tea. I got the fresh rolls with tofu, non dairy butterfly pea boba and the P2, pho with rare beef. It was $21 for all of that, you order at the counter and then sit and they bring the food out to you. Cute decor inside and they had fabulous macarons that are made daily! Next time I'm in Willoughby I will definitely be coming back.

I've left a review before but feel pulled to leave another! I've seen some reviews say they don't give much protein, which I don't agree with. I always order the drunken noodles with tofu and every single time (probably over 15 times at this point) my bowls have been loaded with tofu, veggies and noodles. They're so consistent every time, I honestly think I eat here at least one a week! I've never gotten sick or anything, the ingredients taste very high quality. I also love the crispy rolls! The wrap is so crunchy and flavorful and I love the veggies inside. This is a great place to eat if you want filling, consistent and high quality food at a great price!

    Bubble tea and slushy!!!

Was in the area for a hike around Squire's castle and stopped in for some cooling and tasty refreshments. There's handy signage to help in ordering their bubble tea: size, tea type, sweetness level, added fruit flavor, and bubble type. The kids both went with fruit tea with popping bubbles but I went full frozen with a taro slushy with boba. Delicious and exactly what we needed.

Although you can hear every single conversation around you, it isn't a bother. Suggestion, play some cool Asian fusion music to enhance the experience. Our servers left something to be desired. The initial interaction with the lady serving bread only knew 3 words...bread, one or two. I wanted to communicate with her, but wearing an outdoor winter vest and her disconnected behavior canceled that attempt. Tyler was our server who we barely saw. I had to ask his name, and thats a pet peeve to start. He never cleared our bread and butter dishes ...also annoying to have dirty dishes in front of me...especially after I pushed them to the edge ... a clear indication to take it away. Now the food. My corn chicken chowder was served hot and creamy. Loved it. The spinach, mushroom and mozarella stuffed bacon wrapped chicken breast perched atop over cooked bok choy... laced atop bacon rice and surrounded by a 5spice seasoning was beautiful BUT overwhelming. The price was cool at $26 , however I doubt ANYONE can eat this serving. It would be better a smaller portion and lesser price. It was seriously enuf food for more than 2 people unless your just a gluten. I wish I had room for dessert because they all look like a work of art! Kudos but also let's be more reasonable. I may give it another try but probably for lunch. I dont eat that much!

Our server was friendly and asked if our food was alright when we were served. We didn't see her much after that. It seemed she was the only waitperson in the room and we were at the end of her list. I wanted another roll and had to flag down a bus person to ask for it. It arrived after I finished the meal, so I took it home with the leftovers. The food was beautifully presented and tasty. My steak was a little more than medium but still OK. The salads were huge and a shared portion was more than adequate. We split the mango cheesecake for desert. It was beautifully presented and dense, smooth and tasty. All in all, although not perfect, it was a good experience at a fair price.

Pho is kind of average. Service is good. Don't get the chicken pho…read more We came on a Thursday evening and ordered the mega pho for $28.95. Mega pho: (3/5) The pho was pretty much average overall. It came with rare beef, brisket, tripe, tofu, chicken, tomatoes, bean sprouts, noodles, meatballs, jalapenos, onions, and lime. The broth didn't taste good, it tasted like any other broth at any pho restaurant. The amount of beef was acceptable for pho that costs 28.95, but the taste of the meat was average. The vegetables were fairly fresh and tasted fine. The noodle portions were acceptable for the price too, and tasted fine was also average. However, the chicken was flavorless and boiled to the point so that it was hard and chewy like wood. Service: (4/5) Our server came by and refilled our water quickly and regularly. Ambiance: (4/5) It was a little bit noisy and the interior was quite nice. Overall a good enough experience, though I would advise against getting a pho with chicken here.

My boyfriend and I love Build the Pho! Not only is it very conveniently located in University…read moreCircle, but the pho itself is consistently good. The restaurant is well-decorated, clean, and spatious and, once you're seated, you can order either manually (the servers will hand you a paper to fill out) or by QR code - which includes items from both Build the Pho and the nextdoor Sweet Spot (e.g., boba drinks, etc.). The only caveat is that they usually put all of the garnishes into your broth (jalapeño, basil, and bean sprouts) pre-emptively, and the only way to have them remove one of these would be to ask a server, as there's nowhere online where you can indicate that you don't want a specific garnish. The broth is hot and tasty, the noodles (usually) perfectly cooked, and the meat good quality. I usually get the ribeye or brisket, while my boyfriend gets the House Special, and we almost always leave satisfied with our meal. The appetizers (especially the rock shrimp and popcorn chicken) are also always great! However, most of all, we really enjoy the customer service here - my boyfriend and I come here quite often, and the servers always remember to tell the kitchen to remove the jalapeños in my bowl, which I appreciate. 5/5 would and am definitely coming back!
